Aline S Call

[21:21] * Yanmei had agonized over the decision for a while now. There was no way to tell how -really- secure the private console was. Clearly it had blocked any of the conversation with Marianne from getting to Caine, but what about the base's security? -
[21:24] <Yanmei> There came a day, however, when she decided to go ahead and take the plunge anyway. She got in contact with Aline Blanc.
[21:28] <Aline> After the initial contact information filtered through - and a slight delay - Aline would appear onscreen. It wasn't as wide as Marianne's viewscreen was, but it was still Fancy Pants all the same. Nothing like the good 'ol battleship's decadence. "…" Rather than saying anything at first, Aline just blinked at the screen. But… "Oh! Hi."
[21:32] <Yanmei> "Yeah, hi." The Yanmei that looked back at her had dropped a few visible pounds. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail, and it looked as if she was wearing a uniform. "How've you been?"
[21:34] * Aline thought for a moment. It was certainly a differentish look for Yanmei, but not by a /lot/. "Okayish? There's been some big-spawn attacks while you were out, but I imagine Marianne has filled you in on the particulars? Shinji could be better by a lot, though. Angelic mind games are a bitch."
[21:36] <Yanmei> "Ikari…?" She frowned at that. "I heard about the Angelspawn, but not about that part? Damn."
[21:38] * Aline nodded with a frown of her own. "Yeah, he… has kinda been fraying at the edges. Hallucinations, outbursts, dependancy…"
[21:42] <Yanmei> "Ugh. Nasty. What are the doctors saying?"
[21:44] * Aline shook her head. "It's hard to pin down? There's, I think, two different disorders in play - one that causes hallucinations and instability, the other making him almost desperately dependant. They're trying medication, which I /think/ is helping with the former."
[21:48] * Yanmei nodded. "Well, I'm glad something's working But the dependency thing is still as bad as ever, huh?" She seemed to think about it for a moment, and then shook her head. "I hope that, whatever happens, you guys manage to work through it? It's probably suffocating."
[21:53] * Aline sort of twitched a little, because while true, it sorta ached. "Yeah… but uh. Enough about that, maybe? I mean, I can't think of much else to say there. There were some other things, if you were curious. I'm a bit curious about what's up with you, too."
[21:54] <Yanmei> "If you have questions, then ask away? I don't know how much they told you and the other pilots…"
[21:57] * Aline took a breath, before she conttinued. "Well… I got the gist of the Australia part, and heard about the Dysangelion attack in the US, then you going where you are now. So you lead an army or something?"
[22:00] * Yanmei puffed up a bit. "Well, I -did-. When I left Australia, I left those responsibilites behind with my second in command? So the technical answer is… no. Presently I don't lead an army."
[22:02] <Aline> "Ahhh." Was the relatively simple response. At first. "I probably wouldn't have had the grit to do that. I'd have… I dunno? Something."
[22:08] <Yanmei> "Not many people could, I imagine." Yanmei preened. "It was hard enough finding food for ourselves in that place. Then, suddenly, I'm like responsible for a hundred other people? Then there were the battles, and all of those other things…" -
[22:10] <Yanmei> "Well, whatever." A quick, dissatisfied grunt, as she briefly glanced over her surroundings, eyes eventually returning to Aline. "So I hear they made Asuka my replacement over there?"
[22:13] <Aline> "Heh, yeah. I got a promotion too, but not to that level at all." There was a conspiratorial gaze this way and that. "Though with how often she was knocked out of commission first-thing, it was like /I/ was in charge for the most part."
[22:17] * Yanmei snorted with laugher, and then quickly pretended to clear her throat. "I did hear you did a decent job keeping everything together. Congratulations are in order."
[22:21] <Aline> "Damn straight." Aline responded. "Soon enough we're probably going to face the last Angel other than Metatron, though at least now we have William too. Even so, it's probably going to be rough…"
[22:24] <Yanmei> "…The Warmaster, right? It will be, yes. He's at least as powerful as Metatron herself?"
[22:29] <Aline> "…Really? I figured 'strong', but…" Aline bit her lip and sighed through the expression. "Oh well. What the fuck ever, you know?"
[22:32] * Yanmei tsked. "I'm surprised you don't have more information on him? Did he send, like, a Messenger Boy or something to NERV or whatever?"
[22:35] * Aline shrugged. "I don't think we've really gone over the briefing yet. It's been more talking about his boss's purposes and him going out to movies and helping with the Dysangelion analysis and stuff."
[22:36] <Yanmei> "-Movies-?"
[22:37] <Aline> "Under escort, obviously. But yeah! He was curious, and he's not really superpowered at all so why the fuck not, you know?" Aline actually grinned.
[22:40] <Yanmei> "But…" Yanmei was frowning. "Since when have spawn been interested in things like that? It's weird!"
[22:43] * Aline shrugged openly. "He's intelligent enough to be interested, so?" Aline was either egging Yanmei on, or had no clue what the problem was.
[22:46] <Yanmei> "Intelligence isn't really the issue, here?" Yanmei shook her head. "It's a minor point anyway, in the grand scheme of things."
[22:50] * Aline was still smiling, though it was lighter now. "Ah, well, fair enough?" She eventually said, though she had the same general mood as her original shrug.
[22:52] <Yanmei> "You're going to have your hands full. Not just keeping an eye on him, but on Command too? The pilots aren't the only people who have been cloned lately."
[22:57] * Aline raised a brow at that. "…Troublesome. I'll definitely have to keep that in mind." She opened her mouth briefly, but closed it. "What a mess. We could've been done with this easily. But noooooo."
[22:58] <Yanmei> "Easily? How?"
[23:00] * Aline sighed, very put-upon and frustratedly. "I overheard something about there being a prior peace offer that was rejected? Peace offer from Metatron, of all people. If it weren't for Caine… we would've been free to just take our sweet time in figuring out the post-Angelic world."
[23:06] <Yanmei> "Oh. Yeah, I heard about that too?" Yanmei tossed her hair with a little scowl. "Look on the bright side. At least this way we know the Angels hate her just as much as we do? Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll finish each other off somehow."
[23:07] * Aline rolled her eyes. "Psssssssssssssh. They don't seem to acknowledge any factional divisions in humanity anyway. She probably thought that Caine represented /our/ interests."
[23:15] <Yanmei> "Ugh. Well, there goes that lovely dream?" Yanmei's scowl deepened. "Whatever. That's all the more reason for the entire world to turn against her. If we had proof. And a dearth of SEELE influence at play."
[23:16] * Aline put her hands against… a table? Something like that. "Yeah, well. You found proof in the illusion world, but I wouldn't know where it is now."
[23:20] * Yanmei stiffened. "That was proof of international foul play. You know, mild stuff like assassinations and so on. And you haven't -told- anyone about that, have you?"
[23:23] * Aline shook her head. "No, I haven't. I thought it was more serious. But…" A sorta lopsided frown grew on Aline's face. "This stuff is a hard sell anyway. We'll probably just have to do everything by ourselves. Again."
[23:29] <Yanmei> "Yeah, 'ourselves'. And Vercingetorix too, apparently?"
[23:32] <Aline> "…That, yeah. He seems to be supporting a good, coherent plan? I could be wrong since I don't know the exact details - and wouldn't drop them over a line like this anyway - but he seems to be on the same side?"
[23:40] <Yanmei> "Seems that way," said Yanmei airily. "Whatever his actual intentions might be?"
[23:42] <Aline> "Whatever, yes." Aline confided, looking uncertain for a moment. "Still, I suppose once things are /on/, we'll have to be ready for anything."
[23:46] <Yanmei> "Yeah. As well as we can be." She went quiet for a short while, still not quite frowning. "About de Pteres…"
[23:47] * Aline paused for a second, a bit distracted by the sudden topic change. "What about him…?"
[23:48] <Yanmei> "Did you guys get a chance to talk yet?"
[23:50] <Aline> "Oh yeah, I did. He…" Aline stared critically into the screen. "…talked about some stuff. What were you curious about?"
[23:51] <Yanmei> "How did he seem to you? Like, was he stable and everything?"
[23:52] * Aline did a tilty-hand gesture. "By his standards, yeah. No outbursts or anything?"
[23:56] * Yanmei nodded. "He's been calm in our conversations too? But some things are bothering me. Caine's preferential treatment toward him during his time in the Synfront. The length of his stay with her - close to a month! And something he said earlier, about one of her Angel clones helping him to sort things out…"
[00:01] * Aline waved her hand /again/, but it was a more vague gesture this time. "Probably because of the whole things-in-his-head thing, right? Controllable to some extent."
[00:08] <Yanmei> "Don't forget who put those things in his head to begin with." Yanmei exhaled sharply. "Aren't you worried about him going over the edge? Or like, the possibility of there being even more conditioning done without us knowing about it?"
[00:09] <Aline> "A fair bit, to be honest, but he's…" Aline flicked her hand at the screen. "Over /there/ for now, so I've been kind of preoccupied. But… Yeah. I know that Caine will /probably/ try to pull something with that at the last moment."
[00:14] <Yanmei> "And if she did, how would you react? Like we're standing on a battlefield after beheading Metatron, or whatever, and he just flips the fuck out and starts attacking?"
[00:15] * Aline stared into the image of Yanmei's eyes for a moment, and then, semi-hardly, answered. "Try to talk him down, then failing that, disable the Evangelion, disarm him, or whatever the hell we need to do to get him to stop."
[00:17] <Yanmei> "And then what? Would it be safe to let him near 01 after that?"
[00:23] * Aline paused for a long moment. "We should… /should/ be trying to figure out a way to unfuck his head, at least in terms of the implanted personality. But I'm not sure it'd be safe to let him pilot if he does that."
[00:28] <Yanmei> "We don't exactly have an ace conditioning specialist in our little faction that we can ask for help with that." Her eyes narrowed somewhat, although not necessarily at Aline. "That I'm AWARE of, anyway."
[00:29] <Aline> "Assuming it's even that. For all we know she engineered a soul fragment or some /bullshit/." Aline looked rather sour.
[00:36] <Yanmei> "Don't even joke about that. This is complicated enough." Yanmei rubbed her forehead irritably. "I'll keep an eye on him in the meantime, naturally? Until we figure out what to do."
[00:42] <Aline> "Yeah, until." Aline sort of… genially said.
[00:46] * Yanmei nodded distractedly. "I guess those are all the points I wanted to cover right now."
[00:49] <Aline> "Alright then?" Aline tried to say, though she sounded a bit halting. "I… can't really think of anything else right now. I guess we'll run into each other later."
[00:50] <Yanmei> "Right. Oh, and Blanc?"
[00:51] * Aline stopped all of a sudden. "Ah?"
[00:55] <Yanmei> "Don't trust anyone. And try to make sure you're not influenced by anything questionable either?" A pause. "Well. Ciao~"
[00:55] <Aline> "Ah, ah, okay." Aline nodded. This was a /familiar/ warning. "Bye." …click. Beeoop.
