Aline S Stirring

[14:17] <AdEvaGM> [Beep…-
[14:17] <AdEvaGM> [That was the first thing Aline would -perceive-. The sound of medical instruments…]
[14:22] <Aline> Beep, indeed. Aline gently tried opening her eyes. She remembered… what did she remember? She did know /why/ that was the sound that first greeted her. It hurt, during the battle. It hurt body and soul, she could even /feel/ herself unraveling at that time. So it was no wonder she was here now. Yet, oddly, a vaguely spiteful sound - or maybe just mocking - echoed from her lips. "…/Beep./"
[14:28] <AdEvaGM> [Beep. The machine responded in its own way…-
[14:28] <AdEvaGM> [The room was blurry. Someone had removed her glasses.]
[14:31] * Aline tried to look around, anyway. Nothing as pedestrian as not be able to see /clearly/ was going to stop her. It was probably just a boring old medical room. Maybe even a special windowless one - she got that treatment a lot anyway. "'m awake, if anyone's listening." She muttered.
[14:36] <AdEvaGM> [It was… White. A lot of white there.-
[14:36] <AdEvaGM> [It was indeed windowless.-
[14:36] <AdEvaGM> [Fifteen… Twenty minutes passed. The door opened.]
[14:38] <Aline> A loll of her head. She knew her information on who it was was going to, before they opened their mouth, be somewhere along the lines of 'big blur/little blur' with some color data, but… "'lo?"
[14:51] <AdEvaGM> [Whoever it was took her glasses and shoved them onto her face.-
[14:51] <AdEvaGM> [It was Commander Ikari.]
[14:58] * Aline flushed in embarrassment, as she finally got to see who it was. She should've /expected/ this. But… "Oh. Sorry for being overly casual, Commander." She managed, fortunately only a bit of pain was impeding her speech. As slight twitches would show, it was, after all, the limbs that were wounded, not the throat or similar.
[15:05] <AdEvaGM> ["Mm." He grabs a chair, turns it around backwards so that the back is facing Aline, and sits down.-
[15:05] <AdEvaGM> ["You received intense injuries to your body and leg, as you no doubt realise. You're expected to be in here for about three to four weeks."]
[15:08] * Aline nodded, as she fully sat up - slowly, of course. "I wasn't quite paying attention to the injuries when they occurred, but that…" Her expression dampened. "…that sounds about correct."
[15:14] <AdEvaGM> ["How much do you remember of the battle?"]
[15:22] * Aline pursed her lips. "…I remember things like Yanmei - and then 04 - going down, Sera going unresponsive, then an agonizing handful of minutes - seconds? One of the two - under constant Anti-AT erosion trying desperately to kill the Angel. Then I passed out from a square blow to…" A look down, at the bandaging on her torso. "I'm guessing there, since I /remember/ the leg wound
[15:22] * Aline clearly. Then my memory stops." Another pause, this one a bit longer than a proper 'beat'. "Something happened after that, didn't it?"
[15:24] <AdEvaGM> ["EVA-00 went berserk." He said. "EVA-00 rarely goes berserk, and this time the situation became even more complex. As a clone of Lilith, EVA-00 is able to tap into the power of Lilith when the two are in very close proximity… Temporarily."]
[15:29] * Aline bit back a strange impulse, in part because of her company, and as the halting shudder and sudden wince her body displayed might attest, in part because of her condition. She wanted to break out laughing. "No wonder I'm alive, then. That must have been an obscenely powerful state."
[15:38] <AdEvaGM> ["It was. Azrael was still powerful enough to land a nearly fatal blow on 00, even then, but after that 00 shredded the Angel rather handily. Tell me, did Azrael speak to you?"]
[15:41] * Aline sighed rather openly. "Once or twice. He wasn't as approachable as the others, for that certain quality of approachable I seem to treat some of them with. Loud, forceful, and hostile to my very being. Also declaring himself an imperial herald… I won't bore you with my internal speculations about that unless asked, though."
[15:52] <AdEvaGM> ["Go on."]
[15:55] * Aline tilted her head briefly, but it was more just an idle motion rather than a quizzical look. "Oh, it was mostly the notion of an empire seeming odd, compared to the human definition of one. But I imagine they consider their brotherhood/sisterhood to be significant enough to count as one. Words being strange as they are with telepathic communication between two different orders of life
[15:55] * Aline entirely… confusing, it is."
[15:57] <AdEvaGM> ["Mmm. Do you know the roots of the word 'Imperial'?"]
[16:05] <Aline> "…Ah…" For a few seconds, she was in thought, but then it hit her. "…Right. It refers not necessarily just to territory, but /authority/ and /command/. That makes more sense…"
[16:15] <AdEvaGM> ["Mm." Gendo folded his hands together. "Judging from this, we can assume that Azrael, as his title is 'Imperial Herald', is acting as the messenger for a far more powerful entity."-
[16:15] <AdEvaGM> ["Of course, there is another translation appropriate to the circumstance."]
[16:17] * Aline thought on that for a few seconds more. "And which would that be? If not the messenger of a higher being, then…?"
[16:17] <AdEvaGM> ["The messenger of a higher organisation." There is a humourless smile on his lips.-
[16:18] <AdEvaGM> ["You could interpret Azrael as literally declaring himself the Messenger of the Kingdom of God- if you wanted, the proverbial herald- or trumpeter- that begins about Judgement Day."]
[16:21] <Aline> "…Which goes with some of the other mythic trappings they carry, probably as much by coincidence, as by our very myths being shaped by the reality." A nod, one rather grim, though only so much so, from Aline. "It's already been surmised by so many that the coming Angels will be the most powerful seen yet… so… It looks like we won't need to wait long to witness the coming of the kingdom
[16:21] <Aline> manifest."
[16:27] <AdEvaGM> ["Indeed."-
[16:30] <AdEvaGM> ["We've taken the trouble to salvage Azrael's blade, and we've decided to configure it for use with EVA-04. Their fighting styles are similar enough to warrant it." Gendo's lenses gleamed. "The MAGI has a name for Azrael's master- in essence, less a name for a specific entity, and more of a hypothetical for any Angel that could have power on par with Adam itself."-
[16:31] <AdEvaGM> ["That name is 'Metatron'. From now, remember to use it when referring to whatever 'Imperial' Azrael meant."]
[16:36] * Aline raised a brow, but she knew her Judeo-Christian mythos enough to know the implication. "Consider it done. And, well, somehow I'm not surprised Yanmei'd be cleared for its use. It's certainly a violent, insistent weapon."
[16:38] <AdEvaGM> ["And yet, a weapon equally suited to furious attacks and focused, centred skill."]
[16:41] * Aline once again buckled under a suppressed chuckle. "Certainly true. She is our close-quarters specialist, so the skill to match is useful."
[16:49] <AdEvaGM> [He nodded, then stood up out of his chair. "If Azrael is merely the first, we can expect truly apocalyptic foes before long. Try to recover quickly. We need you piloting."]
[16:59] * Aline nodded /very/ firmly, nearly wincing /again/ at the force of the gesture. "I'll make it a point to recover as fast as my body can manage it."
[17:02] <AdEvaGM> ["Good."-
[17:03] <AdEvaGM> [And with that, he opened the door and stepped out, leaving Aline alone with her thoughts.]
[17:08] <Aline> And what thoughts she was left with… were surprisingly bare, for what she had discussed, and what she could look forward to. It was a distinct silence of mind as much as body, as she stared up into her medical equipment, knowing it'd be predictably there.
