Aline S Unintentional Incest

[22:21] * Aline had been reading when she received the call from Marianne - a typical past-time. Thank god that Little Aline was busy plotting revenge or eating out or whatever it is she was planning on doing. Aline didn't need that kind of distraction now, as this was probably Important. Maybe. Nonetheless, she made her way through the halls of the battleship with a bit of a sense of purpose on
[22:21] * Aline her face.
[22:22] <@Minaplo> [For curiosity's sake, Little Aline was trying to learn how to program an AC Suit to hunt Yanmei down and kill her.-
[22:23] <@Minaplo> [Unfortunately, this constituted sabotage, which would've been enough for Little Aline to be executed.-
[22:24] <@Minaplo> [Fortunately, the person who found out about this was Navah, who was content to jab a taser into Little Aline's back, drag her to Aline's dorm, and leave her tied up outside the door with a gift card.-
[22:24] <@Minaplo> [But that had not, speaking from the perspective of linear time, happened yet.-
[22:25] <@Minaplo> [And so it was that Aline would find herself outside of Marianne's door- which the console showed as locked.]
[22:32] * Aline would stare at the door for a few seconds, as if contemplating something about her meeting - probably just mild trepidation - before pressing the buzzer. Push de button.
[22:37] <@Minaplo> [The door unlocked, and a voice came over the intercom. "Come in!"]
[22:45] * Aline pushed or pulled or levered or /whatever/ you do to battleship doors, striding into the ample fields of the best quarters on the ship. "Well, uh, hi!"
[22:51] <@Minaplo> [Marianne was not in a night gown this time. It was afternoon, so she was wearing a uniform like a person in the military should in the afternoon. She was sitting behind her desk, a glove on her right hand; her hands themselves were moving over a series of holographic displays, which, instead of her hand just pushing through them, actually seemed to input commands instead.-
[22:52] <@Minaplo> ["Good afternoon, Blanc. How're you?"]
[22:56] * Aline gave a little nod, vaguely eyeing the holographics - she had used some before in the illusion world, where it wasn't exclusive to OD gloves - before turning firmly to Marianne. "Good afternoon to you as well, and… I'm doing fine, I think?"
[22:58] <@Minaplo> [She nodded, and with a snap of her fingers, the holograms vanished. She pulled off the glove. "I'm sorry to hear about Ikari…"]
[23:03] * Aline sighed softly. "I can't say 'It's okay', but… I'll survive. I figure he will too, but it's pretty bad."
[23:08] <@Minaplo> [Marianne nodded sympathetically. "Please, sit down."]
[23:13] <Aline> "Okay…" Aline trailed off, obviously thinking about Shinji at least a little bit, now, but she pulled out a chair to sit in all the same.
[23:22] <@Minaplo> ["If there's anything you think I can do for Ikari, let me know, alright?"]
[23:26] <Aline> "Of course. But I'm not sure what, right now, short of maybe coming up with something for him to do that's nice and low-impact." Aline said as she was getting comfortable in her seat. (Not hard to do.)
[23:27] <@Minaplo> ["Ah… I've had a few -ahem- suggestions about that. Actually."]
[23:29] * Aline slooowly raised an eyebrow. "What… kind of suggestions?"
[23:35] <@Minaplo> ["A suggestion that they use him to sense untrustworthy people or possible spies…"]
[23:38] * Aline almost immediately frowned. "But the different way people appear has /scared/ him. And I don't even know if it's that useful for that."
[23:41] <@Minaplo> ["I know. It was only a suggestion." Said Marianne quickly. "We wouldn't force Shinji to do this."]
[23:45] * Aline nodded, seemingly as satisfied as someone who was still frowning could look. "Right."
[23:49] <@Minaplo> ["Do you have any ideas…?"]
[23:53] * Aline thought for a bit, thinking of things Shinji's done recently. "His real passion and non-pilot skillset is music, and unfortunately that won't help the war effort much… but he has taken some medical training, so maybe once he's feeling a little better - and if he still doesn't feel up to piloting - he could help Dr. Kenzo out?"
[23:55] <@Minaplo> ["As a nurse, you mean?"]
[23:57] * Aline nodded. "Yeah. He doesn't have the training to be some kind of super prodigy doctor, but definitely enough to be an assistant nurse." Despite a certain GM's suspicions, Aline was /not/ thinking of a stereotypical nurse outfit. Really.
[23:58] <@Minaplo> [This GM will believe it only when he has ruled out every other possibility.-
[23:58] <@Minaplo> ["No, that's a good idea. Healing instead of harming will do Ikari good, I think…"]
[00:00] * Aline finally looked like she was brightening - a little. "Excellent."
[00:04] <@Minaplo> [She nodded. "I'm sorry about the debacle in New Mexico."]
[00:10] * Aline sort of scrunched her face, as if unsure whether to look upset again or to smile. Eventually, Aline settled on a weak smile. "…We did the best we could given our level of knowledge. I can only hope things go better next time - or failing that, when Paris-2 is being defended."
[00:20] <@Minaplo> ["You'll be ready again in that scenario, no doubt."]
[00:21] * Aline nodded firmly, now. "Yeah, I will be."
[00:25] <@Minaplo> ["Good, that's good…"-
[00:25] <@Minaplo> ["You've been a good pilot, Blanc. It's been good to have you through this conflict."]
[00:29] * Aline blinked at that. Usually when someone says something like that, they're prefacing something else. Still, she tried to ignore it. "Uh, thanks, ma'am. I do try."
[00:34] <@Minaplo> [Marianne nodded.-
[00:34] <@Minaplo> ["Have you thought about what you'll do when it's over?"]
[00:39] * Aline paused at that. "That'll depend a lot on what happens at the end, doesn't it?" But she closed her eyes and smiled. "Furthering mankind's knowledge, probably through science again. Hopefully this time I'll do it right."
[00:47] <@Minaplo> [Marianne nodded, smiling awkwardly.-
[00:47] <@Minaplo> ["Have you thought about a career in genetics?"]
[00:51] * Aline blinked /again/. "Uh… well I picked up a little studying the Ayanamis and Iron Guard, and know a bit about Angelic genetics too, but my real field is non-biological." For a short while, Aline left it at that, but before Marianne spoke again… "…Why genetics?"
[01:00] <@Minaplo> ["Ah, so you'll probably do physics?"
[01:00] <@Minaplo> ]
[01:02] <Aline> "Yeah. Especially what with the potential of AT Fields…" The way Aline trailed off was suggestive (A 'pregnant pause', if you will), but she otherwise didn't really try to point out her suspicions.
[01:07] <@Minaplo> ["Yes…"-
[01:07] <@Minaplo> ["… I'm sorry, Blanc. I brought you here for a reason today."]
[01:09] * Aline actually just nodded when she said that. "I know. Well. I got the impression anyway." She tried to smile (and succeeded, somewhat). "What's the matter?"
[01:11] <@Minaplo> ["You were friends with Eugenia… Eugenia Ranvier…"]
[01:14] * Aline widened her eyes slightly. Where was this going…? "Er, somewhat? She actually hung out more with Yanmei near the end."
[01:17] <@Minaplo> ["But you were friends with her alter-ego Nagisa too…"]
[01:19] * Aline went a bit wider (we have to go wider.) at that. Oh shit. "…Okay, yeah."
[01:19] <@Minaplo> [Marianne nodded.-
[01:19] <@Minaplo> ["This may come as a bit of a surprise, but…"-
[01:20] <@Minaplo> ["Eugenia Ranvier wasn't born, so much as grown. She was a clone- the clone, you could say. She was created through a combination of your genes and Gabriel-Wei's."]
[01:22] * Aline at first didn't even think of the implications. She was worried enough about her ~indiscretions~ being found out, that she skipped over the actual problem at hand. So, she actually felt relieved. "…Oh, that's it, huh? I… guess I can see why you were uh, talking about genetics then."
[01:23] <@Minaplo> [Marianne let out a sigh of relief. "Ah. See, I was hoping you'd react like that. You're usually pretty calm about these things? Or so Dr. Ikari said. I suppose you and her are a bit alike in that way."-
[01:23] <@Minaplo> ["I-I mean, if it were someone like Yanmei, she'd be horrified…"]
[01:29] * Aline shrugged her shoulders and put on a… not smug, but if she were just the slightest bit more arrogant with it it would've been smug, smile. "Well, yeah. If…" Wait. She was awfully trepedatious about… Hm. /Hm/. "Like I told her, she's a little brittle like that. Of course, she tried to turn it around and call me weird but /eh/."
[01:30] <@Minaplo> ["Oh?"]
[01:32] <Aline> "Yeah. We were playing chess not /too/ long ago, and she was weirded out by the set. I mean sure, a few of the pieces chosen just show how much of a creepy bastard Silas was, but if you can get past that, it's just amusing." Aline actually chuckled at that, and thought. "So, really. Me and Isaiah, huh?"
[01:33] <@Minaplo> ["Yeah. I don't know the full story- apparently Vercingetorix does, though."-
[01:33] <@Minaplo> ["I'm not sure if Eugenia knew. Maybe she showed some sign to you or the like."]
[01:34] <Aline> "Sign…?" Aline started to feel a bit dubious at that, but was not quite getting it.
[01:35] <@Minaplo> ["I don't know. Eugenia- Kaworu too, now that I think about it- could be a bit mysterious. So we really don't know how much she knew."]
[01:39] * Aline scratched her chin. "Kaworu was probably more mysterious, honestly, because of just how he…" Wait. "…well, /was/." Aline grew silent, and was starting to remember something. Kaworu being mysterious. Isaiah… didn't he harass Isaiah? "He… he as Kaworu that is, was kinda obsessed with Isaiah at one point. Something to do with Yanmei I think."
[01:42] <@Minaplo> ["Hmm. I think I picked up on that a little- actually." She smiled. "Eugenia was always hitting on Isaiah in front of Yanmei, riling her up…"]
[01:45] <Aline> "Right, using sexuality as a… a weapon…" You idiot, why did it it take you this long to… "But it was certainly strange and almost inexplicable, probably just nothing." Quick reversal. Bad reversal.
[01:46] <@Minaplo> ["He didn't harass you or anything, did he?"]
[01:50] * Aline suddenly blushed. She didn't have the experience directly suppressing her emotions like that - normally her willpower was used in a very different way. "Well uh I think he maybe didn't really but… I… er…"
[01:51] <@Minaplo> ["…"]
[01:52] * Aline was now poking her fingers together, knowing suppression just wasn't even possible, and hoped she could dodge this through sheer dumb luck. "…"
[01:52] <@Minaplo> ["… Can I ask one thing?"]
[01:53] * Aline shook at that, and… "…Which… one thing?"
[01:54] <@Minaplo> ["… Before or after you hooked up with Shinji?"]
[01:56] * Aline shook even more. "A-a-after. He already knows. We uh… we had the… requisite… ssstuff."
[01:59] <@Minaplo> ["… Aline." Murmured Marianne.]
[02:01] * Aline looked down. "…Sorry…"
[02:03] <@Minaplo> ["I… No, I shouldn't say anything." Muttered Marianne. "I can't really judge. You probably had… Reasons. You're a smart girl, usually…"-
[02:03] <@Minaplo> ["Wow, this became awkward quickly."]
[02:07] * Aline nodded. Slowly. "Y-yeah it did. It was kinda dumb, but I… can't really keep those kinds of secrets from you?" She paused. "At least I'm /not/ upset by the other facts about this revelation?"
[02:07] <@Minaplo> ["… W-Well, that's… Good!"]
[02:09] <Aline> "It's uh… actually kinda neat that I'm technically the grandmother of every non-Brother superhuman give-or-take?"
[02:11] <@Minaplo> ["You and Isaiah, yes." She murmured. "Yanmei and I have already discussed some of the implications."]
[02:14] * Aline finally was feeling a little better, but not enough. "So… that's why you know how she'd react. IT didn't go well, did it?"
[02:14] <@Minaplo> ["Uh… She was the one who told me, actually."]
[02:18] * Aline blinked, but only briefly this time. "Oh. Vercy must've told her then."
[02:22] <@Minaplo> ["So it'd seem."-
[02:22] <@Minaplo> ["Actually…"]
[02:26] * Aline tilted her head. "…Actually?"
[02:27] <@Minaplo> ["I suppose you don't know. Vercingetorix is a secret identity- obviously- but the real person…"-
[02:27] <@Minaplo> ["… I guess Shinji doesn't know either, but it's actually his father."]
[02:30] * Aline raised a brow. "Oh, so… so /that's/ what Tsubaki meant." Aline shook her head a few times. "Interesting."
[02:31] <@Minaplo> ["Heh. You don't seem too surprised."]
[02:32] * Aline nodded. "Well, once you said it… Tsubaki had called him /her/ father, and I was kinda already suspicious it might've been Gendo on a hunch - simply because the assassination felt, for lack of a better word, dumb?"
[02:32] <@Minaplo> ["'Dumb'?"]
[02:36] * Aline waved a hand. "It's like… he just went out there when we were on relatively high alert, and the /Spectre/ of all things was suspected of doing it, when she'd been known to fight in melee almost exclusively, and protected the pilots at least? So I guess it felt weird to me."
[02:37] <@Minaplo> ["The info about the Spectre came from trusted sources- which we later learned were working with the mafia. A "Let's you and him fight" ploy, I suppose."-
[02:40] <@Minaplo> ["In any case, his death was pretty convincing for pretty much all of us- except for those who knew he was -trying- to be assassinated."]
[02:42] * Aline tilted her head - or started to - but stopped herself. "Well then. It starts to make more sense, yeah."
[02:42] <@Minaplo> [She nodded.-
[02:43] <@Minaplo> ["I'm sorry. This has been something of a day of revelations for you- you, er… Probably need some time to think."]
[02:47] <Aline> "…Some, yeah." Aline agreed, after a bit of a pause.
[02:48] <@Minaplo> [Marianne nodded slowly. "I'll leave you to go, then. Unless you need something- goodness knows I wouldn't be surprised…"]
[02:54] * Aline sat there thinking… "…I think I'll just get some tea or something, actually? It's… I feel… well. I'm trying to not freak out over it, and mostly it's working?"
[02:55] <@Minaplo> ["Tea's a good idea… Maybe a spot of brandy wouldn't hurt, either." Muttered Marianne.]
[02:56] * Aline wore a sort of fakey, put-on grim look. "The last time I drank, people died."
[02:57] <@Minaplo> ["I prefer to interpret those events as 'the last time you let Asuka Langley-Soryu boss you around'. Let that be your lesson."]
[02:59] * Aline began to stand up, but bowed her head slightly. "I could accept that interpretation, yeah. I guess I'll think about it in the cafeteria. Thanks for the talk, even if it did… get weird."
[03:01] <@Minaplo> ["It's… Fine. Have a good day, alright?"]
[03:05] <Aline> "You too, 'kay?" Aline said as she turned to leave.
[03:06] <@Minaplo> [Marianne waved as Aline left- and once the door closed, slumped forward, head in her hands.-
[03:06] <@Minaplo> ["Oh my god, this fucking job."]
