Clement S Family Life

06[08:18] * @Aline would, on the day in question, find herself waiting in the Evangelion Hangar. She had already finished her preparations for the day, so it wasn't like she was hard at work, but… Aline lingered on a corner of the observation deck, staring at the various units, as if wondering what they were going through. Well. She could guess some of them, sadly enough, but… Even so.
03[08:19] * Sept (if.vth.pp.31282072sc|rreTxatnyS#if.vth.pp.31282072sc|rreTxatnyS) has joined #nervfrance3
[08:25] <Minaplo> [The faint rustling of chiffon and silk would herald the arrival of Navah. She walked over to Aline's side and grabbed her hand. "Hi."]
06[08:29] * @Aline barely noticed in time - just enough to not jump in surprise. "…Hello."
[08:29] <Minaplo> ["You ready?"]
06[08:34] * @Aline turned her head gently, looking down at Navah. She spared one more glance back at the Evangelions, before nodding her head. "Yeah. I think so."
[08:41] <Minaplo> ["Alright."-
[08:43] <Minaplo> [And so ten minutes later, Aline was led by the hand out onto the VTOL hangar, one already booked for a trip to the Geofront.-
[08:43] <Minaplo> [The air was chilly and cold, especially since it was night; Aline would notice it the moment the VTOL set down and the door opened. They weren't inside the Geofront, but rather right outside…-
[08:43] <Minaplo> [And it was Surov who was waiting for them.]
06[08:49] * @Aline shivered - she had managed to swing by her room on the battleship long enough to get a coat, but that wasn't going to amount to much given the excessive chill. But she tried to put on a generally cordial face. She knew better than to be all smiles, so it was respectfully gentle. "Looks like it's time."
[08:53] <Minaplo> ["We'll be having dinner in my place. Is this satisfactory?" Asked Surov.]
06[08:55] * @Aline nodded, ignoring anything potentially awkward in the setup. After all, this was purposebuilt. "That'll work, yes."
[08:59] <Minaplo> [Wordlessly, Surov turned around and led them back to his car, which was larger, bulkier and more… 'dangerous' looking than a civilian one. He hopped in behind the driver's seat, which had no wheel. Instead, a helmet sat in a bowl-like depression, connected into the dashboard by thick segmented cables. He took the helmet and placed it on his head, where it covered his face down past his
[08:59] <Minaplo> nose.]
06[09:04] * @Aline would briefly raise a brow. Of /course/ he'd have to have a Deathmobile. It just seemed quintessentially Surov. So she just… also-wordlessly got onboard in a passenger area.
[09:09] <Minaplo> [Navah hopped in as well, next to her.-
[09:12] <Minaplo> [The journey was a short one. The streets were practically deserted, Surov's tele-driving skills were unnaturally good, and the Surov Car could apparently do 250k easy.-
[09:14] <Minaplo> [And so they arrived, Surov parking in an underground car park underneath an apartment building, climbing out, and getting on an elevator with them.]
06[09:18] * @Aline had been, all during the trip, wondering on some level what Surov's daily commute must be like from the point of view of a bystander. Whirling mechanical arms, giant deathmobile car… If Evangelions hadn't already sort of neutered any weirdness reactions, she'd concede it'd have had the neighborhood rightly spooked. Then again, maybe they still had been.
[09:28] <Minaplo> [The elevator arrived at its floor, and they stepped out, Surov heading towards his door. You could tell it was his door because it swung open before he even reached out to touch it.-
[09:30] <Minaplo> [Surov's apartment was…-
[09:30] <Minaplo> [Perhaps it would be best to explain in non-linear terms.-
[09:33] <Minaplo> [The first thing one must remember was that Surov did not sleep. Not like other people. His implants allowed his mind to rejuvenate whilst his body still performed its tasks. Surov -did- need to eat, and eat a lot, but time he spent preparing food was time he could've spent doing something else, so he had other people- NERV- prepare that.-
[09:33] <Minaplo> [And finally, Surov didn't need to take recouperative breaks because he enjoyed science.-
[09:34] <Minaplo> [So with no need to rest, play or eat anywhere outside of the Geofront, Surov's apartment was hardly a priority. It would've been lucky to have seen him once a month, if that.-
[09:34] <Minaplo> [… And then Navah had split off from Surov.-
[09:35] <Minaplo> [And Navah was an enigma, full of abilities and talents that were impressive and alarming, but she was still at the end of things a young human girl who -did- need to eat, sleep and play. And unlike Surov, she had no tolerance for being locked up in the Geofront forever.-
[09:35] <Minaplo> [So Navah had been the main occupant of the apartment.-
[09:35] <Minaplo> [Next, consider that Navah had… Tastes. Tastes that tended to veer to the expensive and indulgent.-
[09:35] <Minaplo> [And she also had access to Surov's bank accounts.-
[09:36] <Minaplo> [And naturally, Surov barely spent any of his pay…-
[09:36] <Minaplo> [And he didn't care what happened to the apartment, and so Navah had been given not only the resources to do what she wanted to the place, but also the carte blanche of indifference from Surov.-
[09:39] <Minaplo> [And so the place had been laid out with huge, cushy couches; thick, rich carpets and rugs; huge blinds made of velvet; top-of-the-line household appliances; a wall dedicated to entertainment consoles and music players…-
[09:40] <Minaplo> [And then Clement had started to live with them. He'd brought photographs, personal touches…-
[09:41] <Minaplo> [And of course thanks to him, Surov had come home to live properly, and, now required to spend great deals of time in the place, had spent the 'idle hours' doing 'work'. He had fine-tuned the appliances. The apartment was riddled with walls that would turn into big viewing screens. Everything could be managed by voice.-
[09:44] <Minaplo> ["I'm home." Said Surov as he entered. "I brought Irritant and Blanc with me."-
[09:45] <Minaplo> [Doctor Victor Clement was sitting on a couch; nay, nearly sinking into one. A television wall opposite him was showing off some TV drama. He tried to stand, failed, then tried again and stood.-
[09:45] <Minaplo> ["Welcome home, Barzilai, Navah. It's good to see you again, Aline."]
06[09:49] * @Aline …now had a different impulse. The Surov Rules, as she considered them, were still in effect, yet at the same time, she was gawking slightly at the /nigh-ridiculous/ apartment. And then she had an entirely normal person to greet - except, it was the person to whom she was going to apologize about killing his beloved daughter. Suffice it to say her reaction was… not really as
06[09:49] * @Aline coherently one emotion or the other as it should've been. "Ah… hi."
[09:59] <Minaplo> ["How're you going?"]
06[10:08] * @Aline managed to smile now, gently. Always gently. "Alright. I… this is an interesting place, though."
[10:11] <Minaplo> ["It certainly has its own charm…"-
[10:12] <Minaplo> ["Tonight, we are having authentic beef lasagna." Said Surov, who was stalking to the kitchen. "Neapolitan style."-
[10:12] <Minaplo> ["Hehe. The first time Barzy cooked here, he made a big plate of pork ribs." Said Navah smugly. "And the doctor couldn't eat 'em~"-
[10:12] <Minaplo> ["Shut up, Irritant."]
06[10:16] * @Aline was thankfully off-guard enough still that she just sort of continued smiling a bit weirder than normal rather than chuckle at that.
[10:21] <Minaplo> [Navah beamed, skipping off to… Somewhere. Her room, perhaps, leaving Clement and Aline.-
[10:21] <Minaplo> [Clement walked back over to the couch, sitting down. "I've been following this campaign by this Angel." He said. "You guys aren't doing too well, huh…?"]
06[10:28] * @Aline went to a different couch, and faced him. She was at least thankful for another topic, for now. "…Not really. I /think/ we still have a chance to turn it around?"
[10:30] <Minaplo> ["Been thinking up one of those plans of yours, huh?"]
06[10:33] * @Aline looked nervous, a bit… but then nodded. "Nothing amazing, but I've been just reviewing techniques…"
[10:42] <Minaplo> ["Ah… So, how's Shinji doing?"]
06[10:44] * @Aline frowned visibly, reminded now. "…Not well. He got hit hard by the current Angel and the spawn before him."
[10:46] <Minaplo> ["… Ah. I'm sorry."]
06[10:49] * @Aline sighed softly. "It's not really your fault or anything. We have to… as it were, keep going. I'm doing what I can to make him feel better."
[10:53] <Minaplo> ["That's a good attitude."-
[10:54] <Minaplo> ["I feel a little out of place. I should be in the medical wing with you fellows…" He shook his head.-
[10:54] <Minaplo> ["… You don't need to hear about my problems." He smiled. "Did Surov tell you about some of the things he did to keep me alive?"]
06[10:55] * @Aline blinked, barely holding back a twitch at the 'not needing to hear about problems' line. "…Not really, no."
[10:58] <Minaplo> ["Bionic implants. Muscles and lungs and other organs. I was a little leery at first, but now…" He smiled. "I've never breathed so well in my life, and I can run for hours and not get tired. I feel like a new man."]
06[11:01] * @Aline nodded. "Technology cuts both ways, after all. It's not all a… horror show? Yeah."
[11:01] <Minaplo> ["A horror show?"-
[11:01] <Minaplo> ["… Mmm, I think I might know what you mean." He said sheepishly.]
[11:04] <@Aline> "Yeah. I was kinda just referring to what people expect from bionics, after all." Aline said relatively calmly. The change in subject was making her feel somewhat less awkward now.
[11:06] <Minaplo> ["They're useful things, and not as… Wrong as I expected. I'm not comfortable with the idea of people deliberately replacing their limbs with bionics, mind…"]
[11:08] <@Aline> "I can imagine, yes. Most people aren't."
[11:09] <Minaplo> ["Including you?"]
06[11:11] * @Aline shrugged her shoulders vacantly. "Well. It'd be interesting, but I'm kinda leery about chopping off or cutting out things just for that."
[11:16] <Minaplo> [He nodded slowly.-
[11:16] <Minaplo> ["Blanc." Came a voice from the kitchen.]
[11:18] <@Aline> "Ah, I should probably see to that." And Aline stood up - with difficulty, given the deathtraps those couches were - before heading over to the kitchen.
[11:21] <Minaplo> [Surov was in the kitchen, alone, his coat having been taken off. He was preparing dinner, but instead of actually doing it with his hands, his mechadendrites were following an automatic lasagna-making programme, all of them whipping around the kitchen with perfect, soulless precision.-
[11:22] <Minaplo> ["Do not speak to him about it until after dinner." He cautioned.]
06[11:23] * @Aline gave a little bow of her head. "I figured it was something like that."
[11:26] <Minaplo> ["Dinner will be ready in two hours. Think of ways to entertain him."]
[11:32] <@Aline> "Alright then." Simple, to the point. Aline lingered briefly, and if there wasn't a response, she'd wander back off again.
[11:33] <Minaplo> [There wasn't.]
[11:34] <@Aline> So back to Clement it was! She'd have to think about something. Maybe if there was a videogame an older person like him didn't mind…
[11:41] <Minaplo> [He was watching TV currently. Perhaps it was best to ask…?]
06[11:49] * @Aline would, sitting back down at her prior couch. "Hey, Surov just told me that it'll be about 2 hours until dinner's ready. I was wondering…" She tilted her head left then right. "Given that there's probably a whole library of them, was there a videogame you wouldn't mind? I… admit having not grown up with them you might not like them all that much, but… well, it's that or maybe
06[11:49] * @Aline a movie, or continuing to watch TV? I'm… aheh, not so sure I can give sparkling conversation for the whole duration."
[11:51] <Minaplo> ["Ah… A videogame? Actually, I play them more than you think." He smiled. "It's good for your hand-eye coordination."]
06[12:00] * @Aline smiled at that. "Ah, do you have a preference, then? I was obviously thinking of something with at least 2 players."
[12:03] <Minaplo> ["Like a dance game?"]
06[12:08] * @Aline suddenly stared at him, as flashbacks ensued. Tripping over things. Awkward landings. Launching the pad… "Oh, so… uh… Sure." She scratched the back of her neck. "I might want it on a gentler setting, though. To start."
[12:09] <Minaplo> ["Haha. I'm kidding." He said with a smile. "I'm no good at those games anyway. Elena's pretty fantastic at them, though. I think her yoga helps. But let's start with something less intensive."]
[12:29] * Aline slowly nodded, managing to use that to suppress a wince at a mention of Elena. "Competitive puzzle game less-intensive, or just anything without exercise involved?"
[12:30] <Minaplo> ["The latter."]
[12:43] <Aline> "Ahhh." Aline thought for a moment about Lovely Eva Fighter, but realized they probably didn't own it, because it was, well. Weird and indie, despite decent production values. Or so she thought. "…There's fighting games, shooters - though console shooters are a little blah I think - uh… maybe a co-op game somewhere…"
[12:50] <Minaplo> ["I'm not bad at fighting games, actually."]
[13:26] * Aline smiled back at him. "Ah, that's good then. Let's pick one and play a little, huh?"
[13:35] <Minaplo> ["To be fair, we ought to pick one neither of us has played."]
[13:43] <Aline> "Sounds like a good idea." …And so Aline went, rummaging through the games. She'd pull out one after the other, getting a 'no, I've played it before' and sometimes putting one back after looking at it because /she's/ played it… until finally they collectively ran into a fantasy-themed one that looked to be rather obscure. "There we go!" …and she gingerly put in the disc, and… briefly
[13:43] <Aline> watched some of the intro sequence, which seemed to run the mill of standard adventure tropes. She was actually surprised, and briefly read the back. "…Hey, I think I've read the manga this is based on. It's like Lodoss War - based on someone's tabletop RPG. Should be interesting?" Theeen after being fittingly satisfied, she skipped to the start screen.
[13:52] <Minaplo> ["Hm. Manga, that's…"]
[13:56] <Aline> "Japanese comics, if you forget what that meant. It never got an animation, though…" Aline shrugged, and went to the character select screen. There were a number of characters displayed - the vast majority female for some bizarre reason. She cycled through for a while, and settled on one labelled 'Yue Rohay'.
[13:59] <Minaplo> ["Oh, something you got into due to Pilot Ikari?" His own character was an archer-wielding elf whose idle animation involved hopping from one foot to another restlessly.]
[14:03] <Minaplo> <Bow*>
[14:04] <Aline> "Yeah. I would watch some of the shows that aired on local TV, but once I learnt the language…" Aline picked a stage - a siege from the looks of it - and play began. Almost immediately, she'd start pressing random buttons and attempting things like fireball motions… which actually did result in some fire.
[14:11] <Minaplo> [The elf seemed to be more about speed and agility, firing off a lot of rapid-fire attacks. "You've done a lot for his sake."]
[14:13] * Aline was slow to dodge, but managed to perform a few magic counters. "Yes, I guess I have. He was pretty hurt before all of this too, you know."
[14:16] <Minaplo> ["Indeed?"]
[14:32] <Aline> "Yeah. Depressed, neglected…" Aline maneuvered a bit more, seeming to have some but marginal success. Her character was slow. "He was helped a lot by knowing someone cared for him, at least."
[14:33] <Minaplo> ["I had no idea… Were things really that bad?"]
[14:35] <Aline> "Fairly bad. Not at suicidal thoughts or anything, but… depression can be cruel."
[14:35] <Minaplo> ["His parents weren't doing anything to help?"]
[14:37] <Aline> "I… I'm not sure what his mother was doing, but his father didn't seem to care." Aline managed to find a beat in the action to sort of look at him. "You have to have met his father before, right?"
[14:41] <Minaplo> ["Only briefly."]
[14:48] * Aline sighed, and for a brief second her game slipped. A round ended. "Well… Ikari Gendou, as a person, can be categorized as 'distant', 'driven', and a number of other things that a father figure does not make."
[14:51] <Minaplo> ["… Distant." He frowned, looking down at his hands. "Not there for his kids?"]
[14:56] <Aline> "…Not in the slightest. Though there was some favoritism. Rei - Ikari Rei - was more liked than Shinji was, from what I can recall."
[14:57] <Minaplo> [A spray of silver glowing arrows thudded into Aline's character.-
[14:57] <Minaplo> ["Favoritism? Why?"]
[15:01] * Aline reacted with a sudden frame-cancelling combo of some kind of magic sequence. "Honestly, I wouldn't know. I know his general outlook a lot more than I do his parenting choices."
[15:04] <Minaplo> ["Maybe…" He sighed. "Maybe it's not his fault."]
[15:05] <Aline> "…Some kind of…" Aline's thoughts briefly drifted to the 'D-word'. "…situational thing?"
[15:13] <Minaplo> ["Mmm. Perhaps he felt his work was important, and wanted to spend more time with him but his hands were simply tied…"]
[15:19] <Aline> "…" Aline remained silent for a bit, playing onwards. "I think… I think it's at least possible. He alone had this /intense/ drive to do his work…"
[15:28] <Minaplo> [Clement nodded several times. "Yeah. He should've been there for his son, but maybe he needed some help too."]
[15:42] <Aline> "…Maybe. Surely, we all probably do in this world…" Aline's pontifications were messing with her game, but she still managed a good showing this round.
[15:43] <Minaplo> ["Mmm."-
[15:43] <Minaplo> ["… I guess I kind of know where he was coming from."]
[15:45] <Aline> "You? I thought you were pretty diligent on that front."
[15:48] <Minaplo> ["Maybe, but… There were a lot of times where work was more important. A lot of nights where Elena had to come home to a dark and empty house, make her own dinner, do her own homework…"-
[15:48] <Minaplo> ["Not anymore." He said firmly, darkly. "When they find her, never again. I'll make sure to always be there…"]
[15:50] * Aline suddenly turned more attention to the game. By now they had probably switched characters and matches, but that was scarcely that important. "Good on you."
[15:55] <Minaplo> ["I haven't been there for her when she needed me. When she was being bullied…"]
[15:59] * Aline shook her head a few times, and sighed. "…Well, at least we know that has really stopped." Possibly because school wasn't really a thing anymore.
[16:05] <Minaplo> ["You're probably looking forward to when she comes back, right?"]
[16:06] * Aline paused again. Come on, think of a way to intepret… aha! "Well, I'm sure it'll be nice when that happens. She'll probably be happier for it."
[16:14] <Minaplo> ["She has a long life ahead of her." He said quietly, wistfully. "She's done well, even with a father like me."]
[16:15] <Aline> "You are /not/ that bad, okay? There's been some ups and downs but…" Aline almost sounded… frustrated? Twitchy? But she managed to pull it into a nicer tone by the end.
[16:21] <Minaplo> ["You're kind." He said with a small smile. "But you've helped her in school more than I have."]
[16:38] <Minaplo> [16:21] <Minaplo> ["You're kind." He said with a small smile. "But you've helped her in school more than I have."]
[16:40] <Aline> "…I guess… I have, huh? Huh." Aline settled for sounding dumbfounded.
[16:41] <Minaplo> ["Maybe it's natural for teenagers to have more help from other teenagers…?"]
[16:43] <Aline> "Maybe you should ask Dr. Castillo-Delgado sometime, I'm sure he's done a fair amount of study on developmental psych."
[16:47] <Minaplo> ["Ah, sorry. Am I bothering you?"]
[16:49] * Aline noticed this, and slightly bristled. "…A little. I do miss her, so…"
[16:57] <Minaplo> ["S-Sorry. Uh… You're good at this game."]
[16:59] * Aline stared at the game a bit. "Don't be too sorry. It's… uh, natural to worry and think things over?"
[17:09] <Minaplo> ["Yeah… You're probably right."-
[17:09] <Minaplo> [Another hour would pass, with awkward, small-talk conversation being predominant.-
[17:09] <Minaplo> [Eventually, Aline would hear Surov's call. "Food is ready!"]
[17:12] * Aline had happened to have the luck of being on the character select screen, so she just reached over to turn the console and TV off. Because voice commands were awkward anyway. "Well, looks like he's done cooking!" Aline /tried/ to say with a high note. Mostly succeeding.
[17:18] <Minaplo> ["It smells good."-
[17:19] <Minaplo> ["Of course it does." Said Navah, emerging from her room. "He's always putting in 150% for you~"]
[17:22] * Aline resisted the urge to comment too much on the relational subtext, lest it be… sorely misinterpreted. "Well, it /is/ probably pretty good."
[17:28] <Minaplo> ["It is a perfect recipe." Said Surov, gliding out of the kitchen, the huge dish of lasagne in his hands. He placed it on the table- which had been set- along with a caesar salad and a plate of garlic bread.-
[17:28] <Minaplo> ["It looks amazing as always, Barzilai." Said Clement appreciatively, taking a seat. Surov didn't respond, merely pausing for a moment before he began to dish up, Clement's plate looking suspiciously overloaded by the end of it.]
[17:33] * Aline eyed said plate. Predictable enough. But nonetheless, she sat down, at an oblique angle from Dr. Clement, so as to not take up the across OR the adjacent seat, depending on what ~Barzy-warzy~ was going to pick. She was at least a little cheered up by that brief indulgence of silliness.
[17:35] <Minaplo> [Surov took neither, instead taking the seat at the head of the table. "Eat."]
[17:40] * Aline blinked a bit at the brusque way he delivered that, before… going ahead and doing so. Well, okay, so he's probably still too stiff to subtext that far.
[07:09] <Minaplo> ["Hey, you shoulda brought Shinji along to dinner." Said Navah knowingly.]
06[07:13] * @Aline sort of… briefly glanced at Navah. "…Not sure if he'd enjoy it or if he'd be awkward the whole night through, so I decided against it." Aline… diplomatically said.
[07:17] <Minaplo> ["Did you ask?"]
06[07:18] * @Aline puffed out a sigh. "…No. I think I've been afraid to."
03[07:25] * Minaplo|Ping (~ua.ten.tenii.nyd.201-631-6-85|olpaniM#ua.ten.tenii.nyd.201-631-6-85|olpaniM) has joined #nervfrance3

[07:34] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Why?"]
06[07:39] * @Aline looked around, and distracted herself with a brief bite of lasagna. "…His AT condition makes seeing new people rather confronting and, depending on the person, sometimes even traumatic. And there was a time where, due to seeing me differently, I counted as 'new and traumatic'."
[07:47] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Oh."-
[07:47] <Minaplo|Ping> ["But I -like- Shinji."]
06[07:52] * @Aline would, in another position, have patted her on the head, even knowing the girl was effectively an equal due to her genius. But instead, she just lowered her fork into the lasagna, not eating yet but instead just doing it as a gesture. "Alas."
[07:57] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Still, you're gonna… Y'know." Navah leaned over.-
[07:58] <Minaplo|Ping> ["How much is that doggy in the window…" She winked knowingly.]
06[08:00] * @Aline just rolled her eyes. "…Mmh." And busied herself with eating, because that was the sort of thing you didn't dignify with a response.
[08:12] <Minaplo|Ping> ["You know who else should be here?" Asked Navah, turning to Surov. "S-"-
[08:13] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Be quiet. That is a secret."]
06[08:15] * @Aline raised a brow, and was tempted to comment, but decided to dig in with even more ferocity. If she were someone looser-lipped, this'd be primo gossip material!
[08:24] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Aline. Your food. Is it good?" Asked Surov bluntly.]
06[08:27] * @Aline looked up from said food, and smiled. "Ah yes, it's excellent."
[08:40] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Do you cook much, Aline?" Asked Clement kindly.]

06[08:46] * @Aline mused the question a bit, still smiling. "Not tons. I know a few recipes though, but I'm no master chef…"
[08:55] <Minaplo|Ping> ["I could give you some recipes." Said Surov. "If you wish, I could surgically implant a digital miniature computer into your brain, allowing you to access them directly."]
06[08:57] * @Aline chuckled lightly, knowing though that he was in no way kidding. "Ah, that won't be necessary, I'm not optioning for elective surgeries right now."
[09:00] <Minaplo|Ping> [Surov scoffed. "Why not?"]
06[09:03] * @Aline wracked her brain for a moment. "Right now, a cross between lack of need, and general discomfort."

[09:22] <Minaplo|Ping> ["I could alter that discomfort, too-"-
[09:23] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Barzilai." Said Victor gently.-
[09:23] <Minaplo|Ping> ["… Never mind."]
06[09:29] * @Aline actually looked more amused than anything else. "Indeed. So…" She looked around briefly. "I see everyone has been settling into the apartment relatively nicely?"
[09:31] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Mm. The insect went berserk with the interior decorating whilst I was away." Said Surov flatly.]
06[09:34] * @Aline briefly had a wistful imagining based on the word 'berserk', of EVA-00 with a paintbrush going to town on Paris-2. She quickly snapped out of it though. "I don't mind per se, though it's a bit opulent."
[09:45] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Not as bad as the battleship." Said Navah.-
[09:46] <Minaplo|Ping> ["The battleship? I'm not overly acquainted with all that…" Said Clement.]
06[09:58] * @Aline had a wry smile, though it also had a bit of an embarrassed note. "Well, you have to keep in mind… The battleship was originally created to be the pleasure-warship of a reborn Silas Caine… or his army at least, with all the ego that comes with that. There's gold and automated cleaning and giant frescoes and so on, all Brother- or LN-themed. And the auto-cleaning tends to keep
06[09:58] * @Aline us from /un/decorating the place."
[10:06] <Minaplo|Ping> ["How persistent." Said Clement with a smile. "It seems the man was determined to be remembered. To live on in one way or another…"]
[10:07] <@Aline> "It's not unsurprising, considering that he's come back after death in one form or another 3 times."
[10:12] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Did you ever meet Silas personally?" Asked Surov.]
06[10:13] * @Aline eyed Surov. "…No, not really. Perhaps you have a different perspective on him?"
[10:22] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Different? I think what I will say is not unusual to you, but is… Different, yes."-
[10:23] <Minaplo|Ping> ["He was tenacious. Driven to excel. Surrender was not an option, and he applied this in everything he did."]
06[10:27] * @Aline slowly nodded her head. "You're right, that wasn't that unusual to me… Mm."
[13:52] <@Minaplo> ["How do you remember him, then?"]
[13:54] * Aline looked down at her lasagna. "Mostly as an opponent. Very tenacious, yes… involved in his image and such… Hmm. Also I remember that when he became Big Brother he was unrepentantly /loud/." The last bit was said with some annoyance.
[14:05] <@Minaplo> ["He captured you in that battle."]
[14:07] * Aline nodded rather glumly. "Yes. I don't know the extent to which the Brothers under their own Chantry were like him, but there was a fair bit of smugness at times, but there was also a certain philosophical bent, something about events just being, or… something. I didn't quite follow at the time."
[14:15] <@Minaplo> ["I see." Said Surov, before turning to his meal and starting to eat.-
[14:24] <@Minaplo> [The rest of the meal passed amicably enough. Surov was typically too blunt to carry a conversation, but Navah and Clement managed to keep the mood light.]
[14:27] * Aline was glad for the lightness of mood for the most part at least. It helped her finish her food in peace…
[14:33] <@Minaplo> [Surov and Navah worked to clear the plates, taking them into the kitchen to wash- leaving Clement and Aline alone. Surov gave Aline a Look before he went.]
[14:36] * Aline looked to Clement. He was probably fairly happy… but the truth was a dread engine of destruction at times, times like now. "Dr. Clement… There's something I have to tell you, something you won't want to hear - but must know."
[14:41] <@Minaplo> ["…?" He turned to look at her, confusion in his expression.]
[14:43] * Aline swallowed air, and looked dreadfully nervous. "There's a reason I'm telling you this now, with Surov nearby. He lied about the status of your daughter."
[14:47] <@Minaplo> ["…" Clement's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"]
[14:53] <Aline> "Nothing good." Aline echoed with different words her earlier warning. "She was onboard EVA-22, mere minutes from total dissolution from its domination, when that unit was destroyed." Aline had, during the sentence, cringed rather visibly - the kind of cringe one makes when they expected a blow to the face. She didn't /think/ Clement was like that, but she was afraid all the same.
[14:58] <Minaplo|Ping> ["… This isn't funny."]
[15:01] * Aline shook her head solemnly. "I'm not laughing. As a doctor I imagine you're familiar with the process, even if psychology isn't your specialty…?"
[15:06] <Minaplo|Ping> ["Stop it." Said Clement, his face white with anger. He got to his feet. "You're talking nonsense. EVA-22- there's no reason she'd even be in an Evangelion!"]
[15:16] <Aline> "I didn't believe it either, but I remember it!" Aline was starting to tear up, but stayed seated. "She contacted us over the radio… She only had time to identify herself, before… before /he/ took over. Before Jeremiah Caine, soul of EVA-22, took over. She cried out for you. She /cried out/ for you!"
[15:27] <Minaplo> ["Shut up! I don't want to hear this!"]
[15:29] * Aline shook her head even more frantically. "Y-you can't just live hidden from the truth forever though! I'm sorry… I'm sorry! I know it's not enough. It's not enough. It's never enough…"
[15:35] <Minaplo> [Footsteps as Surov re-emerged, looking at them both with a knowing expression.-
[15:36] <Minaplo> ["Barzilai, she- she's telling me you lied, that Elena's dead- she's-"-
[15:36] <Minaplo> ["Correct." Said Surov quietly.-
[15:36] <Minaplo> ["…"-
[15:37] <Minaplo> [Clement stared at them both, his head whipping between them. "No… No, it… Why?!"-
[15:37] <Minaplo> [Surov didn't know what why he meant. Why Elena? Why the Evangelion? He answered what he could. "Because I did not want to hurt you."]
[15:41] <Aline> "I… you'd find out eventually." Aline began. "At least, without great effort against it. But… I didn't mean to… she… it's… it was a really terrible thing and I'm sure there's some connection that made Mary Caine think she was suitable for EVA-22 but it didn't really matter she was just a pawn and I… I just… I wish it hadn't happened, but… you have to understand what happened."
[15:52] <Minaplo> ["Shut up. Just shut up- go away. Go away, go away!" He began pacing back and forth across the room quickly, agitatedly, before turning away from them and covering his face with his hands.-
[15:52] <Minaplo> ["Elena- why? Why? She had nothing to do with this! She didn't do anything to anyone!"-
[15:53] <Minaplo> [Surov watched on, his expression difficult to read. He turned to Aline. "You should leave."]
[15:55] * Aline …slowly nodded. She thought, herself, that it was cowardly and that she was responsible and that she should stick it out, but… the good thing about Surov is that, even if he disregards personal discomfort, when he gives advice of /that/ sort, it's probably pretty solid. So she stood up, walking off into the distance of some other part of the apartment, on the way beyond its
[15:55] * Aline confines.
