For Meeting A Nemesis

[14:26] <Yanmei> It was her last day of freedom for days. Nay, eons… and Yanmei was spending it doing something that she detested. Driven from her apartment to run some last minute errands, -
[14:27] <Yanmei> she had been beset upon by a cruel and opportunistic UN Attache, who added to her tasks with an urgent delivery that she wanted her to make for her. ANd so here she was. In the apartment building of Jerkface Alexandre Fontaine. Staring at his apartment door with an envelope in hand. -
[14:27] <Yanmei> It was with great reluctance that she knocked.
[14:29] <Alexandre> [The door opened.-
[14:29] <Alexandre> "Come i- oh, hello."
[14:30] * Yanmei thrust the envelope at him, at eye-level. "Just take it."
[14:31] * Alexandre took the envelope. "Ah, excellent."
[14:35] <Yanmei> "'Excellent'? You were expecting this, then?"
[14:38] <Alexandre> "But of course." Said Alexandre, smirking. "Do you know what this is?"
[14:39] <Yanmei> "A letter from Ariadne? I'm guessing it's some sort of invitation to something."
[14:40] <Alexandre> "Well, I -could- tell you…"
[14:42] <Yanmei> "But what?" she sensed a conditional there, and she haughtily tossed her head. "Like I care enough about it to do you any favors?"
[14:42] <Alexandre> "Oh, you couldn't do -me- any favours." Said Alexandre airily. "I just want to see if you want to know, that's all."
[14:47] * Yanmei frowned at him. "Well, aren't you the master of suspense. Like I said, I don't care. But since you're waving it around with such obvious glee, you may as well tell me."
[14:47] <Alexandre> "Then why don't you come in?"
[14:49] * Yanmei eyed the doorframe resting between them, as if she half-expected to stumble over an invisible bear trap on her way inside. Still, she moved forward.
[14:51] <Alexandre> Yanmei had seen the apartment before, and it was every bit as stylish and upper-class as it had been then. "Drink?"
[14:52] <Yanmei> "No thanks." Yanmei shook her head. Being in this place felt -weird-. If it was anyone else's apartment, she would be full of chatter and compliments about the furniture.
[14:55] <Alexandre> "Fair enough." And now that Yanmei was inside, she'd be able to smell the tantalising aroma of someone cooking a chicken curry. "Anyway. Awhile ago I wrote a letter to the head of the Human Instrumentality Committee. They're my mother's bosses."
[14:58] <Yanmei> Intrumentality Committee. Her attention was hooked. "And why would you do that, I wonder?"
[15:01] <Alexandre> "It was a request for transfer."
[15:03] <Yanmei> "Huh?" Yanmei went wide-eyed for a moment, but then caught herself. "Yeah right. Quit getting my hopes up."
[15:03] <Alexandre> "You're so mean." Said Alexandre.
[15:05] <Yanmei> "It's bad form to call someone mean just because they see through your tricks~"
[15:05] <Alexandre> "It isn't a trick." Said Alexandre, opening the envelope with a letter opener.
[15:11] <Yanmei> "…" Yanmei watched him do that with a certain amount of tension. "Well? N-not that I actually believe you."
[15:12] <Alexandre> "Hmph." He withdrew the letter, skimmed over the contents. Then finally, he held out the letter to Yanmei.
[15:13] * Yanmei took it and began to read it too.
[15:13] <Alexandre> [The letter, in summary: Alexandre Fontaine's request to be transferred to NERV Algeria's Science and Experimental Testing Division had been accepted, and would be executed on the 1st of February 2016.]
[15:14] * Yanmei blinked hard. Algeria? February?
[15:16] <Alexandre> "See? No trick."
[15:20] <Yanmei> "Whatever. You can't blame me for thinking that?" She folded the letter, held it back out to him, and tried a cruel smirk… although her heart wasn't exactly in it now. "Why the sudden change of scenary? Did you and Mommy have a fight or something?"
[15:20] * Alexandre frowned, taking the letter back. "I'm tired of this place. I want to go somewhere where I'll be useful."
[15:23] <Yanmei> "Well, well. That -would- be a change." … "You could have mentioned it sooner, though? The transfer date isn't that far off."
[15:25] * Alexandre quirked an eyebrow. "I'm surprised you care."
[15:26] <Yanmei> "Let's not get carried away, here. I'm just… surprised, that's all."
[15:28] <Alexandre> "Hm." Alexandre smirked. "No doubt you'll be happy. No more Alexandre Fontaine around to annoy you…"
[15:33] <Yanmei> "Ha! Happier than you could imagine. No more annoying teasing from the Major and Ariadne either."
[15:33] <Alexandre> "I guess that makes two of us." Said Alexandre, putting the letter down. "Some curry?"
[15:36] <Yanmei> "Why not?" She shrugged. It could be like a little celebration. "I'm suprised you cook, though?"
[15:57] * Alexandre grabbed two bowls, filled them with rice and curry. He put one down in front of Yanmei. "Not sure why you're surprised. Plenty of time to practice, I've had."
[16:00] * Yanmei accepted her meal with a surprisingly polite 'thank you', but she didn't dig in just yet, glancing around the large but otherwise quiet apartment.
[16:01] <Alexandre> "I'll have to give you my phone number."
[16:05] <Yanmei> "… she's not going to try to stop you, is she?" It was if she hadn't heard. And her voice was reproachful at best.
[14:15] <Alexandre> "I don't think she can." Said Alexandre, swallowing a mouthful of rice and curry.
[14:17] <Yanmei> "Yeah. If it's from the Committee, there's not a thing she can do. But…"
[14:17] <Alexandre> "But…?"
[14:19] <Yanmei> "Don't you want her to at least try to get you to reconsider?" Yanmei pushed her rice around a little with her fork. "Even if it totally doesn't work? Something like that wouldn't be too bad."
[14:21] <Alexandre> "Sort of." Said Alex diffidently. "This is something I want to do. But… If my mother said she didn't want me to go, then that'd be… Well, it'd make me feel good."
[14:24] <Yanmei> "I know, right?" She finally took a bite. "Well. Edgar at least will be really broken up about it, I bet."
[14:25] <Alexandre> "He'll get over it." Said Alex. "He has his sister, it's not like he'll be lonely."
[14:27] <Yanmei> "A sister? Really?" She tried to imagine it, and the best she could do was to picture Edgar himself wearing a hairbow. She shook her head. "Must be nice."
[14:28] <Alexandre> "Mmm. It certainly keeps Edgar grounded." Said Alex.
[14:33] <Yanmei> "Yeah, but… Keep this to yourself, but when I was a kid, I sometimes wished that I had a brother or sister or something. That way, I wouldn't have to come home to an empty house." She chuckled thoughtfully. "Of course, I probably would have ended up minding them by myself all the time. That only occurred to me when I got a little older."
[14:33] * Alexandre lets out a chuckle. "Heh. Your mother was pretty busy, huh?"
[14:38] <Yanmei> "Early to work, late coming home. Plenty of days sleeping at the office, and lots of overnight travelling, too. After a certain point there were lots of overseas trips too. I barely even saw her on the weekends."
[14:56] <Alexandre> "That's rough." Said Alex sympathetically. "I can see why you'd want a sibling. My parents were like it too. Still are." He said dryly. "Y'know, that's one of the good things about the Neospartan program."
[14:59] <Yanmei> "Well, you all seem pretty close," Yanmei admitted.
[15:00] <Alexandre> "Mmmhmm." Said Alex. "But then again, it's not like you don't have siblings. Aren't you part of the ~great~ ~family~ of ~pilots~?"
[15:03] * Yanmei sighed. "God, that thing. Well, whatever. It could be worse."
[15:04] <Alexandre> "Hahaha." Alex reached over, ruffled Yanmei's hair. "Don't be an idiot."
[15:08] <Yanmei> "Ghk!" B-bastard! Because it was him, an already demeaning and annoying gesture was made that much worse. Hastily, she tried to smooth down her hair. "You're the idiot," she scoffed.
[15:09] * Alexandre smirked gleefully. "Me? But come on. Even you have to admit that you've benefitted from the ~family~."
[15:13] <Yanmei> "Yeah, yeah. You can make that point without being annoying about it, though." She sobered a little. "Looks like the 'family' is gonna expand pretty soon. A total of 20 EVA units by the end of 2016, they're saying."
[15:14] <Alexandre> "20?" Alex quirked an eyebrow. "That's a lot of places to fill. How can they afford 20 units anyway?"
[15:15] <Yanmei> Supposedly, they're researching ways to drastically bring down the cost of manufacturing them? I'm not sure how, though."
[15:17] <Alexandre> "Huh. Probably using S2 organs…"
[15:17] <Yanmei> "And those would be…?"
[15:18] <Alexandre> "Science stuff. My dad worked on them. Care to listen?"
[15:19] <Yanmei> "Why not?" She took another mouthful of curry.
[15:19] <Alexandre> "Alright. I want you to picture an Angel."
[15:21] <Yanmei> Gazardial popped into her head easily. "Done."
[15:22] <Alexandre> "Now. An Angel is a living creature, right? What does it eat?"
[15:23] <Yanmei> "Who knows? Other Angels, maybe?"
[15:24] * Alexandre snickered. "No, but it's a fair guess. But let me put it like this. An Angel is a living creature. You are also a living creature, so you both need to eat. Why do you need to eat?"
[15:26] <Yanmei> "Because that's how humans get their energy, of course. Are you saying that Angels do it some other way? Like… plants?"
[15:26] * Alexandre grins. "Yes and no. Plants get their energy from the sun and water, right?"
[15:28] <Yanmei> "Of course."
[15:30] <Alexandre> "Now, this is basically like a factory. You put coal into a factory, you get electricity out… All simple stuff. But the things these all have in common is that they follow the law of Conservation of Energy: you need to put something -in- to get something -out-. You need to eat food to live. Plants need sunlight. A factory needs coal…"
[15:34] <Yanmei> "And Angels need what?" Yanmei frowned. "EVAs are kept running through the energy supplied by umbilical cords, but… I've never seen an Angel like that."
[15:35] * Alexandre grins. "Angels -don't-."
[15:37] <Yanmei> "Why and how?" she demanded.
[15:46] <Alexandre> "They have an organ in their bodies called the Super Solenoid Organ. To put it simply, it doesn't require any intake. All it does is produce energy." Alexandre grinned. "This is what powers an Angel. And that's the thing: all energy is, normally, based off of conversion. Food to human energy. The more food, the more energy. It's a ratio. 1:1. But remove the intake, it becomes 0:1." Alexandre tapped the table. "If you produce energy without consuming energy, then you automatically are capable of producing effectively -limitless- power."
[15:49] <Yanmei> "Can something like that really be replicated, though? Although," Yanmei sighed, "I guess I shouldn't be surprised by anything anymore."
[15:50] * Alexandre laughs, leaning back in his chair. "Replicated? We have a working prototype already. Well. Not -exactly- a prototype…"
[15:52] <Yanmei> "What does -that- mean? One of the new units already has one of those installed, then?"
[15:54] <Alexandre> "No no. It's simple. Before Second Impact, the S2 Organ was a theory- a theory that saw my father ridiculed and seen as a fringe scientist. But Second Impact proved that it existed- we just didn't have a working prototype." Alex grinned, and ate a mouthful of curry. "… Until you guys killed Asmodel. Very clean kill…"
[15:58] <Yanmei> "Oh, right. The one that -didn't- explode. So NERV has been all over it, huh?"
[15:58] * Alexandre grinned. "Of course. Where did you think the data came from for 04's stronger body?"
[16:02] <Yanmei‘> "Trial and error? It’s certainly gotten trashed a fair few times."
[16:02] <Alexandre> "Haha. A little bit, but an awful lot of it has been adapting Asmodel's DNA to 04's body."
[12:22] <Yanmei> "Creepy," Yanmei muttered under her breath. "But they're part Angel or something anyway, right? So logically, it makes sense to alter them like that."
[12:30] * Alexandre nodded. "That's right. Do you like your wonderful new toy?" He asked dryly.
[12:33] * Yanmei frowned at that. "Tch. I don't remember thinking of 04 like that."
[12:36] <Alexandre> "What -do- you think of 04, anyway?"
[12:45] <Yanmei> "04 is… difficult to put to words." She remembered the poor, miserable young Alexandre from her dream, and stared down at her curry. "04 is difficult in general. For now, I can just think of it as an ally."
[12:45] <Alexandre> "A-ha-." Said Alexandre. "Yes, I've noted you've had some… Problems."
[12:47] <Yanmei> "The berserking. I know."
[12:47] <Alexandre> "What's it like?"
[12:48] <Yanmei> "You don't want to know."
[12:50] * Alexandre folds his hands together and stares at Yanmei. "… It hurt you, huh?"
[12:54] <Yanmei> "You're a nosy guy, Alexandre Fontaine," she grumbled. "Or… no. I guess you're not. The last time, 04 let me know who it used to be when it was alive."
[12:55] <Alexandre> "Oh yeah?"
[12:57] <Yanmei> "Don't say 'oh yeah,' like you don't have any idea. You went to visit him in that cell he was locked in back then, didn't you?"
[12:58] * Alexandre blinked, tilting his head to the side. "…?"
[12:59] * Yanmei stared back. "Don't… don't tell me you don't know…"
[13:00] <Alexandre> "I don't know." Said Alexandre, mystified.
[13:04] <Yanmei> "Oh… oh god." What the hell was wrong with his mother? Why hadn't she told him about this? A cold sweat started around her collar, but she tried to ignore it. "In that case, maybe you should forget about it? The memories I was shown were not happy ones."
[13:08] <Alexandre> "…" Alexandre leaned forward. "Yanmei, I want to tell you a story."
[13:09] <Yanmei> "Sure, that's fine." Anything to change the topic.
[13:13] <Alexandre> "Once upon a time, there was a girl named Zhang Yanmei." Said Alexandre dryly. "Who knew a boy named Alexandre Fontaine. She also knew that she was the pilot of the war machine Alexandre Fontaine had been destined for, then rejected by. Alexandre Fontaine has always wanted to know why he was rejected, and who exactly EVA-04 was, and when Zhang Yanmei found out some information about EVA-04, she told Alexandre that she knew, but didn't tell him -what-, and then Alexandre Fontaine, appropriately enough, became annoyed and upset."
[13:16] <Yanmei> "You're not going to relax and let this go, are you?" Yanmei snorted. "Well, if you want to get burned by the truth that badly, why should I spare your feelings?"
[13:17] <Alexandre> "What can I say?" Said Alex mildly, swallowing a mouthful of curry. "I've never had patience for nonsense like 'you don't want to know'."
[13:21] <Yanmei> "What-ever." It was hard on her too, telling this stuff to people. Not that she would let him know. "I don't know why you were rejected. And I don't know why I got picked. I'll tell you that up front. But… about your old man…"
[13:23] <Alexandre> "… My old man?"
[13:24] <Yanmei> "Your father," she corrected herself, using a more refined choice of words, "He got sick after EVA-01 was completed, didn't he? And he didn't treat you or anyone else so nicely after that."
[13:27] <Alexandre> "That's right." Said Alexandre quietly. "There was a severe accident with the imprinting process. It divided him… Stripped away all of his loving side, all of his decency and his genius. Left him a mad man." There's a peculiar light in Alex's eyes.
[13:29] <Yanmei> "What if… I told you that someone thought it was a good idea to imprint the remains of that mad man's personality into another EVA?" she said quietly.
[13:31] * Alexandre was stock still. "… I know where you're going with this." Said Alex. "But that's ridiculous. There's- it'd be too uncontrollable."
[13:36] <Yanmei> "Yeah. Tell me about it," she muttered bitterly. "I can't say why it was done. 04 conveyed that it was created to be as destructive as possible. That destroying everything was its purpose, and that after it did that…"
[13:38] <Alexandre> "… That's-" Alexandre was staring at his curry. "… They put the angry, hateful man I saw in that cell into an Evangelion. So it could destroy everything…" He balled his hand into a fist. "… A-And rebuild afterwards? That's what you mean, isn't it?"
[13:43] * Yanmei let her eyes widen a little, but then she looked away again. "That's right. Did someone tell you about a plan like that when you were little?"
[13:44] <Alexandre> "It… Not exactly, it…" Alex trembled for a moment. "It… It was a story my father told me…"
[13:44] <Yanmei> "A story?"
[13:47] <Alexandre> "A… A story. About the creation of the world. Not… Not that one." He said, his gaze flicking up towards Yanmei. "A story about three gods of India."
[13:50] <Yanmei> "Go on." Still not using eye contact. She had a feeling she wouldn't like wat she heard.
[14:01] <Alexandre> "The first was Brahma, the Creator, who created humanity." Said Alexandre. "The second was Vishnu, who preserves and protects the world. And finally, Shiva, who destroys the world so it can be remade anew."
[14:05] <Yanmei> "So these three gods… together they made the world that we know?"
[14:06] * Alexandre nodded.
[14:08] <Yanmei> "The protector, the creator, and the destroyer. Those describe the personalities of the EVAs of Paris-2 pretty well, not just 04. What are they… why would NERV make them like that?"
[14:09] <Alexandre> "My father felt that… There was more to the Evangelion than just as a tool to defeat the Angels."
[14:14] <Yanmei> "Tell me one thing? When 04 was talking about destroying the world… it's not something its actually capable of doing, right?"
[14:16] * Alexandre let out a sigh. "It… -Could-." Admitted Alex. "Any of the Evangelions could."
[14:23] <Yanmei> "I knew it." Yanmei tensed. "It's all their fault. Caine and NERV and the Commander. Because they were following their stupid ideals without thinking of anyone else! Because of them, so many people are going to die!"
[14:26] <Alexandre> "Shhhh." Growls Alex, holding back from turning his words into a 'shut up'. "You know as well as I do that just because the Evangelions -can- destroy the world doesn't mean they will. My f… 04 might want to. But 01 doesn't. Nor does 00, I'm betting, or 02, or 03, or 05 or 06. And then there's the countermeasures there to make sure the Evangelions do what -we- say."
[14:29] <Yanmei> "They had better be damn powerful ones." she muttered. "Better than the measures that are in place to keep them from berserking?"
[14:30] <Alexandre> "Ah yes. Competent pilots."
[14:30] * Alexandre lets a sly grin slide across his face, because he's -still- Alexandre.
[14:30] * Yanmei glowered at him. Bastard.
[14:31] <Alexandre> "Nevertheless, there -are- limitations. Power limits. Restraining bolts and the like. Lobotomied minds… And if all else fails, the chance of three Evangelions berserking at once are low."
[14:34] <Yanmei> "It's not impossible? But… unlikely, yes, I suppose."
[14:35] * Alexandre sagged in the chair as he picked at his curry. "You know, maybe it's not what you think, this destroying-the-world idea."
[14:38] <Yanmei> "I would be happy to hear of an alternative idea. I know what I heard in the memories that 04 showed me, but because he was insane, it's hard to know how much faith to place in those words."
[14:41] <Alexandre> "Well… Maybe 04 is just intending to change the world." Said Alex. "Maybe… Maybe change humanity. To 'destroy' the old world by making sure the new totally eclipses it."
[14:43] <Yanmei> "That's awfully deep. When he talks of destroying things, it's pretty hard not to take him literally?"
[14:44] <Alexandre> "Well…" Alexandre fidgeted. "If my f- er. If 04 is trying to emulate Shiva, he won't want to destroy the world just for the sake of it. He'll destroy the world, and he'll destroy humanity, but only so humanity can be remade into something else. Something… Without the things 04 hates."
[14:52] <Yanmei> "Nngh." Yanmei seemed pretty disquieted by that, as he went through the very very very very long list of things the EVA professed a hatred for. "He hates NERV, you know."
[14:57] <Alexandre> "My father said as much, in the cell. He…" Alexandre paused awkwardly.
[15:00] <Yanmei> "He…?" Yanmei didn't exactly smile, but her face did soften a little. "I've heard him say a lot of bad stuff. What is it?"
[15:04] <Alexandre> "He said NERV was full of selfish people with mere human ideals." Said Alexandre sadly. "People with base ambitions like money, or superficial happiness… And the ones who weren't were deluded and insane." He stared down at the curry. "He told me… I remember. The last thing he told me was that, when I'd grown sick of the world, when I hated every part of it, to come to him… And we'd destroy it together."
[15:10] <Yanmei> "Destroy it together," she echoed. She shifted a little uncomfortably. "Somehow, you don't strike me as the sort to try to accomplish that even if you were sick of the world?"
[15:11] * Alexandre lets out a hollow chuckle. "I was a young kid who saw the dad he loved to bits reduced to a monster in a cell. I promised myself after that… I promised I'd never, ever become as bad as that. So you're right."
[15:14] <Yanmei> "Sorry. Seeing him like that must've been hell, and now there's all this on top of it."
[15:16] <Alexandre> "It hurts." Admitted Alex.
[15:25] <Yanmei> "I can only imagine." Yanmei frowned. For a while, she kept quiet, poking absently at her meal with her fork.
[15:26] <Alexandre> "Mm." Alex took another mouthful of curry. "… H-hey. I have something to show you." He said, in a fairly obvious changing-the-subject attempt.
[15:27] <Yanmei> "Oh yeah? Does this have to do with you moving?"
[15:28] <Alexandre> "Nah. It's just a fun thing I had lying around, figured you'd want to look at it."
[15:29] <Yanmei> "Huh. I guess I'm curious now."
[15:30] * Alexandre headed over to a bookshelf- he tugged a thick photo album out, put it down in front of Yanmei.
[15:32] * Yanmei blinked down at it. It was a photo album, so it was probably filled with all sorts of memories from kiddy Alex. She just had to trust him not to show her anything awkward or blackmail worthy. She didn't think he would, anyway. Slowly, she opened it.
[15:35] <Alexandre> [The first page saw… Faces staring out at her. Snapshots of a familiar-looking young boy- the boy she'd seen in the memory. But he was older, a little taller, and stronger… And he wasn't alone. Every picture saw him next to a girl with bright red hair, her face and eyes confident and cocky even then. They smiled, they posed- in one picture the girl was pinning the boy to the ground, grabbing his hair.]
[15:44] * Yanmei stared, and thn broke into laughter. "Awww. Weren't you the cutest widdle pair of kids?" She smirked. "Seriously, though. It's like the girl hasn't changed."
[15:45] <Alexandre> "Asuka is Asuka." Said Alex with a grin. "But, you know, she's changed a little. I can tell."
[15:46] <Yanmei> "Hm. She's… mellowed a little, even from the first time I met her. Still pushy, though."
[15:52] <Alexandre> "Hahahaha. She's easier to handle." Said Alex. "She admits weakness a little more. Do you know what she told me the other day?"
[15:54] <Yanmei> "What's that?"
[15:55] * Alexandre cleared his throat. "'Tell that stupid idiot Yanmei to give me a call some time. I thought she was my friend and I don't hear a word from her in ages! Doesn't she know I miss her?!'"
[16:03] <Yanmei> "Well it's not like my cell's gotten a constant stream of calls from her either," Yanmei huffed. She turned a few more pages in the album. "I'd better do something soon, though, otherwise I won't hear the end of it."
[16:03] <Alexandre> "Hah."-
[16:05] <Alexandre> [Pictures of other people. A girl who could only be Tsubaki, albeit a Tsubaki with a sharp look in her eye- a young Edgar, next to a pretty, but strong-looking girl with dark red hair. A young, sullen-looking Atticus… A very handsome boy had his arm around Atticus, a boy with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes that Yanmei didn't recognise.]
[16:08] * Yanmei scrutinized them all. The ones she didn't recognized… casualties of the program? Maybe they were alive somewhere, but she and the other non-Neospartans just hadn't met them yet. "Who are these guys?"
[16:13] * Alexandre pointed. "That's Milhail Kalinin." He pointed at one boy. "He ended up shooting himself…" Pointed to another. "George West, an American Neospartan. Still alive, I think." Pointed to a girl. "Liang Xiaomei, who ran away and never returned…" Another. "Cheryl Leander. Tried to escape and died of exposure." He pointed to the boy with the blonde hair and blue eyes. "… And that was Silas Caine. Big Brother Silas, we called him. He was killed trying to save Atticus from something dumb."
[16:19] * Yanmei sobered as he went through the names. She'd been right. Most were kids that she would never meet after all. The last name stuck out at her the most, though. "Caine," she muttered under her breath.
[16:20] <Alexandre> "He was… Our leader. Our wonderful genius leader." Said Alex fondly. "Our big brother, everyone's best friend. … He's the one that's taken over Shinji Ikari's mind, thanks to his father, Azariah."
[16:27] <Yanmei> "I heard, from Blanc." Yanmei studied the picture further. The sober expression started to look borderline depressed now. A genius and personable leader, and a Neospartan to boot. "I hope… that whatever happens next won't play out in an EVA battle."
[16:28] <Alexandre> "…" Alex… Puts a hand on Yanmei's shoulder awkwardly. "If it does, I think you'll hold your own."
[16:31] <Yanmei> "Heh. Thanks. But I guess we'll see." She started to close the album. "Thanks for the meal, and the conversation. And the pictures."
[16:34] <Alexandre> "No worries. You gave me a letter telling me I'm free~ I'm feeling well-disposed towards you." Said Alex. "But hey. One more thing?"
[16:35] <Yanmei> "Yeah?"
[16:35] * Alexandre took the album in his arms, carried it back to the bookshelf. "Actually, two things. How's your boy?"
[16:36] <Yanmei> "Better. He'll be staying with me for a little while, until he's completely back on his feet. And, he's not 'my boy' exactly."
[16:37] <Alexandre> "You knew who I was talking about. That makes me right. Anyway, tell him… I said hi, ok? I know I was a dick to him before, but…"
[16:40] <Yanmei> "I'll let him know. Maybe you two can talk or something before you go? Clear the air?"
[16:42] <Alexandre> "Maybe." Said Alex. "I'm… Well, I'm glad he's doing ok. You and he are obviously close, and it'd be bad if you went insane and destroyed the world because your boy died or something."
[16:43] <Yanmei> "Har, har. I'd like to think I had a bit more self control than -that-" Yanmei flipped her hair.
[16:46] <Alexandre> "Heh. Let's hope we don't find out." He started eating Yanmei's leftover curry. "And another thing. About Silas."
[16:48] <Yanmei> "Yes?" She was getting that look on her face again. A slightly worried, slightly melancholy look.
[16:51] <Alexandre> "Silas died before he could complete the Neospartan program." Said Alexandre. "He was a genius, and he was genetically enhanced, but he's in an unfamiliar, weaker body, and he's never piloted an Evangelion in his life. You have more experience than he does in the Plug."
[16:54] <Yanmei> "Is that so?" The thought had not occurred to her, and she blinked a little at it. "You're right. I'll keep that tip in mind."
[16:55] <Alexandre> "Good. I'll see you around, Yanmei. No doubt you'll want to soak up all the Alexandre Fontaine you can before I piss off to Algeria."
[16:58] <Yanmei> "Yeah, sure. Whatever you say." She rolled her eyes, and made for the door. Moron. But once she was outside of the apartment and could relax a little, she found that she was in a better mood than anticipated from the circumstances.
