For The Eve Of All The Blessed

[20:09] <Isaiah> [It's starting to become late- 6 PM! The moon sits overhead, silver and luminous, shining brightly over a city that has slowly started to return to life. A long period of relative peace has seen Paris-2's numbers start to swell again, and on this special night, people -especially children!- have taken to the streets to celebrate this most peculiar festival.-
[20:09] <Isaiah> [Outside of a NERV surface checkpoint, however, a rather different set of Children are assembled…]
[20:18] <Yanmei> One of them wears black leather - a rather form-fitting two-piece motorcycle riding outfit with a silver zipper pulled shut all the way to her neck. Her face is concealed by and unusually-shaped yellow and blue helmet, with the visor shut for now. While it's tinted, it is not reflective - quite the opposite, it gives the impression that one should be able to see the eyes of the rider wearing it.
[20:20] <Yanmei> -Through some trick or another, however, the only things visible are the inside of an empty helmet. -
[20:20] <Yanmei> [06:19] <Yanmei> Busily, she hammers out a text on a cell phone as she waits, leaning slightly against the locked wheelchair of her companion.
[20:24] <Sept> One of the children - a boy - was garbed in a long, dark brown coat concealing most of his body, an equally dark scarf flowing down the outside from around his neck. Atop his head sat, slightly crooked, a fedora only slightly off the colour theme of the rest of his clothing. Sera tugged at the coat with one hand in that usual manner that seemed to say over and over, "This is not a tracksuit
[20:24] <Sept> why is this not a tracksuit". In his other hand, he held a violin ca- no, this was much smaller. The surface was black and reflective, and it lacked the curves of a violin. It was, unmistakably, a case for a flute.
[20:25] <Aline> The final of the three children that truly were the Children arrived on foot, and stepped in with what, at /first/ glance, might seem to be a relatively plain outfit. A beigeish-pink miniskirt carefully aligned with white stockings that went right up her thighs made the first part of the outfit, with the lighter colors offset by the simple black shoes. Or, for that matter, the navy-blue
[20:25] <Aline> blazer (with red tie and white undershirt!) that draped ever so slightly over that skirt - which itself was adorned by a small golden crescent-moon lapel pin. Simple though the /clothes/ might be, Aline seemed to put more effort into the final details! Namely, the very delicate violet hint to her hair, that seemed almost /too/ subtle, the contacts to make her eyes appear red… and of
[20:25] <Aline> course, the big white (with pink inside) rabbit ears that went up for a bit before flopping down - and had little golden buttons at their bases. She smiled cheerfully, though~
[20:26] <Isaiah> Yanmei's companion is none other, of course, than one Isaiah Gabriel-Wei, who has perfected the art of lounging in his wheelchair. His fluffy hair has been combed to look a little messy; meanwhile, his costume consists of a classy bartender's: black trousers, black shiny shoes, with a white dress shirt, covered by a black vest and bowtie. Tinted sunglasses sit over his eyes, and a fake cigarette sits in his mouth.
[20:27] <Isaiah> [Meanwhile, at Sept's side was Freya, peering up at her dark-dyed hair, dressed nevertheless in an elegant black dress- -the- little black dress. It was an umistakeable replica of the Breakfast at Tiffany's dress- Audrey Hepburn's famous garment- and to her credit, she looked -quite- impressive in it, too.]
[20:35] <Sept> "So, uh. Ey, whuzza plan, copains. Boss pickin' us up or what."
[20:37] * Aline staaaaared at Sera. "Eh… So you're going to do that the whole way through?…" She seemed… confused. Baffled. Or maybe just amazed in a sorta awkward way.
[20:37] <Yanmei> "No idea?" Yanmei's voice is muffled, harder to make out than usual. She hasn't looked up from her phone. "And- what's a 'copain' supposed to be?"
[20:37] <Isaiah> [Freya seemed impressed… In a 'well, at least he's trying' way.]
[20:37] <Isaiah> "Someone who hurts when you hurt, clearly." Said Isaiah dryly.
[20:40] <Isaiah> [Yanmei's phone beeped!]
[20:40] * Sept just blushed and looked away, muttering something.
[20:41] <Yanmei> "Ah. The Major's sending a 'special guest' to pick us up."
[20:42] * Aline blinked at that, tilting her head this way and that. "Special guest?"
[20:42] <Isaiah> [Freya put a long, elegant sleeveless arm around Sept's shoulders. "This dolled up wiseguy here's packin' a typewriter, ain't that right?" She is going to enjoy tormenting Sept.]
[20:43] <Sept> "A… a typewriter? I uh why I don't think it'd fit I'd need a harmonica case" … "…see?"
[20:43] <Yanmei> "I bet it's just Marianne wearing a silly disguise," Yanmei muttered
[20:44] <Isaiah> [Freya frowned, and whispered in Sept's ear.]
[20:45] <Isaiah> [At that point… A long black limousine pulled up. It was shiny and glossy, and oh-so classy. One of the windows wound down.-
[20:46] <Isaiah> ["Oh, I like your outfits!" Cried… Sophie, dressed in an elegant summer-pattern Japanese kimono, her hair done up in a complex, but attractive pattern. "Hey, Aline! You have bunny ears too~?" … What did she mean by that?]
[20:48] * Aline blinked… but then nodded! "Ah! You have a pretty nice one yourself~"
[20:49] <Sept> "O-oh, they're thin on the streets nowadays. And o-out of fashion, nodda proper tool for the modern mobster, see?" Sera turned around, waving to the car. "Ah, sup, Soph, yer lookin' like a proper classy dame today."
[20:50] <Isaiah> [Any response from Sophie was obscured by her dissolving into helpless giggles.]
[20:52] * Isaiah smiled fondly. Ah, humour. He looked up at Yanmei. "You don't mind putting me in, right?"
[20:53] * Yanmei -finally- put her phone away. "Where are we heading, anyway? Any nice tips?" She eyes the limo, guessing it was classy. "Hm? Oh, no problem! Let's get going." She began wheeling the boy bartender towards their ride.
[20:54] * Isaiah leaned back and preened. This was fun~!
[20:54] * Sept turned back to Freya for a brief whisper, before silently advancing toward the car.
[20:54] <Isaiah> [Freya giggled, whispering back quickly before following.]
[20:55] * Aline climbed in relatively quickly, making sure she had a good, decent seat. Best to avoid the crush!
[20:57] <Isaiah> [… And Aline promptly found herself sitting next to someone who wasn't Sophie. Someone with pale grey hair, bright red eyes… He was wearing a long Chinese robe- a Taoist-esque one, with a high, tight collar and long sleeves. A dark pattern adorned it, and instead of the typical hat… A pair of grey bunny ears.-
[20:58] <Isaiah> ["Hello, Aline Blanc." Said Nagisa Kaworu blandly. Opposite him sat Atticus, looking larger-than-life in a pure white tuxedo- even down to the white bowtie. Atticus smirked.]
[20:59] * Aline slow-turned… and… stared. She smiled, though, and waved. "Hello, Kaworu Nagisa." She just as slowly turned back to face forwards.
[21:02] <Yanmei> It took some fumbling, supporting Isaiah from the outside and helping him in and then collapsing the wheelchair and sticking it in the trunk of the limo, but Yanmei soon joined them in the back. "Ah. Good evening you two!"
[21:03] <Isaiah> ["Hey there, Yanmei~!" Said Atticus cheerfully, offering her a wink.-
[21:03] <Isaiah> [Kaworu turned and stared at Yanmei.]
[21:03] * Sept climbed in as well. Tipping his fedora at the pair of schemers. "Yo. Youse two're on the family's turf now, best watch your step. Long way from home 'n' all."
[21:04] * Yanmei tried not to stare back, least she give away how creeped out she was. At least Kaworu couldn't tell what her expression was with the visor down…
[21:04] <Isaiah> [Sophie had -just- regained her composure before dissolving into giggles yet again.-
[21:04] <Isaiah> [Freya elegantly stepped into the limousine, sitting next to Sept.-
[21:05] <Isaiah> ["We'll keep it on the nose, guv'nor." Said Atticus in a thick English cockney.]
[21:05] <Isaiah> ["I hope you have been well." Murmured Kaworu, staring unendingly at Yanmei- right into her eyes, even if he couldn't see them.]
[21:07] * Aline nodded, unsure just /who/ he was talking to. She'd try to meet him at his own game. Or… something. "Ah. Quite, quite well indeed."
[21:08] <Yanmei> "Oh, of course," she said sweetly. She forced her body to relax as well as she could. "I'm a little surprised, though? I thought you two had already gone back to the UK?"
[21:10] <Isaiah> ["Oh, we had, but it's not like I have anything better to do right now, and France is close. Real close." Said Atticus.-
[21:11] <Isaiah> [The driver- a nondescript older man- peeked his head in through the screen. "Shall we depart, young mademoiselles and monsieurs?"]
[21:13] <Sept> "Sure, Vito, you handle the wheel."
[21:13] * Aline just nodded curtly in response~
[21:15] <Yanmei> "If you don't mind, sir," agreed Yanmei. Please let them get there quickly. She further tried to avoid eye contact (?) by glancing at Isaiah to see if he was comfortable
[21:15] * Isaiah was more than comfortable. He gave Yanmei a reassuring pat on the leg, resting his head on her shoulder for a moment.
[21:17] <Isaiah> [The car started to move.-
[21:17] <Isaiah> [All in all, it wasn't a very long drive- before long they arrived at their destination, which was a lush, large park surrounding a blue lake. The light of barbeques and torches could be seen.]
[21:22] * Aline found this to be an interesting call!… If only because for some reason she expected it to be indoors.
[21:22] <Yanmei> "So pretty!" Yanmei blinked at the distant lake and the torchlight reflected on it through the window a few times before remember the door and opening it, climbing out to retrieve Isaiah's wheelchair and to get him set up.
[21:24] <Isaiah> "Oh, outdoors!" Murmured Isaiah with interest- before letting Yanmei set him up.-
[21:26] <Isaiah> [Sophie and Freya quickly hopped out, as well.]
[21:27] * Sept also clambered out, getting his coat predictably stuck between the door on the way out. "Quite a, uh. Shindig? They've set up."
[21:29] * Aline sheepishly realized she was still staring at the outdoor area… before she slid out as well, standing up straight, and even taking a second to stretch~
[21:30] <Isaiah> [Atticus hopped out, stretching a little next to Aline. "What a time to be alive, eh?"-
[21:30] <Isaiah> [Kaworu, on the other hand, had paused to wrench Sept's coat out of the door, before taking up position behind him, almost touching, he was so close.]
[21:31] <Isaiah> ["Ariadne should be around here, somewhere." Mused Sophie. "With some other partygoers."]
[21:32] * Aline looked to Atticus almost cryptically. "I could say that about all moments spent happily alive, no?"
[21:32] <Isaiah> ["You could! And you should! Life should be celebrated!" Said Atticus. "Celebrated, because tomorrow, you could be dead." He stared down at Aline.]
[21:33] <Yanmei> "Is that so?" Yanmei grinned behind her helmet. "I wonder what she came dressed as… and who else is here as well." She started forward, pushing Isaiah, pausing slightly to regard the rest of the group, and then starting forward again.
[21:35] * Isaiah looked as happy as a clam living in the exclusive economic zone of a country allergic to seafood. "I can't wait to see~!"
[21:35] * Aline …paused, and then stared at Atticus a bit longer - though she did briefly smile. "Interesting choice of adage." But then she stared out into the distance, eyeing the torches. "Or perhaps because every day spent alive is a day that you remain… capable of things."
[21:36] <Isaiah> [… Two children would run past Yanmei's field of vision. Both girls, both wearing bulky outfits that resembled plugsuits- one wearing a white wig, the other a violet one. "I'm Zhang Yanmei!" Said one girl, mangling the pronounciation. "I'm pretty and hit 'em where it hurts!" "Well I'm Aline Blanc, and I make physics my bitch!" "-Gasp, Lucille, you said a naughty word~!"]
[21:36] <Sept> "And free~" Sera chimed in, dropping his accent for the moment.
[21:37] <Isaiah> ["I was only joking." Said Atticus with a wink. "And naturally, living means you're capable! You can't do shit if you're dead!" He spun around happily. "Cute ears, by the way."-
[21:37] <Isaiah> [Meanwhile, a placid voice in Sept's ear spoke. "Free of what…?"]
[21:41] * Aline nodded. "Right. And thanks, I was very careful with the accessories because the outfit's so simple. If I had known Kaworu was going to be here /and/ in a costume with those too, I might've picked something different." Aline even mock-pouted. "These contacts itch, for one, and for two, I feel weird because I accidentally imitated how he /normally/ looks, just because the red eyes
[21:41] * Aline are part of my costume. At least it wasn't the exact same character - that'd lead me to ask interesting questions."
[21:42] <Yanmei> "First dolls, and now kids costumes," Yanmei stared after them. "I wonder if they'd freak out upon actually spotting us here…"
[21:43] <Isaiah> ["I very nearly made him wear a dress. He looks good in a dress. Very pretty."]
[21:43] * Sept flinched as the voice spoke. He'd almost thought he'd shook the guy. "Jus' free. Y'know, like a moineau, see? Can't expect étrangers to understand."
[21:43] <Isaiah> "They'd at least ask your autograph." Said Isaiah with a grin. "Hey, is that Miss Delacour over there?"
[21:44] <Isaiah> ["But you are not a moineau. You are a human being living in human society."]
[21:45] * Yanmei turned to look, curiously!
[21:46] * Aline actually giggled at that. "Hilarious!… And good to see I'm not entirely alone with that." She whistled a bit.
[21:47] <Isaiah> [There was a woman in the distance… She certainly had Ariadne's fine figure. But she was wearing a male NERV major's uniform (with the jacket undone), and wearing the frizzy, kinky black hairdo and black shades that Yanmei normally associated with her… Commanding officer.]
[21:48] <Isaiah> [Atticus flourished his hand. "No. That you are not. But look! Guests!"]
[21:49] * Sept shrugged. "Life," he explained. "But as human beings, we get to choose how we live, don't we? A choice many animals don't have?"
[21:50] * Yanmei could not help but giggle, aloud even, as she approached. "Raiding the Major's wardrobe? I see you two are getting closer than I thought~"
[21:50] <Aline> "Ah! Lead on, then~" Aline even extended a hand graciously.
[21:51] <Isaiah> ["But as human beings, you inevitably have merely the choice between living by society's rules and society's norms, or living like an animal anyway. So much like those beasts you assume to be below you, you really have no choice but the choice dictated to you." Said Kaworu smoothly. At this point, Freya was frowning in irritation.-
[21:52] * Isaiah snickered slightly at Yanmei's remark.-
[21:52] <Isaiah> [Ariadne looked up at Yanmei with confusion. "…" Then she coloured suddenly. "Yanmei, is that you? You cheeky little monster?"]
[21:54] <Yanmei> "What a way to greet someone," she complained, lifting the trick visor with a wink. There were no Kaworus around, so somehow she felt safer doing it now. "Are you enjoying yourself?"
[21:54] <Isaiah> ["Then let's go!" Shouted Atticus, before he ran off.]
[21:55] * Aline gaped in surprise, but then followed along quickly, moving into a slight run!
[21:56] <Isaiah> ["I am. All sorts of fun guys are here." She said cheerfully, lifting up a glass of wine. "And it's good to see you up again, Isaiah. Meimei here was worried sick about you."-
[21:57] * Sept eyetwitch. "Not true. We can have both, or anything in between." Sera attempted to walk away from the conversation at a calm pace.
[21:57] <Isaiah> "Yeah…" Isaiah blushed a little in pleasure, looking up at Yanmei adoringly. "She's a cuddly-wuddly softie, really, no matter how tough she can look~"
[21:59] <Isaiah> ["You can have one or the otherr, or you can have a compromise, for they are mutually exclusive. The house cat is neither fully feral nor fully human, and is lesser than either world; similarly, the human being who tries to divorce himself from society, but downplay his animalistic traits, merely ends up curbing his instinctual strengths, whilst at the same time forgoing his intellectual ones."]
[22:01] <Isaiah> [Aline, on the other hand, by following Atticus, would end up emerging into a wide barbeque area, thick with the smell of deliciously cooking meats, bowls of fresh vegetables, and iceboxes full of cold drinks. She'd recognise a few familiar faces, too-
[22:02] <Yanmei> "I don't come off as -that- tough do I? Or… that soft?" She frowned a little, worried about her image, and then cleared her throat. "In any case, we should try to grab something that's not hospital or cafeteria food for a change! Sound good?"
[22:03] <Isaiah> [Such as Patrice Gosselin (dressed as a NERV officer), Lillian (dressed as Elizabeth the First) and Eva (who was dressed in an impeccable military officer's uniform). The first two were chatting endlessly, but the third looked listless and depressed.]
[22:05] <Isaiah> "It doesn't matter either way." Said Isaiah lovingly.-
[22:05] <Sept> "That's one reason why we have the Evangelion Project. It lets us be better at both."
[22:05] * Aline smiled and waved at Patrice and Lillian… but almost instantly beelined to Eva, leaning in front of the girl suddenly in a way that suggested she just /popped up/ there. "Hi there!"
[22:06] <Isaiah> ["Hehehe." Ariadne giggled, putting an arm around Yanmei's shoulders. "Food would be good. But you're in luck for other reasons, too~"]
[22:07] <Isaiah> ["But with the Evangelion Project, you attempt to transcend humanity in an incomplete fashion. All you gain is a half-life, stuck between the humanity you can never regain and the apeotheosis you can never achieve." Said Kaworu coolly.-
[22:07] <Isaiah> ["… Sept, let's go." Muttered Freya, grabbing the wiseguy-for-a-day's arm.]
[22:09] <Sept> "But-" Sept cast one last menacing glance at Kaworu, and followed his Fair Lady.
[22:10] <Yanmei> "Hm?" She didn't pull away from the casual gesture, instead peering up at her. "Why is that?"
[22:11] <Isaiah> ["Alexandre is around here somewhere." Said Ariadne cheerfully. "So that sexy little outfit of yours won't be going to waste…~"-
[22:12] * Isaiah frowned, his eyes narrowing.
[22:13] <Yanmei> "Guh. What a gross thing to imply," Yanmei complained. "Maybe you've had a little too much wine already~?"
[22:14] <Isaiah> [Sept, of course, would be led away from the harrowing Japanese secretary, escorted by Freya, who was trying to loosen up her deep frown… When he'd spot something.-
[22:14] <Isaiah> [In the far distance, near a barbeque, a figure robed in black, with a dark hood- out of which peered the face of EVA-01. It was staring at him.]
[22:15] <Isaiah> ["O-Oh. Aline." Eva started for a moment, staring at her. "H-Hi."]
[22:16] * Sept froze. A person-sized One… "F-Freya?" He indicated the figure to her, foregoing any and all subtlety.
[22:17] * Aline stared into Eva's eyes, smiling softly. "Yeah, hi. Take it maybe the party isn't /quite/ enough, huh?" Her tone was no longer super-bouncy-cheery, but more level and gentle.
[22:18] <Isaiah> ["No such thing." Said Ariadne. "What about you, Isaiah? Don't you think Yanmei's outfit seductive and alluring~?"-
[22:18] * Isaiah was resolutely staring off into the distance and meeting neither of their gazes.
[22:19] <Isaiah> [Freya frowned, looking at Sept. "Huh? Where? The guy with the sausage?"]
[22:20] <Isaiah> ["Um…" Eva scratched the back of her head. "Sorry. I wasn't trying to be glum, I just had a lot on my mind."]
[22:21] <Yanmei> "Ariadne…" there was a faint hint of warning there. Her glance at Isaiah was a slightly worried one.
[22:22] <Sept> "No, O-" Sept stopped for a moment. Was he imagining it? He blinked. "One, h-he's, don't let him…" The boy shook his head and held his forehead with his free hand.
[22:22] * Aline continued to smile, and patted the girl on a shoulder. "I can tell! I'm not trying to say you're breaking the mood or something. In fact, maybe after the party or sometime I can try to help you with whatever's on your mind, right?" Aline was… blissfully unaware (At this exact second) of the weird things her comrades were going through…
[22:24] <Isaiah> [Ariadne paused for a minute, as if wondering if she'd done something wrong. "… Er, so! Did you like my costume?" Asked Ariadne, twirling.-
[22:27] * Isaiah looked back hesitatingly over at Ariadne, trying to control his deeply red face. "It's… It's pretty good."
[22:27] <Isaiah> ["S-Sept? Are you ok?"-
[22:27] <Isaiah> [The figure had started to head towards Sept- at a jog.]
[22:28] <Isaiah> ["O-Oh." Eva seemed a little conflicted. "Maybe that'd be a little helpful… Sorry. Are you ok?"]
[22:29] <Yanmei> "It is! The wig must have been pretty hard to find, though? Everything else… well, you -are- apart of NERV."
[22:32] <Isaiah> ["That's right." Said Ariadne. "What about you? Where'd you get that from?"]
[22:34] * Aline tilted her head left, then right. The bunny-ears flip-flopped either way when she did that. "Ah? I'm okay. Mostly. There's been stuff going on, some of it big, but… Such is life, you know?"
[22:34] <Sept> "No… no no no" Sera began to fiddle with the case, managing it open with no little difficulty. Though once he did, both knives contained within clattered uselessly to the ground as Sera seemed to have been frightened by their very existence. "No, that's not right. I can't stab him I s-shouldn't but he-he'll make me he'll hurt me again" He shoved Freya away to make sure he escaped her
[22:34] <Sept> grip, stumbling backwards and falling to the ground.
[22:35] <Isaiah> ["Ah." Eva nodded awkwardly. "Erm, would you like some food?"]
[22:35] <Isaiah> ["S-Sept?! Sept, what's the matter?"-
[22:36] <Isaiah> [The figure had started to run as Sept stumbled, and before long was looming over Sept. It reached up and removed its mask…-
[22:36] <Yanmei> "I was looking for an outfit like this anyway." Yanmei performed her own twirl. "Because of my beautiful new ride. It's only natural. The only hard part was the helmet. The visor works the way it does because of some sort of mirror trick." She lowered it again to demonstrate.-
[22:36] <Isaiah> ["… Hey, you alright?" Asked Alexandre, frowning concernedly. "Freya, what happened?" "I-I don't know, he just started flipping out…"]
[22:37] * Aline nodded back, almost in sync. "Yeah, sure. We can eat together, right?~"
[22:37] <Yanmei> "Isaiah's here was something I found and rented, though. Short notice?"
[22:38] <Isaiah> "It fits well, too." Said Isaiah happily.-
[22:38] <Isaiah> ["Oho. I see! And your new ride- your moped?"]
[22:40] <Yanmei> "That's right!" she said proudly. "Have you seen it before? I'm taking totally good care of it."
[22:40] <Isaiah> ["It's… Cute." Said Ariadne.]
[22:43] * Sept proceeded to just whimper vaguely as the figure approached. It took him quite a while to return to reality and figure out who it was that was standing over him. The whining died down, and Sera looked utterly confused. "No, but you're not… you're his son. His only son. But it still shouldn't…" He looked up at Freya. "Wh-what's going on..?" And back at Alexandre. "I-it's a costume."
[22:43] * Sept He stated, finally.
[22:43] <Yanmei> "I know, right?" She flipped the visor up again. "Isaiah~ When you get better we'll go for a ride on it. Top speed!"
[22:44] <Isaiah> [Eva led Aline over to a nearby barbeque table, where dozens upon dozens of sausages were piled up in trays, next to potato salad and bread, as well as sauces of all sorts. "Help yourself."]
[22:45] <Isaiah> "Ah-!" Isaiah blinked, in surprise, them smiled. "That sounds fantastic. I'll hold you to your promise.
[22:45] <Isaiah> "
[22:45] * Aline started to gather up a fair amount of sausage and bread and so on - making sure to get a few samples of particularly good sauces… But she did turn to Eva. "Don't hold off on the food on account of me, okay?"
[22:47] <Isaiah> [Eva did not need encouragement. She had seven sausages on her plate (which was already half-filled with potato salad) and an appropriate number of slices of bread.]
[22:48] <Isaiah> ["Hey, you alright?" Alexandre offered Sept a hand. "Sorry. I didn't weird you out, did I? I was just going for a scary look… I didn't think it was -that- bad."]
[22:49] * Yanmei spun around suddenly, hearing something!
[22:49] <Isaiah> [And was staring straight into the eyes of Kaworu Nagisa. His expression was sombre.-
[22:49] <Isaiah> ["… H-How- I didn't even see you. Where-?!" Muttered Ariadne in shock.]
[22:50] * Aline was happy about that, at least, and began digging in~ She had saved room explicitly for it! "Ahh. The food's good, the mood's nice… This is a pretty good night, even if it might get ruined sooner or later." But she did wink to Eva. "Just saying that so I don't jinx things."
[22:52] <Sept> For a fleeting moment, the hand was examined, scrutinised. Sera took it and helped himself up, making an attempt to sweep his weaponry from the ground before anyone noticed. "O-oh, it's nothing, I was just surprised it was… you wearing that. Uh, it's a good costume."
[22:52] <Isaiah> [Freya shook her head.-
[22:53] <Yanmei> "…!" She couldn't hide any panicked faces under her visor anymore. So she had to make with a polite, albeit slightly surprised expression instead. "M-Mr. Nagisa. Ah. You've met Ariadne Delacour, haven't you? Ariadne, this is the assistant to Captain Nelson, potential pilot and longtime NERV employee. And…" she trailed off a little, trying not to stare directly at him.
[22:53] <Isaiah> ["Oh, thanks. Is that what I think it is?" He asked, peering at Sept's costume.]
[22:54] <Isaiah> ["With what? A terrorist attack?" Murmured Eva.]
[22:55] <Isaiah> [Ariadne and Kaworu looked at each other for a moment. "A pleasure, Miss Delacour." "Mr… Nagisa, was it?" "Nagisa Kaworu."-
[22:55] <Isaiah> [He turned to look at Isaiah for a moment, a faint, predatory smile crossing his face for the briefest of moments, before he turned back to Yanmei. "I wish for a word in private."]
[22:57] * Aline looked at Eva, but frowned. "I don't /think/ so. But like bad news, or an Angel being detected…" She sighed. "It can be hard to relax. Last big party I went to was on the same night that Berlin-2 was destroyed. But… I can at least hope things will be alright! If nothing else, I should just try to be happy with what I have, and just ready, rather than sad, about what might be."
[22:59] <Isaiah> ["That's a good strategy." Said Eva listlessly. "I'm glad you're remaining positive."]
[22:59] <Sept> "O-Old Paris mafia… uniform, if that was your guess…" Sept clicked the flute case shut once more, its cargo concealed, and brushed some of the dirt off his coat.
[23:00] <Isaiah> ["Yesss. Give us some slang!"]
[23:00] <Yanmei> "I see…" She didn't want to go with him. She didn't want to leave Isaiah either, after that. Still, she bobbed her head to her companions. "I won't be long. Hang tight, okay?" She glanced from Ariadne to Isaiah, and then back again meaningfully. Hopefully she would look out for and take care of him?
[23:00] <Isaiah> "Alright. See you soon, Yanyan." Said Isaiah softly.-
[23:00] <Isaiah> [Ariadne seemed to get the hint.-
[23:01] <Isaiah> [Nagisa gestured toward an isolated clump of trees, near the lake. He was still staring right at her eyes.]
[23:02] * Aline …slid over and squeezed one of Eva's shoulders. "It must sound like empty words, no?"
[23:02] <Yanmei> When he said 'private,' he'd meant it, apparently. Smiling one last time, she turned to go, and ignoring the chill going own her spine, made for those trees.
[23:03] <Isaiah> [Eva seemed… Surprisingly frail at that touch. She looked over at Aline. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything by it."]
[23:06] <Sept> "A-alright, but maybe we oughta track down some of our amicis, or the rest of this night'll be as perdu as a, uh, Lambert thug on this side of the Seine..?"
[23:06] <Isaiah> [The clump of trees was… A disturbingly good place for a private chat. The place seemed eerily silent and insulated from the outside world.-
[23:06] <Isaiah> [Kaworu turned to stare at Yanmei with that deep stare of his. "You are an incredibly selfish and rapacious person, Zhang Yanmei." He said placidly.]
[23:06] * Aline shook her head. "I wasn't being insulted. I was trying to see if that was what you really felt. You /know/ I've mentioned my depression at club before, even if you'd have heard it somewhere else, right?"
[23:09] <Yanmei> "I… beg your pardon?" She was more taken aback than anything. Too startled to even manifest anger immediately. "What do you mean?"
[23:10] <Isaiah> ["Fantastic. Come on. Let's you and your classy dame go and grab some food!" Said Alexandre cheerfully, putting an arm around them both. "A-Ah-!"]
[23:11] <Isaiah> ["You have." Murmured Eva. "It's… Well. I am very depressed. But I am also a little unsure."]
[23:12] * Aline delicately engaged in discussion about feelings whilst scarfing down a sausage. She was polite enough to intersperse things, though. "Unsure?… Wow, that's certainly familiar to me, too." She looked up into the sky for a second… but then returned her gaze to Eva. "Though very likely not about the same things."
[23:13] <Sept> "R-right. Good plan, boss." Sept followed, slowly regaining his inner composure.
[23:15] <Isaiah> ["To have the love of so many, and yet thirst for more and more. Are you never tired of that?" Asked Kaworu. He was, as last time, a mere foot away from Yanmei, his red eyes boring into her dark ones.]
[23:15] <Isaiah> ["I suspect not." Said Eva, cracking a faint smile. "I… Received a letter."]
[23:17] <Isaiah> [Alexandre led his new companions closer to a barbeque- where a crowd consisting of some of Sept's schoolfriends(?), such as Edgar (Wolverine), Elena Clement (Athena) and Malachi (Wearing a brown coat with a furry edge) were being regaled with tales from Atticus.]
[23:19] * Aline stared, slightly. "A letter…?"
[23:20] <Yanmei> "…" This was definitely some type of challenge. Her own eyes hardened, and she tried with difficulty to push away the flight in the fight or flight tug-of-war that was raging within her. "I believe you're mistaken, Mr Nagisa. What more could I possibly thirst for?"
[23:23] <Isaiah> ["From my uncle." Murmured Eva. "He wants me to live with him."]
[23:23] <Isaiah> [Kaworu's gaze never, -ever- faltered. "You kissed him."]
[23:25] * Aline shook her head. "…Well, do you /like/ your uncle?" She did have a bit of a thoughtful tone, like she was forming an idea.
[23:26] <Isaiah> ["He lives in Boston." Said Eva. "The only time I ever met him, he was very kind, but it was only one time." She seemed downcast. "It sounds good, but… All of my memories are here."]
[23:26] <Yanmei> He -saw-?! Chagrin flashed across her face, hot and pink. "He kissed -me-," she corrected. But who would believe that? Just what did he want, anyway? Why did he care?
[23:27] * Aline …paused at that. "…Memories… Hmm." But then… "So you want to have someone to live with, but you're afraid of leaving Paris-2 in order to get that?"
[23:28] <Sept> "Evenin', padres. Room for three lonesome travelers?" Very faintly, Sept felt there was something not quite right, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
[23:29] <Isaiah> ["It does not matter whether he kissed you or vice versa. You must claim the blame purely for being a participant." Said Kaworu coldly. "And that is just like your kind."]
[23:32] <Isaiah> ["Well…" Eva looked down at her feet. "I… Don't really care about Paris-2. But in some form, I feel as though… Mama is here, forever…"]
[23:34] <Isaiah> ["Ah. The wanderer returns." Said Atticus, gesturing at Sept. "Tell us a story, brother."]
[23:34] <Yanmei> "'My kind.'" Yanmei echoed. She straightened up further. She would not be afraid. She would not be afraid. "What is it with you, anyway? What is that supposed to mean? And for that matter, why do you seem to care so much?"
[23:35] * Aline drooped at that. Sad thing, death is… "Ah… I… I'm sorta torn then, myself. Because uh…" She knitted her hands together. "…My apartment has 3 bedrooms, and 2 occupants…"
[23:36] <Isaiah> ["Because it is a simple transference of resources." Said Kaworu. "You take and you take without ever seeking to stop, and naturally some of those resources will belong to others. In this case, you are taking something from me."]
[23:37] <Isaiah> [Eva turned to look at Aline, her eyes widening slightly…]
[23:40] <Sept> "Ah…" Sera joined the group with a mysterious grin. "Have you heard of…" Pause for effect. "The events of the Fourth of January?" Eyeglass glint. Wait, he didn't have any. Oh well.
[23:41] <Isaiah> ["The events of the Fourth of January?" Asked Elena Clement, frowning. "The fire in Marseilles?"]
[23:43] <Aline> "Er… yeah. I'm just torn because I think you're worried about doing the right thing uh symbolically I guess and uh…" Aline started to shake a little bit, possibly from tension. "I thought of the offer after I saw how bad you looked during that first day back from school but then they attacked and then I did those things and you looked disgusted and I put the idea away because I thought
[23:43] <Aline> you wouldn't want to room with an inhuman monster and and and…" She had to take rhythmic breaths to try to calm back down! "S-s-s-sorry."
[23:44] <Isaiah> [Eva stared down at her feet. "You were so savage." Tears were gathering in her eyes.]
[23:44] <Sept> "What, no. It was rhetorical. A setup. Anyway…" Pause for renewed effect. "It was a dark and stormy night. The air flowed thick with plots and schemes…"
[23:44] <Yanmei> "You say it so calmly and rationally, but your heart's really in this little confrontation, isn't it?" She opened and clenched her hands. "If you want an apology, just say so? I've nothing to gain from fighting with you?"
[23:47] <Isaiah> ["An apology, Zhang Yanmei? Why?" He asked coldly. "The only true apologies in this world of yours stem from knowing how the other feels. An apology from you now would be an empty thing, a token." His eyes intensified. "You have violated me deeply. And if I seek an apology from you, then you, too, must be violated, just as I have been."]
[23:48] <Isaiah> ["That's not how it goes." Said Elena with a pout.]
[23:50] * Aline nodded, looking pretty upset - the breathing exercises were for things /other/ than emotional pain, Aline! "I… I know, I… I don't have the sort of training that someone should to be able to deal with it. And I felt so weak and small and powerless, even with that gun. And and they either hated us or were told to kill us or or just… It isn't the same as Angels. They're sad
[23:50] * Aline flailing animals that don't even recognize us even when we try to connect on comm-" Aline stopped herself cold at that, looking really… not just embarassed, but like she was committing a grave betrayal against herself. "Er… no, I mean… those people knew full well why they were there. I must have… I… I'm sorry, I lost control. Funny… the berserk one in the First Child-00 pair
[23:50] * Aline isn't the Evangelion, it's the pilot. Funny, haha, funny." Nobody, absolutely /nobody/, would miss the intentionally-forced nature of that laughter.
[23:53] * Yanmei was suddenly -acutely- aware of their isolated surroundings. And of the look he had thrown at Isaiah earlier. A threat like that was so vague, however, that she didn't know which direction to take it. Only that the flight instinct was now winning out over the fight instinct yet again. "What are you trying to do, anyway?" She took a backward step. "Did you bring me out here to threaten me?"
[23:55] <Isaiah> [Eva stared at Aline, a mix of heady emotions swirling through her mind and body. "… This… Has hurt you, hasn't it? What you did…"]
[23:57] <Isaiah> [Despite Yanmei's step back, she'd realise she was still, once again, the same distance away from him. "Threaten you? No. A threat implies announcing the chance of causing harm on you in the attempt to receive a reparation for nulling that chance. What I am presenting you is a promise. I will definitely hurt you." Said Kaworu coldly- and he leaned forward, and whispered something very swiftly in Yanmei's ear.]
[23:58] * Sept disregarded the owl lady's objections and went on with the story. "…and that's when they began to realise. The man behind the door. Was Dorian Lachapelle! The men were banished to The Seminary, never to be heard of again." Sept half-consciously glanced behind him, making sure the perimeter was indeed officer-free. "And that's the story of the Fourth of January."
[23:59] <Aline> "Yes… It's… part of a lot of those things. Those things I'm uncertain about." Aline looked… scared and sad but also just worn out. "But… I have to wonder who the hell I'm supposed to be. And that's just the stuff anyone else could understand - or should."
[00:02] <Isaiah> ["…" Elena scratched the back of her neck. "But that doesn't make sense, Sera." She said. "How did he know they were coming? You never explained that. Or is her permanently waiting for ex-taxmen to break in and steal random trinkets from him? All of those things except his medals could be replaced easily." She said patiently. "Besides, sent to the Seminary? A Seminary is where you become a priest, they'd be out into the community almost immediately in some form, and permanently before long."]
[00:04] <Isaiah> [Eva stared at Aline for a little while longer… Before she reached out and patted her hand. "It's ok to be uncertain. But… Even though you did those things… Well, I still think you're a good person… Since you're so tortured now."]
[00:07] <Yanmei> She wasn't afraid. She wasn't afraid. Shewasn'tafriad, shewasn'tafriad… "That… saddens me," she said stiffly, and swallowed. "If it was just me, I might be less inclined to fight? But… I -will- stop you." A little flame of anger was sparking and rising from somewhere. She grabbed desperately to it, fanned it. Her eyes hardened once more.-
[00:08] * Sept stared at Elena blankly, holding his flute case menacingly. As much so as was possible with one. "Madamoiselle's more questions than what's good for her."
[00:09] <Isaiah> [Elena folded her arms. "Then that's your fault for telling a weak story." She said primly. Her owl swayed back and forth.]
[00:11] * Aline stared up, weakly. "Yeah… Thanks, Eva. I was actually worried about that, because… after I made a fool out of myself yelling at you about how scary my 'job' was, to turn around and be more terrifying than what you were actually ready for all along… Nnn. Made me feel stupid. Stupid and terrible." She sighed heavily. "At least I can be inhuman in a way that isn't terrifying,
[00:11] * Aline eh?" For a sentence like that, it seemed oddly light.
[00:12] <Isaiah> ["Please don't say such things." Said Eva, her tone upset. She wolfed down a sausage. "But… You shouldn't have to worry. Really. You're too kind to go asking me if I want a place to-" She started to sniffle, her tears pouring down her face.]
[00:13] <Yanmei> "He's a person, not some object to be won or lost or used. Even if it kills me, I'll protect him from you and anyone else who thinks otherwise!"
[00:17] <Isaiah> ["Such pretty words." Said Kaworu, shrugging his shoulders delicately. "Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to stop me. You have handed me all I need to make him mine, so much so that you might as well have handed me the keys to his heart directly." A wide, wiiiiide smile. "Thank you, Zhang Yanmei. This has been a most enlightening talk." He turned and started to walk away, out of the grove of trees- his direction? Back towards Isaiah and Ariadne.]
[00:17] <Sept> "Says the lady with the owl! Why don't you tell us one about yourself?" Sept frowned at the girl in a not-at-all serious way. "I'm sure you've a better one ready, with all your -learning- and your -knowledge-."
[00:18] * Aline frowned. "Sorry, I'll…" …She then moved closer, and went in for a hug.
[00:24] * Yanmei lingered there a while longer. When she was positive that he was gone from sight, she allowed her shoulders to sag and tremble. He wasn't going to be persuaded. He couldn't be blocked by rules or regulations. He was right. What was she supposed to do to stop him? Why did she always end up biting off more than she could chew?
[00:25] <Isaiah> [Elena stood up, pointing at Sept's forehead. "Have you ever heard of the story of the woman who was afraid of toast?!"]
[00:25] <Isaiah> [Eva broke down, sobbing as Aline hugged her. "I-I want mama…"]
[00:26] * Sept was taken aback by the contrast between message and delivery. "N-no? Why would anyone fear toast..?"
[00:27] <Isaiah> ["Because do you know what you use to butter toast?!"]
[00:27] <Sept> "A… knife?" Sera's voice was slightly weaker, now.
[00:29] <Isaiah> ["A knife!" Said Elena dramatically. "And do you know what else you can use a knife for?!"]
[00:29] * Aline hugged her tight. "I know… I know… So many of us… So many of us do, I know…" And she held on /tight/.
[00:29] * Yanmei …finally pulled herself together after a few minutes had passed, and wiped her face, closing the visor again just afterward. She couldn't stay out here forever, and… it was better to go and check on them anyway, even if it hurt to do it. Slowly, she headed back toward the party.
[00:29] <Isaiah> ["M-Mama… Mama…" Eva sobbed… She sobbed for a long, long time. A sob that she'd been keeping for even longer.]
[00:30] * Isaiah was holding a drink in his hand, sipping it halfheartedly. Even from a distance Yanmei could tell he was tired.
[00:31] <Sept> "…stabbing?" The grip on the case was now more for comfort than menace.
[00:31] * Yanmei watched him from a distance. Just watched. Then, she made herself approach, quietly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to take so long."
[00:32] * Isaiah looked up, smiling. "It's alright, Yanyan." He said with a smile. "Did it go alright?"
[00:32] <Isaiah> ["For cutting bread!" Said Elena. "And do you know who eats bread?!"]
[00:33] <Sept> "…I don't know anymore, who."
[00:35] <Yanmei> "I…" Yanmei looked down at the grass. "I don't know how to answer that. I need to think. And you probably need to rest, right? Want to find someplace quiet for a while?"
[00:36] <Isaiah> ["Human beings!" Said Elena.]
[00:36] <Isaiah> "…" Isaiah's face slowly became more concerned. It had to be bad if she was at that point. "Alright. That sounds good to me."
[00:36] * Aline held on, and… took a deep breath. A very deep breath… and pulled Eva closer, almost as if… okay, blatantly as if she were taking on a motherly aspect herself. "Shh… shh… I'll take care of you for now…"
[00:38] * Sept looked around at everyone else's faces. Was he the only one hearing this? He returned his attention to Elena, more bewildered by the second.
[00:38] <Isaiah> [Freya was staring gobsmacked at this.-
[00:38] <Isaiah> [But Malachi was nodding. "Oh, I get it. It's a metaphor for the cycle of violence inherent within the system."]
[00:40] <Yanmei> "Right! Let's go, then." She went behind his chair and started to push. He knew that she cared about him, didn't he? Surely he had to…
[00:43] <Isaiah> And so he went with her, smiling, sleepy, and uncomplaining.
[00:44] * Sept stared on. "That makes -no sense-", he managed to utter. It sounded like he was out of breath.
[00:45] <Isaiah> ["I'll explain it to you some other time, but I assure you that it is consistent with its own internal logic."]
[00:50] <Sept> "A-alright." Sept is defeated.
