For The Hope Of Fun

[19:27] * Aline had chosen this day, a day on vacation much like many others before it, at the resort, to try to check up on project success threshholds. While she talked a little with him, Sera continued to be an -enigma- at times! …So she figured now was as good a time as any to try a bit of prodding! So, the girl milled about, until, using the power of /logic/? Aline found him, high on the
[19:27] * Aline roof of one of the larger buildings of the resort. Sure, it was cold, but it was also a roof. Probably familiar ground or something. "…Ah, found you~"
[19:31] * Sept turned to face the newcomer. "Hello, Aline." …and immediately returned to staring at the scenery. "…that's a lot of snow."
[19:33] * Aline walked over to be beside him, and leeeaned over the rails, a little dangly fuzzball from her knit cap briefly straying in front of her face. "Mmm-hm. So, what have you been up to, lately? I saw Yan-yan going out with the skis earlier, say."
[19:37] <Sept> "Today, I've been here. And outside. Played the flute. Walked around…" Sera hung his head. "I'm no good at this vacation stuff, am I."
[19:42] * Aline shrugged her shoulders a bit, and leaned even further over the rail, staring out into the snow. "Well. You probably don't think of it like how Yanmei does. You know how she is, all about being classy and liking the really pretty restaurants and the high-society things…" Aline did eventually turn to Sera. "But… what do you want to do? Like, just… any fun, not-serious thing you
[19:42] * Aline want to do that you don't have time to at home." She suddenly remembered all his parkour shenanigans. "…Or that you do at home, but might change here. Like climbing and exploring things and jumping across roofs or whatever it is all that cityrunning entails?"
[19:47] <Sept> "Y-yeah, I guess it'd be a whole lot different here. But." He hesitated, fiddling with his hands. "I don't really know this place. It's… strange, and there's always wind, and. It's just a bit… scary."
[19:53] * Aline smiled, standing up off of the rail, and sweeping her hand across the vista. "Well… Look at it. It's pretty because it's so -empty-. Most all of the differences in terrain once you leave the resort are either the forests, or the rising peaks of the mountains. It's a world that moves slower that in the city." She grinned towards Sera, allowing herself to wax psychoanalytic. Or
[19:53] * Aline mystical. "Can you feel how it lives? It's a steady existence… Snow slows down your steps, and a mountain can't be vaulted over, you have to choose your handholds wisely and find the path. I guess, though…" She closed her eyes and shrugged, the little fuzzball flitting around. "…Maybe you're afraid of the unknown?"
[20:00] <Sept> "Hmmmm. Yeah, you're right. But isn't everyone afraid of dark alleys? They're afraid of them because they can't be sure the rules they know still apply… All of this-" Sera swept his hand across the vista in a much more modest fashion. "-could just be one big dark alley, for all I know." A pause, and he blushed. "I'm sorry, did that make sense..?"
[20:10] * Aline went ahead and patted Sera on the shoulder. "Oh, it did, but I believe this isn't a dark alley. It's more…" She struggled to find the right analogy. "It's more like a city on the other side of the world. You don't know the rules, but at the same time… there's some things that look a little familiar. And it doesn't take long to learn the new rules!" But then, Aline grinned more.
[20:10] * Aline "Of course, someone like me can guess the rules before she even has to try to follow them~ And I can help you with that knowledge~"
[20:14] * Sept looked up at Aline hopefully. "Oh? Could you? I'd really like to help make this a fun time with everyone, so I'd be really grateful if you could teach me!"
[20:18] <Aline> "Yup! That was why I even mentioned it! We need to get you up and finding these things out yourself, rather than just hiding and running away, right?" But… she did have a slight note of sternness. "But you have to try to get so you don't need my help, alright?"
[20:19] * Sept weighed the conditions for a moment, and nodded. "I'll try my best! Thank you, Aline."
[20:21] * Aline nodded again! "So! What lesson do you want to start with first? 'finding things to do', 'outdoor sports', or 'special alpine exploration training'?" …Oh dear. Aline turned on catlike-grin-mode. She normally doesn't do that. I don't think she's ever done that before.
[20:26] <Sept> "..? Ah. I. Maybe the first one..? I guess that's important for a lot of people?"
[20:30] * Aline nodded. "Right, I thought so! Now, this is going to take some thought." …She leaned over the railing again. "Well, you play the flute. You jump across buildings. And you walk around. What else do you do at home, that you have fun doing?" …Aline decided to add a rider to that, because she didn't quite trust him to be actually enthusiastic about entertaining himself. "Or, uh,
[20:30] * Aline aren't terribly bored or numb about?"
[20:38] <Sept> "There's always something interesting to watch in Paris… and I used to run packages, small stuff, for people, to survive, but I would've been moving around town anyway so I guess it's the same…"-
[20:40] <Sept> "Ah! Freya used to take me to this open-air theater! They haven't had any shows ever since the first Angel came, though… I hope they're alright. But, I really enjoyed them!"
[20:48] * Aline pondered all that Sera had told her… then knitted her hands in front of her grin, giving her a sort of blend between an 'all according to plan' and 'girlish tucked-hands' gesture to display to him. "Oho. For someone who seems so quiet, you sure like watching people and seeing them do interesting things! I'm not sure if there's a performing theater here, but… you could try maybe
[20:48] * Aline hanging out around some of the busier slopes. People are always moving around, talking to each other, going off to ski down that slope… and you get to watch them do that too! Maybe you could even talk to one of them, or bring your girl~friend~ along and talk with her about what you see them doing! What do you say, huh?"
[20:50] <Sept> "Yeah… I guess that'd be fun. I mean, wait, what was that about. Is this about Freya again?" He seemed a bit annoyed this time.
[20:54] * Aline giggled, then turned around so that her -back- was leaning on the rail. "No, no, Viviane. Look, it's easy. Tsubaki's your little sister, Ginevre is your mom, Freya's like an aunt or much older sister or cousin or something, Elisha's your dad, and /Viviane/ is your girlfriend. There! That's your adoptive family flowchart, Sera!" …She was, despite the seeming word choice, saying
[20:54] * Aline this with such a tone of amusement in her voice.
[21:03] * Sept took a moment sorting all of this information out. "Oh… I guess. That makes sense? In a way. Huh." … "Anyway, what were we talking about again oh right. What did you mean by outdoor sports? I mean, besides just being able to ski and whatnot..?"
[21:09] <Aline> "Ahhh, well…" Aline briefly considered leaning back to stretch, but a sudden reminder of gravity dissuaded her. Man, fuck gravity. "You normally stay in the city, or really you just stay in the city all the time. There's not a lot of room or empty nature to do a lot of outdoorsy things…" She raised a hand to start counting things off. "You could build things in the snow, go hiking…
[21:09] <Aline> serious mountain-climbing needs tools and a lot of skill and agility… in sorta not snowy forever climites like outside of Paris-2 you could walk on trails or maybe go on a boatride down the Seine-2 or something. And when we get to the Riviera you'll probably have a lot of swimming and games like volleyball and that sort of thing to do! Thaaaat's what I mean by outdoor sports."
[21:17] <Sept> "Aah. Yeah, I understand." (…knew I should've packed the harnesses stupid idiot…) "You need more than a few people for some of that stuff, so I guess this is a chance to try them. Do you usually do a lot of this stuff, Aline? You seem to know a lot about it."
[21:24] * Aline slowly tilted her head… "Ah, actually I don't do -tons- of it. Did do some of the swimming and volleyball stuff, and I think there was that one camping trip to the Black Forest… But I know things. I just do!" She… okay. Careful. Don't sound egotistical. "I don't want to be rude, but I always check out new things and remember what I've heard and that kind of thing, so… Yeah!
[21:24] * Aline I know a lot of stuff, even if it isn't thinks I do myself. It's useful, since even if I don't do mountain climbing, I was able to tell you all about it, right?" Aline shifted her body a bit sideways, and smiled~~
[21:33] <Sept> "Yeah. I'm glad I got to know you, Aline. Maybe we should try some of that out together..? I mean, I know I promised to try and get by without you, but. Maybe it'd be fun?"
[21:36] * Aline wagged her finger. "That was a long-term goal! I mean that you -could- do this sorta thing yourself. You know, decide what you want to do. Because what you do want to do could involve all sorts of people! Even me~"
[21:53] * Sept nodded. "Right. Yeah, I think I get it. So it's important to find new things for yourself and… then share them with others?" Sera nodded again, this time to himself, considering the lesson. "Alright. So… what about uh. "Special alpine exploration". Is that something else you've just… happened to hear about?"
[21:55] * Aline giggled. "That's actually just sorta taking the whole hiking thing, mixing it with what I can guess about how you move around the city… and then probably heading out on a trail while I talk about how you move around in this kind of area, and what interesting things there are to see!" She stood up off the rails, -now- having her chance to stretch. "A lot about walking around in a
[21:55] * Aline -natural- setting like this is more what the place is like, than what the people there are like. Though hey, there -are- wild animals so it's not totally lonely."
[22:05] <Sept> "Ah… I see. So just, exploring the for-forests and other 'natural' stuff. There are animals in the city, too, but I guess they're different usually..?"
[22:09] <Aline> "Yes! You get pigeons and cats and dogs and rats and the like in the city, but out here…" She tried to remember her alpine fauna. "Stuff like deer and goats and maybe other big animals like that?"
[22:16] <Sept> "…deer and goats. Agile and surefooted. I've only heard about them. I -would- like to see some once. Maybe I could ask someone if there's any around…" Wonder shone off Sera's face. He was already imagining all of the adventures he could have during their stay.
[22:19] * Aline smiled wide and cordially… but yet, the way she tilted her head about made, for the briefest moment, light glint across her glasses and completely obscure her eyes. But only for a moment. "Yeah~ I'm sure a guide would be able to point out a common wildlife area, or maybe a preserve if nothing else. It'd be interesting for sure!"
[22:29] <Sept> "Mmhm. Oh, but we're only here for so long. I guess I should try and start exploring if I want to get the most out of it..? Oh, but before that. Have you seen Tsubaki anywhere? Do you think she'd enjoy 'exploring' too?"
[22:36] * Aline raised a brow slightly. Just slightly. Was he… did he… She almost went to say something, but closed her mouth (and eyes), and lowered her head with a sort of mild, knowing smile. Oh no, this is Sera, he wouldn't have meant it that way. "I don't really know where she's been. Probably with her much older sister. You know, the scientist girl?" …Aline resisted the urge to add 'who
[22:36] * Aline looked at your eyes creepily during a lot of the flight here, as if she was pondering which soup stock they'd best cook in'.
[22:40] <Sept> "Her sister… she's a weird one, isn't she…"
[22:45] * Aline was going to say something about Tsubaki, but Tsubaki was basically a Japanese, white-haired Sera who did awkward smart things and totally-not-paying-attention things instead of the social-avoidant and weird-urban-ninja things. It'd be rude to call her weird, as even if Sera didn't get it (he -was- a tad slow), she'd be calling him weird. Not that he wasn't, but so was she. …WHATEVER.
[22:45] * Aline Moving on. "Really driven-seeming. Kinda… …spooky. I know she has to have something to do with NERV Japan's science team, but she's not nice-seeming like Yui is. She feels just… off."
[22:57] <Sept> "Yeah, I guess that's a good way to put it…" Sera thought back to the flight, and those eyes, staring at him so intently. What was she looking for? "Do you still think it's true? About Tsubaki and 03?"
[23:00] * Aline nodded very firmly. In fact the speed at which she agreed was… almost unnervingly fast. "Absolutely. Tsubaki isn't the kind to imagine that -or- make it up. And I still think some kind of pattern exists in all the other Evas' souls." …When -had- she started really calling them souls?… Was it /that/ conversation?… Maybe, she thought. Maybe that one.
[23:04] <Sept> "What do you think she was like… before? No parents, raised only to fight… I couldn't live like that."
[23:07] <Aline> "Asuka said she was depressed before that. More clear in the head, but depressed. So…" Aline siiiighed. And do we mean /sighed/. "You should know by now about my mood swings. I know what it feels like to be depressed. So in a way… She couldn't live like that either. The heart was beating and the spirit was in the body, but… that's about it."
[23:14] <Sept> "…" Sera clenched his fists. It wasn't entirely clear if it was to get some blood flowing in them again, or as an emotional response. "But she's alright now. She has her sister, and she has us. And we'll make sure she doesn't have to face that again, won't we?"
[23:18] * Aline closed her eyes again, more in the 'serene posture of thought' style than the other gestures she had been making. "No. She won't face it. Even if you can't make sure of it, I will." Suddenly, the eyes snapped open! Is it determination or some sign of dogged obsession in those eyes? None would know, not even Aline. "I'm making sure of it for all of us, don't you worry!" …Maybe he
[23:18] * Aline should.
[23:29] <Sept> "Thank you, Aline. I'm sure we'll be able to do it together. And thank you for the lessons, I'm sure they'll be really helpful!" Sera got up, and headed out toward the stairs. "Have a nice day, Aline, and try not to worry about your truth too much for now! These days are for -fun-~"
[23:34] * Aline gave him a smile, at that. "You're welcome, anything to help~" …Though once he left her sight, she turned her back to the stairs, and pulled off her cap for a moment, squishing it in her hands while locks of hair (very slightly, that stuff was -long) bunched under it were let free, the sudden shift allowing the hair to catch the wind. She kne he was gone, but… "I can have fun.
[23:34] * Aline But the truth… I won't stop looking for the truth, as long as I'm in this world." Her eyes gazed out across the snowy fields, as sunlight hit her glasses. It did not hide her eyes, but drew a bead of light across their edge, a brief sparkle up at the top of the resort. …She would remain there for a few minutes more, before heading down.
