Ginevre S Egress

[16:11] <Minaplo> [Ginevre Fontaine sat alone in the silent office of the Commander of NERV's Tokyo-2 branch. The Geofront had gone quiet for two hours by now- in fact, so had the battleship, the Expeditionary Force, everything. It seemed impossible to get in touch with anyone important in Paris-2 at all, and it set her on edge. She had a pilot there, after all. She'd taken precautions after the Geofront went quiet- she'd ordered the Evas armed and ready for combat. But after an hour she'd gone from 'caution' to 'initiative'. The Evas were already in flight across the Pacific.-
[16:26] <Minaplo> [And now she mulled, her brow furrowed, her eyes narrow, looking merely angry on the outside but feeling confused and worried within. And so, when the doors to her office slid open, she looked up in surprise.-
[16:27] <Minaplo> [And then dismay at the sight. Four yellow-clad Storm Troopers stood there, fully armed. They stepped out into the room, their stride decisive, their helmets implacable.-
[16:27] <Minaplo> ["What is it?" Asked Fontaine.-
[16:27] <Minaplo> [They continued to walk.-
[16:27] <Minaplo> ["What is the meaning of this? Speak!"-
[16:31] <Minaplo> [The troopers halted. The sergeant- designated by a white stripe on his breastplate- stood forward. "Ginevre Fontaine, you are hereby charged with many and indiscriminate breaches of the NERV charter as well as serious crimes against the Universal Law of the United Nations."-
[16:31] <Minaplo> ["… What?!" Ginevre got to her feet, furious. "How d-"-
[16:34] <Minaplo> ["You are hereby charged with embezzling NERV funds, misappropriating technology, misuse of key systems including MAGI and Evangelion units, and poor leadership in times of crisis. You are also hereby charged with conspiracy, sedition and most seriously, high treason against the United Nations and the human race."-
[16:36] <Minaplo> ["As a representative of Magistrate Mori Himiko of the Fourth Storm Trooper Regiment I hereby find you guilty of the above crimes, with the lawful and righteous punishmnet being your just and immediate execution."-
[16:37] <Minaplo> [They were assassins. They were here to kill her, no matter how they hid their words in legalese and officiality. Hitmen from Mary Caine.-
[16:40] <Minaplo> [She had a gun in her desk, a revolver, but she wouldn't have time, not before they fired. And even then, their armour would deflect the bullets easily.-
[16:41] <Minaplo> [She could dive for cover! But she wasn't a fighter in the end. She could hold her own- she was very strong, after all- but…-
[16:50] <Minaplo> [They raised their guns. Accurate pulse rifles. She'd die quickly…-
[16:51] <Minaplo> [The rearmost Storm Trooper silently reached to a satchel on his belt, taking out a small spherical ob- a grenade! This was too much…-
[16:51] <Minaplo> [But then something strange happened. He lobbed it into the air, where it arced- and landed, right at their feet. The rearmost Trooper turned away- and just in time, Ginevre dove for cover.-
[16:57] <Minaplo> [There was a tremendous bang- Ginevre felt a wave of force erupt against the desk, which was easily pushed on top of her, pinning her beneath its bulk. Her chair flew into the wall, where it shattered. The computers were wrecked.-
[16:58] <Minaplo> [She pushed against the desk. And again. And again- and finally it started to give way, allowing her to crawl out. Her body hurt, her left hand -ached-. A sprain, most likely.-
[17:01] <Minaplo> [The Storm Troopers had been thrown clear by the shockwave, smashed against the walls. They weren't moving. Well. Most of them weren't moving. The one who'd thrown the grenade got to his feet, seemingly unharmed- he'd tucked himself into a ball before the grenade had hit.-
[17:02] <Minaplo> ["That was a bad throw." Said Ginevre coolly, grabbing one of the discarded pulse rifles.-
[17:02] <Minaplo> ["On the contrary. It landed precisely where I hoped it would." Said the Trooper, reaching up to take off his helmet.-
[17:03] <Minaplo> [He was dark-skinned, and his hair was white; it was a mess. Some of it was clearly gelled back, but for most of it the gel had dissolved, leaving his hair a tangle of curls. He had grey eyes.-
[17:04] <Minaplo> [Fontaine stared. Her eyes widened, and she dropped the gun. "You…"-
[17:04] <Minaplo> ["Me, ma'am." Said Matthias Holmstrom, tucking his helmet under his arm.-
[17:05] <Minaplo> ["What… You-" Fontaine was dumbfounded. "Y-Does your mother know you're here?" She asked, a stupid phrase that sounded even stupider said out loud.-
[17:07] <Minaplo> ["No, ma'am. And I'd prefer if it stayed that way. In all fairness, she has enough to be getting along with." Said Matthias.-
[17:07] <Minaplo> [Fontaine stared, and then stared a little more. She bit her lip, looking down at her feet, before looking up again. "How? What are you even doing here?"-
[17:08] <Minaplo> ["Rescuing you, ma'am." Said Matthias. "I was ordered to go along with these Troopers to execute you, since I know some of the secret passwords NERV doesn't share out-"-
[17:08] <Minaplo> ["How?"-
[17:10] <Minaplo> ["That's a secret, ma'am. As I was saying, I was told to go along. However, I was never intending to see you come to harm. I work for someone else, someone secret who'd much rather you lived." Said Matthias. "Now, you need to head to underground dock B3."-
[17:10] <Minaplo> ["You aren't coming?"-
[17:10] <Minaplo> ["Sorry, ma'am. I need to concuss myself." He said seriously. He put his helmet back on and took out another grenade. "Shockwave grenades, ma'am. I'll be hard of hearing for weeks."-
[17:11] <Minaplo> ["…" She took a deep breath. "Thank you, Matthias. Good luck. I'll see you whenever I can."-
[17:11] <Minaplo> ["The same to you, ma'am."-
[17:11] <Minaplo> [And so she turned and headed to the back of the office. NERV's commanders' offices didn't only have one entrance, of course. They had one obvious entrance and several secret ones- it was this one that she now went through. It opened up into a dingy stairwell.-
[17:12] <Minaplo> [She'd not made it more than eight steps before she heard- or rather, felt in her gut- the shockwave grenade exploding through the room. She ran on.-
[17:13] <Minaplo> [This entrance came out near the science labs. She didn't have time to talk to anyone and tried to keep out of sight as she went. If she were seen, it could cause problems.-
[17:14] <Minaplo> [After a close shave, nearly running into Yui Ikari near the women's bathrooms, she managed to pass into another stairwell- and down, down into the depths of NERV Tokyo-2.-
[17:15] <Minaplo> [In the Geofront, this probably would've led to some ancient artifact of doom that sent everyone around it mad within minutes, but in the far more utilitarian Minifronts, this path led to the underground docks- huge underground chambers connected to a body of water that flowed out into the sea, allowing for supplies to be directly shipped in.-
[17:16] <Minaplo> [The dock was supposed to be guarded by S2 agents, but they seemed to be mysteriously gone. Instead there stood a man.-
[17:24] <Minaplo> [He was tall and imposing, encased in what appeared to be a dramatic dark red and black suit of ornate power armour, judging from the plating. He wore an elaborate helmet that was fit snug into a high-collared gorget; the helmet's eyes glowed with fiery light. Around him he wore a heavy cape that framed him perfectly.-
[17:24] <Minaplo> [Fontaine slowed, eventually coming to a stop a short ways away. This man… "Who-"-
[17:27] <Minaplo> ["Madame Fontaine. I am so glad you made it out safely. I was afraid dear Mr. Holmstrom wouldn't be up to the task. Allow me to introduce myself." He made a long, elegant bow, one hand on his stomach, the other gripping the edge of his cape.-
[17:35] <Minaplo> ["I was one who was dead, and found myself alive; I who was once a mere man, am now a living legend; in the darkness of the new world, I shine as a last light of hope; from me, fire; against me, the hammer blow; wearing upon me arms, within me great power; I am Vercingetorix, the last, best hope for mankind; and to you I come now, at the turn of the tide."-
[17:36] <Minaplo> [A heavy silence sat in the air between the two of them. Neither spoke. Vercingetorix remained unmoving in his bow.-
[17:36] <Minaplo> ["… Pardon?" Asked Fontaine eventually.-
[17:36] <Minaplo> ["Shall I repeat for your pleasure?"-
[17:37] <Minaplo> ["No, no," She said hastily. "So you're Vercingetorix. I've heard of you. Apparently you've been stirring up a bit of trouble."-
[17:38] <Minaplo> ["I intend to stir up much more, before all this is concluded." He said. "I will take you to safety, and in time take you home." He gestured toward a small skiff that sat on the water's surface.-
[17:38] <Minaplo> [Fontaine didn't move.-
[17:39] <Minaplo> ["Either you come with me now, or you stay in her clutches." Said Vercingetorix, hopping into the skiff.-
[17:40] <Minaplo> [He couldn't possibly be worse than Mary Caine, it was true, who had just tried to have her killed. There really was nothing for it. With a grim look on her face, Fontaine stepped onto the skiff.-
[17:40] <Minaplo> [And then they were gone, off- and away.]
