He Said Love You

[14:22] <Isaiah> [A few days had passed since Isaiah's admission to the intensive care ward. Had Yanmei slept? Had she even left the hallway? Rei was asleep, once again…]
[14:25] * Yanmei was sitting in a chair facing Isaiah's room once again. There weren't many people around, so she allowed herself to slouch. Her head drooped with a few day's worth of accumulated exhaustion.-
[14:27] <Yanmei> For her, time was doing strange tricks, speeding faster and faster. How long had it been since she had eaten dinner? The clock said three hours, but it felt like a twenty minutes.
[14:33] <Isaiah> [A nurse trundled by, off to aid some other patient. Isaiah remained within his room…]
[14:34] * Yanmei blinked, very very slowly. Lids down, lids up. Everything was the same.
[14:37] <Isaiah> [The chair was uncomfortable and she might even feel mild aches in her body from the brief times she'd fallen asleep. When would he wake up…?]
[14:38] * Yanmei shifted. Tried standing, walking over to the window again. She felt more awake when she was on her feet. Usually.
[14:40] <Isaiah> [Isaiah was lying there still. He'd been lying there for days… A nurse had changed his wrappings at some point. Fresh white linen covered his wounds… What did she feel, seeing him there?]
[14:48] <Yanmei> Anxious. Perhaps less so today than recent days. There was only so much she could take, she supposed, before just -adapting-. She was having more trouble with the unforgiving sleeping schedule, though.
[14:51] * Isaiah 's head shifted.
[14:54] * Yanmei stared, eyebrows lifting in surprise… before settling back down. Another waking dream. She hadn't had one since the day she had spoken to Nagisa, but she was sure something awful would happen next. Would the room fill with blood? Maybe his head would pop off. She braced herself, breathing harder.
[14:55] <Isaiah> His eyelids flickered a little…
[14:58] <Yanmei> "H-huh?" This… this seemed familiar. Like back in the hospital in Paris-2, when he'd…
[14:59] * Isaiah opened his eyes. He was staring at the window.
[15:00] * Yanmei stared back, stunned. She blinked hard. "I-Isaiah?"
[15:01] * Isaiah closed his eyes again… For the longest time they remained shut.-
[15:01] <Isaiah> But eventually they opened again. His gaze swivelled around the room, before settling on Yanmei.
[15:04] <Yanmei> Awake. Yanmei swallowed hard. Awake. Not dead or sleeping, but…! She tapped her fingernails against the glass, and waved at him, her face pale. It was a stupid thing to do, but it was also the first thing to come to mind.
[15:06] * Isaiah blinked back. Tried to lift his hand a little.
[15:07] <Yanmei> A smile spread across her face, a slow, grand, relieved smile. She spun away from him. Time to find a doctor. And quickly!
[15:12] <Isaiah> [It wouldn't take long. Even at this hour there was a doctor on duty nearby- a man, different to the doctor she'd first spoken to. This was the one who checked up on Isaiah every day…]
[15:18] <Yanmei> "Doctor!" She tried to… look a little more presentable, despite her haste. Toned down the volume. Slowed to a brisk walk. "He's emerging." That was the right terminology, wasn't it? "He just woke up. He tried to wave to me…"
[15:19] <Isaiah> ["!" The doctor blinked. Then smiled. "Good. It's about time…" He gave her a wink. "I bet you're pretty eager to say hello."]
[15:21] <Yanmei> "Well, I… have a few things to say to him," she muttered. Was that a sheepish tone? She tried to shake it off and raise her shoulders. "How soon can I meet with him? After he's examined?"
[15:25] <Isaiah> ["We'll have to wait and see. He might be feeling lucid and talkative within minutes, or he could take some time to rouse." The doctor started heading down the hallway.]
[15:26] * Yanmei stuck close, eagerly. She was more alert than she had been in a very long time. And time… seemed to be slowing down again, to the minute that she would get to see how far he had come.
[15:27] <Isaiah> [The doctor entered the observation room. Isaiah was staring at him, but his eyes quickly turned to Yanmei as she followed.-
[15:27] <Isaiah> [The doctor scrubbed in, and started examining Isaiah…]
[15:32] * Yanmei waited by the door to the room where the doctor had scrubbed in, tense, waiting for the signal to do so herself so that she could say hello. She didn't turn her eyes away, and they were filled with questions and concern and hope.
[15:33] <Isaiah> [The doctor seemed to be talking, but Yanmei couldn't hear, and she couldn't see if Isaiah was responding.-
[15:34] <Isaiah> [… The examination seemed to drag on, precious minutes bleeding away…-
[15:34] <Isaiah> [… Until eventually the doctor turned and gave Yanmei a thumbs up.]
[15:39] * Yanmei wasted no time! In she went. Wash, gown, gloves, mask, hair thing. She emerged in Isaiah's room at last, feeling silly and self-conscious about the outfit, but -glad-. WHo knew, maybe it would make him laugh.
[15:41] * Isaiah had watched. And now he looked up at her with tired, pained blue eyes- but eyes that were alive, and looking at her. He said something, muffled by the life support mask.
[15:44] * Yanmei leaned over closer, trying to hear. Very close. "I'm…" she breathed, her own voice also muffled, but not to his degree. Enough to hide the shakes in it, at least. "…I'm so glad you're okay!"
[15:45] <Isaiah> "You're… Not hurt…"
[15:47] * Yanmei shook her head. But then her eyes grew more serious. "But you…"
[15:48] * Isaiah let out a deep sigh, which Yanmei would realise was one of deep relief. "I'm… Ok. Now… You're here."
[15:54] <Yanmei> Warmth flooded through her. Yanmei reached and took his hand. The last few days had been worth it, just to see this. "Everyone was so worried. Marianne, and Katsuragi, and Blanc and Shinji and Rei. And… me. I was really scared. Really really…"
[16:01] * Isaiah squeezed, however feebly it was. His hand was pleasant and -warm- and wonderful. "I…" He paused, taking deep, tired breaths. "Wouldn't… Leave you…"
[16:05] <Yanmei> "Yeah. Yeah, I know," she whispered, and squeezed back. "I won't leave either. I'll be here when you go to sleep and when you wake up again."
[16:07] * Isaiah feebly tried to move his hand, tried to pull it a little closer to himself, but she could feel the weakness in his muscles. "I…" A muffled response.
[16:10] * Yanmei moved it for him, inclining her head a little bit, inquiring and slightly puzzled.
[16:11] * Isaiah gently put her hand to his cheek, resting his head against it a little. "Don't… Deserve you." He coughed out.
[16:18] * Yanmei wanted to protest that, judging from the look on her face. She even opened her mouth a little behind her mask, but then she firmed up again, and shook her head gently. "Rest your voice a little, okay? Let me tell you about what went on while you were asleep. Mom was here, and so was Nagisa, but both of them… left."
[16:19] <Isaiah> "Mom… And Nagisa…" His eyebrows rose feebly.
[16:23] <Yanmei> "Yes. Both of them came to see how you were doing. Seperately, of course." It would have been weird if they had arrived together. "But Mom got called back to Beijing, and Nagisa wandered off someplace looking depressed about things."
[16:23] <Isaiah> "Mom is… Really sweet. Kaworu…?"
[16:27] <Yanmei> "That guy just does what he wants." She sighed helplessly. "But it's okay. He was nice this time. He gave me some advice."
[16:27] <Isaiah> "Yeah?"
[16:34] <Yanmei> "We should talk about some things. Guilt and… sad feelings." She was mumbling a little. "But not here. You have to get your strength back first. And it should happen in a private room."
[16:36] <Isaiah> "…" There were questions in his eyes. Concern. Something was wrong…? But trust, too. He trusted her. He snuggled a little into her hand. "Alright…"
[16:43] <Yanmei> "It'll be a good talk. Clensing. You don't have to worry," she said warmly. She let her voice drift off, then, just content to watch him during this rare peaceful moment.
[16:44] * Isaiah nodded simply. His eyes were already drooping. "Love… You."
[16:48] <Yanmei> "You too," she murmured. She gave his hand another little squeeze, wondering if he could feel it or if he was too sleepy to.
[16:49] * Isaiah seemed to, a little… Before he was, again, asleep.
[16:55] * Yanmei released him, very reluctantly, and started to stand. The adrenaline of seeing and talking to him had restored her… but not completely. Her body still ached, and her mind was clouding up a lot. Still, she knew there were people she had to contact.
