Hohenzollern S Introduction

[14:33] <AdEvaGM> [The five senior members of the HIC sat at their places, forming that familiar semi-circle.-
[14:33] <AdEvaGM> ["We're prepared to meet the new Commander." Said Shardlake.-
[14:33] <AdEvaGM> ["Then let's not waste time. Send her in." Said Caine.-
[14:38] <AdEvaGM> [The alcove in the middle of the room lit up, and a platform rose from the depths. On it was a woman- she was tall and thin, wearing a crisp black turtleneck and long sharp black dress pants. She wore stiletto heels, making her look even taller. Her hair was very light brown, and very long, reaching the middle of her back; she wore half-rim glasses over brown eyes. Her arms were at her sides, the well-manicured nails on each hand painted blue.-
[14:39] <AdEvaGM> ["Professor Hannelore Kriemhild Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen." Began Shardlake. "You have been elected to be the new Supreme Commander of NERV by the HIC in a vote of 6 to 1. Do you accept?"-
[14:42] <AdEvaGM> ["Yes, of course." She said confidently.-
[14:43] <AdEvaGM> ["Heh." Washington leaned back in his chair. "What a surprise. Between leading NERV or teaching Metaphysical Biology in Cologne- I know what I'd choose."-
[14:50] <AdEvaGM> ["Marking papers loses its charm after the first ten years." Said Professor Hohenzollern. "Besides, I -am- the best in my field."-
[14:54] <AdEvaGM> ["Of course," Came Shardlake's voice dryly, "You only hold that position because nearly every one else has since died or left the field…"-
[14:55] <AdEvaGM> [Hohenzollern scowled at him. "Left the field to join NERV, you mean."-
[14:57] <AdEvaGM> [Shardlake stared back at her. "You are intelligent, you know how to read people, and you know how to plan. Your leadership ability is untested-" he raised a hand as Hohenzollern moved to speak. "No, the opinions of a few hundred unimportant university students do not count."-
[14:59] <AdEvaGM> ["NERV is not a university faculty, nor is it a laboratory." Said Romanov. "It is a paramilitary organisation that happens to have a scientific division, not the other way round. It has to be led firmly."-
[15:01] <AdEvaGM> ["I'm quite aware, sir." Said Hohenzollern, folding her arms and turning her gaze back to Caine. "Madame Caine, if what Romanov says is true- and we both know it is- why choose a scientist over someone with a military background?"-
[15:02] <AdEvaGM> ["You are loyal." Said Caine simply. "And despite Romanov's words, having a leader who can understand the science is more important than a staff officer. That's why battles are left to Operations. You will understand what goes on at NERV, and you will also be willing to carry out our orders."-
[15:03] <AdEvaGM> ["Of course, madame." Said Hohenzollern. "I have orders beyond simply managing NERV, then?"-
[15:03] <AdEvaGM> ["Of course." Said Shardlake. "After the debacle that was Ikari and Fontaine, that can hardly be surprising."-
[15:04] <AdEvaGM> ["We believed Ikari to be on our side." Said Washington. "We were- mistaken. His death is really pretty fortuitous for us- he's been working against the goals of this Committee, trying to expand its autonomy- essentially weakening our power."-
[15:04] <AdEvaGM> [Hohenzollern frowned deeply at this. "I see…"-
[15:05] <AdEvaGM> ["We're also fairly positive that he was been embezzling funds." Said Shardlake. "Or at least, large sums have gone missing- we cannot trace them…"-
[15:06] <AdEvaGM> ["That seems strangely petty for Ikari." Said Hohenzollern. "He's not one to dip into the accounts."-
[15:10] <AdEvaGM> ["None of us really think he was trying to build up a slush fund." Said Washington. "The problem is that he could use it for more- clandestine purposes. Bribes, financing dissent, that kind of thing."-
[15:11] <AdEvaGM> ["I see." Said Hohenzollern, her right hand tapping against her arm idly.-
[15:11] <AdEvaGM> ["Ikari was soft." Said Shardlake. "He permitted too many mistakes in NERV, both in regards to its problems and to the culture that exists there. He allowed insubordination and permitted ill discipline."-
[15:12] <AdEvaGM> [Hohenzollern didn't respond, but waited for more information.-
[15:19] <AdEvaGM> ["The pilots." Said Caine. "Ikari did nothing to remind them of their place in the established order, let them bend the rules and perform serious transgressions without punishment."-
[15:20] <AdEvaGM> ["Spare the rod, spoil the child?" Asked Hohenzollern, eyebrows raised.-
[15:20] <AdEvaGM> ["Yes."-
[15:21] <AdEvaGM> ["Your first and highest priority will be dealing with de Pteres." Said Shardlake. He pushed a dossier across the table towards Hohenzollern, who walked over and took it. "He has always been eccentric- not surprising considering his origins and upbringing. But recently he has become deranged."-
[15:21] <AdEvaGM> ["Deranged?" Asked Hohenzollern cautiously.-
[15:21] <AdEvaGM> ["The file." Shardlake nodded.-
[15:31] <AdEvaGM> [Hohenzollern opened the dossier and peered down at one file. "Expresses delusions of grandeur up to and including that of godhood." She read. "Exhibits extreme forms of egocentrism, leaping to grossly inaccurate judgements about situations based on faulty data, invariably centred on himself. Believes himself to be the universal moral imperative, despite consistently displaying sociopathic tendencies and indulging in highly unethical and immoral action, including theft, espionage, and attempted murder." Hohenzollern raised her head and stared at Caine flatly.-
[15:32] <AdEvaGM> ["He's a rabid squirrel with entry plug access. Why hasn't he been killed yet?"-
[15:33] <AdEvaGM> ["He's too important to simply kill." Said Caine. "Unit-01 doesn't activate for anyone else."-
[15:33] <AdEvaGM> ["Still. It sounds like he's a danger to himself and others. If these symptoms were less extreme I'd say he was just a normal teenage boy." She said indulgently.-
[15:34] <AdEvaGM> ["To be fair, whatever inherent eccentricities he possesses have probably been greatly warped by long-term experiences with an Evangelion unit." Said de Orleans. "You can imagine that consistent, regular access to a god-like entity would twist a mind."-
[15:35] <AdEvaGM> ["Yes, I see." Hohenzollern nodded- and flashed de Orleans a white, even-teethed smile. "Congratulations are in order, I believe, sir. You recently adopted?"-
[15:36] <AdEvaGM> ["That is correct." He said with a smile. "One of the poor NeoSpartans recovered from Eden- her name is Padma."-
[15:36] <AdEvaGM> ["Padma d'Orleans?" Hohenzollern nodded. "It rolls off the tongue, definitely."-
[15:37] <AdEvaGM> [de Orleans inclined his head.-
[15:38] <AdEvaGM> [Hohenzollern turned back to the file- reading, then pausing. "… Exhibits treasonous goals, including the takeover of NERV?" Hohenzollern looked up at Caine incredulously. "Is this real?"-
[15:38] <AdEvaGM> ["Yes." Said Caine flatly. "de Pteres will be a consistent problem. Deal with him as you like- do not kill him."-
[15:38] <AdEvaGM> ["Understood." Said Hohenzollern. "I'll make sure to reform him."-
[15:39] <AdEvaGM> [Shardlake let out a snort of disbelief. Caine continued.-
[15:39] <AdEvaGM> ["There is also Aline Blanc." Caine pushed a dossier towards Hohenzollern, who read this as well.-
[15:39] <AdEvaGM> ["Demonstrates god complex, albeit diminishing. Otherwise mentally stable…" Flick.-
[15:40] <AdEvaGM> ["… High possibility of being recepticle for Second Angel." Hohenzollern's eyebrows shot up. "Refer to China Incident, etc…" Hohenzollern frowned. "I see."-
[15:41] <AdEvaGM> ["The Second Angel is highly important to our plans. Protecting Blanc and earning her trust are both important objectives." Said Caine.-
[15:41] <AdEvaGM> ["And finally, there is Zhang." Said de Orleans, pushing a dossier towards Hohenzollern, who took it as well.-
[15:42] <AdEvaGM> ["Few psychological abnormalities observed; highly secretive, protective, defensive and exhibits paranoid tendencies." Read Hohenzollern.-
[15:43] <AdEvaGM> ["Zhang is a shallow, vain child of only mediocre qualities." Said Shardlake. "She is opposed to us, but on her own she is not much of a threat."-
[15:43] <AdEvaGM> ["I would hardly call her shallow." Said de Orleans, a little defensively.-
[15:43] <AdEvaGM> ["If I wished for your opinion, I would speak in French." Replied Shardlake curtly.-
[15:44] <AdEvaGM> [de Orleans moved to respond, but Caine held up a hand. "Enough."-
[15:45] <AdEvaGM> ["Zhang is by herself unimportant. She possesses a Libido Effect with Gabriel-Wei, however, and she holds the confidence and respect of many in the Geofront. Thus, you can use her to your advantage if you gain her trust." Said Caine.-
[15:45] <AdEvaGM> ["I'll keep that in mind." Said Hohenzollern. "What next?"-
[15:46] <AdEvaGM> ["That's all for specifics. Other data will be sent to your PDA." Said Shardlake.-
[15:46] <AdEvaGM> ["There is one other thing." Said Romanov.-
[15:46] <AdEvaGM> ["Oh?"-
[15:46] <AdEvaGM> ["We have seen fit to strip Léon Thomas of his position as Vice-Commander."-
[15:46] <AdEvaGM> [Hohenzollern looked surprised at that. "Not that it means much to me, but do you have a reason?"-
[15:47] <AdEvaGM> ["We have no more patience for Thomas's mulish ways." Said Shardlake. "We are assigning you a Vice-Commander of our own choosing."-
[15:47] <AdEvaGM> ["And who might that be?"-
[15:49] <AdEvaGM> [From the back of the room- from the shadows- a person melted into view. It was a woman of moderate height, with very straight long black hair and a petite, delicate-looking face bearing an expression of immaculate coldness. She wore a high-collared white shirt underneath a long black coat.-
[15:49] <AdEvaGM> ["No doubt you are familiar with the Night Witch?" Asked Romanov smugly.-
[15:54] <AdEvaGM> [Hohenzollern stared levelly at the one called the Night Witch. "Serafina Raskova." Said Hohenzollern, her face thoughtful. "If I'm not mistaken, Chief Directorate of Foreign Operations of the Soviet Intelligence Service." She turned back towards Caine.-
[15:56] <AdEvaGM> ["Raskova is to be many things to you. Bodyguard first and moremost, enforcer, spy, inquisitor, and if need be your executioner, professor." Said Caine coldly. "The Committee rewards failure and disloyalty with vengeance. Do not forget that."-
[15:59] <AdEvaGM> ["I won't, madame." Said Hohenzollern, smiling. "You can trust me."-
[16:00] <AdEvaGM> ["Yes, I can."]
