In The Throng Of The Quarterly Nerv Games

SESSION 5: Neon Genesis Evangelion. Date: 29th of March. Episode Title: In the Throng of the Quarterly NERV Games

[20:25] <Dorian> [The 29th of March- a Sunday. For the past week, a bubble of excitement has slowly been growing in NERV HQ- small at first, then quickly swelling to encompass most of the facility. It's time. What's it time for? The Quarterly NERV HQ Inter-Divisional, Inter-Operational Games!-
[20:27] <Dorian> [The pilots had been informed about it, and told, simply, to come to HQ on that day. For a day of -fun-. Fun was mandatory.]
[20:33] * Aline could even feel the 'fun is mandatory' air. Alas, another time where she started the day feeling 'off'. It'd get better. Hopefully. But for now?… She simply made it a point to arrive at HQ, wearing a modest-ish outfit, though less so than normal. This time she'd be wearing shorts and a T-shirt, because she half-expected this to be some cockamamie attempt to put them through a
[20:33] * Aline whole Olympic sports battery. Her usual skirts and dresses would just get in the way!
[20:36] * Yanmei was at HQ bright and early, well before the games, courtesy of Marianne. She had whittled away the waiting time by hitting the company treadmills. Like Aline, she was dressed somewhat less formally than usual - black workout pants, matching jacket, and a blue t-shirt.-
[20:37] <Yanmei> For now, she recovered, freshly showered, bottled water in hands, watching the growing crowd and trying to look bright.
[20:39] <Sept> Fun. NERV seemed ill-fit for the pursuit, like a man in black with clown makeup. Nevertheless, Sera showed up as requested, if clad in his slightly suspiciously patterned track suit. Keeping an eye on the main gathering of people from the periphery, he -prepared-.
[20:43] <Dorian> [It should be noted, idly, that an odd sort of affliction had taken to NERV's walls during this time of levity- posters now adorned its walls. "Vote for Zhang Yanmei!" and "Zhang Yanmei for Saint Louis President" in big bold letters, with a picture of the aforementioned pilot winking at people.-
[20:43] <Dorian> [The reactions this provoked in NERV's employees ran the entire gamut from genuine curiosity to fits of giggles in the hallway.-
[20:44] <Dorian> [Nevertheless, eventually they'd be gathered in the Command Centre- which was mostly quiet, actually. Alone with Dorian and - well, not the Bunnies. A set of new faces were manning the console at this time.-
[20:45] <Dorian> "So!" Said Dorian, turning around in his chair to look at them. He was grinning. "So so so. Who's ready to have -fun-?"
[20:47] * Aline had tried to suppress a -vast- amount of groans, facepalms, and similar at the student president campaign posters on the way there… Though… while the whole fun thing was getting more than a bit creepy, Aline's eyes were more focused on the task of identifying the UNKNOWNS. WHO ARE THEY.
[20:48] <Yanmei> "I am?" She tried to sound certain. Of course, it should be noted that she was wearing a rather obvious 'Vote for Yanmei' button on her jacket. "I'm sure this will be lots of fun."
[20:48] <Sept> "Hello, Dorian. We'll see, won't we."
[20:50] <Dorian> "Haha. Yes we will." Said Dorian, grinning. "So! Do we know what's going on today?"-
[20:50] <Dorian> [The three replacement bunnies were… Not anyone Aline knew. They were, of course, wearing the NERV uniform, and they seemed pretty fresh-faced.]
[20:52] * Aline tilted her head, but shrugged. The normal crew is probably participating. "…Uh. Something about games?"
[20:57] <Sept> "Is this going to be like the conference? But with… games instead of words?"
[20:58] <Yanmei> "Probably. And competition, too," she said, glancing at Sept.
[20:58] <Dorian> "Nooo. The Quarterly NERV HQ Inter-Divisonal, Inter-Operational Games are going to be about -fun-. Don't worry- there won't be that many people there." Said Dorian with a grin. "I'm presenting! The idea, anyway, is that we all split up into groups of three. The traditional teams are the Bunnies- you know them- A team from Section 2, a team from the Tech Division, a team from the Med division-
[20:59] <Dorian> "And the 'International Team', drawn from other NERV bases. We're adding one last team this year- the Pilots. You three." Said Dorian with manic cheer. "The games are split into three sections- a physical section, a mental section and a wild card section."
[21:02] * Aline seemed a bit… confused, there. "Wild card section, huh?"
[21:02] * Yanmei watched Dorian very carefully when he said 'wild card' section. Something about just how darn happy he seemed made her intepret it as 'torture section'. "Well… those certainly do sounds interesting?"
[21:03] <Dorian> "Yes… Yes they do." Dorian's shades glinted.-
[21:03] <Sept> "O…kay. Do we get to know anything about the sections beforehand?"
[21:06] <Dorian> "Yes. The physical section is simple. There are three tasks- Shooting, Running and Close Combat. The three of you can only compete once each, so you have to decide that. The Mental section involves a popular quiz, and the wild card section is chosen at random by… Er. By legitimate sources."
[21:10] * Yanmei repressed a slight shiver. But this was nothing like fighting Angels or troublesome sync tests, so everything should be relatively okay. What was the worst that could happen?
[21:11] <Sept> "Seems simple enough…"
[21:12] * Aline on the other hand tried to push too much of the speculation out of her mind. She had bigger fish to fry. So many of them and so big that she worried she might know how to summon bigger fish, so as to crush her enemies unde… okay. No more re-reading the DnD rulebooks at night. Bad Aline. Baaaad.
[21:13] <Dorian> "So, any questions?"-
[21:13] <Dorian> [Behind them, the faint sound of something ripping could be heard.]
[21:14] * Sept opens his mouth, presumably to ask a question, before dropping the idea completely and investigating the sound wordlessly.
[21:14] <Yanmei> "None from me, Major~" She too looks back at the noise.
[21:15] * Aline shook her head. "I don't… think so." She sort of tilts her head to the side and tries to use peripheral vision only.
[21:16] <Dorian> [It's one of Yanmei's campaign posters.-
[21:17] <Dorian> [Rather, it used to be. A certain brown-haired, bespectacled someone had just ripped it off the rall, then scrunched it up into a ball. Alexandre Fontaine was whistling a little tune.]
[21:17] <Yanmei> "…"
[21:17] * Aline rolled her eyes. "What those are even doing here…" And a long sigh.
[21:19] <Sept> "Oh. Hello, Alexandre. Here for the event, or just… campaigning?"
[21:19] <Yanmei> "Indirect marketting. You do know how many NERV families have kids who attend Saint Louis?" She tossed her hair. "And oh well. He'll have to do a lot more than that~"
[21:20] * Aline shrugged. "Enh." She was -still- not amused at the whole student president stuff, it sounded.
[21:20] <Dorian> ["Here for the Event!" Said Alexandre merrily. "I've been put into the International Team, since NERV 01 wasn't able to send anyone over." Alexandre was now busy pasting a new poster up over where the old one had been.-
[21:21] <Dorian> ['Vote for Alexandre and he'll remove all these posters.']
[21:22] * Aline …rolls her eyes again. "Would you two please give that a rest?"
[21:24] * Yanmei was not going to give him the satisfaction of glaring at him. Oh no, she would channel her silent outrage into competing, now that she knew he was roped into this disaster too. "Oh Blanc, relax, would you?"
[21:24] <Dorian> [Alexandre threw the scrunched up poster at Aline's head. "See you all at the games~" He said, infuriatingly smarmily as he headed off.]
[21:26] * Aline stared. "I'll relax when I can feel the bea-…" She shook her head. "When I can feel the satisfaction of not being here."
[21:28] <Dorian> [The little ball of paper does, of course, bounce off of Aline's head at this point. There are certain conventions that must be followed.-
[21:29] <Dorian> "Alright, you lot. Settle down. Save it for the competition." Said Dorian, his pearly whites shining. "Anyway, if you all head down to Geofront Exterior Exit A, the other teams'll be there- you can mingle for a bit before the games start."
[21:33] <Sept> "…mingle. Right." Sera headed out, expressionless. He still wasn't quite sure what they were in for, let alone what the expected behavior was.
[21:33] <Yanmei> "Thanks you for the briefing, Major. We'll be sure to see you at the games~" A slight head-bob and she turned to go. Although not without making a short detour and a few adjustments to a certain poster. Riiiip.
[21:33] * Aline shrugged. And… just left. In fact, she tried to go as fast as she could while still looking like she was only walking.
[21:38] <Dorian> [Geofront Exterior Exit A referred to a 'ground-level' hatch on the bottom of the pyramid that was Central Dogma. The Geofront, of course, was more than just NERV HQ- underneath that massive dome was an endless, lovely green plain, with an underground lake and even forests, all of it lit up by the bright, warm light collected by the Geofront's Solar Collector Array.-
[21:39] <Dorian> [An area nearby had been set aside for the games. A shooting range had been set up, as had a collection of running tracks- 100m, 200m and 500m, to be exact. And finally, a wide area ringed with red and blue rope marked the Close Combat area.-
[21:40] <Dorian> [Other people thronged about here, of course. Some of them were just supporters- employees relishing their day off. Others were actual participants- including all of the heads of the respective Divisions. The pilots would be able to pick out-
[21:42] <Dorian> [Dr. Riel, alongside a scowling man who Yanmei would identify as Dr. Gabriel; an orange-red headed woman- Jeanne Simon, head of Security; Dr. Clement, head of Medicine, alongside Dr. Castillo-Delgado, who was eyeing the Close Combat ring with apprehension-
[21:42] <Dorian> [And, of course, the Bridge Bunnies, who were taking things easy.]
[21:44] * Aline looked all about at the people gathered… And she at least was a bit curious as to who the extremely angry guy was. Though… as it were, she'd just have to leave it alone. No idea who, and she was already a bit sour in mood herself, so she wasn't about to try to throw herself against someone else's anger too.
[21:47] <Sept> Of course he should've picked the forest patterns stupid idiot Sera.- "Hello, Frédéric", he called out. "How much do you have bet on us this time?"
[21:50] * Yanmei waved cheerfully to Dr. Gabriel, Isaiah's dad, from a distance, and kept an eye out for especially unfamiliar faces. Who was the rest of the International Team made of, she wondered…
[21:52] <Dorian> ["I dunno, man." Said Gosselin dubiously. "100 francs says that you win, but one of you gets the stuffing beaten out of you in the Arena."-
[21:53] <Dorian> [Dr. Gabriel saw Yanmei wave. He reluctantly sort of lifted his hand.-
[21:53] * Aline admitted being more than a bit curious about the international team, too. …And she had made it a point earlier, after the 'all our Evas are screwed up and so are the other children ._.' revelation, to go dig through NERV records to get photos of the other two children and their units. Forewarned is forearmed - FOR PSYCHOANALYSIS.
[21:53] <Dorian> [And finally, a shadow would fall across Aline. "Aline?" The familiar voice of one Dr. Ikari Yui.]
[21:55] * Aline -sharp about-faced-. "Hi, Dr. Ikari! So you're either in this or watching this, too?"
[21:56] <Dorian> ["A little bit of both. I'm in the Tech Division team- for 'old time's sake', but I'm also here escorting Tsubaki Akagi-san."]
[21:59] * Aline earperked! …And it almost did look like her ears actually perked up. This was clearly the emotional zenith of what she was capable of under the effects of her stubborn neurotransmitter failures. "Fa~scinating!" …There was just the slightest bit of 'plans closer to fruition yes yes yes yessss' in her tone, though.
[22:00] <Sept> "Only 100? It almost seems like… like you don't trust our capabilities, Frédéric."
[22:01] <Dorian> [Yanmei's eyes, roaming around, would settle upon a person she hadn't seen before. A teenage girl, of moderate height, with long sheets of pure-white hair and a face that screamed- or rather, whispered 'Dormant apathy'.-
[22:02] <Dorian> ["Well, of course. You -are- competing against me, Sera." Said Gosselin with a grin.]
[22:04] * Yanmei didn't waste much time wandering up to the new face with a smile. That expression made her positive that she would be rebuffed… and yet she felt compelled to try anyway. "Morning! So you got dragged into this thing too? I'm Yanmei." She extended a hand.
[22:06] <Dorian> ["…" The girl looked over at Yanmei with startingly blue eyes. She looked honestly like she could do with a good, long sleep. She reached out and shook Yanmei's hand. "I am sorry. I do not understand what you are saying." She said in clear English.]
[22:08] <Yanmei> "My mistake." She switched over to English - something she always felt clumsy at. "I'm Yanmei. I thought I would introduce myself?"
[22:08] <Dorian> ["Yanmei." She paused. "Zhang Yanmei, pilot of EVA 04?"]
[22:10] <Dorian> ["She's not very excited though." Said Dr. Ikari helplessly to Aline. "How are you feeling today?"]
[22:10] <Yanmei> "Yes, that's me." She kept smiling. "You're on the international team? I just wanted to say thanks for coming, Miss…?"
[22:11] <Dorian> ["Akagi Tsubaki. Pilot of Evangelion 03." She said quietly. "It's blue."]
[22:11] <Sept> "Ohh. If it's like that, I think we'll have to go easy on you. I don't think we can get Dorian to cover for us in running, though, so you'll still need to break a sweat!" Sera winked. He was helping~
[22:12] * Aline waved her hand back and forth. "…At least until I knew you and her were around, not very excited either. The… down phase of the mood swings again." She frowned at that, as if she really needed to underscore that fact. "…Does this mean Soryu-Langley-san is here too? I don't mean to suddenly skip over your presence, but I'm still curious."
[22:12] <Dorian> ["Running? Hah." Gosselin snickered. "Don't you know? The tasks are randomised by the MAGI."]
[22:15] <Yanmei> "So you're 03's pilot! It's a pleasure to meet you." She bobbed her head. "Is it your first visit to NERV's French division?"
[22:16] <Dorian> ["Yes." She said. "We're underground, aren't we?"-
[22:18] <Dorian> ["Ah…" Dr. Ikari opened her mouth to reply, when the Exit doors (which were, it must be said, about 2 feet thick) opened once more.-
[22:19] <Dorian> "Excuse me, everyone!" Said Dorian, rolling out, a megaphone in hand. "Excuse me! Is this on?"-
[22:21] <Dorian> [He wasn't quite alone. An athletic-looking girl with long, bright red hair stood at his shoulder. Her face was knitted into an expression that was instantly readable: she was here, people had best pay attention, possibly because asses were about to be kicked. She looked down at Dorian, taking the megaphone in hand. "Hey!" She cried out, her voice echoing off the walls. The heads of everyone in the field turned.-
[22:21] <Dorian> [She gave her megaphone back to a rather disgruntled looking Dorian, and grinned.]
[22:22] <Yanmei> "We are." Yanmei nodded in the affirmative. "If yo want to slip out to the surface later for sightseeing, lemme know. I'll see if my friend Aline can co-" Gah! Ears! She turned to the doors with a scowl.
[22:23] <Dorian> "Er, yes. Hello, everyone!" Said Dorian loudly. "I would like to let you all know that we now have the assignments for everyone for the physical tests. Please organise yourselves into your groups and await instructions." He paused, shooting daggers at the redhead at his shoulder.
[22:24] * Aline stared… looked at Yui, tried to give a little smile… then just nodded once. "Ah, I remember the photos. Question answered, then!" Mental notes. Boisterous. Possibly highly aggressive. A lot more joie-de-vivre than she had expected, which considering Tsubaki was a plus. Maybe. But… Aline bowed to Yui. "Ah, I'll go back to my team, then~" Which she did, heading to where Yanmei
[22:24] * Aline was!… and hoping Sera was doing so too.
[22:25] <Dorian> [Tsubaki stared at Yanmei. A question was on her lips- possibly as to the nature of the untapped spoils of the surface world. But, she heard the command and gravitated toward a central point, where she was joined within moments by said redhead, and of course, a gleeful Alexandre Fontaine.]
[22:26] <Dorian> ["Right!" I'll see you later, Aline." Said Dr. Ikari, who headed off toward the Tech Division team.]
[22:29] * Yanmei waved her off, at least, her own head cocked slightly to the side questioningly before looking around for her own team… and spotting the approaching Aline.
[22:30] * Sept also found his way back to his comrades, his attention firmly held by the speaker(s).
[22:32] * Aline eyed Yanmei as she drew near, before peering off in the direction Asuka went off to. "…Met Tsubaki, I see."
[22:32] <Dorian> "Alright. First and foremost, I would like to thank you all for coming. As you should know, the Quarterly Games are a chance for NERV employees to cultivate a culture of togetherness and -fun-." Said Dorian. "If we can work together, have -fun- together and win together, then we are a team and a family." A pause.-
[22:33] <Dorian> "I would like to extend our warm welcome to our cousins from Germany and Japan- Akagi Tsubaki, Pilot of 03, and Asuka Langley-Soryu, pilot of 02." Said Dorian quickly. "And finally- let's begin! The MAGI has sorted everyone, so if you can all split up and congregate near your performance areas… Okay.-
[22:34] <Dorian> "For the Close Combat event. Could I please have: Tsubaki Akagi. Aline Blanc. Dr. Felix Castilo-Delgado. Dr. Ikari Yui. Jeanne Simon, and Frédéric Gosselin."
[22:34] <Dorian> [Dr. Castilo-Delgado went pale.]
[22:34] <Yanmei> "Yeah. She seemed a little tired?" She eyed Alexandre from a distance, and radiated disapproval. The roll call made her blink, though. "…Aline Blanc for combat?"
[22:37] * Aline blinked widely. "…I… what?" Aline shook her head a few times to clear out the crazy seeping in through her ears - only her own crazy should be in there, yanno - before sighing. "…I'm really poor in every physical field, Yanmei. It'll be fine. Besides, from my very brief personality analysis, I should just be relieved that Asuka - that redhead who came in with Dorian - isn't
[22:37] * Aline involved. She sounds like she'd be a beast in a fight… Comparatively this'll be easier. I think." She looked to Sera. "Here's hoping I have luck."
[22:38] <Sept> "Good luck, Aline! Just do your best and have fun~"
[22:39] <Aline> "Ah… aheh." Not the most genuine of laughs. But she'd step forwards all the same!
[22:39] <Yanmei> "Yeah!" Yanmei quickly chimed in. "De Pteres is right. Ah… try to take it easy on the shrink, though? It looks like he's about to faint."
[22:39] <Dorian> "For the Running event. Could I please have: Alexandre Fontaine. Zhang- er. Zhang Yanmei…" He faltered a little, looking up. "Dr. Victor Clement. Dr. Elijah Gabriel. Sophie Gagnier. Jean-Baptiste Vimes."
[22:41] <Yanmei> "… r-running?" There was excitement at that… but it quickly turned to worry. Would she have any luck too? If her leg held together, and she did a halfway decent job…
[22:42] <Dorian> [Dr. Clement was desperately trying to catch Yanmei's eye. He had a very professional face on.]
[22:43] <Yanmei> Uh oh. That was not a good sign. Her heart sank a little, eyes clearly on Clement.
[22:43] <Sept> There was a sense of disappointment from Sera, but he still tried to put on an encouraging face… for the family, and -fun-!
[22:44] <Dorian> [The participants for the Close Combat Arena had congregated. "This ought to be interesting." Said Gosselin, with a grin. Dr. Ikari gave Aline a helpless, but amused smile. "The MAGI is making fun of us, I think." Dr. Castillo-Delgado, however, didn't seem to find that very amusing.]
[22:45] <Dorian> [The runners were starting to congregate, too. Dr. Clement immediately walked towards Yanmei, no matter where she actually was. "If you don't want to do this, you don't have to. I'll make Dorian put you in something else." He said quickly.]
[22:46] <Yanmei> Parting words for Sept: A smile. "That means the shooting up to you, de Pteres! Good luck, and relax! I'm sure Freya's cheering for you in the crowd somewhere."-
[22:47] * Aline lowered her head. "…What with Yanmei being in the running contest… That has to be the case." She looked at Dr. Delgado, though. "…I know why you have a problem with this. Just remember that this is a sporting event, and the 'fight' is no more real than any other game. I don't know what good thinking that will do, though…"
[22:47] <Dorian> "And of course, that leaves… For the shooting event. Asuka Langley-Soryu. Sera de Pteres. Dr. Luna Riel. Philippe Vosse. Dr. Louise Granger. Marianne Amatore-DeForest."
[22:48] <Yanmei> She only drifted away a few steps before she found herself facing Dr. Clement. "It's okay," she said cheerfully. "I doubt this will be an endurance test? If it hurts too much, I'll stop."
[22:49] <Dorian> ["…" Dr. Clement didn't say anything, but his brow was knotted in worry. Nevertheless he started drifting toward the running area.]
[22:51] * Yanmei followed him. Keeping up appearences with a confident smile~
[22:51] <Sept> Shooting. He'd probably have better luck throwing knives from a hundred yards, especially when pitted against another pilot, most probably better trained in the field than he was. Still, it was all for a good cause, so he resolved to do his best!
[22:52] <Dorian> [Each of the three events had a keeper- an arbitrator of the rules. The Combat arena had Dr. Arnise, who was part of the Medical Division, and once a wrestler. Shooting had Vice Commander Leon Thomas, wh- wait. No. As the results had been called out, he'd been shanghai'd into swapping with the Running keeper.-
[22:52] <Dorian> [Who was, of course, one Freya Solheim. She now stood in front of the shooting gallery, beaming.]

After the Games

[21:55] <Dorian> [The physical events have drawn to a close, now, and the parties are to assemble at the lunch table, where they'll be able to enjoy a moment of food, drink and for some people, most importantly, rest and/or momentary medical attention.]
[22:01] * Aline was able to - okay, mostly able to - make do with just some rest. At least, after taking a few (OTC, not surgical! She's not future Sept.) painkillers. And indeed, she was now attempting to enter into yon -luncheon- with her two teammates.
[22:03] * Sept arrives leisurely jogging to the scene, waving to those already present. He seems to be in relatively good spirits considering his CRUSHING DEFEAT earlier.
[22:05] * Yanmei waved to the approaching Aline and Sept from a distance. Having reached the lunch area - and the medical tent - slightly before the physical games finished up, she had staked out a table for them, and appeared to be in one hell of a good mood for some reason, beaming at them with genuine happiness. "So! How did it go?"
[22:09] * Aline grinned, for her own report. "Excellently! I went two rounds straight out of three - I even beat Tsubaki! …That is, 03's pilot." She glanced at Sera, as if to point out that she was only explaining for his sake, since Yanmei already met the girl.
[22:10] <Dorian> [Let's take a look at the other teams in the time being. The members of the Med Division who -weren't- working seemed rather despondent at their admittedly abysmal, if not unexpected performance. The Science Division seemed somewhat less dejected, except for Mr. Gabriel, who was rubbing his red-raw cheek, where he'd grazed it tripping during the race.]
[22:11] <Dorian> [The Security Division team were looking -very- pleased with themselves, with the exception of Jeanne herself, who looked, more accurately, merely satisfied. Team Bunnies were laughing and cracking jokes, trading stories and helping themselves to food.]
[22:11] <Sept> "I lost… but! I got Asuka to promise to teach me shooting later~"
[22:12] <Dorian> [And finally, Team International, where Asuka was talking long and loudly about her score, with Alexandre interjecting every so often. As the two talked, Tsubaki sat a little apart, sipping on a strawberry milkshake, an ignored sandwich on a plate in front of her.]
[22:14] <Yanmei> "Lucky you, huh? I bet that'll be something to remember," Yanmei smirked at Sept, remembering Asuka's earlier display at the opening ceremony. "And two out of three! Not bad. How'd you pull that off?"
[22:23] * Aline sort of… shrugged confusedly. "I'm not entirely sure. I think I just picked the right weapon and did some kind of 'enduring spirit' thing or somesuch." She tilted her head, though, at the continued loudmouthing over from International-team. "…I saw her score, actually. She and I are tied for second on individual scores, only Jeanne did better this round." Aline threw in a very
[22:23] * Aline odd tone for the next comment, the kind of tone that she might have normally used to refer in dread to the Angels. "Though considering how she seems to be… Nn."
[22:29] <Sept> "Hm?" Sera tilted his head at the comment, realisation dawning moments later. "Oh, I'm sure it'll be fine! We're all family, after all."
[22:31] * Yanmei giggled at that. "Yeah, sure? How can we be family if we barely know her? Same goes for that spacey pilot, Tsubaki. Not that we shouldn't be nice to them, of course."
[22:34] * Aline shook her head. "No, no, Tsubaki is fine. I meant Jeanne. And… I don't really know heads or tails about Asuka yet. But… we'll still have time." After a brief sigh, she turned to the two of them. "But… how did your ends go?"
[22:39] <Yanmei> "Well~" Yanmei glanced down at her leg, which was hidden beneath the table for the most part. "I couldn't compete in the final race. Dr. Clement wouldn't let me, and he's making me come in for an appointment tomorrow. But, I won the first race, and almost won the second? But more importantly, it was really fun." She was practically glowing. "So, it was completely worth it!"
[22:41] * Sept shook his head. "I couldn't really get a feel for the weapons at all. I hit some of the targets, but that was probably just luck. I can deal with losing, but… it was pretty weak of me."
[22:47] * Aline smiled at Yanmei's comment… "Ah! Well, fun counts for a lot~"… Though then Sera's got her attention. "…What do you mean, weak? Maybe insofar as you proved you need more gun training to be on par with others. But I think the person who could behead an Angel with a dippy little shaking knife is hardly weak!"
[22:48] <Yanmei> "Agreed. And anyway, shooting's way hard?" Yanmei rolled her canned drink from hand to hand. "I doubt I could have done much better."
[22:50] <Dorian> ["Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen." Came a megaphone-enhanced voice.]
[22:50] <Sept> "I… guess? Thank you." He didn't seem entirely convinced, but he was intent on keeping up the brave, encouraging face.
[22:52] <Aline> "Don't worry so much~" Her head perked, though. "Ah, I guess that means next contest is soon?
[22:54] <Dorian> "We're about to start the trivia section." Said Dorian. "Here are the rules."-
[22:56] <Dorian> "First and foremost. Each round is made up of five questions, and there are four rounds: General Knowledge, Science, Medicine, and NERV Asides. You may designate one round on which you will earn double points. Each question is worth one point.-
[22:57] <Dorian> "Finally, each round I will give you a hint to a special question. At the end of the game, the team that answers this question first will win a special prize! Any questions?"
[23:00] * Aline thought on this, and raised a hand. "So… Will there be any order to the special question phase, or do we just scramble to try to answer it, or what?"
[23:01] <Dorian> "A hint will be given out each round, after the 5 normal ones. You may write one answer per round to this special question."
[23:02] <Yanmei> "Leave it to an organization half-filled with scientists to think that answering a bunch of academic questions counts as fun?" Yanmei stretched, muttering. "Ah well…"
[23:04] <Sept> "I don't think I'll be of much help here, either. Looks like today's really your day, Aline!"
[23:04] * Aline tiiiiilted her head. "Come on, don't knock it! Without the ability to appreciate the science, you'll just be flailing aimlessly in the dark. Everything we do as pilots is nearly incomprehensible without it… But… okay, okay. But -try- to pipe up if I think you might have it! Or at least give me advice or something!"
[23:07] <Dorian> [The managers- Freya, VC Thomas and Dr. Arnise were wandering around now, putting down pads of paper onto the tables. There were four pieces, each marked "1. 2. 3. 4. 5. B." Finally, there was a 5th slip of paper that said, 'Circle your Double Point round: 1. 2. 3. 4.']
[23:09] <Sept> "I'll try my best, you can be sure of that" replied Sera. The half-fake cheer shone through brightly.
[23:11] * Yanmei eyed Sept with a slight touch of concern, and then peered down at the numbered papers.
[23:15] * Aline eyed them as well… And tilted her head a bit at it. "…So… Each round has 5 questions, and a slot for a guess at the bonus question… and we can pick one round to be our double point round." Aline smiled confidently at the double-score slip for her team. "…Let's take round 2. I know enough science to give some of the actual scientists a run for their money.
[23:16] * Sept nodded in agreement.
[23:17] <Yanmei> "Sounds fine with me."
[23:19] <Dorian> [The groups pick their bonus round, with the managers coming around to collect them all. Freya patted Sept on the head as she went, whispering a "Good luck, Sept- I know you can do it!" before heading off.]
[23:19] <Dorian> "Are we all ready?"
[23:20] * Aline nodded in the affirmative. "My team is ready~"
[23:24] <Dorian> [A chorus of 'yes' around the area. Dorian nodded.-
[23:24] <Dorian> "Alright. General knowledge! Question one. Who, in 2014, was named as Time's Magazine's Person of the Year?"
[23:36] <Dorian> [The sound of writing. From one of the tables, the distinct voice of one Asuka Langley-Soryu can be heard, going "… Man, you'd have to be an idiot to miss that…!"]
[23:37] * Aline grumbled at that, while she sort of looked around at Yanmei and Sera, whispering so as not to have little miss egotism hear. "This… isn't my specialty…"
[23:38] * Sept just shook his head ever so subtly.
[23:38] * Yanmei blinked. "Well, don't look at me. I don't remember either?"
[23:39] * Aline shrugged. "…Then let's guess? The announcements about NERV activity have to have been relatively recent, right?"
[23:41] <Yanmei> "You think it's someone in NERV. Then probably it's most well-known representative?"
[23:41] <Sept> "…Ginevre was along in the Eva projects, too..?"
[23:41] * Aline nodded. "That'd be right. So… Commander Fontaine."
[23:43] <Aline> "…Think so… Well, whatever. Close enough?" Assuming Aline got assent, she'd go ahead and write it in!
[23:44] <Sept> "Mmh. Might as well try."
[23:45] <Dorian> "Question two. Who succeeded President Wei Lujian as President of the Chinese Federation?"
[23:51] <Yanmei> "Liu…" Yanmei crinkled her brow. Whathisface… "B-Banchen…?"
[23:52] * Aline thought… "Banchen… Banchen… wait, no. Banchui! Liu Banchui."
[23:54] * Sept headtilts, meanwhile. He wasn't sure if he'd ever heard of these people.
[23:55] <Yanmei> "Yes! No, wait. No." Yanmei frowned. "It's Banchen, not Banchui. I've never even heard of Liu Banchui?"
[23:57] * Aline shrugged. "…I tried? Oh well. Go ahead with Banchen then."
[23:58] * Yanmei thusly wrote the answer!
[23:58] <Dorian> [Scribbles were written.-
[23:59] <Dorian> "Question three. Which was the first city to be destroyed by a Nuclear weapon after Second Impact?"
[00:05] <Yanmei> "Erm…" Yanmei though hard, but shook her head. "Sad thing is? I'm certain they covered this in school before."
[00:06] * Aline nodded. "…As am I. As am I…" She frowned. "But then again, I've sort of been thrown in a loop by all the 'real story' stuff we know because of being in NERV."
[00:12] <Dorian> [From another table… Alexandre reached over, nudging Tsubaki. "Hey, Tsubaki-chan… What was the first city nuked?" "… Nagasaki?" "…"]
[00:12] <Yanmei> "Well, we do know a couple of places that have been nuked. Tokyo, those places in the Middle East… We should just pick one already."
[00:13] * Sept frowned. "Uh. The first to be leveled would probably be the first to be rebuilt… right? You wouldn't happen to know what the oldest -2 city is, would you..?"
[00:13] * Aline shrugged… "…Enh, it's either Berlin or Tokyo, I guess."
[00:15] * Aline blinked. "Or… wait. Beijing-2 was the first second city. Yan-Yan, was Beijing ever nuked?"
[00:16] <Yanmei> "Nope. Beijing as been nuke-free, thankfully."
[00:16] * Aline snapped her fingers. "Gah. Berlin or Tokyo. I doubt the middle east was hit so precisely…"
[00:18] <Yanmei> "Just go with Berlin? It's as good a pick as Tokyo at this point."
[00:19] <Sept> "Sounds good… It's a hunch, but let's go with Berlin."
[00:19] <Aline> "Right." And she scribbled it down~
[00:23] <Dorian> "Question number 4: Who played the role of Inspector Javert in the 2011 movie "Les Miserables after Impact"?"
[00:29] <Yanmei> "Ah! That really cutre guy? Um." she snapped her fingers. "Something Depardieu?"
[00:30] * Aline paused… "
[00:30] <Aline> *"Gerard. Gerard Depardieu."
[00:31] <Yanmei> "Gerard!" She nodded enthusiastically and made with the scribbling.
[00:33] <Dorian> "Question 5: What is the most popular vacation resort in France?"
[00:40] * Aline dropped a hand down on their table with -much gusto-. "Ha! The Cote d'Azur, even with the climate changes!" Beam~~
[00:41] <Sept> "I remember reading about it being the most popular, but… sure it wasn't just advertising?"
[00:42] <Yanmei> "Just advertising? Not at all. And for good reason~" Yanmei started writing. "Maybe we can convince NERV to let us vacation there sometime?"
[00:42] * Aline nodnodnodnodnod - it was really enthusiastic. "It is, it is~ Dad used to take me skiing -and- swimming there at opposite parts of the year. Before he got shipped to Berlin-2 anyway."
[00:43] <Dorian> "And finally, the first hint for the Bonus Question: Who am I? I am famous."
[00:44] * Yanmei eyed Aline jealously! But the next question made her stop and blink. "Huh?"
[00:46] <Aline> "That's the first of four hints. So it has to be some kind of famous figure. But… I have no idea who. But we get to guess at each round so… Let's just pick a name, any name~ I vote EVA-01, just because we have noooooo idea."
[00:46] <Yanmei> "Well… EVA-01 -is- famous."
[00:47] <Sept> "…01?" … "Yeah, you're right, I suppose."
[00:47] <Dorian> ["W-what kind of a hint is that?" Came Asuka from another table.]
[00:48] * Yanmei commenced with writing!
[00:48] <Dorian> [Shortly after that, the Managers went around and collected the results. Dorian read them over and grinned.-
[00:49] <Aline> "Right now, we have very little, so why not? Anyway, I hope I'm good and ready for this coming round!"
[00:49] <Dorian> "The answers. Question one: Who, in 2014, was named as Time Magazine's Person of the Year? The answer, of course, was President Mortimer Mazarin, who was into his 7th year out of his 5 year term at the time."-
[00:50] <Dorian> "Question two: Who succeeded President Wei Lujian as President of the Chinese Federation? The answer was Liu Banchen."-
[00:52] <Dorian> "Question three: Which was the first city to be nuked post Second Impact? That was, of course, Tokyo."-
[00:52] * Sept facepalms.
[00:52] <Dorian> "Question four: Who played Inspector Javert in the 2011 movie 'Les Miserables after Impact'? The incomparable Gerard Depardieu!"-
[00:53] <Dorian> "And finally: Which is the most popular vacation area in France? Paris-2!"
[00:53] <Dorian> "… Just kidding. It's the French Riviera."
[00:53] <Yanmei> "3 out of 5." Yanmei sighed. "That pretty average?"
[00:54] <Aline> "Has to be relatively average… Only one of us at any one time would have a hope for this. Too… grab-bag."
[00:54] <Dorian> [The other tables… The Bunnies were snickering to themselves. The Science and Med teams looked fairly satisfied, whilst the words "Perfect Score!" could be heard from Asuka's table. (It -was- technically the 'International Team table, but that isn't really fooling anyone.)]
[00:58] <Dorian> "Unfortunately, no one got the Bonus Question. Honourable mention goes to the Security team, who put down "Dorian Lachapelle", but a dishonourable mention to the Med team, for putting down "Dorian Lachapelle's Ego"."
[00:58] <Dorian> [There was a wave of snickers.]
[00:59] * Aline smirked. "Ah, that would be too predictable~"
[01:01] <Dorian> "So- who's ready for round two?"
[01:02] * Aline just grinned oh-so-widely. She was quite ready. Oh yes.
[01:05] * Yanmei stretched, and then came down enough to give Aline a little thumbs-up.
[01:06] <Dorian> "Question one. Who, along with Dr. Naoki Akagi, co-authored the groundbreaking Cognitobiomechanical essay 'Genius Loci: A Case for the Application of Biological-Mechanical Technologies in Computing and Mathematics'?"
[01:06] <Dorian> ["…" You could sense the silence in the air. It was the silence of about four stunned teams, along with one very, very smug team.-
[01:07] <Dorian> [Tsubaki, however, who at this point had been intensely studying her half-drunk milkshake, suddenly looked up, affixing Dorian with a stare.]
[01:08] * Aline blinked quickly. "…Gk. Going straight to the brain. …To Gehirn. And here I was -hoping- my fields would be in there!"
[01:17] * Aline thoughtthoughthought. "Okay okay okay I don't actually remember, but Dr. Sophie Riel designed the MAGI system. Yui… Dr. Yui Ikari, I mean… this doesn't sound like her field. She's more interested in the physics and biomechanics." And so Aline committed it to paper!
[01:18] <Yanmei> All this while Yanmei continued her blank stare at the announcer. So out of her zone of expertise…
[01:20] <Dorian> [There are less confident looks around, and after awhile, Tsubaki reverts to her torpor.-
[01:21] <Dorian> "Question two: What, first postulated in 1930, is a theoretical model of a vacuum as an infinite sea of particles with negative energy?"
[01:26] * Aline at first hesitated… But then… "But it has to be. Dirac's… Dirac's…" She snapped her fingers. "Vacuum…" She was starting to furrow her brow. "Dirac's vacuum -something-."
[01:28] <Yanmei> "Ocean. No… sea! They mentioned it in class sometime." She gave a little grin. "Sometimes I pay attention too?"
[01:29] * Aline nodded, seeming to get some of it, too. "Right, the Dirac Sea generated by the vacuum polarization effect! Thanks!" …And she wrote down… well, an abbreviated form of that.
[01:35] <Dorian> "Question three: What am I? I am a type of antiparticle with an electric charge of +1e and a spin of 1/2, and the same mass of an electron, which is also my opposite."
[01:35] <Dorian> [Dr. Gabriel rolled his eyes.]
[01:39] * Aline sort of noticed that, but just sort of… blank-stared. Not like the bewildered teams did the first time… But more as an 'Is this seriously on the list?' kind of stare. "…Come on. Opposite of electron was a dead-ringer, and the positive charge and spin seals it!" Aline's voice raised… intentionally. "Who doesn't know this?!" …She just writes it down. Much like how Asuka
[01:39] * Aline treated the Time Magazine question, so too was this for Aline. Positron slid onto the paper, period.
[01:41] <Yanmei> Yeah… who didn't know? Heh heh… Yanmei glanced aside.
[01:42] <Dorian> "Question four: What discipline would I consult if I wanted to know about the theoretical knowledge behind an AT Field?"
[01:43] * Aline did realize the likely chance her teammates didn't, and quietly whispered back. "I'm trying to taunt little miss loudmouth on the International Team. It's actually obscure outside of people interested in science."
[01:46] * Aline turned around, at least trying to sound generous. "Pretty sure I have it, but any of you guys know it?"
[01:48] * Sept stared at Aline for a while, before blurting out "Metaphysical biology" suddenly. "Isn't it?"
[01:48] * Aline nodded, and did her little rapid-clap gesture. "Very good~" …And she wrote it down post-haste.
[01:51] <Dorian> "And finally… Who, in 1998, postulated the foundation of what, in 2004, would be fully recognised as Super Solenoid Separate-Energy Generation Theory?"
[01:55] <Dorian> ["Hmph…" From Alexandre, this time.]
[01:56] * Aline smiled… "And I know this too. One of you might, we seem to have more exposure to science together than I think anyone thought!" She started to write the 'Dr.' part of the answer, intentionally slowing down to let her teammates speak. Had to tread the line of Knowing Things and being gracious.
[01:58] <Yanmei> "Elisha?" said Yanmei. "Er… Smith? It was an unusual given name coupled with a common last name."
[01:59] <Aline> "Caine, actually." …She had already finished writing it down.
[01:59] <Dorian> "And, hint number 2 for the bonus question: My favourite food is chicken curry."
[02:01] * Aline blinked. "Chicken… curry…?"
[02:02] <Sept> "…I. Uh, could it be?"
[02:02] <Yanmei> "…Alexandre said once that his mom made it for him a lot."
[02:03] <Dorian> ["Eh? What a stupid hint! Who would p- Eh, you're writing something, Alex?"]
[02:04] * Aline looked at Sera - who seemed to have a clue - and then Yanmei, who seemed to have evidence, and then looked at Asuka. She tried to produce 'I'm staring at you' vibes juuuust long enough… before facepalming.
[02:04] <Sept> "…Ginn- Ginevre did say she likes to make it…"
[02:05] <Yanmei> "Well, it -is- a pretty delicious dish," Yanmei said. "I'm a little surprised that Fontaine has such good taste."
[02:06] <Aline> "Ah, yes, yes. …Ginevre is more famous than her son by far, so… I think you two are on to something."
[02:09] <Dorian> [The managers run around, collecting the answers… Dorian looks down at them. He nods, satisfied.-
[02:11] <Dorian> "So. Question one. Who, along with Dr. Naoki Akagi, co-wrote 'Genius Loci'? The answer is Dr. Sophie Riel."-
[02:12] <Dorian> "Question two: What, postulated in 1930, is a theoretical model of a vacuum as an infinite sea of particles with negative energy? The answer is a 'Dirac Sea'."-
[02:13] <Dorian> "Question three: What am I? I am a type of antiparticle with an electric charge of +1e and a spin of 1/2, and the same mass of an electron, which is also my opposite. The answer: a Positron!" He gave a nod to Dr. Gabriel.-
[02:13] * Aline was, for the most part, just acting impassively. She knew she knew. And Yanmei (and Sera!) did, more than a few times.
[02:13] <Dorian> "Question four… What discipline would I consult if I wanted to know about the theoretical knowledge behind an AT Field? The answer, of course, is Metaphysical Biology. Next!"-
[02:14] <Dorian> "And finally, question five… Who, in 1998, postulated the foundation of what, in 2004, would be fully known as Super Solenoid Separate-Energy Generation Theory? The answer is Dr. Elisha Caine, although Dr. Elisha Fontaine is also acceptable."-
[02:15] <Dorian> "And finally… The bonus question. Heh." Dorian shook the answers. "No right answers, but a few common ones."
[02:15] * Aline browraised, at that. "…The plot thickens…"
[02:19] <Dorian> "Alright. Are we ready to move onto Round 3?"
[02:23] <Yanmei> "Round three… this is medicine?" Yanmei frowned a little. "Well… how hard can it be?"
[02:24] <Aline> "I have no idea."
[02:25] <Dorian> [Dr. Clement was rubbing his hands. Dr. Castillo-Delgado gave Tsubaki a 'I will avenge my honour' look, which she didn't see, as she was busy staring glumly at her empty milkshake glass.-
[02:27] <Dorian> "Question one. What body part would I be missing after an Orchiectomy?"
[02:27] <Dorian> [Dr. Clement winced.]
[02:31] * Yanmei giggled softly, realized the immaturity of it, and then coughed to cover it up.
[02:32] * Aline …blushed. Really deeply. "…Well. I guess… …W-w-well then." She started to write the first few letters… but then sort of melted into a puddle of embarassment before she could finish it, passing the pencil to Yanmei.
[02:32] * Yanmei did so, but not without giving Aline an amused look first.
[02:34] <Dorian> ["Eh… That's… Orchiectomy…" "Hey, Tsubaki-chan, do you know what an orchiectomy is?" Alex's voice, in English.-
[02:34] <Dorian> ["Something to do with whales."]
[02:37] <Dorian> "Question two: Whose authors' words would I have just read about if I had just read about the Zone of Proximal Development?"
[02:45] * Aline …just… froze. "Eh…?" She looked to her compatriots with -utter confusion- on her face.
[02:48] <Yanmei> "Psychology, but… erm…" she hesitated. "Either it's that German guy or that Russian guy."
[02:51] * Yanmei put the pencil to the paper. "Let's just say it's the Russian?"
[02:51] * Aline slowly nodded. "I… guess so."
[02:52] * Sept seems to be trying to communicate via blinking in Morse code.
[02:55] <Yanmei> 'Lev Vygotsky' appears on the paper. Also, Sept's blinking earned a slight stare
[02:57] * Aline …shook her head, really, at all these shenanigans.
[02:57] <Dorian> "Question three. From what part of the heart does the aorta stem from?"
[03:03] * Aline smiled. "It's the left…"
[03:03] <Sept> "The… aorta." Sept stared into the distance for several moments, unmoving, before slowly and quietly muttering "left…" The rest was inaudible.
[03:03] * Yanmei nodded at them both with a smile and added that answer down as well! "We're doing pretty well, huh?"
[03:04] <Aline> "I'm surprised, but we actually are! We might even be able to pull a win out of this one!"
[03:04] <Dorian> "Question four. First mentioned by Schopenhauer and Sigmund Freud, this famous analogy is used to describe the challenges of human intimacy, related to the mutual harm humans inflict in relationships."
[03:05] <Dorian> [Dr. Castillo-Delgado snickered.]
[03:12] * Aline smirked. "Ah, hedgehog's dilemma. Not that common to hear but… Even so…" For some reason, Shinji came to mind. She didn't know why, really, he didn't even have a sense of mutual harm with her.
[03:14] <Yanmei> "Yeah," said Yanmei brightly, writing it down. "I remember that too. It was the title of a song I once heard…"
[03:16] <Dorian> "Question five. What part of my body would be being monitored if I had an electroencephalography?"
[03:19] * Aline instantly snapped into answer mode~ "The head, to monitor brain activity~ After all, the best mollusks on earth are cephalopods, headfeet, you see!" So she wrote down 'The brain, via the head.'.
[03:21] * Yanmei is too busy gaping at the question to respond, and surrendered the paper and pencil without resistance
[03:25] <Dorian> "And finally, the hint for the bonus question… My favourite flowers are lilacs."
[03:26] <Yanmei> "Wait, what?" Yanmei started flush pink.
[03:27] * Aline blinked. "…Lilacs?…" Then, Yanmei's reaction! "…Wait… do you… are you…?
[03:28] <Dorian> [From the Bunny table, Marianne suddenly grinned.]
[03:29] <Sept> "Hm? …oh. Oh! Uh, try not to attract any attention!" Sera was apparently doing it for her just fine.
[03:29] <Yanmei> "So…" She didn't quite fidget. "I'm not really sure how they got that information? I think maybe they hit up Marianne for it." She the tried to eye the Bunny table suspiciously without looking suspicious herself.
[03:30] * Aline blinked. "…To… wait. To Yanmei knowing the answer?" Aline couldn't actually tell if she was getting it right or not. Instead, she cast a wider gaze, over to the other teams…
[03:31] * Yanmei sighed and gestured for Aline to hand her the paper so that she could contribute the answer.
[03:31] * Aline did so gratefully - if confusedly.
[03:33] <Yanmei> The answer written: "Zhang Yanmei"
[03:33] <Dorian> ["Lilacs…?" Asuka frowned, folding her arms. "They're such a -weedy- flower…"-
[03:33] <Dorian> [Alex, however, was staring at Marianne intensely.]
[03:34] <Dorian> [The answers are gathered up! Dorian looks at the sheets, nodding his head slowly. A grin passes his face. He looks up at Yanmei.-
[03:35] <Dorian> [Yanmei now knows what a mouse feels like when it sees a hungry, hungry kitty.-
[03:35] <Dorian> "So! Answer time." Says Dorian, still grinning a -fun- little grin. "What part of the body would I be missing if I had an orchiectomy? A testicle, of course!"-
[03:36] <Dorian> "Second question: Whose authors' words would I have just read about if I had just read about the Zone of Proximal Development? Why, none other than Lev Vygotsky!"-
[03:37] * Yanmei stared back blankly. Wh-what was with that expression all of a sudden?! Was he planning something? He was!
[03:37] <Dorian> "Third: From what part of the heart does the aorta stem from? The left ventricle, of course."-
[03:38] <Dorian> "First mentioned by Schopenhauer and Sigmund Freud, this famous analogy is used to describe the challenges of human intimacy, related to the mutual harm humans inflict in relationships? The Hedgehog's or Porcupine's Dilemma! Aha, I see you grinning, Felix.-
[03:38] <Dorian> "And finally, What part of my body would be being monitored if I had an electroencephalography? A brain!" Dorian grinned.-
[03:39] <Dorian> "And I would like to let you all know that three teams won the Bonus Question this round. The answer, of course, was Zhang Yanmei, who is famous, loves chicken curry, likes lilacs, and the last hint- is unmarried." Dorian snickered.-
[03:39] <Dorian> "So those three teams- Team Bunnies, Team International, Team Pilots, you've all won…" His grin grew wider.-
[03:39] <Dorian> "A holiday to the French Riviera!"
[03:40] <Dorian> "In the summertime, of course."
[03:40] * Aline …tilted her head. "Un…married. That's certainly…" She peeeeered at Yanmei. Then peeeeeered at Dorian, more significantly. But then? Shrug~ "Oh well, beach trip is beach trip~"
[03:43] <Sept> "…it sure is." Sera's voice didn't even have to betray the dread. There was no question about it being there.
[03:43] <Yanmei> "Why was my marital status a hint?" But! They got to go to the French Riviera! But it was with Team International… She eyed them, Alexandre in particular, and then groaned. "Maybe they'll make them seperate trips?"
[03:44] <Dorian> "Together!" Added Dorian with -perfect- timing that suggested he'd been waiting for that -one- comment.
[03:46] * Aline snapped her fingers. "Should've expected that from the start, Yan-Yan."
[03:46] <Yanmei> "Godda- Ah. Isn't that lovely?" She tried to smile, nearly forgetting that she was in the company of a lot of people.
[03:48] <Dorian> [There was a smattering of polite applause. The winners were being eyed rather jealously by the 9 people who -hadn't- won.]
[03:50] <Dorian> "Alright. Are we ready for round 4?"
[03:50] * Aline nodded, knowing that this would be the final stretch, and many teams' comeback rounds, at that.
[03:53] <Dorian> "Alright. So, NERV questions!" Dorian grinned.-
[03:55] <Dorian> "First question. What are the three names of the three MAGI Supercomputers that make up MAGI 01?"
[03:59] * Aline shook her head. "…I always think of it as just a whole…"
[04:00] <Yanmei> "Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, I think it was…"
[04:00] * Aline grinned. "…Hindu mythology. Iiinteresting."
[04:01] <Yanmei> "A little strange if you ask me? But…" she wrote it down.
[04:02] <Dorian> "Question 2: From what poem is NERV's motto drawn from, and who was the author? I need both names."
[04:07] <Yanmei> "NERV has a motto?"
[04:08] <Aline> "Yeah, that whole 'god in heaven right in world'… thing. You haven't heard all the parodies? Like how our furniture products are supposed to have the motto 'Peg's in its hole, all is right in the world'?" She seemed to find it funny, really. "…No idea about the poem. I thought they just made it up on the spot to go with all the other religious symbology."
[04:10] <Sept> "…lark's on the wing, the snail's on the thorn. God's in his Heaven, all's right with the world. Robert Browning. Pippa Passes." Sera looked at Yanmei and Aline in turn, saying nothing more.
[04:11] <Aline> "… … … ……" The silence was almost audible. Like you could hear each individual ellipsis rolling by through the air, dots three-by-three.
[04:11] <Yanmei> "Well done, de Pteres!" She beamed at him. "At least one of us was paying attention."
[04:13] <Dorian> "Question 3: Which is the first Production Model Evangelion, and why does it bear that designation?"
[04:18] * Aline thought… "…00's the Prototype Model. 01's Test Model. So that must mean 02's the first Production… Okay, because they already finished testing with the first two?" Aline shrugged semi-helplessly.
[04:22] <Yanmei> "Well… it's more like they perfected the problems in the first two models. It's as simple as that~" She started writing again.
[04:23] <Dorian> "Question four. In the event of Commander Fontaine's death, to which NERV Director does official NERV control pass to? -Official-."
[04:32] * Aline thought… "But isn't Thomas the vi-… vice. not actual. So… uh… I need a sec."
[04:35] <Aline> "…Wait. Other director… NERV Japan is the one I've heard the most of… Ah! Gendou Ikari. That family sure gets around."
[04:36] <Sept> "That… makes sense, I guess. If they basically have the same title, doesn't that mean they come before the vice commanders..?"
[04:37] <Yanmei> "I guess so? The whole hierarchy's pretty confusing." She brightened a little. "It'd be neat if they passed down the power of command to one of us, though?"
[04:38] * Aline twiiitched. "We don't have enough time to handle command."
[04:40] <Dorian> "Question five… What does it mean, by NERV's Charter of Rights and Responsibilities, if the Director of NERV institutes an Imperative One Situation?"
[04:42] <Yanmei> "Come on, it would be fun! Having all of NERV France at your beck and call. Sipping drinks in your office. Don't you want to sit in the Commander's chair for one day, Blanc?" The next question. She thought about it. "No idea~"
[04:43] * Aline shook her head. "No idea on this question either, but… No. I don't want that! I mean it might be a comfy chair, but I don't want to be commander…" She crossed her arms. "Power over people is your dream, Yanmei. I'll settle for power over reality~"
[04:46] <Dorian> [The question seemed to have an odd effect on those who did, apparently, know. They sort of shifted uncomfortably, as though Dorian had said something rather offensive.]
[04:51] <Sept> "Imperative One…" Sept fell into a deep silence again, looking… a bit sad. "NERV has complete authority over Paris-2 and all military personnel and assets within the region. Everyone else is evacuated. Martial law. Ghost city."
[04:51] * Aline seemed to not be quite as fazed. "…Ah. Okay."
[04:53] <Yanmei> "Well, that's a little depressing? Military Ghost city…"
[04:53] <Aline> "Ideally, that'd only be declared if something really horrible had to happen. Like an N2 strike or… something else." She shuddered. "Or if the Angel is just about to win."
[04:54] <Sept> "…if we failed, you mean."
[04:55] <Dorian> "Since the answer to the Bonus has already been solved, who would like me to read out other fascinating and juicy facts about Zhang Yanmei~?"
[04:55] * Aline turned to Sera. "…Same difference." Then… Then… "Objection… why are these facts juicy? What are you trying to pull here?"
[04:56] <Yanmei> "Thank you, Major, but that's not necessary!" She was trying very hard not to glare openly at him, retaining a pleasant smile… for now.
[04:57] <Dorian> ["… I could stand to hear a little more." Said Alexandre silkily.-
[04:57] <Dorian> "Hahahaha. No no. That won't be necessary. I was merely teasing the good pilot." Said Dorian, winking at Yanmei and Aline.-
[04:59] <Dorian> "Anyway. Answer time…" The answers are collected, and Dorian flips through them. "Hmm… Ok! So, question one. What are the three names of the three MAGI Supercomputers that make up MAGI 01? The answers are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the Hindu gods of creation, preservation and destruction."-
[05:01] <Dorian> "Question two. From what poem is NERV's motto drawn from, and who was the author? The answer, of course, was 'Pippa passes', but Robert Browning."-
[05:03] <Dorian> "Question three. Which is the first Production Model Evangelion, and why does it bear that designation? EVA-02, because 00 and 01 are a prototype and a test type, and 02 is assumed to have none of the flaws."-
[05:03] * Aline braced for it. She could feel it in her bones.
[05:04] <Dorian> ["That's right! The perfect EVA, piloted by the perfect Asuka~"]
[05:04] <Aline> Bingo. "What a strange one…"
[05:04] <Dorian> "Question four. In the event of Commander Fontaine's death, to which NERV Director does official NERV control pass to?" Dorian grinned. "Some of you got a bit confused, I see. Yes, Vice-Commander Thomas takes control in an emergency, but once the emergency is over, control passes to…"-
[05:05] <Dorian> "Ikari Gendo, Director of NERV 01 in Tokyo-2. Whose wife is in Team Science, by the way!" Dorian gave Dr. Ikari a nod before continuing. Dr. Ikari merely smiled.-
[05:05] <Dorian> "And finally, question five… Ah, yes. What does it mean, by NERV's Charter of Rights and Responsibilities, if the Director of NERV institutes an Imperative One Situation?" Dorian paused for a moment.-
[05:06] <Dorian> "An Imperative One situation immediately transfers control of the entire administrative region the HQ is based in to NERV command. All military units are immediately placed under the authority of NERV. All civilian governing bodies are immediately disbanded.-
[05:07] <Dorian> "Martial law is in place, and all civilians are to be evacuated." A pause. "Imperative One situations are used when the threshold for NERV's total destruction- the destruction of every Evangelion, the destruction of the Geofront, and the destruction of NERV HQ…"-
[05:07] <Dorian> "Passes 90%."
[05:12] <Sept> "Well. That went pretty well, don't you think?"
[05:13] <Yanmei> "Could have been worse? Plus we got a free vacation out of it."
[05:14] <Dorian> [Freya stepped over to Dorian, mumbling something. Dorian nodded.-
[05:14] <Dorian> "Scores! Right, I nearly forgot. Who wants to hear the scores?"
[05:16] <Aline> "We're going to want to know them anyway, right? Drop 'em, 'kay?"
[05:18] <Dorian> "From the bottom. In last place, on 34 points- Team Security!"
[05:19] <Dorian> [Jeanne leaned back, steepling her fingers. The other spooks had the good decency to look humbly pleased.]
[05:22] <Dorian> "Tying for last place… Team Bunnies!"
[05:23] <Dorian> ["Hah. You owe me 10 francs, Sophie." "We didn't come in last place, we're tied!" "Still counts." "Gr…."]
[05:24] <Dorian> "In third place, on 38 points- Team Medicine!"
[05:26] <Dorian> [There was much patting on the backs in that team. They'd put in a good show.]
[05:26] <Dorian> "Tied for 2nd place, on 46 points… Team Pilots and Team International!"
[05:28] * Aline stood up from her seat, and beamed a bit… Oh, and rolling her shoulders in a -very- luxuriant stretch. Victory was delicious. Almost as delicious as her favorite crepes…
[05:29] <Dorian> ["Y-" Asuka went to pump her fist in the air… Only to stop. "Wait, -tied-?" She frowned. "Urgh, that's- not fair! Having to share the limelight with those… Second rates…"]
[05:29] * Sept smiled and waved at Alexandre and Asuka.
[05:29] <Dorian> ["Chill, Asuka." Said Alexandre lazily. "Don't start a fight." He waved a hand over at Sept, giving the boy a solid nod.]
[05:30] <Dorian> [Of course, one particular team was looking very pleased…-
[05:30] <Dorian> "And on first place, with 48 points- nearly a perfect score… Team Science!"
[05:31] * Aline gave a very healthy wave over to them. Yay Yui's team~ Yay science~
[05:31] <Yanmei> "Not at all surprising?" Yanmei leaned back in her seat a bit, seeming to relax.
[05:34] <Dorian> "Well, well." Said Dorian cheerfully. "A good, solid result, and a good game. Well done to you all." He said. "Now, I believe we have one last challenge left, and that's the wildcard, which the MAGI has decided upon…" He looked down at a sheet of paper.-
[05:36] <Dorian> "A scavenger hunt." Said Dorian. "Hidden all over NERV HQ are dozens of plush toys of EVAs 00 through to 04. I'll explain the rules inside. C'mon, everyone!"
[05:41] * Yanmei stood a with a fair amount of wobbling, and tossed her hair with a yawn. It wasn't quite as painful as it had been before, but walking was going to be tricky for a while.
[05:41] * Aline …stared. "…Interesting…" And she perhaps realized that she had all the scavenger-fu of a petunia. That is to say, no actual training or talent.
[05:42] <Sept> "Oooh. This sounds interesting." By now, Sera would know the HQ like the back of his hand. Or, well. The EVA Hangar. At least the immediate vicinity of 01. And the janitor's closets, of course.
[05:44] <Dorian> [It would be at this point that the external speakers of NERV HQ crackled to life. "M-Major!" Came a panicky, hysterical woman's voice. "M-M-Major! P-Please, please come quickly…" "Angelique?" Said Dorian, surprised. "Calm down. What's wrong?" "B-blood, there's- There's blood, it's- it's everywhere-" "Angelique, what happened?!" "C-Commander… C-Commander Fontaine, she's… She's dead…!"]
[20:25] <Sept> "W-what?" Sera stared, frozen, mouth open.
[20:26] * Aline seemed a lot more… impassive. In fact… She muttered a quote (In English, to give proper due to the source material). "The game is afoot."
[20:27] <Yanmei> "…" Yanmei glanced around, seemingly trying to figure out how to react based on everyone else. This was a joke, right? Nothing that unexpected could possibly happen…? Not on a day like today!
[20:27] <Dorian> [The crowd was very, very still. There were low murmurs here and there, but… Mostly just stillness.-
[20:28] <Dorian> [Alexandre had been standing completely stock-still. For a moment, his face resembled that of Sept's perfectly, before he looked over at Dorian, his eyes narrowing.-
[20:29] <Dorian> ["What's happening, Dorian?" Asked Alexandre, his voice- contrary to expectation, not lined with worry or shock, but ice cold with unsaid, but nevertheless promised punishments.]
[20:33] <Dorian> ["Is something happening?" Asked Tsubaki in English, her tone baffled and detached. Asuka, her once-energetic face drained of such enthusiasm, gave Tsubaki a look and a curt shake of the head.]
[20:35] * Sept had no established protocol for this, and instead relied on the closest beacon of normalcy. "A-Aline..? What do we do?"
[20:37] * Aline almost-smugly gestured, finger straight-forward in determination and… well, self-assuredness. "Simple. We become detectives."
[20:39] <Yanmei> "Become detectives," Yanmei gave her a blank stare. "Instead of, say, grieving?"
[20:39] <Dorian> [At this point, Alexandre had stalked forward towards Dorian, grabbing the man by the collar and pulling him forward. "I swear to God, Dorian, if I find out this is some kind of -bullshit stunt- I will ensure you need more than a wheelchair."]
[20:39] <Dorian> "Put me down, boy!"
[20:40] <Sept> "Det… right. We need to figure out what h-happened." At least it was -a- purpose for his mind to grasp on to. But why were coherent thoughts suddenly so hard to come by? "How do we do that?"
[20:42] * Aline nodded. "If my suspicions are correct, anyway. Think about the timing, Yan-Yan." Theeeen she turned back to Sera. "Well, first things first, we get over there. Forensics starts at the crime scene."
[20:46] <Sept> "Mmh. Okay." Sera nodded at the plan. He was a bit pale, but didn't at least look like he was getting worse.
[20:46] <Dorian> ["Major Lachapelle." Came a sudden, -incredibly- frosty voice over the PA, made even worse because the speaker was supposed to be dead. "I do not recall giving you permission to stage my death for these games. I do not recall you asking me in the first place for my permission. I would suggest that you ensure I do recall such actions in the future." The PA fell silent.]
[20:48] * Aline was now finally surprised. "…Of all the interesting ways to be proven right."
[20:48] * Yanmei suddenly seemed -incredibly- interested in the goings on between Dorian and Alexandre. "Hold on a moment? It looks like we might have another murder case on our hands."
[20:49] * Dorian had his hand on Alexandre's wrist, trying to tug it off- the boy had turned his head toward Central Dogma, listening intensely to the announcement.-
[20:50] * Aline tsked slightly. "Now now, it's not really a case until it's already happened." Thankfully(???), Dorian occupied a grey area wherein he was respected, but not quite beloved… thus was still eligible for her entertainment vis a vis whatever revenge Alexandre wanted to exact. Now this was starting to get closer to -fun-!
[20:52] <Dorian> [Alexandre really was shaking now. He turned his gaze back to Dorian, and without pausing, punched him - hard- with his free hand. Dorian growled in sudden pain. "You son of a bitch." Said Alexandre, his voice choked- and pained. "This is- that's just… Sick." He released Dorian, pushing the man back into his chair, before stalking off back to Asuka and Tsubaki.]
[20:52] * Sept welped at the announcement, and looked around confuscared for a few moments as his brain caught up. "Should we… stop them?"
[20:53] * Dorian groaned, rubbing his face. There didn't seem to be any lasting damage, but a punch to the face always hurts.
[20:53] * Aline paused. Considered. "Naaaaah."
[20:53] * Yanmei patted Sept lightly on the shoulder. "I think that's about as bad as it will get? Don't worry so much."
[20:54] <Dorian> ["Eh? You're still going to compete, Alex?" "Yes. Even though this is was an obscene trick, I'm not going to storm off and abandon you and Tsubaki…" "Well, we could probably win without you, you know." "Mmf."]
[20:56] <Sept> "Don't worry so much?! I— I almost!" Sera gestured wildly, unable to voice whatever it was he was trying to. He gave up, and rested his face on a hand. "I don't even know…"
[20:58] <Dorian> [There were, at this point, a mixture of relieved murmurs, some shocked ones ("Ah, he just slugged the Major in the face!" "… Well, he did deserve it, Sophie…") and a few were even slightly amused. ("To think that I'd let some murderer slip through my men and kill the Commander… It's almost an insult.")]
[21:00] * Aline was, actually, rather surprised at how Sera was acting. Poor kid was usually floating off in his own little world, so to see him actually show such concern was surprising indeed. "…Either way, I guess we'll end up having to figure out what, if anything, they're going to do to salvage the scenario now that it's sort of… deflated on them."
[21:01] <Dorian> "A-anyway." Dorian rubbed his hands, trying to take back the momentum. "Let's proceed to the inside cafeteria. There, I'll explain the details of the… yes, the Murder Mystery game. Sorry about the decoy. There will be no Evangelion plush toys to be found." Dorian starts to head off toward the entrance.
[21:02] * Aline slightly frowned. "A pity, I would've wanted to at least see what a superdeformed, cuddly version of 02 and 03 looked like." …But, she soldiered on anyway~
[21:02] * Yanmei on the other hand felt vaguely disgusted, given the object of his concern. She sighed beneath her carefully calm expression. She followed.
[21:04] * Sept was mostly calmed down now, if depressed. Wordlessly and without energy, he followed the others.
[21:07] <Dorian> [The crowd follow Dorian inside, Alexandre looking like a little stormcloud. Upon reaching their destination, Dorian claps his hands, summoning the helpers to him. He gives them a handful of cards.-
[21:12] <Dorian> "I'm giving you all three special decks of cards." Said Dorian, his smile starting to return. "The three decks are: Suspects, Weapon, and Motive. There are ten suspects, eight weapons and six motives. Now, the aim of the game is, via a process of elimination and through good old detective work, pick a combination of all three to decide who the murderer was."
[21:12] <Dorian> [Freya approaches Team Pilots, giving the decks to Aline and Yanmei. That done, she turns to Sept, frowning in concern. "Everything ok, Sept?"]
[21:14] * Aline was, by dint of apparently being the one least emotionally invested, the one apparently trying the most to listen - and taking the cards for that matter.
[21:19] <Sept> The sight of Freya did bring some further comfort to the pilot, but he was still quite obviously distraught. "Yeah…"
[21:32] <Dorian> "Now. You all have your cards. Somewhere out there is a murderer!" Says Dorian, his showmanship shining again. "The murderer might be anyone on that deck… It might even be one of you. That one of you knows who they are. If the correct combination is not submitted within 1 hour… That person's team wins 30 points. The first team to submit the correct answer wins 20 points!"
[21:35] * Aline continued to listen quietly, pondering her gameplan, as it were.
[21:35] * Yanmei was close enough to at least spot a few of the cards. "04 did it," she decided without hesitation. "Can't figure out the weapon? Motivation should be pretty obvious, though. Lock it up and throw away the key."
[21:36] * Aline frowned. "It's not going to be that simple. I know you have your reasons, but this is a game, after all…"
[21:37] <Yanmei> "Fine." She sighed. "You want to go through this methodically?"
[21:38] * Aline nodded. "That'd be the key to it, yes. Just in case something unusual presents itself."
[21:38] <Dorian> "There will, of course, be clues around the rooms, in the Command Centre, in the Barracks, in the Guest Quarters, the Evangelion Cages, the Science Hall and the Medical Ward." Dorian clapped his hands. "Let the last game commence!"
[21:39] * Aline suddenly hit on an idea. "…Clues in rooms… Sera! Do you think you're up to making a sprint through HQ to head off the other teams?"
[21:40] <Dorian> [The other teams started to file out. Asuka shot Sept a look and what could only be described as a gesture of challenge. "We'll get those points, Fifth Child- you just watch me and learn!"]
[21:40] <Sept> "Uh, I'm not sure what exactly I'd be looking for…"
[21:41] * Aline twitched. "…G… You're… you're right. Uh. I guess we should hit the closest one first together, just to know what to look for!"
[21:48] <Yanmei> "Suppose we take the first area together, just to figure out what we're looking for, and then split up after that to save time?" Yanmei suggested. "We could regroup after a certain time. Say, a half-hour?"
[21:52] * Aline nodded. "Wise. Or when we've all finished checking every area. There's six, so we meet in one, each of us gets another on our own, an extra is thrown to one of us, and… we meet again at the last. Eh?"
[21:54] <Yanmei> "A lovely idea," smiled Yanmei, starting forward. Let's see. The closest area was…
[21:54] * Sept shook his head and sighed. "…no, we're just looking for anything that's out of the ordinary, right? We should try to go all-out and try to win, since that's what the others are probably up to, and just trust we find enough information on one sweep to figure this out..?"
[22:01] <Yanmei> "If you're sure we know what constitutes as 'out of the ordinary'… it certainly would save time to do it that way?" She paused, looking down at her watch. "So we each take two areas, and meet back here when we're finished. I don't mind doing the two living quarters."
[22:03] * Aline nodded. "I'll take science and medical. I figure I'll be able to get a good idea of what it all looks like, to know what something out of place would be."
[22:04] <Sept> "I can start with the cages then, move onto the command centre. Let's do our best, shall we?" The boy sounded like he was trying very hard to convince himself.
[22:07] <Yanmei> "Right." Yanmei nodded. "You'll be fine, de Pteres. You spend enough time by the cages to know what they look like normally? I have lots of faith in you."
[22:09] <Sept> "Thanks. Me too. I mean." …and he was off.
[22:10] * Aline nodded. "Right! Time to quickly resolve everything." …And so too was Aline off~
[00:40] <Dorian> [The cafeteria! At this point, Aline and Yanmei have both arrived back… With no Sept.]
[00:40] * Aline waved to Yanmei! "Find any -interesting clues-?"
[00:42] <Yanmei> "Hello, Blanc. I did indeed~" She smiled, taking a seat across from her. "Can you say 'armory checkout list'? Also, I hate to say it, but things look curiously bad. for Dr. Ikari."
[00:43] * Aline nodded. "And I found a clue talking about how she did an activation test at 11am, and that the body had bullet wounds~"
[00:48] <Yanmei> "Huh. That eliminates Gosselin? He was the last person who checked into the armory, but the only things he could have taken out with him were melee weapons." She shut her eyes. "On the other hand? Our other suspects include Simon, who likely checked out and returned a suspicious sniper rifle, the VC, and Ikari, who had a stolen revolver in her room."
[00:50] * Aline nodded. "Mmm. From the looks of it, the sort of strange activity Yui was said to have made… well, might do as much to exonerate her as convict her. She was clearly busy with the activation tests from 11 to 11:10. Though I find it a bit odd for a multiple-wound sniper attack…"
[00:51] <Yanmei> "Multiple wounds?" Yanmei blinked. "Like… say the sort an assault rifle would make?"
[00:52] * Aline nodded. "Mayhaps. Either way, it makes a sniper look just stupid. I know enough from the railgun that you make those things count."
[00:56] * Yanmei closed her eyes again. "The sniper rifle… may have been handled by someone who wasn't an expert? When I said it was suspicious, I meant that it was still loaded when it was returned. I don't think someone experienced with NERV's gun-handling policies would do that? Plus, Simon left the barracks awfully late. Around 11:40 am? If the attack took place before then…"
[01:03] <Yanmei> "No…" Yanmei shook her head. "When I think about it, it couldn't have been the sniper rifle. That was returned at 11:10? Well before Simon left. If she was the culprit, that is."
[01:05] * Aline nodded. "…Indeed. Then… well, a lot of things are looking at an assault rifle, or that revolver. Either way, we're relatively down on suspects, which is good."
[01:32] * Sept finally arrived to the party, fashionably late! He was a man/child of his word, however, and headed for the counter of the cafeteria to commandeer a milkshake while motioning for Aline and Yanmei to join him.
[01:34] <Dorian> [He is not alone, of course. Akagi Tsubaki has returned, following him loyally!]
[01:35] * Aline found the addition of Tsubaki to be… interesting. But since she was neither Alexandre nor Asuka, she's let it slide. Tsubaki was thoroughly unintimidating. Even so, she got up~ "…So. How'd it… go?"
[01:35] * Aline briefly had a moment of self-consciousness, and repeated it in English.
[01:37] <Dorian> [Sept also is given a milkshake. It is strawberry.]
[01:38] * Yanmei also joined them… although she looked a touch more irritated about it. "Honestly…"
[01:41] <Sept> "Remote testing at 1100, act just before 1110, moti—thank you, definite ideological disagreement, gunfire, suspect is a founding member or at least as veteran a member as Ginevre." Sipping on his milkshake between exhausted breaths, Sera let the words hang in the air, for the others to use.
[01:44] * Aline slowly nodded. "Ah. Then we know enough, probably, to clinch it with our other information." That was in French. She did, though… switch to English. "I don't mean to be rude, but why are you here? Your team get to be too much to bear, or something?" Clearly directed at Tsubaki.
[01:47] <Yanmei> "We've narrowed down the suspects based on the weapons they were last seen with," Yanmei explained to Sept. French, of course. "We're thinking it's likely Ikari or the Vice Commander? Either one could have done it with the right motives."
[01:49] <Dorian> [Tsubaki is staring at Sept and his milkshake, wondering when she'll get hers. She's vaguely aware of Aline's question, and she turns her head a little. "No. Brother is nice."]
[01:50] * Sept cut in before any reactions. "It's alright", he simply said.
[01:56] <Sept> "…I think I might lean toward Ikari, though. There was yelling about "us" and "sacrificial lambs"… maybe she was referring to the entire japanese wing of the organisation? But… was Ikari really involved since the beginning?"
[01:57] * Aline slowly nodded to Tsubaki… then turned to Sera to continue the French STRATEGY TALK. "Yes, she was. She helped make the Evangelions. She was part of Gehirn, which predated NERV. So… Yes, it fits very well."
[01:58] <Yanmei> "Um, what's the Japanese wing sacrificing anyway? It's not like they've been doing much of the real fighting yet?"
[02:00] * Aline shrugged. "Not to break immersion, but there had to be some losses in continuity in setting up the scenario. You should ask Dr. Leclerc in medical about that sometime." She actually winked, after that.
[02:48] * Yanmei stared blankly at that wink and remark, and then pulled out a napkin and scribbled a few things down on it - a timeline. And thus a discussion of the suspects began in more detail.
[02:49] <Sept> Facts were collected and compared. Finally, a few definite plans of actions were left standing. Three, in fact.
[02:51] * Aline made her arguments and suggestions… and they began to move, to their final destination (No items. Pilots only.)
[02:53] <Dorian> [Tsubaki headed off after Sept.]

[03:41] * Sept was the first back at the cafeteria. His investigation had come up a dead end, and Tsubaki had been shanghaied. Sera searched for solace in milkshake.
[03:42] * Aline on the other hand had clinched everything neatly. "Good news, people!~ I eliminated enough to give us our verdict~"
[03:44] <Yanmei> "Such a gloomy expression, de Pteres," Yanmei sauntered in with a little smile of her own. "Things are looking up! And did you, Blanc?"
[03:45] * Aline nodded, lowering her tone slightly. There might be -spies-. "Verified the gun was planted. All 6 rounds chambered… and while Clement never even went to the office, Thomas got there at around 11:15, and said he had something 'private' to deliver. Couldn't see anything but the gun that was odd, so pretty sure it's him who did it."
[03:48] <Yanmei> "Hm, interesting. Looks like he's our man?" Yanmei took a seat. "I managed to confirm that it was a male who was yelling during the shooting. And that he fired three shots, knocking the Commander from a higher perch onto the command center floor. The number of bullets missing from the revolver…?"
[03:52] <Sept> "Nothing missing. But otherwise, sounds pretty good. The doctor has an alibi, as expected."
[03:53] * Aline nodded. "…Three shots, close… No, it's not the sniper. So it has to be our mystery assault rifle. We have it. We have everything. We are -good to go-."
[03:53] <Yanmei> "Well done, everyone!" Yanmei beamed. "It looks like we've wrapped up this case!"
[03:54] <Sept> "But at what cost…" muttered Sera under his breath.
[03:54] <Dorian> "Oh, really now?" Came a voice from the doorway. Just when they think they were alone, when suddenly DORIAN appears.
[03:55] * Aline slow turn. "Yeah. Really."
[03:56] <Dorian> "Well well. Do go on."
[03:56] * Aline nodded to Yanmei. "Let's have the diplomat declare."
[03:57] * Sept nodded. The parlor scene wasn't his to lead.
[03:59] <Yanmei> "We've deduced that the culprit was the Vice Commander by process of elimination and a careful analysis of various alibis spoken of by witnesses and recorded in classified documents. Witnesses at the shooting itself confirm that the attacker was male, was in a position to gain or bypass authorization required for carrying a weapon into the most secured parts of headquarters, and that he fired three shots during the attack itself."-
[04:04] <Yanmei> "We were nearly thrown off by a revolver that was planted in the room of Dr Ikari, as well as her possible motives for the murder. However, her alibis seemed legitimate, and it was more likely that the weapon was planted in her room specifically to throw people off the true trail. An examination of the revolver confirmed that it was likely another weapon, and we knew from the crime scene and the autopsy that Fontaine had been done it by a firearm, so
[04:05] <Yanmei> Fontaine had been done in by a firearm, so that left the sniper rifle or the auto rifle."-
[04:07] <Yanmei> "The sniper rifle was the least likely of the three firearms used due to its early return to the Armory, so that left the auto rifle, which was still unaccounted for. And that, dear Major, is how we solved the case." She could take a breath now, and did so with immense pleasure.
[04:08] <Dorian> "So… Leon Thomas, with the assault rifle, but what motive?"
[04:09] <Sept> "Ideological disagreement, unwillingness to become sacrificial livestock", Sera cut in, swirling his milkshake around in the glass.
[04:10] <Yanmei> "That's right! Ideological Differences, as confirmed by the witnesses to the crime scene, who heard yelling in line with an arguement about NERV's foundations and its current direction."
[04:10] <Dorian> "Hmm… Hmm… And hmm… Are you -sure- it wasn't President Mazarin, with the Sniper Rifle, via his arcane presidential powers?"
[04:11] * Aline nodded. "Mm-hm. Pretty clearly that, and not any other. The whole 'did it for the top score' one is a bit too meta, and I think the prime holder of that wasn't on the list." Aline can (not) conceal her dislike.
[04:11] * Sept found himself snickering despite himself.
[04:12] <Dorian> "Well well." Dorian snickered, taking off his shades. "I guess I have an announcement to make, don't I? Well done, boy and girls. You've just won the game."
[04:12] <Aline> "Yay~" Plain and simple.
[04:14] * Yanmei settled back in her chair with a pleasant, satisfied smile.
[04:19] <Dorian> [Time passes. The teams start to file back in after Dorian made an announcement that a team had given the correct answer. Within 10 minutes, everyone had arrived.-
[04:21] <Dorian> "Well well. I hope you all had -fun-, then?" Asked Dorian, grinning evilly at everyone. "It's been a long, eventful day. But, I'm pleased to say, we've come to an end, with the Pilot Team giving us the correct and final answer- Vice Commander Thomas, with an assault rifle, over ideological differences! Let's hear a round of applause for our sleuthing saviours!"-
[04:23] <Dorian> [There were, indeed, rounds of applause! Most of it was good natured, but Asuka was eyeing Team Pilots with a mix of wariness and aggravation. She had, rather notably, burst into the cafeteria a minute and a half after the Team, shouting out the answer… Then saw Sept, Aline and Yanmei and realised it'd been in vain. She wasn't too pleased.-
[04:24] <Dorian> "Which means… That we do, in fact, have a winner." Said Dorian, grinning. "On 79 points: Team Pilots have won the Quarterly NERV Interdivisional, Interoperational Games! Come up, come up, and receive your prize, winners!"
[04:25] * Yanmei was happy to smile and wave at the applause. The prize was something she was a little more wary about, however, allowing the others to approach and recieve it first.
[04:28] * Sept followed the rest of the team, trying to blend into the background and not to attract attention… in his camouflaged outfit, all the while sipping the last of his milkshake. It was, overall, a decent enough Tsubaki impression.
[04:30] * Aline stood up, moving forward as the one person who seemed to be honestly taking the prize!… And glancing towards Asuka. Not a taunting one, but a 'hmmmmm' glance. Now, what was our magical prize?~
[04:31] <Dorian> [Asuka stared back, before tossing her head and looking towards Alex. So what if she lost some stupid mystery? She was still the best pilot of them all, no questions asked.-
[04:32] <Dorian> The three winners received, first and foremost, a small gold trophy each, about 8 inches high. And, in each cup was, of course, a rare, limited-edition Evangelion plush toy, matching up with the pilot in question. They were of a far higher quality than the ones made by Patrice Gosselin's lot.-
[04:33] <Dorian> And finally, they all won movie passes, to as many movies as they wanted, for two months… And once-a-week free visits to a series of -very- exclusive restaurants.
