Komm Susser Tod 2 2a

[15:02] <Minaplo> [Once the others marched out of the room, Yanmei was left with Surov, Sarasvati and Raphael. There were things to discuss, apparently…-
[15:02] <Minaplo> ["Zhang." Surov turned towards her and Raphael.]
[15:04] * Raphael takes the opportunity to give Sarasvati a small smile. He's only heard minimal information about the girl, but the fact that she's Surov's daughter - in a sense - at least explains her presence.
[15:05] <Yanmei> "Surov." She tried to give off a prim air as she folded her hands on the table, but there was still a hint of wariness to her, as if she was expecting some more bad news.
[15:08] <Minaplo> [Sarasvati gives him a warm smile in return, fixing him with those large, vivid green eyes. She blinks slowly once.-
[15:09] <Minaplo> ["It is about the Ayanami spy Caine sent to us in the guise of Roku. The one we have decided to call 'June'. Her LCL was undamaged during the battle, and I can begin the reincorporisation process. However, the process itself can take up to a month and some equipment that could increase the chances of a successful reincorporisation is damaged or destroyed."]
[15:12] * Yanmei wasn't sure if she should relax or not yet. "What do you need from us in order to make it happen?"
[15:14] <Minaplo> ["I can begin the process whenever you want. It just won't be optimal."]
[15:15] * Raphael is watching closely now, his expression serious. "Can the reincorporisation be safely delayed until the correct repairs are made?"
[15:17] <Minaplo> ["Yes. As the Eden Base Incident demonstrated, so long as the LCL containing the soul is not lost or dispersed, then recovery can occur after an indefinite period."]
[15:19] * Raphael nods slowly. "The instabilities shown in some of those from Eden Base were a result of trauma and not the delay, correct?"
[15:20] <Minaplo> ["Correct."]
[15:20] * Raphael glances at Yanmei to try and gauge her reaction.
[15:23] * Yanmei was frowning a little at the mention of Eden Base. "I think we should wait, then, until we return to earth and get you set up in a proper lab. We've enough on our plates as it is right now?"
[15:25] <Raphael> "…" Raphael sighs a little, even as he nods again. "As much as I'd like to help her now, I'd have to agree. Delaying lets us prioritise matters here /and/ gives her better odds."
[15:26] <Minaplo> ["Understood." He nodded. "Optimally, the best place for reincorporisation work is the Geofront."-
[15:28] <Minaplo> ["Two more matters. Firstly is the matter of the killed Ayanamis. We have spare bodies on hand for Nana, Juu and Juuichi. Our equipment is substandard, again, but transferring the souls from the dead bodies to the spares has to be done within the next week and a half, or we risk allowing their souls to fuse back into their Evangelions, which means no more pilots. Fortunately, there is only a very small chance of mishap with our equipment."]
[15:30] <Yanmei> "Let's bring them back quickly? We can't risk losing more pilots. Maybe someday we can even get their Evas fixed up again."
[15:32] <Raphael> "Agreed." Raphael says, his voice firm.
[15:33] <Minaplo> [He nodded.-
[15:34] <Minaplo> ["Last matter. It concerns my daughter, Sarasvati. I wish to step down from my position as the chief science officer of the UEF, and for her to take my place."]
[15:34] * Raphael frowns, but remains quiet. His eyes turn towards Yanmei.
[15:36] <Yanmei> Now it was clear - she couldn't relax after all. Indeed, now Yanmei stiffened, rising a little out of her seat, both hand planted flat on the tabletop. "But why?!"
[15:37] <Minaplo> [Sarasvati reeled slightly from Yanmei's reaction, but Surov simply stared at her coolly.-
[15:40] <Minaplo> ["Practical reasons. Her capabilities are superior to my own in this regard, and thus it is only logical for you to place her in the highest position. Interpersonal reasons. I am no fool, Zhang. I understand how much everyone resents and detests me. I don't care, but I understand. Sarasvati is much more capable of handling the interpersonal than I am, and I am sure people will be more comfortable with her, due to her clean history and her pleasant countenance."-
[15:42] <Minaplo> ["Father." Sarasvati placed a hand on his, giving him a fond look. "It is because you grump all the time."-
[15:44] <Minaplo> ["Hush." He glanced back at her, smiling a little, then back at Yanmei. Smile gone. "And personal reasons. Sarasvati is the reason I am fighting on your side. Lifeforms like Sarasvati are considered extremely illegal by the United Nations. When I joined your side, it was out of the hope that through my and her contributions, she and her kind could be legitimised by the Federation. Having her act as the chief science officer would reinforce that aspect greatly."]
[15:56] <Yanmei> "I hear your reasons, but I can't make the switch just like that?" Yanmei was scowling deeply. "She may be your daughter, but she's an unknown to us - and someone who has been in Caine's care recently, in case you forgot. Give her an assistant chief position, or something with a little responsibility behind it, and when she's proven herself after a few weeks we can move her up."
[15:57] <Minaplo> ["She has been the Chief Engineer of this ship since she arrived." Said Surov coldly.]
[15:57] * Raphael is watching Yanmei's reaction with mild surprise.
[16:02] <Yanmei> "Then let's keep her in that position for a little longer. At least get people used to seeing her face and comfortable with relying on her."
[16:05] <Minaplo> ["You say that, but none of you have ever been comfortable relying on me. Why should I expect any different for my daughter?" Fury flashes across Surov's face- not just irritation or anger but a genuine murderous rage. For a moment it seems as though he may spring across the table and tear Yanmei limb from limb, but instead he pulls himself up out of his chair, kicks the chair aside, and storms towards the door. A second later he's gone.-
[16:08] <Minaplo> [Sarasvati remains sitting in her chair for a few seconds longer, staring down at her hands- before she too pulls her chair out and stands up, although she at least politely pushes both her and her father's chair in before she makes to follow.-
[16:09] <Minaplo> [Just before she walks out the door, she stops and turns. "My father gave me a full examination and could find no tampering of any kind from Caine or her people."-
[16:10] <Minaplo> ["And as your Chief Engineer, I wish to inform you that Main Engineering is operating at higher than expected levels of efficiency, and that repairs are progressing faster than estimated. Good day, Chancellor. Good day, General." Then, she too turns and leaves, leaving Yanmei and Raphael alone.]
[16:11] <Raphael> "…" Raphael watches the door for a moment, his expression carefully neutral. "… That may have been a misjudgement, ma'am."
[16:14] * Yanmei slid down into her chair, muttering something under her breath. "Probably," she said in her normal voice. "But I just wanted a little more time. Is that so wrong?"
[16:20] <Raphael> "I'm afraid it might be, in this case." Raphael says, scratching his cheek. "Quietly adjusting roles loses us nothing, whereas angering our best candidates for Chief of Engineering when we're stranded on Mars…" He speads his hands as if that was a sufficient end to the statement.
[16:25] * Yanmei sighed. "It's not like I was even saying 'no'! What's a few weeks, anyway? Uggh… I'll go talk to them after this."
[16:29] * Raphael nods slowly, drumming his fingers. "May I ask why you were so adamant, Chancellor? I know you hold no love for Surov."
[16:32] <Yanmei> "Did you know that Hohenzollern wanted his job? Back when the UEF first formed and we rescued all those people in the Geofront?"
[16:33] * Raphael shakes his head. "No, ma'am."
[16:41] <Yanmei> "Well, she did, and she's probably not alone. The reason I said no back then was because Surov was already plenty capable and because I was worried about shaking up the scientists and technicians working under him with a new boss. After those incidents with Rei and Ezekiel, I was worried about them getting even more stressed out than they already were? And with all the changes going on and
[16:41] <Yanmei> the final battles ramping up the work they were doing, they -would- be stressed, no doubt about it." -
[16:48] <Yanmei> "Things are… much bleaker right now. It wouldn't take much to set off a riot or break morale. So I along the same lines, I thought it would be better to keep the management consistant instead of bringing in someone these people met all of two days ago. Does that make sense?"
[16:50] <Raphael> "It does. However… if I may speak freely?"
[16:50] <Yanmei> "Yeah, go ahead?"
[16:54] <Raphael> "Those are respectable, practical reasons that I - and, I suspect, Surov - could respect. Unfortunately, in your alarm, I believe you made it look like your concerns were a little more… reflexive. Perhaps more based on her nature." Raphael says, choosing his words carefully now.-
[16:56] <Raphael> "How closely were you watching him? Did you see him smile at her? Have you -ever- seen Surov smile?" Raphael asks. "I suspect I dislike the man more than you do, but I think he truly means it when he calls him her daughter. And if, for example, I thought a person was dismissing Rei for reasons based on her nature, I may react similarly."
[17:07] <Yanmei> "Mrph. She does make me a little uncomfortable? But that's not why I said what I did."
[17:11] <Raphael> "Alright, ma'am." He nods. "Thank you for hearing me out."-
[17:11] <Raphael> "… now that that's dealt with, though, there was my other matter to discuss."
[17:13] <Yanmei> "Right." A tired little smile. "You're not thinking of stepping down too, are you?"
[17:13] * Raphael snorts. "No, ma'am."-
[17:17] <Raphael> "Major Wellesley and I dealt with a particular incident during the boarding raids, and we felt it should be brought to your attention. As far as either of us can discern, we were the only ones to encounter the New World troops they deployed during the Asgard attacks. The ones they're calling Phantoms."
[17:19] <Yanmei> "Go on?"
[17:29] <Raphael> "They were under the command of an AT-user who is closer to what we would consider to be a Solomon. We don't recognize the genetic donor, if she -is- a clone. When Rei disabled her, however, the surviving Phantoms immediately put down their weapons and surrendered, so we can assume a good level of loyalty there."-
[17:31] <Raphael> "Alphonse and I have secured the survivors in a disused section of the Battleship with Marines loyal to the Major to prevent reprisal attacks, given their role in the Crystal Massacre. The Solomon is being kept separately to ensure they remain passive."-
[17:32] <Raphael> "… The other point you need to be aware of is that every one of them is a cloned Ayanami." Raphael says matter-of-factly, his expression unreadable.
[12:51] <Yanmei> "Every…" Yanmei fell silent for a moment. She shut her eyes and massaged her eyelids. "All right," she said with deliberate evenness. "Even if they look that way, we still have no idea what their conditioning is like."
[12:53] <Raphael> "It's… significant, as best we can tell." Raphael mutters. "They're largely unresponsive to anyone but the Solomon, very few displays of individuality…"-
[12:53] <Raphael> "Without orders they are essentially passive."

  • Retrieving #nervfrance modes…

[13:04] <Yanmei> "Caine's ideal soldiers," Yanmei muttered bitterly. "At the very least we can say it makes it easy for us to house them?"
[13:07] * Raphael is silent for a moment, watching Yanmei flatly. "… Yes. I suppose so."
[13:09] * Minaplo|BRB is now known as Minaplo
[13:14] <Yanmei> "Where do we go from here, then?"
[13:17] <Raphael> "That was part of why we're bringing this to you. We can keep their presence quiet for now - the battleship is chaotic enough that people are unlikely to question one more area off-limits, even if they find it - but if, and more likely when, they are discovered there could be significant problems."
[13:20] * ZackFood is now known as Zack
[13:22] <Yanmei> "You want me to run damage control when the inevitable happens and to quietly let the higher-ups know about it in advance," she guessed.
[13:25] <Raphael> "Essentially." Raphael nods. "Although if there are other solutions available then we aren't about to stand in the way. It might also be advisable to bring in Technical if we are likely to encounter more of the Phantoms in the future, and we almost certainly are."
[13:33] <Yanmei> Technical. She resisted another sigh. "All right. I feel that at least Rei and her sisters should also be informed about this. The shock of finding out about it the wrong way could be pretty terrible?"
[13:35] <Raphael> "… Rei knows." He sighs, shaking his head a little. "As do a few of the Sisters. Rei, of course, wants us to adopt and socialise them, and Alphonse naturally agrees with Rei."
[13:40] <Yanmei> "That would be a fantastic idea if we knew it would work." She glanced aside. "The Solomon Primes we had here earlier… they had their own personalities and they didn't hate us and they still escaped and went straight back to Caine at the first chance?"
[13:41] <Raphael> "Mmm. Which is why I have my doubts." Raphael says, looking a little pained by the admission.
[13:45] <Yanmei> "Have we been talking to the Solomon they were following? Can we get some information from her about them?"
[13:49] <Raphael> "Both Major Wellesley and I have spoken to her, although time's been rather limited." Raphael says. "She's… -motherly- in regards to her Phantoms. I think she'll be open to discussion so long as they are kept safe, and right now we are taking care of them."
[13:58] * Yanmei blinked a few times, and then her expression softened a bit. "Then let's keep looking after them. *ahem* To keep negotiations open, of course. If we could offer better accomodations to all of them, we might be able to give her a greater incentive to work with us."
[14:00] * Raphael nods, smiling a little. "I appreciate that, ma'am. If you have the time and wish to speak to her, just find Alphonse or I."-
[14:03] <Raphael> His smile fades a little. "I might also suggest asking Yui Ikari to give the Phantoms a look over when she's not required elsewhere. Regardless of my feelings, she -is- the most familiar with Ayanami physiology and conditioning. She might be able to give us some further answers.
[14:05] <Yanmei> "You're right. I'll ask her." But her expression suggested she wasn't looking forward to it.
[14:08] <Raphael> "Excellent." Raphael nods, leaning back in his chair a little. Yanmei's expression was noted and sympathised with, but… well, better the Chancellor than him. "I believe that should be about all from me, Chancellor."
[14:10] <Yanmei> "Thank you, Guillory. Um. Is it okay if we talk about more personal matters now?"
[14:11] * Raphael tilts his head curiously. "Of course, ma'am."
[14:12] <Yanmei> "I heard about Katsuragi. Is she… improving a little?"
[14:16] <Raphael> "… She is." He says, glancing away for a moment. "A little. Doctor Tenma insists she'll make a full recovery, but right now she's still very unwell."
[14:22] <Yanmei> "I've been meaning to visit her. She was pretty nice to me before the battle. For a change." A small smile. "I'm sure she'll be okay in a few weeks. The doctors are pretty good about this sort of thing."
[14:25] * Raphael gives her a grateful look, but nods. "I know. If they weren't, a dose of radiation like would almost certainly have been fatal."-
[14:25] <Raphael> "Which she would have -known-…" He adds, frowning.
[14:30] <Yanmei> "But if it wasn't for her, we wouldn't have been able to Jaunt away from that battle? You should give her lots of hero hugs for that~"
[14:32] <Raphael> "Believe me, she isn't letting me forget." He says, with a too-forced chuckle.
[14:43] <Yanmei> "Hehehe… she totally wouldn't? You should take her to see Gosselin's baby when you have the opportunity. If the doctors are okay with that, I mean…"
[14:45] <Raphael> "That might not be a bad idea, actually. She and Sophie always get along well, and I haven't had a chance to congratulate her." He smiles again, and this time it's a bit more genuine. "Thank you, ma'am. I'll try that."
[14:51] * Yanmei nodded enthusiastically. "You know, I'm a little surprised those two haven't tied the knot yet? Maybe soon."
[14:54] * Raphael pauses a little at that, but manages to keep his smile from faltering. "… Maybe." He says, before quickly pressing on.-
[14:55] <Raphael> "We wouldn't want to step on yours and Isaiah's plans, ma'am."
[14:58] <Yanmei> "I'd welcome it? A double wedding would take some of the pressure off. You know, if Katsuragi wasn't still ill…" she trailed off, seemingly sizing him up.
[15:05] <Raphael> "She's probably not in the best state for that right now." Raphael agrees, a little more quickly than is strictly necessary.-
[15:06] <Raphael> "… Besides, the Major might not like the idea of sharing." Raphael says with another chuckle, this one even more forced than the last.
[15:14] <Yanmei> "Hmm. Maybe you're right. What do you think about it, though? Like personally?"
[15:21] <Raphael> "It… I don't know." Raphael sighs and shrugs a little helplessly. "It's not as though I haven't considered the idea of asking her, but our relationship has its own issues when it comes to this sort of thing. It might be a difficult question at the best of times, let alone now."
[15:24] * Yanmei seemed to be sizing him up differently now, the teasing edge slipping away. She reached over and patted him on the arm. "Don't worry! Metatron isn't going to end the world anytime soon? There's still plenty of time."
[15:42] <Raphael> "I know. It'll happen eventually." He says, relaxing a little. "… or maybe it won't. I'm rather happy with our relationship as it is now, to be truthful."
[15:46] <Yanmei> "Then I guess there's no reason to jump into it? Shame, though." She sighed with disappointment. "I wonder how you'd look wearing a tux. Maybe we can pester Blue into making you one when this is over?"
[15:47] <Raphael> "I have one available, actually. It's bullet-resistant, too." Raphael smirks.
[15:49] <Yanmei> "H-huh?! Seriously? Sounds like something a superspy would wear…"
[15:50] <Raphael> "Something like that."
[15:51] * Yanmei rubbed her chin, considering that with a serious face. "…think they make wedding dresses like that too?"
[15:52] <Raphael> "You'd… have to ask Surov, ma'am. And I suspect the answer might be a firm 'no' right now." He says with a small wince.
[15:56] <Yanmei> "D-damn. Well. I'm going to straighten things out right now," she tossed her hair. "And I'll do it so well that he won't be able to refuse."
[15:59] <Raphael> "…" Raphael eyes her evenly. "Of course, ma'am."
[16:16] <Yanmei> "You're the only one I'm mentioning this to, but I haven't been great with talking to people lately. I wasn't even able to convince Fatima Nejem to defect to our side before we made it to the Singularity Egg? And then there was everything I've had to do since we came here. …Like…everything." She stood up, frowning, and gave another determined hair-toss. -
[16:16] <Yanmei> "That crappy streak ends now!"
[16:23] <Raphael> "Best of luck to you, Chancellor. You have my support, at least." He says, smothering the urge to laugh. "If I may make one suggestion to aid that goal, though?"
[16:24] <Yanmei> "Of course?"
[16:28] <Raphael> "Get Miss Sarasvati on your side first. I think you'll have a lot more luck."
[16:30] <Yanmei> "Good idea. Honestly, between the two of them, I think she's more likely to listen anyway."
[16:31] <Raphael> "Almost certainly." He nods.
[16:40] <Yanmei> "Wish me luck, then~?" She turned for the door, still keeping that aura of determination going.
[16:41] * Raphael stands as well, but pauses after a couple of steps after her. "Ah. One more thing, before you go?"
[16:41] <Yanmei> "Hm? Yeah?" She stopped in her tracks.
[16:44] <Raphael> "Suzie lost her chair - Colonel Lachapelle's chair - during the Asgard attack. She's… resisting the urge to get a replacement from Medical, and she says she'd rather use the AC Suit from the Peacecraft to get around for the time being." He pauses again, chewing his lip.-
[16:44] <Raphael> "I didn't want to ok it without clearing it with you and Command."
[16:46] <Yanmei> "Er…" Yanmei looked a little worried. "Does it have a bunch of weapons on it?"
[16:47] <Raphael> "We would, of course, disable them." He says quickly. "The Colonel's wheelchair had a heavy machine gun and a grenade launcher."
[16:51] <Yanmei> She relaxed a little. "I'll authorize it under one condition?"
[16:52] <Raphael> "Of course."
[16:58] <Yanmei> "She can use it as long as she accepts a medal honoring the stuff she did at Asgard. We probably aren't able to hold a proper ceremony now, but when we return to Earth…"
[17:03] * Raphael smiles, but there's a hint of sadness in the expression. "I think that can probably be arranged. I'll have to talk with her first, though… she doesn't think she did anything worth honouring when we lost so many people."
[17:06] <Yanmei> "I… see. I'll be listening for her answer, in any case. And…" a little awkwardness. "She can use the AC suit either way she decides?"
[17:08] <Raphael> "Thank you, ma'am." He says, giving her a pat on the shoulder. "I very much appreciate the gesture, in any case. Although you might need to be ready for her to ask for the Peaceknight to receive the same honours if she -does- accept."
[17:12] <Yanmei> "Weirder things have happened, I guess?" Yanmei led the way to the door, smiling a little now and shaking her head. "I'll see you later, Guillory."
[17:13] <Raphael> "Good luck, Yanmei." He says, waiting for the Chancellor to exit before he follows her out into the hall, the lights in the meeting room dimming as he leaves.
