Komm Susser Tod 2 3 8

[07:59] <Vera> » Night. Darkness. It was the tail end of summer, and it was with a ceiling fan /whirling madly/ over her head that one particular Brazilian Colonel was laying in bed, black hair strewn all over it like part of the blanketure. A little auburn-haired girl was tucked up in the middle of that mess of black, quite possibly snoozing away just as intensely… Now, sunrise would be soon…
06[08:21] * Vera then /snapped/ up with a very smooth, practiced gesture that was clearly one of someone who knew Shit Was Going to Go Down. She /threw/ the covers off of herself, and picked Sol right up, marching straight for the securest comms line she could find. Possibly a military radio. "…What's going on?"
[08:35] <Minaplo> [Sol's instant reaction was to let out a long, painful whine, her hands clumsily rubbing at her eyes.-
[08:40] <Minaplo> ["Colonel Freitas, we need you to come into Ops. Captain Salazar has gone missing."]
06[08:43] * Vera gently rubbed Sol's head as best she could, but… nodded. "Understood. Call again on this line if further details come up." It wasn't /stiff/, but just firm and clear. Soon, very soon, the woman was dressing, giving Sol what amounted to a snack of a breakfast - no time for one herself because the kid had less prep anyway - and soon enough was on the road on the way to base.
[09:39] <Minaplo> [She'd notice as she drove the innocuous markings on nearby cars that marked them out as undercover FCB security forces- escorting her to base clandestinely.-
[09:45] <Minaplo> [The base was on high alert as Vera arrived. A pair of soldiers flanked most of the major passageway doors, fully armed and wearing carapace armour. They served as checkpoints, checking the identities of all who passed through.-
[09:47] <Minaplo> [Ops, too, was at high alert, including full tactical displays and the like. The capture of a pilot could be the prelude to a full-scale attack as much as anything, after all.-
[09:50] <Minaplo> [Her staff were on duty- Pereira, Prescott and Kader having all apparently been mustered as well due to the full combat alert. The chain of command was on hand as well: Captain de Franco was standing next to Vera's chair; Commander Salazar was sitting in the raised dais seat behind Vera's own; and VC Levin was standing at his side, fully armed and armoured.-
[09:50] <Minaplo> ["Director at Ops!" Shouted de Franco. The Ops Staff didn't bother turning and saluting.]
06[09:51] * Vera had /probably/ let Sol off with some security group of one sort or another, and quickly made her way to her own chair, nodding. "Thank you Captain… What's the situation, folks?"
[10:32] <Minaplo> ["I-" de Franco started, then stopped herself, flicking a gaze towards Commander Salazar. "… At 0300 I checked on Eu- on… On Captain Salazar in her bedroom, but her bed was deserted. I searched the house for her, but she was nowhere to be found."-
[10:33] <Minaplo> ["Her window was open." Said Salazar. "But she almost always sleeps with it open, so it wasn't a priority to check. However, the fly screen, on closer inspection, had actually been carefully removed and placed to one side."-
[10:35] <Minaplo> ["Neighbours were questioned to no avail. Same for any of her friends or contacts that we were aware of." Said de Franco. "The security forces are trying to find her now."]
06[10:37] * Vera slowly nodded, a grim look on her face. "Anything, anything at all that seemed out of place over the past few days in her behavior, that you knew of?"
[10:43] <Minaplo> ["No, nothing odd…" Said de Franco.-
[10:44] <Minaplo> ["Colonel, I've already taken the time to compile as many reports as possible regarding the Captain's behaviour in recent days, taken from those who have regular contact with her on site." Said Kader. "Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, and I didn't pick up on any 'signs'- nervousness, etc."-
[10:48] <Minaplo> ["So it was either super-spontaneous, or she's really good at hiding all of that, or it's kidnapping." Said Prescott.]
06[10:52] * Vera frowned and frowned /deeply/. "…She isn't the best in the world at filtering. …But who do you think would? Have there been great overtures of any sort yet that might suggest, ah, an increase in hostilities against our country?… Or should we be looking for pettier things, maybe even personal things?
[11:03] <Minaplo> ["I would suspect that anyone capable of stealing such an important individual without detection would have to be very skilled." Said Gabriel Levin. "That suggests- resources, training."-
[11:03] <Minaplo> ["Colombians." Said Pereira suddenly.]
06[11:04] * Vera /turned/. "…Is there something about Colombia the rest of us aren't aware of, Lieutenant…?"
[11:09] <Minaplo> ["Well, Colonel, you might think I'm just an old veteran fighting a done war." Said Pereira, somewhat defensively. "But we're all looking at this from our perspective- as a Pilot. What if that's not the case? The Colombians hate us for winning the Amazonian War, but just like how the Captain is a symbol for us, to her she's a real icon of hatred. If anyone would have motives, it'd be the
[11:09] <Minaplo> Colombians."-
[11:09] <Minaplo> ["Colombia was an LN affiliate." Said Levin slowly. "I suppose it's not implausible…"]
06[11:14] * Vera folded her arms in her lap, looking awkward. "If nothing else, it's the most coherent motive yet produced for this, that I can think of." She pursed her lips. "…But it's not that they've lost relevance or something - it's just that the Colombians arguably /should not be that good at this/ at present. Would there be any notions as to how this might be? …I mean, backing from a
06[11:14] * Vera stronger power is feasible, but that just invites the question of /their/ motives."
[11:18] <Minaplo> [Levin and Kader glanced at each other.-
[11:21] <Minaplo> ["I consider the LN connection to be the most plausible explanation right now." Said Levin. "Colombian LN agents still might have ties with some of our own ex-LN personnel. Truth be told, I cannot promise perfect loyalty from all of those who work for us, and bonds of loyalty and shared experience might trump expedience and reason in situations such as this."-
[11:21] <Minaplo> ["Someone on the inside." Muttered Kader.]
[11:24] <Vera> "…That /would/ neatly sidestep some of the expertise considerations, if the Old LN Buddy Network was used by the Colombians against us. It's always a risk when bonds remain between members of groups now opposed to one another." Vera said a bit gravely. "But naturally, caution is a watchword. Start an /inquisition/ of the more literal scope, and we could trash cohesion. …Though /at least/
[11:24] <Vera> we have support in command and operations for this kind of thing… and an organization designed for this purpose."
[11:46] <Minaplo> ["True enough." Said Levin. "What are your immediate orders, Director?"]
06[11:49] * Vera closed her eyes for a moment… "Check for the positions and actions of base staff with the requisite skillsets to accomplish a kidnapping of that proficiency and selfsame over the past few days. With that general list of suspects, go down the list and /try/ to keep tabs on them from here on out. We might end up finding a lead, the culprit, or failing all else, some kind of hint as
06[11:49] * Vera to anything we might be off-base on."
[11:56] <Minaplo> ["Understood." Said Levin.-
[11:56] <Minaplo> ["Any orders on handling the media?" Asked Kader.]
06[12:04] * Vera drummed fingers on the chair, turning to him. "Caution. I would suggest some kind of plausibly-deniable excuse for the Captain's absence that we could easily roll into the actual kidnapping story if we think letting the media know will help. …But right /now/ I think it'll only cause harm to our credibility. We as you know have a model to work off of in pilot relations - NERV
06[12:04] * Vera generally didn't have a crisis like this without far more blatant opposing action. Like the madness that took Italy, or the entire Yanmei-Synfront… debacle. We shouldn't appear much weaker than they have."
[12:13] <Minaplo> [There were general murmurs of assent.-
[12:13] <Minaplo> ["We also have the advantage that few of us know what our true purpose is." Said Commander Salazar. "We're deliberately kept obscure, and most people who know about us think that we're purely dedicated to Superheavy management."-
[12:14] <Minaplo> ["True, sir." Said Pereira. "Which is why I considered the Colombians also- they don't need to know that we exist in order to make her a target."]
[12:21] <Vera> "…Since otherwise, she's hardly that significant. Just one famous and young soldier, amidst a seeming 'superheavy corps' full of men and women that appear to be just like her." Vera almost finished the unspoken sentence. "As it stands, it's always better to have the likely idea - Colombians - in mind, but be ready for being wrong or even wildly wrong. Stranger things have happened in
[12:21] <Vera> /this/ era."
[12:34] <Minaplo> ["Director, our forces are on maximum alert and are ready to scramble on a moment's notice." Said Prescott. "Should we keep them ready in case of a full scale attack, or should we stand them down?"]
06[12:38] * Vera had a sort of awkward scrunching in her face. "…Discretion is the better idea here. If there's a reduced alert state that still keeps a fair fraction of superheavies and any amount of conventional forces at ready, take it. Resources need to be spent for solving this. If for some reason an attack is planned, having solved the actual problem could help." But then Vera sighed
06[12:38] * Vera regretfully. "…God-forbid if it /isn't/ Colombian symbol attacking, having the option to scramble CAV-01 is better than not." Beat. "Summary, tone it down but not a lot, and put more boots on the ground for the search effort."
[12:51] <Minaplo> ["Understood, Director."-
[12:54] <Minaplo> ["Until then, it seems, we have no choice but to wait for the searches to uncover something." Said Levin.]

—-

[13:47] <Minaplo> [About six days after Eufemia had been abducted, Vera would find herself summoned to the situation room, where she'd find waiting for her Salazar, de Franco and Levin.]
[13:52] * Vera wandered through the hallways with black locks flipping behind her, in her FCB uniform. While the /image/ she presented was immaculate, in truth she had a sense of concern. The seriousness of the incident had mounted more and more with each passing day. This was a critical moment, likely a breakthrough Command had ended up working through. So her demeanor on /entry/ was fairly
[13:52] * Vera stoic.
[14:01] <Minaplo> ["Director Freitas." Said Salazar. "Welcome. Please sit down, we'll begin immediately."]
[14:01] * Vera nodded her head at that, going ahead and sitting at her seat, probably placed obliquely to show authority but defer to that of the ranking officers.
[14:11] <Minaplo> ["Intel has located Eufemia." Said Levin. "It turns out Pereira was right. A Colombian insurgent group calling themselves the Restorators was behind her abduction. They're still in the country, and it looks like they tried to leave undetected, but that hasn't gone so well for them. We've tracked them down to an old abandoned outpost deep in the Amazon."]
[14:13] * ZackFood is now known as Noriko
[14:17] * Vera pursed her lips, even if a small part of her was glad for a mild return on her investment in Pereira. "…Interesting for them to be capable of getting this far. Especially to escape pursuit for nearly a week." A frown, there. "So have we formed an action plan on matters yet?"
[14:21] <Minaplo> ["Yes." Said Levin. "We want you to lead a small FCB strike force into the rainforest, fight your way into the compount, retrieve Captain Eufemia, and if possible, capture or kill their leader."-
[14:22] <Minaplo> ["The leader is a man named Felipe, but he's more well known by his sobriquet- 'The Decorator'." Said de Franco.]
[14:24] * Vera does a very not-Suzu-character things and raises her finger. "…I /am/ capable of doing so and even qualified to, but I should request why the Operations Director would be sent to do such personally…?"
[14:29] <Minaplo> ["This will be a sensitive situation, Director." Said de Franco. "We feel it would be best if you were in the field directing your forces like a commando leader rather than coordinating from base like a general."-
[14:30] <Minaplo> [Levin tapped his large hand on the table twice. "In the Iron Guard, a Knight does not become a Lieutenant, nor a Lieutenant become a Captain, unless they can prove capable of leading in the very thick of battle. Consider this your trial by fire, Director. I want to see how you handle yourself on a battlefield."]
[14:32] * Vera nodded firmly. "…Understood and agreed, it was a… aheh, a thought regarding critical personnel, but… At the same time, that criticality should be /used/. So what will my team be like, and any information about the operation you can furnish?"
[14:38] <Minaplo> ["Your strike force will consist of three platoons of Assault Troopers, along with a single platoon from the Special Operations Brigade." Said Levin. "The location of this outpost is very remote, hence the small size of your forces. We would deploy Iron Guard, but even a single squad of Guard can be incredibly devastating to the area around it, and the risk of harming Captain Eufemia is too great. Nevertheless, Veteran Assault Knight Jani will be waiting above the battlefield in a VTOL as a reserve. At any point you deem appropriate, you can call on him and he will come down on any location you prefer."-
[14:39] <Minaplo> ["You will, however, be outnumbered." Said Levin. "Odds of four insurgents for every man you have is not unlikely. You will need to leverage your advantages in training, equipment and leadership."]
[14:51] * Vera nodded, yet had the /slightest/ of confident smiles. "…Insurgents, well-connected or well-equipped they might be, aren't usually as well-/lead/. Overconfidence would kill me, but I have a general feeling I have the means to overcome their numbers easily."
[14:53] <Minaplo> ["I would hope so, Director." Said Salazar. "Will you be taking your staff with you?"]
[14:55] <Vera> "I handpicked them for their benefits. As much as it /might/ be awkward to bring Lieutenant Prescott into open combat, her coordination and logistical ability are still /very much/ desirable. Lieutenants Kader and Pereira are quite capable soldiers as-is." The smile became more genuine. "So, yes."
[15:03] <Minaplo> ["Very well." Said Levin.-
[15:04] <Minaplo> ["I will take care of Ops whilst you're gone, Director." Said de Franco. "Just focus on the mission. Focus on getting our- the Captain back into safe hands." Said de Franco, her voice tight.]
[15:06] * Vera could sense the tone, and knew well why it was held. …Anyone would, even without her insight. "Her retrieval is the highest priority, the team's survival next, …most other concerns tertiary. It's a lot to juggle, but I assure you, she will be coming home and with as little cost as we can manage." …Somehow she managed to convey a deeply warm, yet grittily determined, tone.
[15:07] <Minaplo> ["Thank you." Said Salazar, his own voice calm. "Dismissed, Director."]
[15:11] * Vera nodded and stood, pausing only to give a mild salute to the staff when she reached the door, before heading out beyond! She clearly would know on one level or another where the bridge staff was hanging out - …likely the bridge. That was her next destination, to explain the situation, get final words on their own thoughts on the matter.
[15:13] <Minaplo> [A quick explanation later, and…-
[15:13] <Minaplo> [Pereira accepted the information readily, betraying no emotion one way or another.-
[15:17] <Minaplo> [Kader, however, folded his arms. "I gotta say, Director, you're pushing the maybe here." He tapped the metal 'hood' built into his head. "Telepatica. Te-le-patica. I'm no battle apostle."-
[15:18] <Minaplo> ["Like you don't spend four hours a week in the danger room, showing off." Snorted Rosamund. "Besides, think of it as you rescuing a damsel in distress."-
[15:19] <Minaplo> [Pereira rolled his eyes at the same time as Kader brightened. "Huh."-
[15:19] <Minaplo> ["Anyway, Director." Said Rosamund brightly. "I wish you guys luck. I'll make sure everything runs just fine from here." She said, turning back around to face the console.]
[15:26] * Vera pondered that for a second. "…Well. I /had/ had some support roles planned out for the lot of you just in case any of the three were less than interested in open combat." She said it with a significantly leading tone, of course. "Lieutenant Pereira can easily reinforce soldier morale, Lieutenant Kader can coordinate operations above and beyond radio capability /and/ the ability
[15:26] * Vera to ping for even human AT Fields is /extremely/ useful for tactical purposes. And while I am not /forcing/ you to enter open combat, Lieutenant Prescott, we /are/ leading teams. There are some forms of coordination and resource management that can be performed on the field."
[15:27] <Minaplo> [Prescott went still, then -slowly- turned around in her chair.-
[15:27] <Minaplo> ["You want me to lead teams…?!" She asked, going pale.-
[15:28] <Minaplo> ["… Oooh." Kader perked up, suddenly grinning. "Now this is an interesting image. Rosamund tugging on the hair of a real cutie- what's the story behind that~?"-
[15:28] <Minaplo> ["You shut up!"]
[15:32] * Vera smiled broadly. "Yes /but/. Your talents aren't based on /command/. I /know/ and /always knew/ that. …So I'd see you more as a resources and double-check officer. 499 Losses, 1 Draw. …But yet you were a /coveted resource/. I'm still the commander, but even if you leave overall operations to me, it surely can't hurt to optimize formations, point out correct terrain usage, /finagle/.
[15:32] * Vera Again, not forcing you, it's just… … …I can't think of a way that doesn't sound creepy."
[15:36] <Minaplo> [Kader was leaning against his console, grinning.-
[15:37] <Minaplo> [Rosamund bit her lower lip in dissatisfaction. "Yeah… Alright, fair enough. I'll see what I can do."]
[15:45] * Vera nodded. "If at any time before deployment you realize you can't take that risk, then I'll understand." Then Vera put on a warmer smile. "As much as we all cajoled you into this - except Lieutenant Pereira of course -" …a brief wink. "-this is more or less /the staff's purpose/. Command the soldiers, coordinate information and comms, and… Supervise our most valuable resource,
[15:45] * Vera the Cavaleiro and its pilot. I'm glad I'll be going in with your support."
[15:46] <Minaplo> [There were general nods and assent in return.]
[16:04] * Vera had gone through the motions, established the plan. …Time passed. It was now dawn, in the middle of Amazonian jungle, at a camp with various tents and amenities sufficient for a unit on the move in the hellscape that is rainforest terrain. Soldiers waiting in their own areas, but now, what was effectively the command staff was gathered as well, to begin the plan. "…At this point,
[16:04] * Vera we have the target in sight. The installation, its guard towers, and of course, multiple klicks of rainforest terrain amidst."
[16:15] <Minaplo> ["I've plotted our course through the rainforest." Said Rosamund.-
[16:17] <Minaplo> [Rosamund, Kader and Pereira all wore light power armour, their helmets off for now. Rosamund wiped away some of the humid sweat running across her face for what seemed like the hundredth time. "We should be able to steal a march on them nicely. What's our overall strategy?"]
[16:26] * Vera herself was in such, and also de-helmed, her hair tied up to not get in the way. "What I am thinking… the guard towers are very problematic to us, we need to ensure that we can properly eliminate them before an alarm is raised. So I'll go over that first. We /have/ a spec-ops brigade with us, and that should greatly improve our odds. So my thought is that the specs insert at the
[16:26] * Vera tower further from the main base, and attempt an overwhelming-force ambush, while the rest of the forces, sans any backup you think the specialists may need, attempts to knock over the closer tower before an alarm can sound with much /higher/ amounts of overwhelming force. I can operate with one of our divisions and help coordinate… Pereira, you'd be best suited to shoring up heavy fighting
[16:26] * Vera where your talents suit, Kader, you can make the best of a heavy melee with your own knowledge and benefit us greatly with AT awareness for intel gathering, and Prescott, I might suggest you be a rearline pathfinder for the spec-ops unit to ensure better stealth in their assault."
[16:34] <Minaplo> [There were nods and general assent at this plan.]
[16:45] * Vera nodded as well, to confirm reception. "With luck and lack of /unforeseen problems/, we should then hit the base. There's a number of forks here. If stealth is maintained, then using what remains of the spec-ops' assault resources - grenades, special munitions - to attempt to make the entry as clean as possible and take one last wresting of suprise will be best… followed, of course,
[16:45] * Vera by a full assault. If stealth is somehow /broken/, then we will have to hurry at much greater speed and may have to have the specialists simply push through with only token action spent on softening the frontal defenses. Either way, from there, I am thinking the specialists should try to either sidestep the lines if possible, or be waiting right behind our spearhead if not, and we systematically
[16:45] * Vera sort through the rooms of the facility from entrance-inwards in a fan to find Captain Salazar. After all, we are an outnumbered force, so objective is priority one. Now, that is just our /general action pattern/. The last step is on how best to optimize actually /breaching the base/. The hardest part, so I might ask for a bit of your insight first?"
[16:55] <Minaplo> ["Small arms won't have much effect on the gates these kinds of outposts use." Said Pereira. "Explosives are best. Anti-armor grenades and missiles can get it open for us."-
[16:55] <Minaplo> ["The easiest way to get the door open without fuss would be for our Spec Ops to go over the wall and open it from the inside." Said Rosamund.-
[16:56] <Minaplo> ["Or." Said Kader. "As we begin our assault, we have Jani drop from the sky right into the middle of 'em, buying us time to bust the door open however we like."]
[17:03] * Vera nodded! "All good options, though the Jani option I'll consider mostly if it's less expedient to breach or infiltrate at the time. Aces in the hole are in the hole for good reason. …Though, hah, I'll try to figure a time for action for them regardless. To do anything less would be /unsporting/." A smirk. "Otherwise… Hm, I imagine from there we just use superior resources and
[17:03] * Vera /flow/ in ways they won't handle due to superior training and leadership. I think we have enough to run with. Any questions?"
[17:21] <Minaplo> [They shook their heads.]
[17:22] * Vera stood at that point. "Then let's make the final preparations. Check munitions and supplies, and check on things you might've forgotten like breakfast or coordinating with your squad seconds or the like. Call me if you need more time, but otherwise we move out in 30."
[19:56] <Minaplo> ["Yes, ma'am!" They saluted and quickly hurried away to their posts.]
[20:14] * Vera found herself, roughly 45 minutes or so later, amidst a Defesa squadron marching through the western trail under rainforest cover, towards one of the towers. Actively monitoring the battlefield situation as she went, the woman was confident now, even moreso as the spec-ops unit reported nondetection nearing the east tower. She waited. Waited for everyone to be in position, everyone
[20:14] * Vera to be ready to go. Even as her, Kader, and Pereira all marched their units forwards… She knew Prescott's superior pathfinding had won them the position to engage first. "Shadow Rogue, clear to engage at readiness." She noted. Each unit had a callsign based on the op name 'Shadow Sabre' - Rosamund commanded Shadow Rogue, Pereira commanded Shadow Knight, Kader led Shadow Dervish… leaving
[20:14] * Vera Vera herself under command of Shadow Emperor. It was a bit silly, but hey, it was good to give a small nudge to egos every now and then. Still… Shadow Rogue, Brazilian Spec-Ops soldiers through and through, made a blindingly quick move inwards, first landing a smoke grenade that blinded the Colombian soldiers but was transparent to their SENTINEL headsets. Then quickly scaling far enough
[20:14] * Vera up the tower to bust in through any gap available to them, coming in from the side! Rosamund's own maser set on tactical mode spat designator shots that quickly guided the way (through her own training in target marking) to an utter /massacre/ of a significant division of guards via merciless bolter fire, large shells exploding and sending shrapnel through vitals within the dark smog. …but
[20:15] * Vera their lone sniping specialist was ready, as well. It only took a single railgun slug to pierce the brain of another unit's rail-minigun operator, dropping him dead. …At the reports, the sound of friendly munitions striking home and hardly a sound of Brazilian men falling… Vera allowed a slight grin. Isn't it just great when a plan comes together?
[19:10] * Vera moved further when the first tower was basically utterly knocked over by Rosamund's unit. Converging on her were Marauder (that was totally always its name, Kader) and Knight, all forming up just outside of enemy sightlines. Time passed. People aimed, focused, and then… Vera didn't even sound an order more complex than. "West tower. Go.", and it all happened again. Shadow Emperor
[19:10] * Vera moved in, and a heavy weapons officer from their number raised a large missile launcher. Frag was not the best for breaching, but it was what they had. The rocket sailed through, and built up a scorched dent in the wall. …but it wasn't enough. Moving in and deploying anti-armor grenades fixed that, and soon Knight and Marauder were bursting into the fray, guns blazing! …but Vera was
[19:10] * Vera frowning, even ducking her head a bit as the guerillas, not taken by surprise like before, had a chance to directly open fire on her unit and others! "We have the opening, take it. Disperse and eliminate, close-flush-out pattern!" She barked into her comms, and was soon marching with her unit, even as she pumped off a shot from her Stalker Bolter at one of the enemy officers (it was dodged).
[19:10] * Vera But soon, the symphony of blood came into effect, and the Defesa units accomplished their goal with time to spare and the exploded entrails of a bolter assault's wake to show for it.
[22:23] * Vera marched on from there. The objective was in sight. They just had to… had to approach and… Vera suddenly frowned when she heard noise and shouting. "…Got ahead of myself there, didn't I. Well, I nearly promised action for him, so…" She finished muttering to herself, and in the midst of… almost no signalling at all save for vague gestures that ensured Prescott knew to
[22:23] * Vera infiltrate from the side, and for Kader and Pereira to form up by her and be the spearhead, Vera hit the comms. "Knight Jani, it is /time/. Deployment coordinates sent, near the eastern gate on river's end, inside the enemy compound. I give you discretion to erase any significant threats to the operation as you so determine, to cover our flank!" But the assault began in earnest even as he
[22:23] * Vera dropped. It started a bit rough around the edges with the Knight and Marauder units forming a spearhead to blast through the guerillas set to meet them (causing large swathes of them to scatter in disarray), while Rogue filtered out back to tie down a unit to give Jani time to advance. …But what they saw on entry…! "Tank! We need to clear a path and then /get rid of that thing/." Vera
[22:23] * Vera commented as the sweep continued. …Yet things got much messier than the rough entry, at least compared to their virtually-flawless knocking over of the towers. Swarms of guerillas taking bites out of the spearhead, even as unit Shadow Emperor fell into place. But they stood. Even against HMG fire from the tank and hundreds of massed railgun slugs, they all stood, and were starting to pave
[22:23] * Vera their way in! Vera noted that Pereira's men caught sight of Eufemia… and she was quick to act. "We need contact with Captain Salazar. Lieutenant Kader, coordinate a telepathic link between me, her, and yourself, if you would!"
[01:29] <Minaplo> ["Got it." Said Kader, standing a full head over the height of his troops. His helmet crackled for a moment, and Vera would feel pressure behind her eyes…]
[02:00] * Vera briefly paused at that, but then nodded her head. From there, the assault progressed. Rogue constantly escaping a teeming /mass/ of angry guerillas, and then a concentrated opening barrage on the tank got things rolling. From there, Eufemia soon found the literally-unspoken promise of aid delivered on with groups of Defesa troopers moving in to assist, while the mad-eyed commander
[02:00] * Vera was targeted by the remainder. …Then there was the point where, in the midst of ripping the tank to bits, Jani's massive progressive sword chopped smack through the base of the tank turret, and then yanked it clean off in a flash of detonating munitions! Which sent other rounds dancing around and spitting gouts of flame. While Shadow Emperor's troops were soon able to help each other put
[02:00] * Vera out the blaze… the guerillas were caught in it too, and so was their commander! And such was their fanatic haze that, even as with Eufemia able to break out into the base courtyard the Knight and Marauder units could round over to break the enemies surrounding Prescott's Rogue unit, they insisted on attacking! Concentrated fire had to kill the "Decorator"'s guard to the man, before an
[02:00] * Vera awkward impasse was reached, punctuated by crunches and flares as Jani continued to go to down on the tank, with help from some spare grenades and even a well-placed rail slug from Eufie. Vera scrunched her face. "…If we can catch him before he kills himself…" A deep frown, then a gesture. Again, strong cohesion training paid off. Prescott knew to switch her maspistol - part of a pair
[02:01] * Vera of weapons specially kitted out for subdual - to stun mode and began laying into the commander, while eventually, the troops had to go ahead and beat the guy's fire out, despite how much his screaming in terrified agony was helpful to Vera in the short run. The final moment in this theatre was Prescott finally bagging a lucky shot firm enough to send the sad, outmatched guerilla commander
[02:01] * Vera twitching in a heap, soon getting much in the way of ropes and ties binding him for his trouble. …But as the circle of powersuited troopers looked away from the bizarre ritual of subduing the man, they witnessed a sight thought impossible before the birth of the Iron Guard. Knight Jani had decided enough was enough, and dropped his sword, deciding that the tank's days had reached their
[02:01] * Vera end. So resolved, he leapt into the air, and with an elbow powerbomb that would make pro-wrestling fans lose their /fucking minds/, Jani crunched right into the primary magazine on the tank, in such a way that sent destabilized tank rounds into parts of the main interior. The resulting cascade explosion was enough to slaughter the already-banged-up tank crew to a man, leaving only a ruined
[02:01] * Vera heap of a tank, and a quite hale and healthy Iron Guard. —
[02:01] <Vera> - Vera, for her part, just stared. "…" Stared a bit more, before sighing inside her powersuit. "Mission complete."
[02:26] <Minaplo> [There was a long silence as Jani pulled himself out of the wreckage and gathered up his sword.-
[02:28] <Minaplo> [Eufemia walked over to the gathering in the middle of the base, where 'the Decorator' was being carted away into a nearby building for safekeeping by Prescott and the rest of Rogue unit. Prescott had her maser trained on the Decorator, ready to fire at a moment's twitch.-
[02:29] <Minaplo> ["Colonel." Said Eufemia, saluting. "Captain Eufemia de Franco Salazar reporting."]
[02:30] * Vera gave a cursory salute back. "Glad to see you didn't get /overly/ hurt capitalizing on our breach, Captain. We'll be cleaning up here and then heading off."
[02:36] <Minaplo> ["Yes, ma'am. Can I help in anyway?"]
[02:40] * Vera scratched her… helmet-chin… in thought. "Submitting to a touch of first aid, and then I think just backing me up with Unit Shadow Emperor ought to do until we get our ride out of here."
[02:45] <Minaplo> ["Yes, ma'am."-
[02:47] <Minaplo> [Kader placed a hand on Eufie's shoulder. "Relax. The fight's done."-
[02:47] <Minaplo> ["…" Eufemia let out a long, slow breath, her shoulders settling somewhat. "Sorry, Kader. Thank you for your help, Colonel."]
[02:48] * Vera nodded her head. "I was probably going to insulate you anyway. So… Hah. Yeah, most all the guerillas are in full retreat, they just aren't equipped to handle this. Let's just lick wounds, clean casualties, and hang on."
[02:58] <Minaplo> ["Yes, ma'am." She held out her hand for Vera to shake.]
[02:58] * Vera went ahead and shook it back, hand moving carefully to avoid some kind of power armor vicegrip of death.
