The Orbital Beachhead

The Orbital Beachhead

The first step to challenging the UN properly in space was to establish a beachhead, in order to protect space-based infrastructure, provide supply relief to allies, and create a staging ground. The UN had had infrastructure in space for years, not least of which was Taghba Base, a fully functioning NERV-style base on the moon. The Federation's first undertaking into space would not be quite as grandiose, but would nonetheless be based on the same principles.

NERV bases were designed to be universally adaptable. NERV bases were designed so that no matter where they were placed, they would function well. Whether that location be under the ground, in a mountain, on the side of a volcano, under the sea, or on the inside of a volcano designed to fall under the sea, NERV bases were capable of doing it. This incredible engineering feat was rarely appreciated- nor really realised- by many, at least not until a drastic crisis happened and everyone learned to appreciate the value of a base where every modular component could be hermetically sealed or withstand the pressure of the bottom of the ocean.

NERV bases were also designed with the understanding that they would be damaged. To this end, NERV bases are all designed with modularity in mind; if a section of the base was destroyed, another copy of that section would be waiting at a storehouse. it could be shipped out in a day and fitted in within an hour. It was this kind of clever 'standardised architecture' that allowed Paris-2 to be cheaply rebuilt after countless devastating battles.

And so, Federation strategists, when faced with the challenge of building a starbase in orbit within a very limited period of time, decided that they would load the needed components for a fully functioning NERV base onto an all-terrain warship, fire it into space, then assemble them there. Once assembled, the base could be outfitted with new barrier generators, jamming systems and some weaponry.

The UN was unlikely to accept this intrusion without response, however. Federation strategists predicted that a UN attack on the location would occur very shortly after assembly began. Thus, a powerful military presence would be needed to safeguard the constructor crews until the base was fully operational.

Situation Report

Special Circumstances

Special Circumstances
Limited Data. There is limited data about this situation, and so there will be fog of war.
Superior Leadership. There is a possibility that the enemy will have a superior leader.
Vatican Treaty. Space is considered 'neutral' by the treaty (although an exception is made for a zone around Taghba). Both sides may only deploy three Evangelions.
Powerful Enemy. There is a chance we may be facing powerful enemies, such as a Battleship or an Evangelion.
Far from Home. Halved Feature Points, rounded down.
WIP. Starbase One is in the process of being built. It starts with 10 Magnitude, and has four special 'Constructor' specialists. Each turn, a Constructor provides +5 Magnitude to the base. Attacks against the Starbase will be allocated toward a random Constructor instead. The mission ends one turn after the base has been finished. If a Constructor has been destroyed, your deployed Capital Ship will be able to replace it. It may do this twice. If all Constructors have been destroyed, but the base is not yet finished, then the mission is automatically a failure.
Mothership. A Capital Ship- either the Dorian or the Bell- must be deployed on this mission.

Advice

Actor Dialogue
Marianne2.png?raw=1 "Space may seem like open territory, but all that darkness can hide a lot of problems. Space debris litters the region, which can cause major problems. Furthermore, some areas are still subject to lingering S2 Radiation, which can interfere with sensors and do dangerous things to people exposed to it. There are also reports of the afteraffects of between three to four solar flares in your vicinity."
Alphonse3.png?raw=1 "The enemy here has the advantage of numbers- the large number of fighter and bomber craft can pose a major problem to all of our forces, and we know how dangerous those bombers can be in close range. They also have a lot of Superheavies and, what's worse, a capital ship as well. They'll probably outnumber us in Evas too. In essence, this is a dangerous force. We should do whatever we can to maximise our advantages and separate our foes to deal with them one by one. Equipment which boosts our ability to land hits, such as markerlights, should be a priority."
Minerva%20Linden.png?raw=1 "We're extremely limited here by our lack of void-capable units, and we have next to no assets in the vicinity. I would recommend dispatching the //Dorian here over the Bell in order to take advantage of the D-Titan units attached. The Wizard Army may be vulnerable here- they might be good for an attack on the enemy capital ship, but do we really have the resources to spare? I suspect they'd be destroyed before they got close."//
Liu%20Lin.png?raw=1 "Gadhavi again. Gadhavi's a stubborn ox, and his forces won't be easily dismayed. Furthermore, he can be quite flexible as a leader, and improves his subordinates' chances of executing complex plans and tactics. Remember, though, that Gadhavi's greatest threat is his talent for hunting Evangelions and Superheavies- and right now he's in his element."
Misato3.png?raw=1 "We only have two E-Type units… That's not good, we're limited with our Evangelions… Many ranged weapons fire longer in space, so a Sniper might be useful. Alternatively we may want a good Pointman so we can cover Starbase One. The enemy's also gonna be faster than us, so a slow unit might be screwed. It might be time to call out Vercy's special friend…"
