Missions

Missions are the primary engine that drives the campaign. They are combat missions that take place on strategic E-Scale maps, waged between armies, Evas and Superheavies. Success at missions will bring the UEF closer to its goals, whilst failures will drive it to ruin. Below is the anatomy of a mission, in which all the details of a mission are found: Name, Turning Points, Local Allies, Valid Resources, Allocation, Special Circumstances, Victory/Defeat Effects, Advice, and the Battle Map.

Mission Name

This passage notes a Mission's name. Each Mission has a unique name.

Turning Points

Each Mission has a collection of Turning Points, which are special objectives that need to be accomplished in the course of the Mission. Every Mission lasts for 10 rounds, and at the end of those 10 rounds, the Mission ends, and any accomplished Turning Points are counted up. If the number of accomplished Turning Points is greater than the number of unsuccessful Turning Points, then the Mission is counted as a victory, and you gain a number of Resource Points equal to the number of Turning Points achieved. Otherwise, the Mission is a failure; failed missions often come with failure consequences, and no Resource Points are gained from failed Missions.

Turning Points often fall into a few categories:

Turning Point Categories
Defend a Fortress or Eva Base. This place must not be allowed to fall into enemy hands whatsoever and must not be destroyed.
Destroy or Rout the enemy forces by reducing their total Horde Magnitude to 50% or lower than their total strength. Count Routed Horde Magnitude as 'destroyed' so long as they're still Routing at the end of the 10th Round.
Hunt an object, unit or army. If tasked with hunting an army, then the Point is achieved when that unit's total Magnitude is at 50% or lower. This Turning Point is considered achieved if an enemy object or unit never appeared on the map, but not if it appeared and then fled.
Protect an object, unit or army. If tasked with protecting an army, then that army is considered protected so long as its total Magnitude is at 50% or higher.
Secure Turning Points require your forces to control a Fortress or Eva Base. It does not matter how long a Fortress or Base is held for; so long as the point is yours at the end of the 10th Round, you gain the Turning Point.

Local Allies

This section lists the local forces that will be present for the battle, organised by army. These forces are not drawn from your Resources, but may still be commanded by you in battle.

Valid Resources

This section lists which Resources may be deployed on this Mission. Generally, most Missions will not let you deploy every Resource you have, since it wouldn't make sense for, say, an infantry division in Russia to suddenly show up for a battle in Texas.

Allocation

In this section, you record which Leaders (ODs, Tacticians etc) Evas, Superheavies and Horde Armies you are deploying on the Mission.

Every Leader (OD, Tactician etc) deployed to the mission must be assigned to either an Army, Superheavy squad, or the Evas. The Armies, Superheavy Squads and Eva squads may not have more than one attached Leader each. Leaders may be deployed to Local Allied forces unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Leaders with Followers may assign their Followers to lead other armies if the Followers in question have the Tactician trait or Great Leader talent.

Finally, once Leaders have been allocated, select one deployed OD to be the Supreme Commander. Supreme Commanders gain 1 Conditional Fate for the duration of this Mission, and may furthermore donate a Fate Point to one of the other ODs present. Supreme Commanders may issue Tactics to any allied unit, but they take a -10 penalty on top the usual penalties for doing so. They may also apply some special abilities to the forces deployed.

Special Circumstances

This lists any special circumstances that might modify how the battle performs. A list of examples is below.

Special Circumstance examples
Delayed Circumstances mean that your deployed Resources, bar ODs, will take time to arrive to the battle. At the start of Round 2, the Supreme Commander tests Command or Tactics with a -60 penalty. On a success, and for every 3 extra degrees of success, one of your Resources arrive at a deployment point. On a failure, no Resources arrive. At the start of every subsequent turn, the Supreme Commander continues to take this test, reducing the penalty by 10 every time- so in Round 4 they will test with a -40 penalty, and at Round 5 they will test with a -30.
Elite Circumstances mean that the enemy forces are particularly dedicated and skilled. All enemy forces, bar Dysangelions and Divine Evas have +10 to all Characteristics for this Mission only.
Enemy Reinforcements mean that the enemy has extra units on the way. The average turn at which they arrive is listed as is their expected force composition (usually; sometimes this is not available). At the start of Round 2, the Enemy Supreme Commander tests Command or Tactics with a -40 penalty. On a success, one of their forces arrives on the battlefield. On a failure, no forces arrive. At the start of every subsequent turn, the Supreme Commander continues to take this test, reducing the penalty by 10 every time- so in Round 4 they will test with a -10 penalty, and at Round 5 they will test with a -0.
Limited Data Circumstances mean that the map is shrouded in fog of war. Units may only see a number of KM equal to their Perception Bonus, but have shared vision.
Powerful Enemy mean that there is a chance of this battle having a particularly powerful foe appear, such as a Dysangelion, Divine Evangelion or an enemy Battleship.

Victory/Defeat Effects

This section lists any special outcomes that happen if the battle is a victory or a defeat. Some victory examples include adding special Resources to your list, such as new Hordes. Defeat examples can include triggering an extra Mission next turn, or improving the difficulty of a Mission that was already going to happen.

Advice

This section lists strategic and tactical advice granted by your advisors. There are five advisors, and they each give a different type of advice.

Advisors
Marianne Amatore-DeForest offers advice on the terrain of the battlefield, and how it can best be used to your advantage.
Alphonse Wellesley will analyse our enemies' forces, and advise you on their strengths and weaknesses.
Minerva Linden will analyse our forces, ODs and local allies, and advise you on their strengths and weaknesses.
Liu Lin will analyse the enemy commanders, and advise you on how best to defeat them.
Misato Katsuragi will offer advice on which Evangelions or Superheavy squads to deploy, and what to equip them with. She will also offer strategies on defeating enemy Dysangelions or Divine Evas.
