[12:24] <Minaplo> The art club was smaller than it used to be- of the people who'd first arrived, about 70% still remained. It seems that Levi's bombastic introduction- which had been followed up with other equally bombastic carry throughs- had done work.-
[12:26] <Minaplo> But this session he was quiet. Subdued, perhaps. He paced between the aisles, adding the odd comment here and there, before he arrived at Dinah's side, where he grabbed a chair, pulled it up next to her and dropped down.
[12:26] <Minaplo> "Show me your masterpiece. It better be inspiring as fuck because none of these motherfuckers got art going on today."
[12:47] <Dinah> With everything else Dinah was going through, Levi being a little weird barely even registered on her radar. It wasn't like she was going to get scared away on some antics, nor was it likely that she was going to find a different club to join because that took a degree of effort she wasn't ready to invest in. And it wasn't like she didn't like the Art Club anyway. It was a nice enough escape.
[12:47] <Dinah> Perhaps in a cheeky sort of manner, it was also an excuse to go back over some of the things she'd experienced. It wasn't like she could get called out for them, after all, right? So her 'masterpiece' of the day was a depiction of a playground, the same one she'd ripped a reign of terror through, which was illustrated as much. Well, perhaps exaggerated. Moths, large ones but distinctly not mothmen, were scattered around, crumpled and smashed, with her putting the finishing touches on one, with a few sketches showing where a couple others were going to go.
[12:47] <Dinah> With a sniff, she leaned back as Levi came by and gestured to it, giving a little shrug as she did. "Nothin' special."
[12:53] <Minaplo> "See, you're half right, your technique's pretty basic but your imagery's off the chain from everyone else. Like, a fucked up playground with dead moths? Is it a memento mori?"
[12:59] <Dinah> "You could say that." Again, she shrugged, leaning back in to resume her sketching. "I just don't like Moths."
[01:04] <Minaplo> "Moths are fucking weird. They're like butterflies but instead of being all cool and pretty and shit, they just hang out in your closet eating clothes and hiding from light. They're like the otaku of the insect world."
[01:04] <Minaplo> "… You ever hear about the sexual customs of the Ornate Moth?"
[01:42] <Dinah> "What in the world makes you think I would know about that?"
[01:42] <Minaplo> "You seem like kind of the person who knows random shit about stuff."
[01:46] <Dinah> "Thanks, I guess?" She thought about that for a moment but shook her head. "Dunno that that's me, though. But regardless, no, don't know a lot about Moths. They're just assholes."
[01:49] <Minaplo> "I hear ya. Used to have a moth phobia when I was a kid."
[01:54] <Dinah> "It's not a phobia. I just hate them."
[01:58] <Minaplo> "Not about you, that line. I used to have a phobia of 'em because they were assholes, and now I hate the hate version of a phobia. Dunno what the word for that is. A moth antipathy, maybe."
[01:58] <Minaplo> "… So I drew a thing."
[02:02] <Dinah> "A moth vendetta." Nodding to that, she leaned back again and lifted a brow, looking over to him then. "Yeah?"
[02:03] <Minaplo> "Wait. Wait."-
[02:03] <Minaplo> His eyes lit up. "An animothity."
[02:04] <Dinah> She rubbed the bridge of her nose and sighed. "I'm regretting this."
[02:13] <Minaplo> "That one was pretty good. Anyway, look at this."-
[02:15] <Minaplo> He handed her his sketchpad, which was not exactly imaginative. It was two vignettes- one was Dinah suplexing Asaka whilst Sachiko depantsed him; the other was Karo Nakajima, bandoliers of grenades and ammo slung across his chest, throwing a bomb into a bunker.
[02:27] <Dinah> Taking the sketchpad, she looked it over and looked from it to him and then back to it. And then back to him.
[02:27] <Dinah> "These are some pretty…specific instances."
[02:41] <Minaplo> "Came to me in a dream."
[02:46] <Dinah> She narrowed her eyes a bit at that. "Please don't tell me that you're dreaming about me."
[04:14] <Minaplo> "I'm not happy about it either." Said Levi.-
[04:15] <Minaplo> "But no, that was just me playing into the ~ooo kwazy~ thing, look at this boy, ~affected by the moon presence~ bullshit. I just was bored and doodled some school drama, but in a cool way."
[04:27] <Dinah> "The…moon presence?"
[04:28] <Minaplo> "The moon cycle, I guess? I dunno, people are weird about mental health."
[05:06] <Dinah> Shaking her head for a moment as she let it clear from her mind, she looked at the pictures again and frowned, looking at the whole of it. "I wouldn't be suplexing Asaka, but the way. I actually know how to throw people his size down. It's a lot easier."
[05:07] <Minaplo> "Fuckin' pray tell."
[05:13] <Dinah> "It's more about, using their weight and shit against them. So like…" With a huff, she thought about it for a minute and then flipped a page in her sketchbook to a blank one. Drawing two figures roughly, she had the one reaching for the other's arm. "So it's about weight distribution and extension. So first step it getting a hold of their arm. You can catch a punch or just grab 'em."-
[05:16] <Dinah> Pausing then, she bobbed her head back and forth and started drawing two more figures. "So you can go about it a couple ways here. I like doin' it this way 'cause it works better." The arm was past the other figure then and a leg was drawn behind theirs. Finally, drawing a third set saw an arm across the chest of the one figure, pushing them while the leg tripped them up. "So you swing a leg out behind them, apply a little force since they're already off-balance and boom."-
[05:16] <Dinah> She drew a last set, the one flat on its back with impact lines as the other stood over top, victorious. "Dropped like a rock. And without throwing your back out."
[05:19] <Minaplo> "Genius. You know… This gives me an idea. You know how other fuckers do figure drawing, and it's usually people posing or like, nudes? What if we did figure drawing but it's like… You kicking people's asses?"
[05:57] <Dinah> "I could be down for that. Any excuse to kick a little ass."-
[05:58] <Dinah> She rolled her shoulders again some and flicked her wrist as she threat out her idea. "I'm in the Wushu class and I was teaching throws one time. Could try it again for a display."
[05:59] <Minaplo> "Makes sense. Anyone's ass in particular you feel like kicking at the moment?"
[06:02] <Dinah> "Oh yeah." It was almost a snarl as she almost snapped her pencil in her hand. "Adrien."
[06:02] <Minaplo> "Show me. On the paper."
[06:24] <Dinah> For a moment, she almost froze, like she was surprised by the request. "Kinda…putting me on the spot, aren't you?"
[06:26] <Minaplo> "People think art is this beautiful, elegant thing, a muse like a nude woman, her fair skin dappled with nothing but the morning dew. Artistic inspiration is actually a seven foot tall linebacker with two sledgehammers telling you Mr. Sharp wants his money or your kneecaps and doesn't care which."
[06:33] <Dinah> The reality was that it was something of a wealth of choice, that she had considered several situations of beating the hell out of Adrien. What was the one she would actually go with, provided the chance? "Hrm." -
[06:40] <Dinah> She flipped to an empty page in her sketchbook and tapped her pencil against the paper for a second. "Draw what you know, I guess." She started the sketch then, which turned out to be an amalgamation of various scenes. Dinah on Adrien, punching him in the face with what looked like grave stones nearby. A scene in a classroom where Dinah was very obviously breaking Adrien's leg with a well-placed kick. A scene of Dinah strangling him in a cityscape. A scene of Dinah wrenching his arm and slamming his face into a wall.-
[06:41] <Dinah> Rough sketches but just enough to deliver the message easily enough. At the last one, she pulled back, angling the book so Levi could see.
[06:50] <Minaplo> "Personal fantasy, or the concept art for an Arkham Asylum game? Who can say?" Said Levi drily. "Interesting… You know, you have a real good kinaesthetic sense, don't you? You 'get' the human body."
[06:57] <Dinah> "Yeah. Training and shit made me think about it. Back in the States, I had a class with some people I worked with and it got me thinkin' about why the throws and shit worked. You just start to piece it together in your head, you know? Like," she tapped the last picture she sketched, "the arm can't bend that way but it can break. So you have to think about the right amount of pressure to use it as an anchor."
[07:01] <Minaplo> "Interesting. Interesting." He was nodding, his eyes focused on her sketches. "So if I showed you a figure drawing someone made without a reference, you'd be able to spot, like, if the anatomy was off? Like if someone's leg was really bendy, you'd be able to go 'No, that'd break it'?"
[07:03] <Dinah> "Probably, yeah."
[07:04] <Minaplo> "Right. And a lot of these acts, you've done yourself? Punched a dude in a… Cemetery?"
[07:10] <Dinah> "A girl."
[07:12] <Minaplo> "Natch, my bad for assuming. Aight. I know you like working on your own project, but if I asked you to draw a thing for me in your own time, or even in your next art time, would you be cool?"
[07:15] <Dinah> "That wouldn't be too bad, I guess. It's hard to think of what to draw sometimes. So having an idea and trying to figure out how to do it would be a better problem to have for once."
[07:30] <Minaplo> "Then I'm thinking… Let's start simple. I'd like you to draw a picture of yourself beating the shit outta Asaka, and make sure there's a mirror in the picture. The mirror doesn't need anything in it."
[07:30] <Dinah> "Why a mirror?"
[07:32] <Minaplo> "Well ultimately, my plan is, after that we go back to the picture and refine it a little, so step two might be you drawing Asaka bullying you or someone else in the mirror. So it's like what's happening with you is a reaction to his actions. Basically, if he hadn't been a dick he wouldn't gotten punched."
[07:40] <Dinah> "Huh." The wheels were already turning in her head, plotting out possibilities and the like. It was a little….strange to think about Asaka that way after what had happened but at the same time, she wasn't too bothered by it. "I think I can do that."
[07:42] <Minaplo> "Hell yeah. I figure when the time comes I can give you some pointers and tips on how to improve your perspective work. Meanwhile, I'll use your work to understand the body better. Sound good?"
[07:49] <Dinah> "Sounds like a plan."
[07:51] <Minaplo> "Fuckin' nice."
