Fusion

Persona Fusion

Persona Fusion is the process of combining two or three Personas into a new, more powerful form. It is an essential way for Evokers to gain more power in the face of ever-growing challenges. Fusion can only be done by Igor in the Velvet Room.

There are two types of fusion: Binary Fusion and Trinary Fusion. Both work off the same basic rules, but with some differences on detail between them.

Nonetheless, the basics are simple: the Evoker takes two or three Personas, and merges them - essentially losing them- in order to gain a new Persona, more powerful than the last, with the identity based on the Evoker's Arcana lists.

Binary Fusion

Binary Fusion is the most basic fusion, and simply entails taking two Personas and fusing them together. It has four steps:

  • Selecting your Personas,
  • Determining the Arcana of the fused Persona,
  • Determining the Grade of the fused Persona,
  • And Learning an Ability and Knack from the fused Persona.

Select Donors

This simple step requires you to simply choose two different Personas from your stock to be the donors.

Determine Arcana

The Arcana of the fused Persona depends on the donors. Since this is a fusion of two Personas, the fused Persona belongs to the Evoker's 'third' Arcana, ie. The Arcana that did not donate a Persona to the fusion.

  • Example: if Alex's Arcanae are Empress, Emperor and Hierophant, and they selected Bastet (Empress) and Romulus (Emperor), then the resulting Persona will be a Hierophant.

If the two donors belong to the same Arcana, then the fused Persona belongs to that Arcana as well.

  • Example: If Alex were to instead select Bastet (Empress) and Yaksini (Empress), then the resulting Persona would also be an Empress.

Determine Grade

In this step, we determine the Grade of the Persona- which, when combined with the Arcana, gives us the exact result of the fusion.

First, you take the Grade of the two donors and add them together. You then divide by two (resulting in an average), rounding the result down to a whole number, then add one. The resulting number is the Grade of your fused Persona.

Once you have determined the Grade, cross-reference with the Arcana. The result is your new Persona.

  • Example: Alex fuses Bastet and Romulus, both Grade 1. The result is 1+1=2, which is divided by 2 to get 1. You then add +1 to the result to get a final of 2. This means a Persona of the Hierophant Arcana, Grade 2: which is Omoikane.

If the two donors belong to the same Arcana, then follow the rules above, but with the following exceptions: if the product of a fusion would be identical to one of the donors, then reduce the final Grade by one. If this would also result in the fused Persona sharing a form with a donor, reduce the Grade by 1 again. If this ever results in a Grade of 0 or lower, then fusion is impossible.

  • In this way, it's impossible for Binary to fuse two Personas of the same Arcana to produce an Arcana of a higher grade than either. Fusing two donors the same Arcana is really only useful for collecting Personas 'between' the two, ie. A grade 2 and a grade 4 result in a grade 3.

Learn Abilities and Knacks

Once the new Persona has been fused, you may select a single Ability and a single Knack from the Persona's Ability and Knack Lists and add it to your character's respective Pools.

Trinary Fusion

Trinary Fusion is more complex than Binary Fusion, but results in more powerful Personas. It too has four steps, as above:

  • Selecting your Personas,
  • Determining the Arcana of the fused Persona,
  • Determining the Grade of the fused Persona,
  • And Learning Abilities and Knacks from the fused Persona.

Select Donors

This simple step requires you to simply choose three different Personas from your stock to be the donors.

Determine Arcana

The Arcana of the fused Persona depends on the donors. If one Arcana is not represented by the donors, then the resulting Persona is of that Arcana. If all three Arcanae are represented by the donors, then the Evoker may choose the Arcana to which the fused Persona belongs.

If all three donors are of the same Arcana, then the fused Persona belongs to that Arcana as well.

Determine Grade

This step follows on in a way similar to Binary.

Note the grades of the three donors. Add the three together then divide by 3 (finding the average), rounding the result down to a whole number, then add two. The resulting number is the Grade of your Fused Persona.

Once you have determined the Grade, cross-reference with the Arcana. The result is your new Persona. Do note, however, that the product of fusion cannot be a form shared by one of the donors- in normal fusion, the only place where this applies is fusing three Grade 10 Personas of three different Arcanas, and so fusing those three is impossible.

If the three donors all belong to the same Arcana, then follow the rules above, but with the following exceptions: if the product of a fusion would be identical to one of the donors, then increase the final Grade by one. If this would also result in the fused Persona sharing a form with a donor, increase the Grade by 1 again. If this ever results in a Grade above 10, then fusion is impossible and cannot be done.

Learn Abilities and Knacks

Once the new Persona has been fused, you may select two Abilities and two Knacks from the Persona's Ability and Knack Lists and add them to your character's respective Pools.
