My School President Is Recruiting Me With A Fast Foo

[14:35] <Sachiko> Wednesday's classes had ended an hour ago, and Sophia Academy was still humming with energy and students. A lot of that seemed to be down to the fact that clubs were still handling admissions, but here and there seemed to be pockets of teenagers just loitering and talking.-
[14:35] <Sachiko> Sachiko was not one of them. She'd handled her one club the day before, and… Persona Mysteries for a few more days prior to that, and she had no intention of staying at school any longer than she'd had to now that she'd borrowed a few books from the library. She had her headphones off for once, dangling around her neck, and her attention was on her phone as she crossed the grounds on
[14:35] <Sachiko> her way to the bus stop.
[14:46] <@PersonaGM> [The quiet rumble of a slightly underpowered car would enter her perception. A plain, grey car pulled up slowly next to her. Caolán Choi rolled down the window and said, "Can I offer you another lift, Ms. Kurata?"]
[14:48] <PersonaGM> [The quiet rumble of a slightly underpowered car would enter her perception. A plain, grey car pulled up slowly next to her. Caolán Choi rolled down the window and said, "Can I offer you another lift, Ms. Kurata?"]
[15:03] * Sachiko raised an eyebrow and came over to lean against the window frame. "Is chauffeuring part of the job description on Student Council?"
[15:05] <PersonaGM> ["Sometimes." Said Choi seriously. "But not in this case. This isn't student council business. Just me being spiteful."]
[15:08] * Sachiko stared for a moment, then gave him an unusually bright smile. "Well then," she said, opening the door, "I can respect that."
[15:10] <PersonaGM> [Choi's car was old, and almost certainly second hand, but to his credit he kept it studiously tidy and clean. Even the smell was pleasant.-[15:12] <PersonaGM> [Once Sachiko was safely inside, Choi put the car into drive and headed off.-
[15:13] <PersonaGM> ["How were your classes?"]
[15:25] <Sachiko> "My classes were fine," she said lightly. "Unremarkable. Were yours any better?"
[15:30] <PersonaGM> ["Unremarkable?" Said Choi. "So you didn't have English today, is what I'm hearing?"]
[15:34] * Sachiko leaned into the back of her chair and carefully rolled her shoulders, trying to hide the wince this prompted. "Ah, so we're talking teachers and not curriculum."
[15:34] <PersonaGM> ["Not even your school president is preppy enough to consider curricula good discussion fodder."]
[15:36] <Sachiko> "Never?" she asked.
[15:38] <PersonaGM> ["Not never." He admitted. "It depends on the class, of course."-
[15:41] <PersonaGM> ["I haven't spent much time this week willingly thinking about the curriculum, though." Said Choi. "And in English, any day where I can avoid Mr. Bash's water mortar is a good day for me."]
[15:49] <Sachiko> "If you call him that you're only encouraging him."-
[15:49] <Sachiko> She finished stretching and looked over at him properly. "So what have you been thinking about, then?"
[15:51] <PersonaGM> ["This debacle over Asaka."-
[15:52] <PersonaGM> ["Hey, do you want me to take you straight home, or do I have time to grab something to eat on the way?"]
[16:00] <Sachiko> Sachiko watched him with the sort of polite, clinical interest that seemed to see straight through people.-
[16:00] <Sachiko> "Sure," she said finally, turning her attention back to the road. "Whatever you want."
[16:07] <PersonaGM> ["Thank you."-
[16:08] <PersonaGM> [There was a Shin Sandwich House nearby, and it was towards here that Choi now turned.-
[16:09] <PersonaGM> ["I think I glimpsed you yesterday at the club signups. What did you end up going with?"]
[16:16] <Sachiko> "Debate," she said. "I don't really know how it'll go, but I'm under orders to be in at least one."
[16:22] <PersonaGM> ["Good choice." Said Choi. "I think you've picked according to your strengths."]
[16:23] <Sachiko> "Oh yeah?" she asked. She was looking at him again now. "And what are those?"
[16:30] <PersonaGM> ["Based on your conduct on the first day, from what I've seen and what I've heard, you maintain a clear head and can think on the fly when it comes to bolstering your side of the argument. You're capable of instilling resolve in your speech even in intimidating circumstances, and you take only a little time to organise your thoughts into a coherent thrust."]
[16:48] <Sachiko> "Hm. A very diplomatic way of saying I like to argue," she said with a smirk.
[16:50] <PersonaGM> [Choi scoffed. "Please. Lots of people like to argue. The difference is I think you're good at it," He said, before giving her a small grin of his own.-
[16:50] * Sachiko laughed.
[16:53] <PersonaGM> [Choi's grin widened a little at that. "Debate Club'll look after you. Especially if it means a chance to beat Kyoto this year."-
[16:53] <PersonaGM> ["But, one club instead of two- that means an opportunity for me. And an opportunity for you, as well. I'd like to offer you a job."]
[16:59] <Sachiko> "A job?" she said, and this seemed to amuse her more than anything else. "What, you want me for Student Council?"
[17:05] <PersonaGM> ["Yes, but not in the way you're probably thinking." Said Choi. "A temporary, ad-hoc position. Let me level with you: this mess with Asaka has taken the Council entirely by surprise. Not in the sense that we thought he was innocent- Asaka and I hate one another- but in the sense that it triggered before we were ready for it. It's thrown Council into chaos."-
[17:08] <PersonaGM> ["So we're doing our best to adapt to the situation. And one of the things students have been demanding for a week now is a process by which victims and complainants can submit their stories to the Council in an official, confidential manner. I was hoping to ask you to be a part of the process. Hearing stories and drawing the details out of them. It'd last until the situation was resolved, but during that time you'd have the perks of being a Councillor."]
[17:20] * Sachiko listened to all this patiently. "Alright. And once you do that, what's your endgame?"
[17:24] <PersonaGM> ["We'd review the testimonies and present the collated data to the principal, and to the academy senate if necessary." Said Choi. "The Council can't be seen to take sides, but our mandate is to protect students, and privately I think the bastard's guilty as sin. I'll try to push the 'protect the student' mandate as far as I can… It's still an uphill battle, though. It's possible, some might say likely, that you could do work for us and we'd still have a bad outcome."]
[17:38] <Sachiko> "Of course he's guilty."-
[17:39] <Sachiko> "Look, this is why you might not want me for a leadership position," she sighed. "It seems like it's more about giving the appearance of the system working rather than a concrete, achievable outcome, and I don't know that's a good basis to ask people to offer some really personal testimony."
[17:45] <PersonaGM> [Choi nodded, his expression pensive.-
[17:54] <PersonaGM> ["It's not ideal." He said. "And I want the Council to do all it can. But we're short on resources, time and people. And we need people of talent right now in order to achieve solid outcomes instead of mere appearances, but the fact that we're struggling to make progress is keeping the people we need to make progress away. So I'm willing to come off as desperate if that's what it takes. I think you've got ability, and you'll be motivated to act as an engaged advocate for the testimonies you hear. If you have an idea on how to work the process so that it's more likely to work, then you'll have free rein to make it happen."]
[18:18] * Sachiko shrugged. "No need to be desperate. I wasn't going to say no."-
[18:18] <Sachiko> "Just understand that if it comes down to representing the council and school or representing the people coming forward, it's going to be the latter. If we're on the same page there, I'll work out the rest."
[18:22] <PersonaGM> ["Good. I wouldn't have it any other way." Said Choi. "If it gets to the point where the Council is prioritising self-preservation over the student body, then it's not worth keeping around, and I'll expect you to remind me of that if it happens."]
[18:24] <Sachiko> "Easy."
[18:27] <PersonaGM> ["Excellent." Said Choi as he pulled into the Shin Sandwich parking lot. Once he parked, he offered Sachiko a hand to shake. "Then we have a deal."]
[18:33] <Sachiko> And Sachiko did! Choi might notice her hand seemed to be trembling slightly, but she paid this no mind.
[18:35] <PersonaGM> [And if he noticed, he kept it to himself.-
[18:36] <PersonaGM> [ Thou art I; I art thou.-
[18:36] <PersonaGM> [ Thou hast glimpsed a new path of thine heart, with which to rewrite your story.-
[18:36] <PersonaGM> [ //The first draft of the Emperor Arcana has been written; its refinement will bring you new power in the world to come.-
[18:37] <PersonaGM> ["Good." He pulled his hand back.-
[18:38] <PersonaGM> ["Now. Can I interest you in a sandwich? I buy this time, and you can buy for me sometime later. I'm not made of money."]
[18:42] * Sachiko smiled again. "I can pay if you need."
[18:44] <PersonaGM> ["Oh, good." Said Choi. "That works out. Give me your order real quick…"]
[19:03] <Sachiko> Sachiko made it a little more complicated than she'd usually order, just to keep Choi on his toes.
