[05:55] <Yanmei> From this vantage point, one could get a better view of the damage done to the area of Paris. The building itself was, in fact, surrounded by a few burned out-husks, and had a few scorch marks of its own - although they didn't reach quite this high. -
[05:59] <Yanmei> Zhang Yanmei waited on the rooftop of this now-abandoned location, hunched over slightly, a gloomy look on her face as she peered down at the LCD display of a brand new phone. It just… wasn't the same.
[06:13] * Sept turned up wearing a long crimson overcoat to guard against the cold winds. It might've been a bit flashy for his usual tastes, but he didn't have much use for blending in, Paris being in the state it was. It was a slightly more formal attire, but nothing entirely out of the ordinary. "Hello, Yanmei. How's everything?"
[06:16] <Yanmei> "Hello, de Pteres." Yanmei's own coat was white, likely easy to spot in it's own right, especially under this overcast sky. "Everything's… fine." She looked up from her phone at last. "How have you been?"
[06:18] * Aline was wearing her own jacket and pants as she arrived last, trailing a bit behind Sera - enough so that it was clear they didn't arrive together. The dark clothing contrasted her hair and skin, and made her look somewhat different(-er) from the others. "Ah, hi…"
[06:19] <Minaplo> [William was sitting off to the side- he'd escorted Yanmei, apparently- wearing his black greatcoat buttoned up. He walked over and sat down on one of the concrete barriers. He gave Aline a smile and a nod.]
[06:23] <Sept> "'Fine'," Sera nodded, and turned to take in a different part of the view for one more moment before Aline arrived. "Hi. I heard you handled yourself well out there."
[06:24] * Aline waved her hand somewhat. "Well enough. I get the sense that I missed something important, though, hence us meeting again so soon…" She looked a bit disappointed at that, actually.
[06:26] <Yanmei> "Welcome back, in any case. What have you heard so far?"
[06:30] * Aline shook her head. "Some things about living shadows, the Dirac Sea, and this one bit about a… sandwich, that the new troops were talking about?"
[06:37] <Sept> "Yeah, I think that last one's under control now. But yeah, we got lost in the Sea for a while…"
[06:40] * Yanmei eyed Sept curiously at that, but decided to follow up. "There was an Angel that slipped into the Geofront and spread a Dirac Sea that covered the entire facility. Shadows coming alive and trying to kill people were a part of that. As were pretty flagrant bendings of time and space. The Angel made it all the way to Terminal Dogma before we were able to stop it."
[06:43] <Aline> "Eesh. As if making it into the Geofront itself hadn't been bad enough." Aline now frowned a little. "How flagrant is flagrant, anyway? Just sort of curious, I might have a better idea of what went on in there, considering my background."
[06:45] <Sept> "It was more of an Angelic hell gauntlet that just happened to visually remind you of the Geofront than the actual Geofront. There were vacuums involved. Might as well have been black holes."
[06:48] * Aline resisted an urge to comment on the black hole bit from a scientific accuracy point of view, instead just slowly nodding. "Ah. I must've gotten off fairly lightly with what I went through, maybe. Maybe not."
[06:50] <Yanmei> "Being shot down into a horde of spawn and zombies doesn't sound all that light? But I suppose there were no t-rexes chasing you."
[06:53] <Minaplo> ["Plural, by the way."]
[06:54] * Aline snickered. "A /T-rex/. Really. Well, there were these giant spawns with light beams or something that seemed almost immune to everything but snipers and anti-armor missiles, does that count?"
[06:55] <Sept> "They probably do. We managed to avoid having to take any of the bigger monsters on ourselves, after all."
[06:58] * Yanmei nodded, frowning at the description. "London's still overrun even now, isn't it?"
[07:01] * Aline nodded a bit glumly. "Yeah, we barely managed to escape."
[07:02] <Yanmei> "Even with the riots going on, we had a lower death toll here. Maybe we're the ones who got off lightly."
[07:04] <Sept> "We're all alive, after all."
[07:06] <Aline> "Right…" Aline trailed off with.
[07:10] * Yanmei was quiet for a moment or two, just thinking. "I guess we can talk about it here, since there's no one around. While we were wandering around the Geofront, we ended up someplace… interesting."
[07:12] * Aline blinked rather widely at that. "Interesting…?"
[07:12] <Sept> "Outside the Geofront. Outside the planet, for that matter. There was a… computer of the Exarch's there."
[07:14] * Aline raised a brow rather significantly. "…That would qualify."
[07:16] <Yanmei> "Yeah. So we asked it about our FAR identities and about our circumstances here on Earth. It seemed disapproving about our war. Or, like, our reasons for even being on the same planet as the Angels."
[07:19] <Sept> "It said the whole point of breaking up the FAR into the Seeds was to prepare for a different war against a common enemy. And that -we- weren't supposed to end up here."
[07:23] * Aline nodded. "Well, yeah. This /is/ the Angels' world by plan, even if it's ours by history. It's a complicated and messy situation for sure, but… mm. I'm not /entirely/ surprised, then. I've been trying to think of a solution to that myself, honestly."
[07:30] <Yanmei> "It said something about a certain Angel, too. A creature who was more familiar with the rules of war than anyone else in its past life."
[07:31] <Sept> "If we focused our resources, we could surely find a place, or even the one meant for us. We couldn't do that before since we didn't know why the Angels were after us."
[07:32] <Minaplo> ["You know, this raises an interesting point."]
[07:33] * Aline suddenly turned towards William. "…Oh?
[07:33] * Sept raised an eyebrow, shifting his footing. "Yeah?"
[07:33] <Minaplo> ["You talk about -us- needing the resources to move. But haven't the Angels had the ability to do that the whole time? Yet they seem more content to just kill us off."]
[07:37] * Aline waved a hand. "Where would they go? To them, knowing these things already, this is home. Beyond that, they've simply not thought us /worth/ negotiating with. Mostly. There's… Another matter, I feel, that might help illuminate this."
[07:38] <Sept> "I agree it's suspicious, and they're being assholes about it, but there may be circumstances. Even just the presence of the Seeds…"
[07:39] <Minaplo> ["They didn't even -try- dialogue. Unless Second Impact is Angelese for 'let's talk'." Said William darkly. "I say we wipe out the Angels that're left and shove them off to a new planet instead of moving mankind."]
[07:40] * Aline closed her eyes. "They didn't start Second Impact. We did."
[07:43] <Minaplo> ["No, don't." Said William. "That's not what I mean. Did we make Adam try to wipe out humanity? I think we actually sort of did the opposite."]
[07:44] <Sept> "Please, we can't exterminate them. And if even one was left alive, -we'd- have to live with that and they'd have four thousand years to plan, knowing we'd be reunited eventually. It'd be catastrophic."
[07:44] * Aline then opened them. "…Ah. Well… No, we didn't, but…" She blinked. "Four thousand years what?"
[07:47] <Minaplo> ["Catastrophic for them, maybe. There's no reason why we can't, actually, exterminate them."]
[07:49] <Sept> "Four thousand and sixty-nine. That's when the Exarch system we found was going to start something it called the Great Resummoning Pulse. To gather -everyone- together and be more prepared for the Enemy they were avoiding."
[07:52] * Aline shook her head. "If there were computers left behind to keep all this together, why hasn't there been some kind of attempt to remediate… this… si…tuation?" Aline was slowing down for some reason, as if she had just hit on an important notion.
[07:53] <Yanmei> "The computer can't interfere with anything outside of a certain distance. That said, the Angels -were- just planning on wiping us out without explainations. I'm not sure why we have to be the courteous ones here. Especially considering how mach damage has been done to both sides? Would they even accept a solution like the ones you're proposing?"
[07:59] <Minaplo> ["Of course they wouldn't. How would they when their initial action is to shoot first?" Asked William bitterly.]
[08:03] <Yanmei> "Well, I was referring to the fact that for most of the ones remaining, we've already murdered their soulmates and have been keeping them from being reunited with their Seed… Parent thing for a good long while. But that is also a very good point."
[08:04] * Aline sighed, feeling a bit hemmed in. "I just… think that it might work better, even if we have to force it. This is all fucked up." She was starting to get a bit twitchy, too. "Life deserves to exist, and the Angels are being rather idiotic for firing first, but there has to be some third option left, even if it's a deus ex machina."
[08:06] <Minaplo> ["There -is- a third option. Relocate the Angels. Do it in such a way that they won't be -able- retaliate in 4,000 years time."]
[08:08] * Aline blinked. "I thought you said exerminate, but… eugh. If there was a way to actually make them agree to a /truce/… but I can't imagine what."
[08:08] <Sept> "Can't just claim something's impossible and go on like it's not an option."-
[08:08] <Minaplo> ["I said exterminate the Angels. Not their Seed."]
[08:08] <Yanmei> "Hmph." Yanmei shifted, glancing around the small group and then over her shoulder.
[08:09] <Sept> "But they -would- be able to retaliate. All they need is to keep holding onto that grudge and they might sabotage not only our, but the entire FAR's plan."
[08:10] <Minaplo> ["… And how do you stop humanity from retaliating if they relocate?"]
[08:11] <Sept> "They'll listen to us."
[08:11] <Minaplo> ["They really won't."]
[08:11] * Aline shook her head again. "I… don't know how to reach humanity either. It's only worse because we /have/ to keep all these plots secret until the time of execution." A pause. She opened her mouth, and sighed again, looking upset.
[08:14] <Yanmei> "We have a responsibility to them, too," Yanmei was frowning, moving her gaze away from the city itself, and even moving inward away from the edge of the roof. "We can't just make up plans and do whatever we want because we think it's in their best interest. It makes us no better than those jerks are."
[08:17] <Sept> "A lot of them have to understand what the Angels are capable of, beyond the simple destruction they've seen. The people of Paris -must- be looking for some direction, now. They were ready to follow Ikari, too."
[08:20] * Aline honestly didn't know what to say to this. "I don't really get those kinds of things…" She once again looked pretty disappointed.
[08:21] <Minaplo> ["They were ready to support Ikari because he was killing Angels- which to them will be the simple solution." Said William. "Population relocation is never totally willing. In almost every case it involves force, coercion and bloodshed."]
[08:25] <Yanmei> "…" Yanmei's frown deepened, and she glanced around again.
[08:26] <Minaplo> [A black cat was sitting on the very corner of the building's concrete edge barrier, staring at her.]
[08:27] * Yanmei stared back at it, eyes widening slightly. Ohshit.
[08:27] <Sept> "I'm sorry. But it would still be less than losing all of them."
[08:28] <Minaplo> ["I'm not going to vote for you, Jackson, sorry."-
[08:28] * Aline was also rather disconcerted and ambient, seeming a bit detached from Sera!William talk… and noticed Yanmei turning her head - but /not/ Yanmei's expression. So she instead stared dumbly, right before…
[08:31] <Minaplo> [The cat was staring at Yanmei. It licked its paws.]
[08:33] <Aline> …Seemingly nothing happened. She turned back to Sera and William, almost content with just letting them argue, for what it was worth.
[08:37] <Yanmei> "Look, let's not resort of namecalling and crude references, eh? You two…" She was still definitely distracted, but also trying to shake it off and move forward. "Oh. I just remembered something. The Colonel said she wanted to see us for something today."
[08:38] * Aline peered at Yanmei, then at the two arguing. "…I actually had something I wanted to mention, but oh?"
[08:38] <Sept> "…" Sera was content to let that one slide, though he kept his eyes on William. "..any idea what it was about?"
[08:39] <Yanmei> "She didn't say, but we might want to head that way soon. What were you going to say, Blanc?"
[08:41] <Minaplo> [William looked back, fiddling with one of the buttons of his greatcoat.]
[08:43] <Aline> "Basically…" Aline began, /still/ looking a little bit upset… "I had been thinking about the whole right-world, wrong-world thing, and remembered something. Lilith is the one who's not supposed to be here. But… why? That's a mystery that might be at the center of everything. She's… got her own issues…" A brief shudder. "But, uh… still, the question is, 'why shirk the world you
[08:43] <Aline> were meant for?' Then further 'Why go after the world of another seed?' and 'Why this specific one?' There are only two souls that might know, and it's an either-or." She looked over them. "Lilith herself, if she was responsible, or…" Her eyes moved towards Sera. "…Her creator."
[08:45] <Minaplo> [William's eyebrows rose.-
[08:45] <Minaplo> [The cat- did it seem to get closer every time Yanmei glanced back at it?]
[08:47] <Yanmei> Did it? She tried again, glancing very subtly out of the corner of her eye. "That's a good question, actually? One the computer actually brought up too. We should get a statement from -him-. If he remembers, that is."
[08:48] <Sept> "You think he might've known about this? Maybe even planned for it?"
[08:50] <Yanmei> "It's a little much for a coincidence?"
[08:50] * Aline put her hand to her chest. "I almost get the feeling his plan might be the same plan. Some kind of… extraneous plot. After all, Evangelion is supposed to be the thing that can break through Destiny, supposed to do all these things… And only with both the fruits of Life and Knowledge can Evangelion exist - the two seeds."
[08:54] <Sept> "…interesting. We have to pursue this, too."
[08:55] * Aline nodded rather firmly. "We all do. 00 is likely to have at least a chance of knowing, though it's also a /very/ cagey unit…"
[08:59] <Sept> "I'll see what I can do. This could be very important."
[09:01] * Yanmei nodded. "Good start, good start."
[09:06] * Aline allowed herself a small smile. "Thanks for listening…"
[09:09] <Sept> "I guess there's one more thing before we go. The system confirmed William's soul is your pair, Aline. I was completely wrong about that."
[09:10] <Minaplo> [William promptly crossed himself and murmured something in latin.]
[09:12] * Yanmei suddenly because preoccupied with something else on the roof. Although it was likely that this time she was pretending to be.
[09:13] <Minaplo> [At this point the cat was almost sitting next to Yanmei, it was so close.]
[09:14] * Aline looked at Sera suddenly, and nodded. "See? I was right, right? That'd be a possible reason why I don't have memories of him."
[09:17] <Sept> "Yeah. It all fits. Leon was dead, and I assumed NERV would've had a note about still having the soul if it still existed."-
[09:18] * Sept took a deep breath. "I think it would be good for you to share a Libido Effect."
[09:26] * Aline blinked. "…Why?" The full impact seemed to have evaded her.
[09:31] <Sept> "A direct way to combat the mental stress that I think you have to deal with more than the rest of us, and for the two of you to protect each other. You're still our best link to everything about the Angels, and irreplaceable at that."
[09:38] * Aline looked… slightly insulted, albeit only slightly. "…Hey. I can handle it. I can probably handle it better than you can, at that!" But then, a beat. "Wait. How the hell do you intend to do this anyway? It's not like you just have dual-synched unit and an Angel lying around…"
[09:41] <Sept> "I'm just asking you to consider this thoroughly. You won't just throw away this chance now that we've got it, especially not out of pride, right?"
[09:43] <Aline> "You dodged the question." Aline shot back rather suddenly. She was starting to get a clue.
[09:44] <Minaplo> ["I can answer it." Said William dryly.-
[09:44] <Minaplo> ["What do you think of 'Thomas' as a baby name, Aline?"]
[09:45] * Sept looked away, annoyed, tapping the fingers of one hand together.
[09:47] * Aline …paused. Then rolled her eyes. "Right, /that/. Sera, do you have any idea what 'fidelity', 'reproductive rights', or maybe even 'moving on with your life' mean?… Those are rhetorical, by the way."
[09:55] <Sept> "Are those reasons heavy enough that you won't look back at this life and regret not taking every possible precaution? Not rhetorical. Consider the true scope of things and decide for yourself. I -never- assumed to have any right to decide this for you."
[09:56] * Aline was, rather than angry, sort of confused. "…What got you all up on this anyway?" Her head was tilted so much it was nearly sideways.
[10:05] <Sept> "Nothing! With our new information, I thought and talked it over, and I think it would be positive in the long run. We have different perspectives. I want you to consider all of them."
[10:08] * Tao||AFK has quit IRC (Quit: Bye)
[10:10] * Yanmei was backing away now, with a sigh. "Fourth wheel, here. I'll see you guys back at the Geofront?" Her eye lingered on Aline for a bit longer than usual with… concern, maybe? And then she was turning to go.
[10:11] <Minaplo> [The cat leapt down from the barrier and began to walk primly towards the elevator.]
[10:12] <Yanmei> "…" It didn't seem to deter her, anyway.
[10:12] <Sept> "New pet?"
[10:13] * Aline started inching away. "I'll… think about it, but trust my words when I say I don't like the idea all that much."
[10:14] * Yanmei sort of shrugged as the elevator doors closed to show that she was just as baffled as anyone.
[10:14] <Sept> "Very well. Go ahead, I'll take the next ride, or something."
[10:16] <Minaplo> ["It's alright, Aline." Said William soothingly. "I understand."]
[10:19] * Aline nodded, and began to head for the stairs. "I'll just walk down, I could use the exercise."
