Raphael In Kyoto

[18:09] <Raphael> If there was one thing that surprised Raphael about the train they’d been loaded onto for the trip to Kyoto, it was just how -quiet- the trip was. Below the low susurrus of the wheels racing over the tracks, the train cabins themselves were practically silent. There was none of the intermittent clattering and banging he could remember from some of older trains left around France. This
[18:09] <Raphael> was all rather helpful when one was trying to take a phone call.-
[18:10] <Raphael> "-but his condition is stable, at least. Still no word from S2 about the culprits?" Raphael asks, leaning against the wall opposite his cabin door with a mobile phone tucked against his ear. He frowns, edging further back against the wall as other passengers pass by. "No. No, I suppose not." He sighs.-
[18:10] <Raphael> "You’ll call me if the situation changes, of course?" He asks after a moment. "Right… Yes. Yes, I will. Take care of yourself, Euphrasie." He cuts the line after a final exchange of pleasantries, tucking the phone back into his pocket as he lets out another small sigh before returning to the cabin.
[18:13] <Minaplo> ["How is he?" Asked Misato, looking up from a car magazine. Opposite her, Suzie was reclining luxuriously, playing a handheld game, relaxing against Pen-Pen's blubbery bulk.]
[18:19] <Raphael> "Awake, in a fashion. He's going to be confined to bed for quite a while, and he's on a remarkable amount of pain killers, but… Well, aside from that he seems alright. He escaped with minimal head trauma, too." There's a very clear note of relief in those last words as he lowers himself into the seat next to Misato, frowning down at the floor.
[18:20] <Minaplo> ["That's good to hear! I mean, it sounds like he's set to make a full recovery eventually."]
[18:22] <Raphael> "With a bit of surgery, yes. His legs are a mess." He nods, looking up. "… No news from S2, though. If there was foul play they haven't found evidence of it."
[18:24] <Minaplo> ["Or they're keeping quiet about it." Said Misato. "S2 keeps its cards close to its chest at the best of times- unless they can prove there's no leak or chance of it they won't tell you otherwise."]
[18:32] <Raphael> "Maybe." He murmurs. For a moment something slips in his expression, revealing a flash of buried anger. "Either way, I'd appreciate a good lead.
[18:32] <Raphael> "*
[18:38] <Minaplo> [Misato pats his hand soothingly. "Hey, we're only five minutes out from Kyoto. Make sure you have your bags together, alright?"]
[18:43] <Raphael> "… Right, right." He says, putting on a smile after a moment's pause. "Sorry about that, Major."
[18:44] <Minaplo> ["Don't call me Major on holiday, or I'll have to discipline you."]
[18:45] <Raphael> "… Is that meant to dissuade me?"
[18:47] <Minaplo> ["That depends on whether you're willing to risk my creative and unusual disciplinary methods." Murmurs Misato teasingly.-
[18:47] <Minaplo> [Across from them, Suzanne and Pen-Pen share a put-upon look.]
[18:48] * Raphael seems ready to reply when he catches the look from the other two. "… Right. Bags. I'll… go see to that, then."
[20:09] <Minaplo> [Misato beamed.-
[20:15] <Minaplo> [A few minutes later, perfectly on time, the bullet train pulled into the Tokaido Shinkansen platform, disgorging its passengers out into the heart of Kyoto Station. The station itself was simply not what Raphael would expect of a 'train station'- it was more like an airport in its atmosphere. The complex was futuristic in feel, with cubic glass roofing; the corners seemed to all be rounded and made of whiter-than-white plaster and stone. Fully-fledged shopping centres, malls and eateries had been build around the platforms, turning the Station into a city all on its own.]
[20:37] * Raphael is oblivious to all of this for almost a minute as he helps Suzie onto the platform, along with their bags, before maneuvering them all away from the constant tide of travellers. Only then does he look up and take in the sheer scale of the place, his eyes widening slowly. "They take their trains quite seriously here, don't they?"
[20:41] <Minaplo> ["Kyoto's in the middle of Japan, more or less." Said Misato, cheerfully ignoring all the strange looks people were throwing at Pen-Pen. "So this station serves as a kind of hub. Besides, Kyoto -was- the provisional capital until T-2 was built."]
[20:46] * Raphael nods, smiling as he hefts the bags again and tries to be as blind to the odd looks as Misato. "So… where do we go from here? Taxis, I imagine?"
[20:53] <Minaplo> ["Nah. I managed to pull a few strings- there'll be a car waiting for us outside."]
[20:59] <Raphael> "Nicely done." He says with a grin, glancing over at Suzie. "You stay close, sweetheart, alright? I've got my hands full with these bags for the moment."
[21:00] <Minaplo> ["I could take some if you want." Said Suzie, patting her lap.]
[21:03] <Raphael> "… Hmm. If you're sure." He says, carefully placing one of the lighter bags on her lap and giving her a grin. "Are you alright until we get to the hotel? You don't need anything to eat?
[21:06] <Minaplo> ["Nah, I'm ok." Suzie was, in fact, busy taking in the station. "… It's a huge place. How many people life here, Misato?"-
[21:06] <Minaplo> ["About one and a half million. That's like, four Paris-2's."-
[21:06] <Minaplo> ["Geez."]
[21:16] * Raphael gently begins guiding Suzie towards the exit - having surreptitiously stood on his tiptoes to spot the nearest one when he was fairly sure that Misato and Suzie weren't looking - another suitcase tucked under his arm. "It's one of the cities that's basically as it was before Second Impact, too, from what I've read."
[21:19] <Minaplo> ["Wow. Most buildings in Paris-2 are all new and copied… It'll be weird…"]
[21:23] <Raphael> "It should make the city a little nicer to look at than some of the rebuilt parts of Paris, hmm?"
[21:26] <Minaplo> ["Yeah, totally!"-
[21:27] <Minaplo> ["A lot more wood." Said Misato. "Some of these buildings are older than France."-
[21:27] <Minaplo> ["Older than France? But France is really old! Like, older than a hundred years old!"]
[21:28] <Raphael> "Maybe even -two- hundred." Raphael suggests, his tone utterly solemn.
[21:29] <Minaplo> ["No way…"-
[21:29] <Minaplo> [Misato bursts into laughter. "Kyoto is over a thousand years old, Suzie."-
[21:29] <Minaplo> ["-What-?!"]
[21:35] <Raphael> "Hard to imagine, isn't it? It can be hard to find cities this old after Second Impact, but we're very lucky to still have some around."
[21:37] <Minaplo> [Suzie frowned, deep in thought, as Misato navigated them through the busy, bustling station that -anywhere- in Paris-2 would be hard to match in sheer life, even on its best days.-
[21:42] <Minaplo> [Outside, they'd find a car- and someone- waiting for them. Raphael would remember the face of Makoto Hyuga, sitting in the driver's seat of a black sedan, a chicken wrap in hand. "Hello, Major! Captain!"]
[21:56] * Raphael blinks once, giving Misato a sidelong look. He hadn't expected to see any familiar faces here, it was true, but it was hardly a problem… so long as Hyuga had already been in the area. "Good afternoon, Lieutenant," He says brightly, giving the man behind the wheel a friendly smile. "I hadn't realized you were in Kyoto."
[22:01] <Minaplo> ["I have family here, sir." He placed his chicken wrap on the dashboard and hopped out. "The Major called and asked if I'd help, and I'm always happy to do it."-
[22:01] <Minaplo> ["He's reliable, our Hyuga~" Said Misato cheerfully. "I'll have to look into getting that promotion for you at some point…"]
[22:07] * Raphael seems a little more at ease after the clarification, nodding easily. "Well, we'll try not to keep you for too long. We can hardly keep you playing chauffer on your time off." He says as he hoists the other bag off Suzie's lap and gives the girl a gently nudge. "You remember Lieutenant Makoto, right Suzie?"
[22:10] <Minaplo> ["Right! Bunny Hyuga~"-
[22:11] <Minaplo> ["That's right. Let me help you with your bags, sir."]
[22:21] * Raphael lets out a murmur of thanks and passes a couple of the bags to the Lieutenant as he begins hoisting the remaining ones into the now-open boot of the car.
[22:23] <Minaplo> [Before long they're off and down the road, which despite the large population of the city, doesn't carry a hint of congestion.-
[22:23] <Minaplo> ["So have you been to Kyoto before, sir?"]
[22:27] * Raphael turns his attention from the window, where he's getting his first real glimpse of the city. "Actually, no. I was never deployed in Japan during my time with the UN, and last time I visited the Major we kept ourselves to Tokyo."
[22:29] <Minaplo> ["That makes sense, sir. I hope you brushed up on your Japanese, though." He gave Raphael a sidelong look. "Kyoto's a big tourist city, sir, and with all due respect right now you look Japanese- there's going to be confusion."]
[22:33] * Raphael seems to hesitate at that, stealing a look at himself in the rearview mirror and glancing back at Misato with a frowm. "… I suppose there would be, come to think of it, but I'm afraid my grasp of the language is still lacking."
[22:38] <Minaplo> ["Pretend you're Korean." Said Misato with a smirk.]
[22:44] <Raphael> "Your help is indispensible, Major."
[22:48] <Minaplo> ["That won't help, everyone knows who he looks like." Says Hyuga with a frown. "Tell you what, sir. I'll teach you a phrase that means 'I don't speak Japanese, only English'."]
[22:50] * Raphael nods slowly. "That would help a great deal, Lieutenant."
[22:54] <Minaplo> [It would, thankfully, be a fairly easy sentence to learn- and before long they were parking outside of a gorgeous and venerable-looking hotel, all wood and gardens.]
[18:01] * Raphael had spent the past few minutes mouthing the sentence to himself, trying to get the sound right with the occasional bit of correction from Hyuga, but he stops as the hotel comes into view and peering upwards to get a better look. "NERV is really covering all of this, Major?"
[18:02] <@Minaplo> ["No, I'm paying for this from all the money I make betting on Evangelion battles."]
[18:04] <Raphael> "Glad to see your sideline is paying off, ma'am." Raphael says, nodding approvingly before glancing back at her with a smirk.
[18:04] <@Minaplo> [She pokes her tongue out at him, before climbing out. "C'mon, Hyuga! Someone needs to carry these bags for me~"-
[18:04] <@Minaplo> ["Yes, ma'am…"]
[18:06] * Raphael winces and gives the Lieutenant a supportive pat on the shoulder as he swings open his own door. "Don't mind her, Lieutenant. I've got it."
[18:06] <@Minaplo> ["It's no trouble, sir, really. I'm used to being the Major's gopher."]
[18:12] <Raphael> A quiet, neutral 'Mmm' is his only response to that as he climbs out of the car, going around to Suzanne's door. It was hardly his place to question Misato on her command, but he couldn't say he really approved of that sort of 'delegation'…
[18:16] <@Minaplo> [At least he's efficient. Before long the luggage is extracted, Suzanne's wheelchair is unfolded and the hotel details are firmly within Misato's hands.-
[18:16] <@Minaplo> ["If you guys need anything, let me know." Said Hyuga.]
[18:18] <Raphael> "Of course, Lieutenant, but I'm sure we'll be fine." He says with a smile. "Go and enjoy some time with your family, hmm?"
[18:18] <@Minaplo> [He nods. "See you later, sirs."-
[18:18] <@Minaplo> ["Bye, Bunny Hyuga!"-
[18:19] <@Minaplo> [… And before long he's gone.]
[18:49] <Raphael> … Leaving the four of them waiting outside the hotel. If they'd been receiving odd looks about their avian travelling companion at the train station, they were nothing compared to the ones being given by the upmarket hotel guests that were passing them by.-
[18:50] <Raphael> "So! Shall we check in?"
[18:54] <@Minaplo> ["Mmmhm~"-
[18:57] <@Minaplo> [The interior of the hotel gave off the simultaneous impressions of elegance and simple class. The floors were, despite being made of wood, smooth and polished, the tatami mats linking seamlessly together. Gentle music was being played, yet Raphael would have trouble finding the source. The sound of some contraption creating a distinct 'doink' sound could be heard through the window.-
[18:58] <@Minaplo> [The receptionist was a pretty girl with long black hair, wearing a cherry pink kimono. She blushed and refused to meet Raphael's eyes- not that he had much role in the transaction anyway. Misato was given the key and a small handful of pamphlets and brochures.]
[19:05] <Raphael> No, his role was basically limited to trying to discreetly shift out of the receptionist's line of sight as he tried to keep his new phrase fresh in his mind just in case any attempt at conversation was made. Still, it didn't take too long for the four of them to finish their business at the desk and find their way to one of the nearby elevators.
[19:06] <@Minaplo> [Except there would be no elevators.-
[19:06] <@Minaplo> [Only stairs.]
[19:08] <Raphael> "…" Raphael stared at the stairs silently for a moment, glancing around for a proper elevator as if one could be hiding just out of sight before his gaze settles on Suzie. "… Well, I suppose we'll have to do this the hard way."
[19:12] <@Minaplo> ["Maybe we can put her in a dumb waiter…" Muses Misato.-
[19:12] <@Minaplo> ["What's a dumb waiter?" Asks Suzanne accusingly.-
[19:13] <@Minaplo> ["It's this little elevator in hotels where you can have food lifted up to your room."-
[19:13] <@Minaplo> ["-What-?! That's awesome! I want a dumb waiter!"]
[19:18] * Raphael chuckles. "We'll have to see about that." He says, smiling as he hoists her up into his arms with a tiny grunt. "… It's good we've been easing off on the bacon." He murmurs.
[19:19] <@Minaplo> ["Hmph. One day I'll be able to walk again, and then not even putting it on the top fridge shelf will stop me!"-
[19:22] <@Minaplo> [Misato grabs the wheelchair and packs it up. A pair of bellboys - sent by the receptionist, perhaps- had taken the luggage already, leaving the process far less painful than it could have been.]
[19:27] <Raphael> Which was very much appreciated by the time they'd lugged a machine-gun-toting wheelchair and a squirming six year old up eight storeys. Raphael paused as they reached their designated landing, letting out a little sigh of relief as they get Suzie back into her chair. "… Well. Let's try to avoid doing /that/ too many times a day."
[19:29] <@Minaplo> ["Well, I bet I can totally just roll down the stairs." Said Suzie smugly.]
[19:33] <Raphael> "I'm not letting you throw yourself down a stairwell, young lady."
[19:36] <@Minaplo> ["I'll be ok!"-
[19:37] <@Minaplo> ["She's a daredevil. C'mon, let's get to our rooms, so I can take the best one."]
[19:44] * Raphael snorts, gesturing down the hall. "Lead the way, Major." He says with a smirk.
[19:49] <@Minaplo> [The room was a curious affair, for Raphael at least. It consisted of a wide tatami room for the living room- a television had been placed in the corner- with sliding wooden doors partitioning it off from the other rooms, which included bedrooms- a bathroom- a kitchen- and a spacious, relaxing balcony area.]
[20:06] * Raphael glances around, his smile widening a little as he ushers Suzie and Pen-Pen inside. "This is excellent, Major." He says, moving over to where their bags have been neatly stacked and checking them quickly.
[20:21] <@Minaplo> ["Yeah. They have a good reputation- cost a fair bit, too." She said lightly, plopping down into a puffy armchair. "They gave us these pamphlets- local restaurants, a couple of sites- touristy stuff, but sometimes it can be pretty useful." She let out a sigh of relaxation. "It's weird. The rooms are Japanese, but they have western beds…"]
[20:31] <Raphael> "Strange. The rest of the hotel seemed so… traditional, I suppose." He says, wandering over to the kitchen and opening the fridge. "Probably a concession to Western tourists." He says thoughtfully.
[20:31] <@Minaplo> ["From the looks of things, I'd say this place was a manor of some kind that some clever owner turned into a hotel."-
[20:32] <@Minaplo> [The fridge is, like most hotel fridges, bare except for a collection of snacks and drinks.-
[20:32] <@Minaplo> ["Oooh. You know what we should do?"]
[20:35] <Raphael> "What's that?" He asks, getting a look at the prices on the drinks and shutting the door quickly.
[20:36] <@Minaplo> ["There's this place nearby, this special tailor that can fit you out with an authentic kimono." She beamed. "Think I'd look good in one?"-
[20:36] <@Minaplo> [Suzie looked over curiously.]
[20:48] <Raphael> "Of course you would, Misato." He says, leaning against the bench and smiling at her. "It's an excellent idea. Is it very expensive?"
[20:54] <@Minaplo> ["Should only cost a few thousand francs…"]
[21:07] * Raphael swallows rather hard, managing to stifle his first reaction as he spares another quick look at the minibar. Suddenly those drinks don't seem nearly so bad. "… I see."
[21:07] <@Minaplo> [She laughs. "I'm kidding. It shouldn't be more than 100 francs at most."]
[21:24] * Raphael stares for a moment, before grinning slowly. "I didn't want to rush to comment seeing as you seem so keen to hang on to your habit for terrible ideas, ma'am."
[21:26] <@Minaplo> ["You're funny." She pokes her tongue out at him.-
[21:26] <@Minaplo> ["Warrrk."-
[21:26] <@Minaplo> ["No, Pen-Pen, you don't get a kimono."-
[21:27] <@Minaplo> ["Warrrrk!"-
[21:27] <@Minaplo> ["Because you're a penguin."]
[21:38] <Raphael> "I wouldn't mind seeing the look on the tailor's face if we asked…" Raphael says thoughtfully.
[21:43] <@Minaplo> ["Now who's giving out bad ideas, hm~?"]
[21:45] <Raphael> "So many bad influences around me, ma'am." He says, looking serious.
[21:48] <@Minaplo> ["I'm an awesome influence." Says Suzie sternly.-
[21:48] <@Minaplo> ["See? So what do you wanna do, for the rest of today?"]
[21:59] <Raphael> "Well, we can probably take some time to get settled here for a while. And after that…" He makes a quiet hmmming noise, giving his watch a thoughtful look, "Dinner, maybe? We deserve to try at least one expensive restaurant while we're away, don't you think?"
[22:00] <@Minaplo> ["But that'd mean I'd have to divert funds away from the 'buy 400 cans of beer' account!"]
[22:00] <Raphael> "You'll survive."
[22:01] <@Minaplo> ["Hmph." She folded her arms. "Alright. What sort of restaurant?"]
[22:03] * Raphael chuckles and walks over to stand next to her, peering at the leaflets over her shoulder. "Well, what do the brochures say?"
[22:17] <@Minaplo> ["Well, you know, there's a few restaurants around. A fair few of them are very straight Japanese- the menus are in Japanese, the dishes are all authentic. There's also… Heh." She smirked. "Yoshoku."]
[22:20] <Raphael> "… Yoshoku?"
[22:24] <@Minaplo> ["It's…" She beamed. "It's 'Western' cuisine. If you know what I mean."]
[22:31] <Raphael> "Ah. From a specific region?"
[22:32] <@Minaplo> ["Western as in Europe. Except… How to put it? Do you know how if you ask a person in Paris what Japanese cuisine is, they go 'sushi and noodles'?"]
[22:48] <Raphael> "… Oh dear." He mutters, wincing a bit as he understands where she's going with this. "Yes, I know."
[22:51] <@Minaplo> ["Aren't you curious about how 'Western' food is viewed here? You can have yourself a nice pork-and-beef Indian curry with grilled steak and wash it down with a green tea milkshake."]
[22:59] <Raphael> "That sounds just -awful-." He mutters, although he's clearly trying to supress laughter.
[23:00] <@Minaplo> ["What about a pasta pizza with sea urchin sauce?"-
[23:00] <@Minaplo> [Suzie is frowning mightily, as though Misato has muttered some kind of disgusting heresy. Pen-Pen is looking mildly intrigued.]
[23:05] * Raphael makes a rather disgusted face even as he continues to laugh. "I hope the West doesn't really do that badly with Japanese cuisine."
[23:07] <@Minaplo> ["Sometimes." She says with a grin. "Let's keep away from the yoshoku, ok?"]
[23:12] <Raphael> "That might be an idea. I was curious to try somewhere traditional anyway." He says, scratching his neck as he peers at the brochure and its largely indecipherable text.
[16:05] <@Minaplo> ["Maybe some old family restaurant, with pretty waitresses in kimonos, hm~?"]
[16:11] <Raphael> "Sounds good to me." Raphael says absently, still scanning the page before stopping midway through an ad that'd been translated into clumsy English. "… For the food, of course, not the waitresses."
[16:13] <@Minaplo> ["Oh dear. What was that~? Was that a bit of Kaji coming out in my Raffy?"]
[16:14] <Raphael> "Don't you even start, Major."
[16:15] <@Minaplo> [But the blood is in the water. "Would you rather we go to a maid cafe, then~? That may be more your speed…"]
[16:20] <Raphael> "I-I don't even know what that-" He begins, shaking his head quickly and doing his best to look stern. If there's blood in the metaphorical water, he's doing his best to paddle for shore. "I clearly didn't mean it that way!"
[16:20] <@Minaplo> [Misato leans against the arm of the chair, smirking like a cat. "Or perhaps you'd like to see me in a maid outfit? Maybe that's it…"}
[16:25] <Raphael> "…" This was spiraling out of control with alarming speed, and any coherent argument he was planning was thrown slightly off balance by that last suggestion. "I thought we were discussing dinner!"
[16:25] <@Minaplo> ["So was I, but apparently you're skipping to after-dinner dessert~"]
[16:28] <Raphael> "I… you…" There's no stopping the bright blush as he does his best to maintain his stern expression without much success. "…"
[16:30] <@Minaplo> [Misato bursts into laughter, leaning back in the chair, her mission successful. "Oh man, look at your -face-~"-
[16:30] <@Minaplo> ["Adults are weird…" Mutters Suzie.]
[16:31] * Raphael covers his eyes with one hand, his lips pressed into a tight line. He doesn't seem to quite trust himself to say anything.
[16:41] <@Minaplo> ["Hey, Misato, there's a samurai in the street."-
[16:42] <@Minaplo> ["What? Oh yeah, it's probably a street theatre performer. You get a lot of them around." Misato's gaze swivelled towards Raphael. "… They even like to volunteer the audience up to help out."]
[16:45] <Raphael> "… Why are you looking at me like that?"
[16:52] <@Minaplo> ["Hey Suzie, wouldn't it be fun if Raffy were dressed up like a samurai in one of these theatre performances?"-
[16:52] <@Minaplo> ["What?! That'd be totally awesome!"]
[16:53] <Raphael> "Why do you do this to me, Major?" Raphael mumbles.
[16:54] <@Minaplo> ["If you stopped calling me Major I might stop disciplining you~"]
[16:55] <Raphael> "I doubt it."
[16:55] <@Minaplo> ["It couldn't hurt your chances."]
[16:55] <Raphael> "Noted."
[16:56] <@Minaplo> [She smirks, then pulls herself out of the chair. "Why don't we have a look around? A big place like this should have all sorts of fun services right here to use."]
[16:59] * Raphael stands up a little straighter, some of his smile returning. "That might be an idea. Is there anything you would like to do, Suzie?"
[17:00] <@Minaplo> ["I wanna look around too. If you can drop me off on the bottom floor, Pen-Pen and I can find things on our own."]
[17:01] <Raphael> "I'm not sure if they'd like you two wandering around on your own…" Raphael says slowly, glancing at Misato.
[17:02] <@Minaplo> [She shrugs. "They shouldn't have a problem with it. Pen-Pen knows what to do if they object."]
[17:02] <Raphael> "He does?"
[17:03] <@Minaplo> ["Pen-Pen, show them."-
[17:03] <@Minaplo> ["Warrrrk." He reaches back at the strange backpack he wears- and pulls something out of a compartment. An ID card. He holds it up to Raphael.-
[17:04] <@Minaplo> [It's a picture of Pen-Pen, with his name, age (85, but who's going to dispute that?) and his rank ('NERV Antarctica Technical Division Director').]
[17:05] * Raphael stares for a long, long time before looking over at Misato with his eyebrows raised in obvious disbelief.
[17:05] <@Minaplo> ["Problem?"]
[17:06] <Raphael> "Did you make that yourself? Because I wasn't under the impression that Human Resources - so to speak - had a sense of humour."
[17:08] <@Minaplo> ["I pulled a few favors~"]
[17:11] * Raphael just shakes his head. "… Well, alright then. Just make sure you two stay inside the hotel and don't talk to strangers, alright Suzie?"
[17:13] <@Minaplo> ["I'll try!"]
[17:15] <Raphael> "…" He gives her a hard look, then turns his attention to Pen-Pen instead. "Pen-Pen, keep her inside the hotel and away from strangers, hmm?"
[17:16] <@Minaplo> ["Warrrrrk."]
[17:16] <Raphael> "That'll have to do."
[17:22] <@Minaplo> [Another few minutes later- with Raphael carrying the chair this time- they're down on ground level, Suzanne chomping at the bit to go. "Seeya, Raffy, Misato~"]
[17:24] <Raphael> "I'll see you later, you two. Remember, back here in an hour." He says, giving the girl a quick hug.
[17:27] <@Minaplo> ["Don't find any maid cafes, Raffy~" She hugs him back, smirking.]
[17:28] <Raphael> "You're not funny."
[17:29] <@Minaplo> ["Misato's laughing."]
[17:30] <Raphael> "… Go and explore, you two."
[17:35] <@Minaplo> ["Seeya, Raffy~"-
[17:35] <@Minaplo> ["She's great." Misato beamed. "She won't cause too much damage."]
[17:38] <Raphael> "Mmm, she's pretty wonderful." He says with obvious pride, watching the two of them disappear. "So, then, what would you like us to do, ma'am?"
[17:39] <@Minaplo> ["Let's look around. I wonder if there's a bar on site?"]
[17:43] <Raphael> "I imagine they would. Shall we try and find one?" He asks happily, taking her by the hand.
[17:45] <@Minaplo> ["Let's!"-
[17:46] <@Minaplo> [A little bit of walking led them to a wing of the hotel, where people were more common. Now it was Raphael receiving the looks- it seems Pen-Pen had been an ablative shield against gawking.-
[17:47] <@Minaplo> ["Hey, a massage parlour." Said Misato, pointing down a hallway. "An hour in there and you walk out feeling like a different person."]
[17:54] * Raphael gestures at his face. "Working for NERV can have a similar effect."
[17:54] <@Minaplo> ["Maybe they can massage you back into a frownsies Frenchman~"]
[17:57] <Raphael> "…" He gives the entryway a thoughtful look and shrugs slowly. "Worth a try, certainly."
[17:58] <@Minaplo> ["Hey, there's an idea. You have that Doctor Surov back in France, right?"]
[18:03] <Raphael> "… Mmm." He murmurs warily, nodding a little.
[18:04] <@Minaplo> ["Picture him having a massage."]
[18:06] * Raphael winces sharply, making a small, strangled noise from the back of his throat. "… Too much, Major."
[18:06] <@Minaplo> ["Picture him -giving- a massage in nothing but a budgie smuggler."]
[18:08] <Raphael> "Argh, no, stop!" He manages, caught up in a sudden gale of laughter.
[18:12] <@Minaplo> ["Is it true he has weird robot arms?"]
[18:14] <Raphael> "A-at least one." He manages as the laughter subsides. "And they're really more like tentacles."
[18:14] <@Minaplo> ["… Really?"]
[18:15] <Raphael> "Really."
[18:16] <@Minaplo> ["That's creepy."]
[18:17] <Raphael> "Quite."
[18:19] <@Minaplo> ["How do they let someone like him around?"]
[18:22] <Raphael> "He /is/ a genius, that much is certain." He mutters, letting out a quiet sigh. "Sometimes it seems like that's the only thing our superiors take into consideration when making these decisions."
[18:25] <@Minaplo> ["Our enemies -are- pretty formidible…"]
[18:27] <Raphael> "Oh, don't get me wrong, I can understand the logic and I don't fault it… most of the time, at least." He says. "It can just be a little disheartening."
[18:29] <@Minaplo> [She pats his arms. "Maybe he'll become a supervillain after the war's over, and then you can shoot him." She says soothingly.]
[18:33] <Raphael> "Maybe." He says, chuckling a little. "… I'm hardly looking forward to letting the prospective supervillain experiment on me, though."
[18:34] <@Minaplo> ["Maybe you'll wake up as Captain France."]
[18:36] <Raphael> "That would be one of the less nightmarish outcomes."
[19:14] <@Minaplo> [She laughed. "I think I can guess at some of the others. C'mon, I think I see a bar… Or a drinking room, at least."]
[19:19] * Raphael follows her gaze and nods. "That looks like it should do the trick, ma'am. May I buy you a drink?"
[19:21] <@Minaplo> ["Of course you may~ You may buy me several, in fact."]
