Tyra Pays A Visit To The Festina Lente

<Xiri> [ The Festina Lente's gates open at their regular prescribed time; another night of relaxation and lounge music. The ambience is set, the entrance venue a classy downtown plaza a few good paces away from town square. Inside, the guests are starting to filter in - usually the early bird crowd who desire dinner to go with their time off. ]
*Xiri isn't being as energetic and welcoming a presence as usual, though; instead, she's silently sitting at the bar, tending the orders and dockets as they come in, and instead having the big Jean-Baptiste play front of house.
*Tyra makes her own arrival soon enough after the doors open, on her own this time around though. She gives a nod towards JB as she enters, tipping her fedora back a bit as she scans the place… aha! She makes for the bar, watching Xiri a bit carefully as she approaches.
*Xiri is sitting silently, having changed to her usual crimson dress with the large black feather trimming, watching fruit be crushed into a pulp in a magitech blender in front of her.
*Tyra takes a seat, setting her hat down on the countertop before speaking in a tentative tone. "Xiri?"
*Xiri snaps her head up as her round eyes widen a little. "Oh. Tyri." Her eyes widen further as she quickly shuts the blender off and peeks inside it, makes a face, and then winds up having to dispose of half a pineapple due to her carelessness. "Can I get you anything?"
*Tyra shrugs, shifting a bit in her seat. "Surprise me. Thaler for your thoughts?" As if summoned by magic there's a coin playing across her fingers now, an old sleight of hand trick.
*Xiri chuckles weakly for a moment and says, "I think you would be mad."
*Tyra continues playing with the coin. "Won't know until you tell me. Come on, Xi."
*Xiri tilts her head for a moment, before saying, "I was just thinking about how your fedora covers up how pretty you are."
*Tyra turns a bit red at that, almost losing the coin. "R-really?" She glances at the hat as if it has betrayed her for a moment, then leans in a bit. "Though that isn't why you were staring into space, I imagine."
*Xiri sighs as she runs her hand through her hair and says, "I almost wish you would have stopped at 'really', dear."
*Tyra shakes her head. "If you want, I can wait until after closing. I'm worried, though."
*Xiri 's head tilts again towards the other side as she starts anew. Bananas, broken into three, mango slices, pineapple… someone wants a smoothie. "I am just here trying to take my mind off things…"
*Tyra flips the coin into the air, catching it in her other hand. "Yeah, but you aren't… well, you right now. Moping. Staring off into space."
*Xiri leans her head back and presses it against a column, letting out another sigh. "I was just thinking about how different everyone is. What lives you've led."
<Tyra> Oh?
*Xiri makes a dismissive hand gesture as she pours the drink out after a minute, topping it off with a slice of lemon and a pink straw. It's slid off to a nearby apparition. "You were quite eager to fight today. And did you see Diana? She talked that ghost down like it was a slice of apple strudel."
*Tyra shifts a bit, looking embarassed. "I was kind of worked up at that point. I think Diana was too."
*Xiri shakes her head again as she thinks, and then takes a top-shelf bottle of wine. It's red; she commences the pour, and hands it to Tyra. "Ringdor vintage oak casket, crisp bouquet. See how you like it."
*Tyra takes the glass, examining the contents for a moment before taking a practiced sip.
*Xiri personally enjoys it, but it's a lighter, sweeter fare than Tyra's strong alcoholic shenanigans. Fruity. "I mean, it was good that you were both so bold, so brave…"
*Xiri mentally skips a beat as she backpedals and mutters, "And Maia too, of course."
*Tyra mms for a moment, seeming to at least like the wine. She takes another sip, chuckling a bit. "You really don't like her, do you?"
*Xiri pauses, and mutters, "Well, up until now I had no idea that such occultists were part of the police force… it is a bit peculiar, in my opinion."
*Tyra shrugs slightly. "I guess supernatural police isn't exactly something you hear on the radio."
*Xiri shakes her head quickly and says, "Whatever, though. She seems a decent enough lass, if a little cavalier."
*Tyra nods, tilting her head. "Is that what was bothering you, then?"
*Xiri frowns a bit, and then leans in to listen to another customer's request from the apparition, nods, and pulls the docket to her. "I… look, Tyri, I love meeting you here at the Lente. You are always welcome. But your life outside is… it is intense."
*Tyra frowns as well, not sure what to say in response to that as she sips her wine. Her eyes drop down to the hat for a moment, free hand toying with the coin.
*Xiri has a very weak chuckle with a wide, heavy, tired smile as she says, "I am just a hostess. A singer. I serve people drinks and play the piano. Liver of life, singer of songs."
*Tyra sets the glass down, spinning the coin on a finger now. "Ah… mm, sorry for dragging you along to that, then."
*Xiri looks to the coin as well, and then leans forward to slowly say, "Show me a trick."
*Tyra smiles faintly, flicking the coin to her other hand. "Sleight of hand, huh." She dances the coin across her fingers of her left hand for a moment, then with a flick the coin's disappeared somewhere. She raises both hands, flipping them to make sure Xiri sees no sign of the coin… then reaches over with the right behind Xiri's ear and produces the coin once more.
*Xiri starts a little as she touches her ear and rubs it, and says, "Was that always there the whole time?" with some astonishment.
*Tyra smirks. "A magician never reveals her secrets, Xiri. Want to see another?"
*Xiri nods eagerly, like an audience captive. She just wordlessly hands the docket to the apparition to make. Fuck profit.
*Tyra dances the coin across her fingers, considering for a moment before flipping her hat over and holding it up. "Let's see…" With that she brings her hand over to that, depositing the coin and displaying the now coin free hand. Then she tips the hat towards Xiri, revealing it… to be empty?
*Xiri stares a bit and holds the hat's brim with both hands as she feels around inside. "Where did it go?"
*Tyra just grins, reaching up into her hair… and pulling out the same coin. "Spare change is easy to toy around with."
*Xiri pauses, and looks up towards her to pout and says, "You tricked me."
*Tyra winks, reaching out to pat Xiri's hand. "You asked for a trick."
*Xiri has a more adorable pout, and then a giggle. She seems to be in better spirits now! "Can you do larger tricks? Is there a rabbit in that hat, or perhaps a flock of doves?"
*Tyra chuckles. "Rabbits and doves make too much of a mess to keep in my hat. Bring me a deck of cards."
*Xiri tilts her head and says, "Any?"
*Tyra shrugs. "One of the decks from the casino should work fine."
*Xiri puts up her hand for a moment and leans under the table, squiggling around through a box, and then finally pulls out a deck encased in a small wooden box. "A feywild deck of fortune-telling cards," she explains, sliding it over to her.
*Tyra takes the deck with no small amount of card, flipping through a couple of cards. "Let's see then…" After a few more moments of shuffling she flips the top card of the deck, revealing a six of cups. "Remember which card this is now, alright?"
*Xiri 's cards contain a whole lot of various kinds of life-affirming or ominous depictions, illustrated in lavish fey art. "Okay…"
*Tyra nods, flipping the card back over. She then slides it off the top, sticking it in the middle of the deck before setting it down. "Now flip over the top card."
*Xiri pauses to think for a while, and then gets that invisible metaphorical lightbulb as she says, "YOu just put another card in the middle, didn't you?" She flips the top card over.
*Xiri claps lightly as she hees, perhaps TOO amused at herself despite her keen elven eye.
*Tyra considers, flipping the card back over and starting to shuffle. "Hmm, perhaps one more… I should ask for a treat for all these tricks, I think." She smirks again, shuffling the deck before holding it out towards Xiri. "Pick a card, but do not show me it."
*Xiri smirks back at her at that line, and then mmms softly as she looks through the deck, and then peers towards Tyra with a confident grin as she says, "Okay."
*Tyra nods, starting to shuffle the deck again as she hums a few bits of one of Xiri's songs. A few moments of this pass… then Tyra peels off the top card to display to Xiri, revealing it to be the same one!
*Xiri blinks a bit as she pulls out her pocket watch again, although at the same time her brain was staring at Tyra's card, so she simultaneously sort of goes, "Oh wow, how did you do that?" and blurts, "I'm late!" in her mind.
*Tyra grins, tapping her head for a moment as she sets the deck back down. "Magician never reveals her tricks, Xi. Well, maybe never. You're welcome to try to get an answer out of me." She picks up her glass, taking a sip with an amused smirk.
*Xiri smiles somewhat awkwardly, before saying, "Magic Hour's started and I'm not even -there- yet." She musses her hair again as she slides over past the bar and heads on off, before pausing and turning around to say, "Thanks for the tricks." And yelping as she bumps into an apparition in her hurry.
*Tyra quirks a brow slightly, trying not to giggle as Xiri rushes off to perform.
*Xiri winds up on stage. She's looking a bit better than before, but her playing is a little fainter, a little more subdued, her voice not quite as strong as it usually is. She does try to make it up, though, and gets through the hour reasonably fine. TIMEWARP
*Xiri winds up manning bar again two hours later in the night, having had a local quartet of a capella singers from Fresland perform for the Lente in the guest slot. She joins in near the end to give them a piano background, and there's a fifteen minute segment where they take requests from the audience to sing popular TV and radio tunes.
*Tyra has at this point finished her wine, indulging in some of her more usual drinks and a bite to eat as well. The black notebook has worked its way out as well, the young woman examining a few notes and occasionally marking at something. She looks up though, giving Xiri a slight smile and sighing. "If only I could make work disappear with a snap of the fingers too."
*Xiri is definitely looking more taxed and weary by this point, but makes a point to sit opposite Tyra with a nod and says, "You know, sometimes that is possible."
*Tyra raises an eyebrow. "Really?"
*Xiri smiles a little and says, "Sometimes. I just have to snap my fingers to do a lot of the Lente's work, thanks to the apparitions…"
*Tyra chuckles, glancing at her notebook. "A pity I don't have such a thing handy for all of this and the stuff back home."
*Xiri stares towards the clock for a moment, before pinching the bridge of her nose with an 'mm'. "A pity, truly, yes…"
*Tyra spares a glance towards the clock for a moment as well, considering as she watches Xiri. "Feeling better now, at least?"
*Xiri looks to the side, pensive and conflict bubbling about her face for a moment, before slowly smiling to say, "I think so."
*Tyra leans forward a bit, tilting her head. "Something on your mind again?"
*Xiri presses her lips together again, and then beckons for Tyra to follow her backstage, spawning several more apparitions to man her place with a flick of her wrist, a snap of her fingers.
*Tyra raises an eyebrow, sliding out of her seat and following Xiri. She does remember to sweep her hat off the counter and back on her head, of course.
*Xiri eludes the a capellans and moves towards that magical backstage door where they can retreat to her immense loft garden. She turns to face Tyra as she, still with that expressive look of indecision in her face, says, "I am not… certain how to say this, Tyri."
*Tyra spares a look about the garden, still a bit amazed at the sight since it's only her second visit. Her attention moves back to Xiri quickly enough though as she smiles faintly. "Well, give it a shot at least."
*Xiri doesn't look happy that Tyra is smiling, and she opens her mouth for a moment, closes it again… not finding the right words. "It was a …" She scrunches her eyebrows together for a moment, distracting herself by moving towards a garden centerpiece she seems to be working on, a large collection of flowers in a unique bouquet.
*Tyra tilts her head, smile fading before looking at the flowers as well. She waits a few moments before speaking quietly to prompt Xiri. "It was a…?"
<Xiri> Mistake.
*Tyra frowns. "Mistake?"
*Xiri turns away from Tyra. She can't quite look at her right now. Her hands are tight and clammy as she pulls them closer to herself. "To have stayed that long at Vickers Tower, to let you know of the Slayer."
*Tyra frowns even more, taking a step forward as she reaches to place a hand on Xiri's shoulder. "Hey, hey. What are you saying?"
*Xiri starts a little, and pulls away, muttering, "It is becoming more and more difficult to separate the two around you, each day…."
*Tyra lowers her hand, deciding against reaching out again. "Hey… come on now. We can figure out something, can't we?"
*Xiri takes sharper, deeper breaths, trying to stay calm, trying to regulate herself. "Maia. Walter. How many more people will be dragged into this? Once I let you in the door… even if you tried your hardest… the rest followed."
*Tyra shifts about Xiri, trying to get a look at her face. "Wait, wait. If what we've found out is right, Maia would have ended up here anyways. Walter doesn't seem to have any idea still, really. It… it wasn't just because of our meeting at Vickers.."

*Xiri 's eyes are clenched shut, but her expression seems to paint an awkward resolve now. "No, that was not… all. Yes, Maia would probably have eventually discovered. She has the aide of the preternatural to guide her hand."
*Tyra almost lifts a hand up, but holds back for now. "So… what do you mean to do, then? You're still sure it was a mistake?"
*Xiri stares towards Tyra. "I also mean this. Day to day… I was quite happy to see you, to attend your functions and parties… I truly am very fond of you." She idly looks to the side, now, opening her eyes, brushing a pot of flowers gently.
*Tyra turns a bit red at this again, reaching up to pull the brim of her hat down some. "I… I am too, of you. I'm sure you realized that, but… still. What do you plan to do?"
*Xiri inhales powerfully, for a moment, as she says… no, states, "Please stop thinking of me as the Slayer. The Slayer is a grotesque creature with little decency for life. Decide who you wish to speak to when you approach me. Business… or pleasure. Either way, I will respond."
*Tyra simply blinks at this for a moment, taken a bit aback at the statement. She shifts a bit from foot to foot, working it over in her head. "So…. just pick one or the other, whenever I speak to you. Not both or switching it up?"
*Xiri is silent for a longer moment, and then brushes her hair to the side with one hand as she stares impassively at Tyra, directly to her eyes. "We can discuss channels to communicate through." Slayer business, that is.
*Tyra lowers her gaze again, nodding. "I.. I can do that, then."
*Xiri reaches into a fold in her dress, and takes out a sheet of paper. She scribbles a name and a contact detail on it with a writing implement, before handing it off to her. "That is a secure proxy that you can contact me from… and there is another way."
*Tyra takes the paper, looking it over for a moment. "Another way?"
*Xiri slips away, moving further into the garden towards the door opposite the Lente portal. She thumbs towards that door to say, almost haunted in her tone, "Xiri does not live at this address."
*Tyra follows after Xiri, casting a look towards the door and fidgeting for a moment, looking shaken at the shift in reference and voice. "…what do you mean?"
*Xiri , or rather the Slayer, is really wishing lightning would strike at this exact moment. "I mean exactly what I said. Now go back to the Lente. Xiri will be with you shortly."
*Tyra seems to actually tense up for a moment, catching on to the shift now as she looks towards Xiri. "Oi oi… just like that, cross those doors and it's you?" She waits a few moments before turning to head for the door, hands (along with the piece of paper) sliding into her jacket's pockets.
*Xiri looks towards Tyra in return to say, "Understand that this is as an unusual circumstance for me as it is for you, Paskell." The way she says that… it's really quite different from Xiri's affectionate 'Tyri-dear's.
*Tyra bites her lip for a moment, looking as if she's about to respond before just shaking her head and moving to step through the door back to the Lente.
*Xiri walks towards her house. She has to reassert her thoughts… only after Tyra is gone does she show a pained look on her face, sitting quietly in her lounge for a good ten minutes, before returning to the lounge.
*Tyra has found herself a seat on the ground in the backstage still, having decided to not immediately make her way back out into the Lente proper it seems. She leans back against a sturdy prop, arms resting on her knees that are brought up to her chest and looking rather pensive herself now.
*Xiri does approach her with a very concerned look on her face. Actually, she stops a good few paces in, one hand clutched against her chest. She doesn't really want to initiate dialogue here.
*Tyra glances up as Xiri approaches, giving her a weak smile as she looks up past the brim of the hat. "Sorry, just trying to compose myself a bit."
*Xiri tries to give her a weak smile as she extends her hand to say, tentatively, "Do you wanna go back now?"
*Tyra looks at her hand for a moment, then reaches out to take it. "Can't just stay back here with you for a bit I guess, huh?"
*Xiri thoughtfully thinks about that, and then squeezes it for a moment as she says, sitting down with her, "Actually, I do like it back here. It's quiet…"
*Tyra chuckles, leaning against Xiri a bit. "It is, I'll admit. Not that the Lente is too noisy or anything, it's just… quieter here."
*Xiri gestures at the various different props that are situated around the room. "It's also got a lot of history for me. Just… a lot of the shows we've done."
*Tyra looks about as Xiri gestures, nodding. "I don't think I've seen a few of these. Before I started coming here, you think?"
*Xiri mmms. "Well, I don't know if I have ever told anyone, but the props you see, they basically just fall apart the moment the show is over. I mean… that big bear used to also be the stage decor from that time 'Kittens' was performing on stage."
*Tyra snickers at this, nodding. "Last long enough to get the job done, huh?" She considers for a moment, then looks over at Xiri. "Idly.. you did get the recording of the poetry bash with JB, right?"
*Xiri perks up and goes, "Oh, yes!" as she gets up and takes her over to where there's a small box not unlike a stereo, which she sort of… actually lifts and peers at the buttons. "He said he used this to record it." … she doesn't seem to have any idea how to use it.
*Tyra follows after Xiri, peering at the box for a moment before gesturing. "Ah… here, hit this button to play back the recording…" She reaches past Xiri, pressing said button!
<Xiri> [ There's a bit of a recording scratch-whirring sound, before a cheering crowd claps for a bit. Then it fades away, and a big, powerful clear of the throat. "Name's J.B, P.I. I only got two friends on this job. / The first one: Mr. Merrholt, .45. / I keep it loaded. / The second one: Ms. Mennasas, 90 proof. / It keeps me loaded." goes J.B.'s voice, in 'acting' mode. ]
<Xiri> [ … it's unclear whether he's actually going for poetry or stand-up. ]
*Tyra brings her hands up to her mouth, sounding like she's trying hard to not burst out laughing.
*Xiri does look like she wants to laugh too, but winds up light-heartedly shaking her head as she says, "Balanar bless his soul."
<Tyra> You should give him a raise, Xiri.
*Xiri tilts her head and says, "A raise? I would have to be paying him, first, not splitting the profits for our living costs."
*Tyra frowns. "Oh. Trickier."
*Xiri puts her hand to Tyra and says, "Come on, I'll make you a special drink. You are up for that, aren't you?"
*Tyra raises an eyebrow. "A special drink, huh? I can hardly say no, I suppose…"
*Xiri smiles and takes her back to the Lente, where special drinks can commence!
