Sera S Interview

[20:04] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> [Behind Sera’s door was yet another pair of armchairs! And a tall, handsome-looking man with very straight black hair. "Mr. de Pteres? A pleasure."]
[20:07] * Sept didn't sit down quite yet. "Oh, Sera, please. And you are..?"
[20:08] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Cecil Lexington." The man’s pale green eyes glittered.]
[20:10] <Sept> "Cecil." Sera sat down, satisfied with the answer. He looked into the man's eyes expectantly.
[20:16] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Mmmmm…" Cecil stared at Sera for a second before continuing. "Full name and date of birth?"]
[20:18] <Sept> "Sera de Pteres. Don’t know," he stated matter-of-factly.
[20:23] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Don’t know? You don't have a day you celebrate your birthday at least?"]
[20:24] <Sept> "Oh, of course. Bastille Day." He smiled brightly.
[20:25] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Of course." Said Cecil. He didn’t have a writing pad. Or a laptop. "And you've heard of the movie in production, I hope."]
[20:29] <Sept> "With the money you've been spending on advertisement, yes. But not much more beyond there being one."
[20:30] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["I see. Do you intend to view the movie when it is released?"]
[20:33] <Sept> "I’m sure. I've been keeping busy with everything, but I have no reason not to."
[20:34] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> [Cecil nodded. "Some people might be uncomfortable about seeing themselves on the big screen, even if it is an animation. Are you?"]
[20:36] <Sept> "Um. If it attracted too much attention to me, it’d be bothersome, but… I don't think it'll probably change anything from how things are now."
[20:41] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Ah, so you don’t really like the attention. Understandable. Why's that?"]
[20:44] * Sept tilted his head a bit. "Do I need a reason?"
[20:44] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Not really, but if you had one I’d like to hear it. Just general aversion to it?"]
[20:47] <Sept> "That's as good a word as any. It makes me uncomfortable." A pause. "For example, we were visiting Tokyo. It… wasn't easy."
[20:48] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["I didn’t know you were popular in Japan."]
[20:53] <Sept> "Well, I mean. It's not attention itself, but it tends to make people flock around me, and that's… you know." Sera shifted around in the chair, looking over his shoulder in case an angry mob was approaching.
[20:54] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Ahh-h-h-h." Cecil nodded slowly. "So what do you do to avoid that?"]
[20:58] <Sept> "Streets aren’t the only way to get around cities. Smaller alleys, roofs… With a bit of training and the right equipment, it really isn't that diffic— Wait, no. Forget about that. Please don't write it down."
[21:00] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["…" Cecil smiled. His hands were empty. "So you practice parkour?"]
[21:03] <Sept> "Ah. Yes. I mean, I, we didn’t call it that for a long time, it's just a way of getting around. But yes. Oh, I might know people who could give you advice on how to make it look more authentic, if you're going to use it."
[21:05] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Oh? Do go on."]
[21:10] <Sept> "Well, I think it’d be easy to make it look… weird, in an animation. I don't think they'd like it if I worked too closely with you, with training and everything, but I have friends who have more time than I do."
[21:14] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Names, please?"]
[21:22] <Sept> "Oh, I’m not sure if I should promise anything without them… Oh! But I know Freya would love to work in a movie! Freya Solheim, she came to work here when I did."
[21:23] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Oh yes? She was the young lady who sat next to you during the press conference."]
[21:25] <Sept> Sera’s joyful demeanor faltered for a moment as he pushed the memories aside. "Y-yes. She was there. She's a very good friend."
[21:26] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["A good friend?"]
[21:28] <Sept> "Yes. She was my first friend in Paris."
[21:28] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["You have others. Why don’t you tell me about a few of them?"]
[21:33] <Sept> "Well, the pilots, of course. They're family to me. Freya and I keep in touch with old friends, and… I have some friends at school. Did you mean something specific?"
[21:34] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Well. How do you find school? It must be a little uncomfortable."]
[21:36] <Sept> "It is," Sera admitted. "But there’s not much I can do about it."
[21:37] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["But despite that you’ve made friends nevertheless. That's admirable."]
[21:43] <Sept> "Mmh. I've learned a lot because of this job. But we've lost a lot, too."
[21:43] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Is that so?"]
[21:46] <Sept> "Yes. It is."
[21:47] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Mind elaborating?"]
[21:55] <Sept> "We’ve lost some friends just because we do this. I don't think it'd be respectful to talk about it like this."
[22:02] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Unfortunate. Well then." Cecil crossed one leg over the other. "Then let’s discuss something else. Say, the other pilots?"]
[22:03] <Sept> "Sure." Sera was satisfied with the change of topic. He was clearly mastering this social thing. "What do you want to know?"
[22:04] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Do you get along with them?"]
[22:05] <Sept> "Yes, I do. Piloting is stressful work, but it’s never come between our friendship."
[22:07] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> [Cecil nodded. "Are there any pilots you feel exceptionally close to?"]
[22:10] <Sept> "Tsubaki… Tsubaki Akagi and I are good friends, too. We rarely meet because of the circumstances, but there’s not much we can do for that right now."
[22:11] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Tsubaki Akagi, the pilot of 03? What is she like? I don’t really know a lot about her."]
[22:12] <Sept> "She's…" Sera tapped with his finger, looking for the words. "A very loving person. Optimistic, but very focused when she has to be, and a very skilled pilot."
[22:14] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> [Cecil stared at Sera. "How would you describe her? As a sister, or… Perhaps a lover?"]
[22:19] * Sept didn’t flinch or hesitate. "A sister."
[22:20] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Hmmm." Cecil held his chin for a second. "Is there anyone you’d call a lover? At your age…"]
[22:21] <Sept> "Yes. There is. What do you mean, my age?"
[22:22] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["At your age, many people start experimenting with romance. Who is she? Or… he?"]
[22:26] <Sept> "It’s not an 'experiment', Cecil. And Viviane went missing during the Covenant of Light attack on our school. Is that why we're fighting to find each other again? For an experiment?"
[22:27] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["No, you misunderstand." Said Cecil calmly. "Simply put, people at a younger age tend not to focus on romance. Around your age they start making tentative feelers out towards it. It’s hardly clinical, it's merely a figure of speech. Consider it more cautiously entering a cave."]
[22:32] * Sept frowned at the man silently for a while. "Alright. Did that answer your question, Cecil?"
[22:33] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Yes, of course. In return, shall I regale you with tales of my first love?"]
[22:34] <Sept> "Hmm? If you want to."
[22:36] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["She was a strawberry picker. Strawberries are a very romantic berry, you know. They’re bright and red, and they excite the romantic urges."]
[22:38] <Sept> "Th-they do, huh?"
[22:40] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Oh yes." Said Cecil solemnly. "We made love between strawberry bushes, and now I cannot even eat a strawberry without remembering those enchanting memories."]
[22:41] <Sept> "Ah. I-I wouldn’t know anything about that. Must be nice," Sera offered.
[22:42] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["When the time comes, you will know what to do."]
[22:42] <Sept> "Ah. I’m sure. B-but, I've never had strawberries, so. They don't grow them in Paris, you know."
[22:43] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Then you should buy some from a supermarket. What -do- you eat, Sera?"]
[22:45] <Sept> "Oh, I’m not picky. Anything that gets me through the day."
[22:45] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["No favourite foods…?"]
[22:46] <Sept> Sera allowed himself a little sigh. Safely out of awkward territory. "Curry rice. I’ve learned to really like it recently."
[22:47] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Curry rice. An agreeable meal, especially when shared as a group."]
[22:57] <Sept> "Yes. It suits a lot of situations, and tastes good any time of the day."
[23:00] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Indeed." A pensive silence. "It is good, I find, with a bottle of wine."]
[23:07] <Sept> "Ah, that’s true! A good red wine is great with curry!"
[23:08] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Oh? You have drunk red wine with curry before?"]
[23:12] <Sept> "Yes! The Ikaris were visiting, and we all got together and had some. It just shows the good spirit we work in."
[23:12] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Oh? You drank with the Ikaris? Including the pilot of 05 and the director of Tokyo?"]
[23:13] <Sept> "Yes. We did a bit of a trip with Gendo when I was in Tokyo, too. It was one of the good parts of that visit."
[23:13] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["What is he like?"]
[23:15] <Sept> "He has to be a bit serious because of his job, but he’s a good guy once he gets past his grouchy phase."
[23:16] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["His job -is- very serious. Much like that of Commander Fontaine’s. What is your opinion of her?"]
[23:21] <Sept> "She's considered very serious, too. But… I don't think she's like that at all. She can be very kind and caring as well."
[23:21] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Oh?"]
[23:37] <Sept> "Yes. She’s been the first there several times when I've been defeated in battle. To make sure I was alright."
[23:37] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["-Really-? That seems extraordinary. Does she do the same for the other pilots?"]
[23:39] <Sept> "I don’t know. I don't think so. Yanmei had Isaiah there when she fell, though…"
[23:39] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Isaiah?"]
[23:41] <Sept> "Yes. Her boyfriend. They’re very close. He works as a medic here, now."
[23:42] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["I see. Fascinating- how many of the pilots are in romantic relationships, altogether?"]
[23:45] * Sept made a thinkingpose. "Well, let’s see… I think Asuka is in one now, too… That's almost all of them. Natasha is still pretty alone out there, though."
[23:46] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Oh? Why don’t you tell me a little more about these relationships? After all, they're so incredibly important to a person's character."]
[23:54] <Sept> "Well, Shinji and Aline and Isaiah and Yanmei have both been very close to each other for a while. Asuka and Alexandre… I think they're going out now. They were childhood friends, both pilot candidates, but only now got openly romantic about each other.."
[23:56] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Childhood friends become adult lovers. Truly the stories that touch us the most are those of enduring companionship throughout life." Cecil paused. "So Shinji Ikari and Aline Blanc are lovers. What can you tell me about these two?"]
[00:00] <Sept> "I think… they knew each other from shortly after we began piloting? That was long before they finished 05 and it was decided Shinji would be a pilot. I think it was a bit difficult for them to work that out, but they seem to be fine now!"
[00:02] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["That’s good. Are they good pilots?"]
[00:10] <Sept> "I haven't been in a battle with Shinji, but Aline does her job well. She's the only one of us who can really work with AT Fields." A bit of uncomfortable shifting around.
[00:12] <@Sarah‘Lerburg> ["What do you specialise in?"]
[00:15] <Sept> "I keep everyone safe. In and out of the plug. Close combat, I guess."
[00:16] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Keeping people safe is a noble task."]
[00:16] <Sept> "You think so?"
[00:18] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Of course. Look at the heroes of history. It is not the ones who kill a thousand foes out of conquest who become honoured, but those who defend their loved ones from those thousand foes who are raised up."]
[00:23] * Sept nodded. "That sounds familiar."
[00:23] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Oh?"]
[00:27] <Sept> "Well, when I started, I was a bit unsure about… all of this, and myself. But then I learned that from someone, and it all made sense."
[00:28] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Oh." Said Cecil. "Tell me something. Do you feel frightened when you’re out in combat?"]
[00:36] <Sept> "Rarely. Sometimes the Angels have tricks that can stop me from keeping the others safe, and that's scary for me. Claws and positron beams I can take, but the weird stuff still frightens me."
[00:36] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Weird stuff?"]
[00:38] <Sept> "Um. Illusions and the like. Disguises. Stuff like that."
[00:39] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Ah. Sensory tricks. I understand."]
[00:45] <Sept> "Yeah." Sera falls into a heavy silence.
[00:50] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Well then." Cecil extended a hand. "I believe that concludes our meeting."]
[00:56] <Sept> "Ah? I hope you got all you needed, Cecil." Sera shook the hand.
[00:56] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["I believe I have as much as I can use. Thank you, young Sera."]
[01:01] <Sept> "No problem. Good luck with the project."
[01:02] <@Sarah`Lerburg> ["Thank you. Keep them safe."]
[01:03] <Sept> A solemn nod. "Yeah." Sera got up, and out of the room.
