Sera S Matchmaking

[06:34] <Minaplo> [The Eva units had returned home, Yanmei and Sera had gone their separate ways. The other battles were being fought by the other squads now, ones that could carry the fight through.-
[06:39] <Minaplo> [A few hours later, William arrived as well, in an Eva scored with burns and cuts and other wounds; weapons dry, ammo depleted, armour in several areas melted bare. Where William went after that was a mystery- it wasn't to medical, or any other place. In fact he really only resurfaced the day after, in the Geofront's science labs, where he was helping them test the new fusion weapons.]
[06:52] <Sept> Sera hadn't been trying too hard to find William the previous day. He'd had a lot to think about. But now that he'd found him, he politely camped out where he wouldn't interfere with the experiments, but would be in full view of William. Sera could appreciate the concentration required for Science. Even though this might've been the social equivalent of sticking his face up against the
[06:52] <Sept> glass.
[06:58] <Minaplo> [The new weapons were powerful, that much was obvious. The tests resulted mostly in near-blinding bursts of light (Sera had been given special goggles, but they did little to stop his eyes from watering and hurting) and melted metal.-
[07:03] <Minaplo> [After about an hour and a half of this, though, William emerged from the testing chamber, taking off the goggles and rubbing at his streaming eyes.]
[07:06] <Sept> "Did you have fun?"
[07:07] <Minaplo> ["Hardly." Said William. "They might be good for an Eva, but up-close they kill your eyes."]
[07:09] <Sept> "Imagine what they'd do if you could surprise someone with that. Flashbang -and- instant death."
[07:11] <Minaplo> ["If you had the strength to lug it." Said William. "The personal version weighs as much as a heavy machine gun."]
[07:17] <Sept> "At least we can mount some on vehicles for city defense purposes. Would've been a help with Malchediel. Let's go." Sera gestured toward the corridors.
[07:18] <Minaplo> ["Where are we going?"]
[07:22] <Sept> "We have to talk."
[07:23] <Minaplo> [William's expression darkened. "Alright, then."]
[07:33] * Sept led him to what had once been a bustling cafeteria, and was now a partly-lit hall full of the noise of workers and their equipment trying to make it look passable again. Sera tried the water tap on the counter, but there was something very wrong about the liquid's color. All the perishables had… perished, undoubtedly on a journey through time and space much longer than what the
[07:33] * Sept pilots had gone through. He motioned William to a table around the middle of the room.
[07:40] <Minaplo> ["What a mess." Murmured William, taking a seat. "They have canned rations up on C Floor."]
[07:53] <Sept> "Mmh. Do you have any idea what any of Primus' information meant?"
[07:56] <Minaplo> ["There's a lot to go over. Anything in particular you want my opinion on?"]
[08:02] <Sept> "Your soul. I mistakenly thought it was something long gone. But it confirmed you're her Adam. This obviously changes a lot."
[08:05] <Minaplo> ["Does it?"]
[08:09] <Sept> "It might be… beneficial, if the two of you were together. You would be in a unique position to protect her. And vice versa."
[08:43] <Minaplo> [William sighed, a sad sound. It seemed he had been dwelling on this. "I know. But she's- she's not in the frame of mind to make that decision."]
[08:57] <Sept> "Of course. I guess I just want to let you know I support you on that. Whatever the hell that means. She's still a very important friend to me."
[08:58] <Minaplo> [William gave Sera a curious look. "You do? I'm- I'm a little surprised."]
[09:00] <Sept> "What do you mean by that?"
[09:07] <Minaplo> ["Well- I mean, I-I'd be intruding. On her life. In a huge way."]
[09:10] <Sept> "That hasn't stopped you so far. But I'm not suggesting you get rid of Shinji in any way. We can deal with this rationally."
[09:11] <Minaplo> ["Oh?"]
[09:11] <Sept> "You aren't celibate, are you?"
[09:12] <Minaplo> ["I- what?!"]
[09:13] <Sept> "Fair question. I don't know how your religion works."
[09:13] <Minaplo> ["Weren't you raised in Paris…?"]
[09:17] <Sept> "No one 'raised' me here, and it wasn't 'me'. I know Paris, and I know it has a lot of people. People you can't assume to know everything about just because they live in Paris. Please."
[09:24] <Minaplo> ["But- that isn't what I- nevermind." William covers his eyes with his hand, his cheeks burning red. "I'm not a monk, so strictly speaking I'm not… Celibate. But it's frowned upon to- to engage in congress outside of wedlock."]
[09:26] <Sept> "Good. We can have a talk about this with her once she's recovered."
[09:27] <Minaplo> ["A talk about -what-?"]
[09:29] <Sept> "A Libido Effect, between the two of you. That's what we've been talking about. It's also probably what the HIC were expecting and hoping for, but it doesn't mean we can't use it better than them."
[09:31] <Minaplo> ["But- but… Do you- what- that's insane! She won't go for that!"]
[09:35] <Sept> "Don't be ridiculous. She wants to live. It's -the right move-."
[09:40] <Minaplo> ["I -really- think you're underestimating how she'll react to this."]
[09:47] <Sept> "Maybe. I appreciate the… obstacles. But that's where you come in. You're closer to her. You can lay this out in a way that won't freak her out."
[09:48] <Minaplo> ["Are you sure? I'm not certain I can frame 'Let me get you pregnant, Aline' in a way that won't freak her out. Unless she's high on painkillers."]
[09:48] <Sept> "You're making this unnecessarily complicated. Why does she have to get pregnant?"
[09:49] <Minaplo> [William stared at Sera.-
[09:49] <Minaplo> ["… That's how it works."]
[09:54] <Sept> "Well, yes, but only for a little while. It doesn't have to be a whole thing."
[09:54] <Minaplo> ["… What does that mean? You can't get someone a littlepregnant."]
[10:01] <Sept> Irritation finally began to show on Sera's face. "Look, for christ's- It would take so much more time to find another way for this. Do you want her to keep wearing her mind out by herself?"
[10:02] <Minaplo> ["No! God no, I don't! I want to help her, I want to -be- with her more than anything- but- but this is bonkers."]
[10:13] * Sept sighed. "We can make this work. It would -really- help us."
[10:14] <Minaplo> ["I know, I'm just not sure-" He broke off, looking at something past Sera's shoulder.]
[10:15] <Sept> "Of course not, that's why I'm- what?"
[10:17] <Minaplo> ["Who're they?" Asked William, nodding at the sight behind Sera's head.]
[10:18] <Sept> "Who, the workers?" Sera turned around.
[10:18] <Minaplo> [Sera would see immediately who William meant.-
[10:23] <Minaplo> [There were two of them, and they obviously weren't workers. They were soldiers- they stood at around 5'10, and wore curious, smooth armour of dark, dusky yellow; it covered their chest, upper legs and arms, and was made up entirely of ceramic-like plates that overlocked and covered the other. The unarmoured parts of their body were robed in dark red fabric. They wore rounded helmets that
[10:23] <Minaplo> looked sealed to the armour; the helmets didn't possess any visible holes for eyes, but instead a single cyclopean red light was placed within the centre of the visor, above a smaller green one. They casually held rifles in their arms- ones Sera didn't recognise. They were long, elegant and rectangular, with no visible chambers or ammo clips.]
[10:30] <Sept> "PMC? I wouldn't worry just yet. NERV's in a bad shape. Just stay on guard, as usual."
[10:32] <Minaplo> [They walked over to Sera, looking down at him. One spoke, the voice given a faint electronic edge. "Boy, is this the cafeteria?"]
[10:40] * Sept faced the speaker, looking mildly annoyed. "What, this doesn't look like a place for casual socialisation to you? Help yourself to a sandwich if you want. They're on the house, I think."
[10:42] <Minaplo> [The soldier looked at the other, who shrugged. He looked back. "I heard the Geofront cafeteria had some great food."-
[10:42] <Minaplo> ["I'm sick of rations. Let's risk it."-
[10:42] <Minaplo> [They walked off towards the kitchen, William eying them both closely.]
[10:45] <Sept> "Tourists," Sera concluded. "Probably know their business, though."
[10:46] <Minaplo> ["They're a little too heavily armed to be tourists."]
[10:53] <Sept> "I mean they probably won't be staying. Anyway, we'll handle all of that when she's back. But there was something else I wanted to say."
[10:56] <Minaplo> ["What's that?"]
[11:00] <Sept> "Primus was right. This whole conflict shouldn't and can't exist. We have to consider our options."
[11:13] <Minaplo> ["What do we do? It's not like the Angels will just leave."]
[11:16] <Sept> "And if we will?"
[11:17] <Minaplo> ["… How would we even manage that?"]
[11:22] <Sept> "Logistically? Just keep pushing the AT and Eva technologies we already have. But convincing everyone, -anyone-, must be the hard part. If someone's in a position to make it happen, it's us, so we should at least consider it."
[11:24] <Minaplo> ["But- but hold on." William murmured. "Why should we leave?"]
[11:27] <Sept> "I see that as the only alternative to finding a diplomatic solution. I think a diplomatic solution that also served our long-term needs would end up being too close to Azariah's plans."
[11:31] <Minaplo> ["What do you mean?"]
[11:35] <Sept> "Limiting Angels and humans to, let's say, half of the planet each wouldn't satisfy either side. The most effective solution would be something like Azariah's endgame, an 'ascension' of mankind, turning it into something more Angelic. Of course, the same would have to be true of them. I don't want that, and I -hope- most people don't, either."
[11:37] <Minaplo> ["What about the flip side of that? Find a way to send the Angels away."]
[11:42] * Sept slammed his open palm on the table. "No! We're supposed to work together eventually! Do you want to start another civil war?!"
[11:42] <Minaplo> ["What? It's the same thing as you want to do to humanity but in reverse!"]
[11:47] <Sept> "We can -agree- on it! If either one is just thrown off, don't you think they'll spend -every last minute- of their four thousand years looking for a way back for revenge?! Don't be stupid!"
[11:48] <Minaplo> ["So- so you're asking me to agree to convince humanity to just up and leave the planet to the Angels? People won't agree to that either! It's absurd!"-
[11:52] <Minaplo> [Even with the sound of the drills and hammers in the background, people were starting to look over now. Even the two strange soldiers, who had been debating the risk inherent to the -one- good sandwich left in the kitchen, were staring over at them now.]
[12:03] <Sept> "-It's not yours-! You've done nothing, -we've- done nothing to earn it, and we agreed on this!" Sera glanced around, now aware of the eyes and ears on them.
[12:07] <Minaplo> ["I didn't-" William covered his face with his hands. "Look, let's- let's leave this for now. Here. We'll discuss -this- with Aline as well, see what she thinks, alright? If she thinks it's a good idea, then we'll go with that."]
[12:17] <Sept> "…yes. We'll discuss all of this thoroughly with her. I'll. See you around. Thanks for the time." Sera pushed himself off the table and got up.
[12:18] <Minaplo> [William stayed there for awhile as Sera left, before with a sigh he too stood and left.]
[12:19] <Sept> "You two." Sera motioned to the two soldiers as he passed by. "You don't want to do that. I have a better proposition for you."
[12:20] <Minaplo> ["Why not?" Asked one of the soldiers, holding the sandwich in his glove.]
[12:23] <Sept> "Hand it over."
[12:23] <Minaplo> ["What's in it for us?"]
[12:25] <Sept> "I said I have a better proposition. This wasn't all the fresh food on the Geofront. I'm -trying- to help you."
[12:26] <Minaplo> [The two soldiers look at each other. "Alright, then." The sandwich-bearer hands it over suspiciously.]
[12:28] * Sept immediately tossed it on the floor and stomped on it with one foot. There was a spark, and a sound that might've come from the construction equipment and definitely not from the sandwich.-
[12:28] <Sept> Sera removed the foot, and the sandwich was still there, intact, with a slight fading sheen to it. "Still want to eat it?"
[12:29] <Minaplo> ["… I'm not sure if we can." Said the soldier gravely.]
[12:36] <Sept> "Right. Come on. We have work to do."
