Sera S Transgression

[18:14] * Sept had seen way too much of this elevator for his liking. Yet here he was again, and entirely voluntarily, on his way to the Director's office. For once, most of his recent injuries were limited to his torso, so a simple coat covered all signs of them.
[18:15] <Minaplo> [Trundle trundle. The Elevator climbed slowly- as always. Eventually it came to a stop, the doors opening.-
[18:16] <Minaplo> [He'd probably seen too much of this office, too, but the office had changed. Commander Hohenzollern had not apparently agreed with the spartan settings of Commander Fontaine, nor the psychologically intimidating settings of Commander Ikari, who had deliberately shaped the entire room to project his own power.-
[18:26] <Minaplo> [Now the room sported a much softer, even attractive look. A large bed sat in a corner, with a very impressive kitchen and dining table; an impromptu living room had been set up, with several sofas and recliners, even a little coffee table, in front of a large television, which sat on a display cabinet. It was on one of these sofas that Commaner Hohenzollern now sat, her uniform jacket lying over the back of a recliner. The television was displaying a report on LN remnant activity across the world; little red dots littered Latin America, Africa and southeast Asia.-
[18:27] <Minaplo> [A little ways away, the desk and chair of the Commander of NERV stood alone and unloved.]
[18:33] * Sept looked at the desk for a few moments before stepping in and turning to Hohenzollern. "Hello."
[18:35] <Minaplo> ["Evening, de Pteres."]
[18:37] <Sept> "Busy?"
[18:39] <Minaplo> ["Not too busy. Just watching a report." She said quietly, sipping from a cup of what looked like coffee. "Are you hungry?"]
[18:47] <Sept> "…I wouldn't turn down non-hospital nourishment, no. Shall I?" Sera motioned toward the kitchen. There was a certain strained overtone to his speech.
[18:49] <Minaplo> [She waved vaguely towards the kitchen. "Feel free."]
[18:56] * Sept took his time raiding the fridge for some eggs to make an omelette. When the pan was sizzling and his meal was almost ready, Sera spoke up again. "Why aren't you more concerned about Anselme?"
[19:00] <Minaplo> ["I'm trusting you're referring to his inherent security clearance?"]
[19:04] <Sept> "Yeah, that. Our defenses aren't in top condition to begin with, so why wasn't he more of a priority right away?"
[19:06] <Minaplo> ["Ultimately he isn't as much of a security risk as one might think. There've been a lot of safeguards built in to prevent such a seemingly obvious security risk being exploited."]
[19:10] * Sept flipped the omelette, eyeing it critically. "Really? How do you safeguard against security being shut down?"
[19:12] <Minaplo> ["'Shut down'?"]
[19:17] <Sept> "There isn't anywhere in the complex where you could use his identity to make us vulnerable to some other type of attack?"
[19:19] <Minaplo> ["Almost. Most systems don't require his identity to work, but are instead divorced from that particular security system. The ones that -do- require it have redundancies, such as codes."]
[19:23] <Sept> "Well, if you're certain those are secure. What about the Evangelion?"
[19:25] <Minaplo> ["There are a lot of methods used to secure an Eva. You know that." She said, her tone teacher-like. "Many of them work both ways, and some of them require either high-level clearance or the sort of manpower only a mass revolt brings. And if that's the situation we're in then there's not much we can do either way."]
[19:31] * Sept scooped up the omelette onto a plate and started his meal while leaning on a wall. "How difficult would it be to transfer all of those privileges to someone else?"
[19:32] <Minaplo> ["The Caine privileges, or the Eva security privileges?"]
[19:33] <Sept> "Elisha's."
[19:38] <Minaplo> ["Not too difficult, providing everyone involved cooperates. Such high-level legacy privileges can be transferred providing the person with the privileges desires to surrender them, confirmed by someone else with the same privilege."]
[19:48] <Sept> "It would be easier for the both of us if Aline had all of it, instead."
[19:49] <Minaplo> ["Blanc? Why her?" Asked Hohenzollern curiously.]
[19:56] <Sept> "We still don't know all we should about William. I can't make a reliable judgment on Isaiah's state. So, Blanc. She's the most dependable."
[19:57] <Minaplo> ["Why not Zhang?"]
[20:04] <Sept> "Isaiah. He's still a factor, no matter how unlikely."
[20:05] <Minaplo> ["Hold on." Hohenzollern sat up a little more now. "Why transfer it to a pilot in the first place?"]
[20:07] <Sept> "What do you mean?"
[20:08] <Minaplo> ["What do you mean? If you're going to have these security privileges placed in the hands of any one person you don't give them to your front line. Why not Colonel Amatore?"]
[20:14] * Sept raised an eyebrow and looked the Director in the eyes. "This is not trench warfare, and -we- aren't footsoldiers." He turned back to his omelette. "Amatore is more expendable than any of us."
[20:16] <Minaplo> ["She's safer." Said Hohenzollern. "And she's used to authority. I'd trust her with it."]
[20:17] <Sept> "And I wouldn't."
[20:17] <Minaplo> ["Why not?"]
[20:21] <Sept> "You'd have an unfair advantage over her, for starters."
[20:22] <Minaplo> ["As opposed to an unfair advantage over Blanc?"]
[20:22] <Sept> "I would hope less so with Aline."
[20:25] <Minaplo> ["I think you'll find that I'd possess an even greater 'unfair advantage' over Blanc, whatever that means."]
[20:27] <Sept> "And what does that mean?"
[20:28] <Minaplo> [A sigh escaped Hohenzollern's lips. "It means that pound for pound, it's actually easier to control Blanc than it is Amatore."]
[20:53] <Sept> "And I don't believe that. But giving it to Marianne would mean one more life for me to worry about. That's why the pilots here are the best choice."
[20:54] <Minaplo> [Her eyebrows rose. "For logistical expediency? If you -must- have a pilot, why not Weiss-Xylander?"]
[20:58] * Sept finished his meal, and quickly washed off the plate. "Don't know exactly what he is. Don't know anything about his Eva. I'd need convincing information."
[21:00] <Minaplo> ["He's a pilot, a loyal capable pilot with a good head on his shoulders- why isn't that enough?"]
[21:08] <Sept> "With a questionable background. In our circumstances, that's more than enough for suspicion."
[21:08] <Minaplo> ["Questionable? Howso?"]
[21:14] <Sept> "His relation to Aline is inconsistent. That's possibly the biggest issue. Where did they meet? Did they meet? Who arranged it?"
[21:14] <Minaplo> ["That's an issue?"]
[21:16] <Sept> "Yes."
[21:16] <Minaplo> ["Why? It seems irrelevant!"]
[21:19] <Sept> "He's your candidate. And I'm telling you that gap in our information poses a bigger risk than anything Aline could be made to do."
[21:20] <Minaplo> ["Really. I'm not sure that's true."]
[21:26] <Sept> "-Look-, if we can't ascertain his origins, we can't rule out programming, we can't rule out Libido Effect incidents, and I can't trust him!"
[21:28] <Minaplo> [Hohenzollern stared at Sera flatly for a long while, before finally responding. "Libido Effect incidents?"]
[21:33] <Sept> "It's not unreasonable to think his memories of her could hint at a connection. What do -you- have on him that makes him so trustworthy?"
[21:35] <Minaplo> [She continued to stare at him with a look that, compared to the almost languid expressions she'd been using when Sera had entered, was now sharp and laser-focused. "I have his entire personal file that details his history from childhood onwards. Who do you think he's going to betray us to? The Angels?"]
[21:51] <Sept> "There's -never- been a shortage of organizations trying to influence our work. You know that. This is exactly what they've always been doing, even when that was still my desk. Fabricating history, sending their pets in here."
[21:52] <Minaplo> ["Do you honestly think William would've been chosen as a pilot if we didn't go over him with a fine-toothed comb? What makes -you- a better arbiter of the trustworthiness of a pilot than the ones to whom the responsibility is given to choose the pilots in the first place?"]
[22:00] <Sept> "Is it 'we', now? Were you involved in that investigation?"
[22:00] <Minaplo> ["If you're going to argue pointless semantics, then you can leave."]
[22:04] <Sept> "I know Mary is fighting a different battle than I am. Are you sure you don't owe them too much to see the risks their choices cause?"
[22:06] <Minaplo> ["It's not a case of debt or owing. It's a case of trust. I know about trust, and I am -bitterly- disappointed that you do not trust your superiors, or even your own comrades-in-arms."]
[22:14] <Sept> "There's a time for trust. We have so much to lose."
[22:20] <Minaplo> ["Then isn't the time to trust -now-? For goodness' sake, I'm not Ikari. I'm not your enemy, and I don't -want- to be. But you're refusing to trust someone who has done nothing but assist you wholeheartedly, and then when those who can fully verify that person's trust speak up, that isn't enough either."]
[22:23] <Sept> "Then what happened to Michel Leon? Did he never exist?" Sera snapped.
[22:25] <Minaplo> [Hohenzollern stood up, turning the television off with the remote as she did so. "How did you come by that name?"]
[22:28] * Sept took a step forward, though he was still well on the other side of the room. "Paid attention."
[22:29] <Minaplo> ["Tell me."]
[22:32] * Sept considered her for a while longer. "Elisha. Then I confirmed it in the archives. Your turn."
[22:36] <Minaplo> [Her eyes narrowed. "My turn nothing. I'm not beholden to you, pilot. You're not telling the entire story."]
[22:50] <Sept> "It was around when everything surrounding Ramliel happened. I was looking up Elisha's data on the Libido Effect, to determine the actual risks. E-genes with access to Seeds, what happened with the Bellamies. There was a list of the known pairings. We should've been told these things!"
[22:54] <Minaplo> ["No, you shouldn't have. This wasn't information for you." Said Hohenzollern coldly. "This information means nothing to those who do not know it. In fact, the more people who are aware of it, the more dangerous it becomes. If you had just left well enough alone, things could've turned out so -differently-!"-
[22:55] <Minaplo> [The elevator doors opened. With a clank of armour and the thudding of heavy footsteps, a fully-armed five-man squad of Storm Troopers burst out, pulse rifles at the ready.-
[22:55] <Minaplo> ["Troopers, take de Pteres and throw him into the brig."]
[23:03] <Sept> "Have it your way. But I'll be prepared, Hannelore. I'll make sure we all are." He walked into the elevator, assisted or no.
[23:04] <Minaplo> [Hannelore stared at him with ice-cold eyes as the Troopers flanked him.-
[23:05] <Minaplo> ["You have one week, de Pteres, one week to start trusting those around you. Otherwise you consider yourself terminated from this organisation."-
[23:05] <Minaplo> [The doors closed.]
[23:07] * Sept took a look at the Troopers around him. "Yeah, you guys I can trust to do your job. Absolutely," he said, with the utmost sincerity.
[23:08] <Minaplo> [Within the office…-
[23:09] <Minaplo> [Hannelore took a deep breath, halting with force of will the quivers in her body. She turned back towards the desk, with its glowing bright symbols and lights above and below.-
[23:10] <Minaplo> ["Did you call those troopers?" Asked Hannelore.-
[23:10] <Minaplo> [A shape crackled into existence before the desk. It was a holographic projection of Mary Caine.-
[23:10] <Minaplo> ["Of course. He was becoming impudent." Said Caine icily. "You played along well."-
[23:11] <Minaplo> ["I couldn't really feign surprise. What do you want me to do with him? He's fairly stubborn- I really do not think my threat to him will hold any water at all."-
[23:11] <Minaplo> ["You were bluffing?"-
[23:11] <Minaplo> ["I couldn't -really- restrict him to 01. We need him." Said Hannelore.-
[23:11] <Minaplo> ["Do we?"-
[23:12] <Minaplo> [A cold silence filled the air. It lasted for entirely too long for Hannelore's liking.-
[23:12] <Minaplo> ["Hold him." Said Caine coldly.-
[23:12] <Minaplo> ["For how long? What am I supposed to do?"-
[23:12] <Minaplo> ["Nothing." Said Caine. "It is time I dealt with him myself."]
