She Said I M Not Childish

[13:18] <Victor‘Clement> [It was only a day after Yanmei had woken up, and she -felt- fine. Everything seemed to work and although parts of her skin stung from light burns… Well, she’d manage.-
[13:18] * Victor‘Clement knocked on the door, opening it. "Here for a checkup."
[13:21] * Yanmei sat up with a smile. She had been flipping half-heartedly through some magazines, and even if it was the father of someone she had been mean to lately, she welcomed the additional company. "Hello Doctor. It might not be much of one, actually? I feel okay."
[13:23] <Victor`Clement> "Yes, so I’ve been told." He entered. "I told Gabriel-Wei that I'd do one last checkup, then discharge you if it was to my liking, so let's see…" He headed over to the bed, taking out a blood pressure kit. "Arm out."
[13:25] * Yanmei complied, dropping her magazine onto a small stack of reading materials that included some textbooks. Apparently she hadn't just been sleeping or lazing around.
[13:26] <Victor‘Clement> "Studying?" The band went around her upper arm.
[13:30] <Yanmei> "Yeah." Wariness hidden behind a slightly brighter smile. "Test coming up."
[13:35] <Victor`Clement> ["Ah. It’s a shame you keep getting hurt." He said, as he started to pump the band, which compressed. "How many times have you ended up in my care now?"]
[13:38] <Yanmei> "A lot, I guess? But it's not like it can be helped. Anyway…" she grinned. "If we're keeping count, I'd say de Pteres had a pretty high number of visits too."
[13:39] <Victor‘Clement> ["True enough, but your visits tend to be far more serious. Not only yours." He gave her a serious look. "I’ve helped you and Gabriel-Wei out a good deal, haven't I?"]
[13:40] <Yanmei> "Yeah…" She averted her eyes for a moment. "It's something we're really grateful for."
[13:42] <Victor‘Clement> [The band was becoming tight. Very tight.-
[13:43] <Victor`Clement> "So why would you repay me by making my daughter’s life a living hell?"
[13:47] <Yanmei> "Um." Yanmei shifted uncomfortably, not the least because of the slight pain that was starting to build on her arm. But there was no quick PR fix to this, was, there? "…how long have you known?"
[13:50] <Victor‘Clement> "About a few days. The school rang me up on Monday and told me Elena had been in a fight, so I picked her up early." His face was calm, but his eyes, usually gentle, were ice cold. "She was a sobbing mess by the time we got home. She told me this had been going on for more than a year."
[13:53] * Yanmei grit her teeth. She was still not looking directly at him. "I w-won’t deny it. It's true."
[13:54] <Victor‘Clement> "Why did you do it? Why Elena of all people? She has it hard enough because I’m not around…"
[13:59] <Yanmei> "I don't know if it had to be her. I -do- like you, Doctor, but…" She trailed off for a moment trying to think of how to explain it.-
[14:02] <Yanmei> "Have you ever had a feeling build up inside of you that was so intense that you thought you would go crazy if you didn't let it out in some way? So then you, kick over something, or break something, and then you feel more like yourself if only for a little while."-
[14:04] <Yanmei> She tried flexing her fingers a little, and it felt as if pins were digging into them. "That's how it started. And it was her because she was there. And it was a stupid thing to do, but it -worked-."
[14:08] <Victor‘Clement> "You… Childish imbecile." Muttered Dr. Clement. "Elena isn’t some release for your emotions. She's a living, breathing person with thoughts and feelings. It doesn't matter if you needed to 'let it out'. You -never- let it out on another person! It's cruel, and it doesn't fix anything, not even if you think it does. Is this what you -want- to be, Zhang? A childish bully who hurts others because she doesn't know how to handle herself?"
[14:17] <Yanmei> "I'm not childish. And I -am- handling it? It's just sometimes I…" Her voice was a little wounded, but she was doing her best to keep it otherwise calm. Her eyes had lowered sullenly to the bedsheets bunched around her legs. "What else am I supposed to do, then?"
[14:23] <Victor‘Clement> "You -are- childish. An adult would never let it become this bad." Snapped Dr. Clement. "If you’re feeling so emotional, then you need to speak to someone about it. Isaiah- I know he wouldn't let this continue if he knew. There are healthier ways to purge those sorts of feelings as well that don't involve hurting innocent people."
[14:35] * Yanmei clenched her teeth a little bit but tried to let it go. -He- had a right to be pissed off too. "Isaiah found out too, actually. He was pretty furious." She frowned, hard. "It's going to stop either way."
[14:42] <Victor‘Clement> "Make sure it does, Zhang." Said Dr. Clement. "I’ll be speaking to Isaiah about this. I'm giving you one last chance. If this happens again, I'll be speaking to Captain Amatore-DeForest, and I'll be confronting your mother about it as well."
[14:47] <Yanmei> "…" The latter threat did make her blood run cold for a moment, but she was damned if she was going to show it. "…I take it that this checkup is over, then?"
[14:49] <Victor‘Clement> "Open your mouth. I want to check your temperature."
[14:51] * Yanmei watched the man warily for a moment. To see if he did in fact have a thermometer and was not simply setting her up to be more vulnerable.
[14:51] <Victor`Clement> Of course he had a thermometer.
[14:52] <Yanmei> So Yanmei slowly opened her mouth.
[14:53] * Victor`Clement placed the thermometer in Yanmei’s mouth, keeping it there as it took the reading. Then, with his other hand, he firmly grasped her jaw and stared her straight in the eye.
[14:57] <Yanmei> "Hngh?!" She stared back at him. But her surprise was already starting to fade, being taken over by a sort of expectant grimness.
[15:00] <Victor‘Clement> "If you were in my place, you’d do the same thing." He said firmly. "If it were someone bullying Isaiah, I'm sure you'd go a step further, in fact."
[15:04] <Yanmei> Her eyes hardened into her own sharp glare, thinking back. Even under the proper circumstances, she probably wouldn't have come up with an answer for him.
[15:08] * Victor‘Clement didn’t loosen his grip. "If this doesn't improve- and I'm not talking just about Elena, either. If I hear an inkling that this is happening -at all-, I'll take the necessary precautions. Do you understand me? I'm the one who has to tutor Isaiah- I'm the one who is responsible for him one day becoming a doctor, and that's in my hands." He let the unsaid threat hang in the air for a second. "So that's why I'm going to try to help him help you."
[15:12] <Yanmei> A grunt of protest at something he'd said. She started to make an attempt to pull free.
[15:14] * Victor‘Clement didn’t let go. "I like Isaiah. And I used to respect you, too. If this were a one-off, I could understand, but not when it's been going on for so damn long. I want to respect you again once more, Yanmei, so this is all you get. One last chance to grow up." He let her go, pulling out the thermometer and checking it.
[15:20] * Yanmei drew back sharply, kneading her jaw for a moment. "Dragging him into this when he isn't even your target…" she was glaring, furious, "isn't that a little hypocritical?"
[15:21] <Victor‘Clement> "Yes, it is. I guess that makes hypocrites of us both."
[15:25] * Yanmei didn’t drop her glare, but she didn't say anything else, either. Just waiting for the minute when he'd turn around and leave.
[15:28] <Victor‘Clement> "I think with this, you’re healthy enough to be discharged." He stood up, heading for the door. "Good day, Yanmei."
[15:31] <Yanmei> "Goodbye, Doctor," she said flatly. If she was lucky, she wouldn't have to come back here again. But… she wasn't that lucky, was she?
[15:34] <Victor`Clement> [The door closed, leaving Yanmei to stew with her thoughts.]
