She Said You Can Tell Me Anything Of Course

[19:25] <Sarah‘Lerburg> [[Session 31: NEON GENESIS EVANGELION. Date: Sunday, 3rd July, 2016. Episode Title: "You can tell me anything, of course."-
[19:29] <Sarah`Lerburg> [Dorian Lachapelle took a drag from a cigarette. "Right. Who’s next?"-
[19:30] <Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Them." Muttered Sophie.-
[19:31] <Sarah`Lerburg> ["Fantastic." Groaned Dorian. He looked around the crowded observation booth up at the wall of televisions. One of them in particular was focused on a comfortable-looking… It wasn’t quite an office, but it wasn't a living room either. More a sort of interview room.-
[19:34] <Sarah‘Lerburg> [An hour ago, the three pilots, along with a few other people- Raphael Guillory, Frederic Gosselin, and a nervous technician from Dr. Riel’s department- had been called to a waiting room in the Geofront. It was here that they now waited- waited their turn to be interviewed by Sarah Lerburg and her colleagues. Lerburg worked for a German film company- the very same one that had been given the task of creating a movie about the exploits of NERV during the last year and a half. These people had to be interviewed, asked questions…-
[19:35] <Sarah‘Lerburg> [A few other people were there too, not called, but along anyway. Sergeant Kirishima accompanied Raphael like the faithful aide-de-camp she was, and at some point Dr. Castillo-Delgado had wandered in and, engaged in conversation with Gosselin, had apparently forgotten to leave.]
[19:41] * Sept waited like a good pilot, not looking particularly nervous or otherwise affected by the circumstances. His feet swung back and forth slightly as he sat staring into the distance, every now and then casting a quick glance at his fellow pilots, offering an encouraging smile as eyes met.
[19:41] * Aline had decided to, maybe to just make the film people a bit more… comfortable? Amused? Something. But she was wearing a dress-coat in her EVA’s blood-red hue, somewhat light and open in the front… with a (thankfully soft and semi-pastel, rather than eye-searing neon) yellow shirt under it with an accompanying khaki skirt to cover her lower area. She was waiting calmly, for now.
[19:42] * Raphael looked unmistakeably annoyed by the interruption, but not even a long discussion with Marianne had managed to rescue him from it. He was, of course, in perfect uniform, and he had his arms folded across his chest as he stared across at the opposite wall. "You don't have to wait here, Miss Kirishima. One of us should be achieving something worthwhile, at least."
[19:45] * Yanmei preened. She was looking her best and feeling good today. She was wearing a nice dark dress instead of her uniform, the usual adorable boots, and blue-tinted sunglasses. And of course… she was also wearing a faint grin. One that was almost eager, despite best efforts to look nonchalant.
[19:48] <Sarah‘Lerburg> ["Sir…" Sergeant Kirishima stared up at him. "If you say so, sir, but I will nevertheless be waiting when you return."-
[19:53] <Sarah`Lerburg> One of the doors in the waiting room opened. Doctor Clement emerged, looking mildly dazed. He walked off, but a woman emerged from the room he’d just left. She was rather tall, taller than the pilots at least; she had long dark red hair and green eyes. "Alright, all the rooms are now empty, so if we can have, ah… Let's see. Zhang Yanmei is with me. Sera de Pteres can take room number 2, Aline Blanc room number 3. Mr. Gosselin can have room 4, and Sir Guillory can have room 5." She clapped her hands.
[19:56] <Yanmei> "Good luck you guys~" Yanmei wasted no time standing. An eye lingered over Sept in particular for a moment, something slightly unreadable in them, before she turned and strolled off with one last wave.
[19:57] * Aline stood up as well. "Okay~"
[19:57] <Sept> "Right! Don't worry, I'm sure it'll go well!"
[19:58] * Raphael gives Mana a rough facsimilie of a smile before he too stands up. "See if you can talk Julien down from adding those damned rocket boosters to the Dreadnaughts while I'm busy here, Sergeant."
[19:59] <Raphael> «facsimile*»
[20:00] <Sarah‘Lerburg> ["I’ll try, sir!"-
[20:02] * Sarah‘Lerburg led Yanmei into a comfortable-looking room, dominated by two plush armchairs and a low table. Lerburg closed the door behind Yanmei and sat, taking out a little writing pad. "So~ Full name, please!"
[20:03] <Yanmei> "Zhang Yanmei." Yanmei also sat, all cheerful smiles. "A pleasure to meet you!"
[20:07] <Sarah`Lerburg> "And you. I’m Sarah Lerburg, as you may already know." A smile, a hand offered.
[20:12] * Yanmei shook it. "Of course, Ms. Lerburg. I hope that NERV's been pretty hospitable to you and your crew?"
[20:15] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Oh, very much so. A little more than expected. Ah…" Scribble. "Date of birth?"
[20:17] <Yanmei> "November 28th, 2000," she said, settling comfortably into her backrest.
[20:23] <Sarah`Lerburg> [Scribble. "So. You’re aware of the Xeno War: Evangelion movie, yes?"]
[20:25] <Yanmei> "I've heard of the movie's premise. If you're hear talking to us, I presume that you're still in the scriptwriting process?"
[20:26] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "You’re correct. How perceptive!"
[20:30] * Yanmei chuckled. "It's just a natural conclusion to draw, you know. But I'm curious, too. How are things coming along with that? And the interviews in general? Getting to sit down and gather information like this must be a fun part of your job."
[20:33] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "It can be tiring. Especially if the person I’m interviewing is recalcitrant or in no mood to share. There was a technician in here earlier who was so damned vague…"
[20:36] <Yanmei> "Oh?" Yanmei shook her head. "That's a shame. But some people simply don't care for a lot of attention, I suppose."
[20:36] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "You’re different?"
[20:38] <Yanmei> "It's not something I shy away from. At the same time? I don't go out of my way to gain it. It's one of those things I simply go along with."
[20:38] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Ah, I see. A free swimmer." Sarah winked. "That’s the best way to handle it, you know. Very mature."
[20:40] <Yanmei> "Why thank you!" Yanmei flashed a brighter smile now. It was hard not to warm up to the lady after that.
[20:41] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Hmm~" She smiled. "What are you expecting from the movie?"
[20:45] <Yanmei> "It’s hard to say. Not much information has been released about it. I'm assuming that it will focus mainly on the Angel attacks here in Paris, with emphasis on the battles themselves?"
[20:47] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Oh, here and there. It’s actually a mix of the battles and insight into the brave young men and women doing the fighting."
[20:49] <Yanmei> "No wonder you're interviewing us. You're trying to see into the aspects of NERV and its employees and the pilots that aren't normally on public display. Interesting!"
[20:50] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Of course. Many people are interested in you and the others who work here. Can you blame them?"
[20:50] <Yanmei> "I can’t," she agreed. "In their position I would be curious too."
[20:52] * Sarah‘Lerburg smiled. "Exactly. Now, let’s see. You pilot EVA-04, right? What's it like?"
[20:56] <Yanmei> "It takes a lot of concentration, as you can imagine, to move something that large in such a fluid manner. They make us practice so often with simulations and tests that it's all pretty routine now, though."
[20:58] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "What’re those tests like?"
[21:03] <Yanmei> "A little boring." Yanmei grinned. "How much have you gathered about the piloting process from technicians or scientists? The tests are for their benefit too, as they collect a lot of data from it."
[21:06] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "You use some sort of intuitive system that traces your movements. It’s a little complex for me…"
[21:10] <Yanmei> "Heh. No kidding." She gave her the sort of look that suggested she had been there too. "It's like, we focus not on movements necessarily, but on maintaining that link between the system and ourselves. In short, we often just end up sitting there for a while as the bridge collects data and runs various… applications, I suppose? I haven't really questioned the specifics. Simulations are different, though."
[21:12] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Oh?"
[21:15] <Yanmei> "They basically close an EVA off in a special room and give it limited mobility. Then the pilot is immersed in a virtual reality program. Sometimes it’s just EVA-scale target practice, but more recently, they've been doing some really neat things! EVA pilots can actually face off against each other in the simulations now. Like, skirmish."
[21:15] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Really?" A quirk of the eyebrow. "Have you fought the others from Paris-2?"
[21:17] <Yanmei> "Not yet. My only challenger so far has been Germany’s Asuka Langley-Soryu. It's a pretty new application, you see…"
[21:18] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "A-ha-." A nod. "How do you think you’d fare?"
[21:19] <Yanmei> "Against the other Parisian pilots? Or against Langley-Soryu?"
[21:19] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "The other Parisian pilots."
[21:22] <Yanmei> "Huh. I think I’d have a tough time against de Pteres especially. His EVA's incredibly tough, and can take more damage than mine can. If I kept a distance between us, I think I could wear him down, though."-
[21:24] <Yanmei> "For Blanc, on the other hand, I'd have to close in quickly and take her out with melee attacks, since she doesn't do much in the way of damage at that close range. So it would depend on the strategy I used for each of them, you see?"
[21:27] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Interesting." She scribbled away for awhile, before smiling. "What’s de Pteres like?"
[21:30] <Yanmei> "What's he like?" She hesitated. "He's always a surprise. I can't tell whether he's strong or a wimp. If he's strange or well-adjusted. His moods flucuate so that he could be any of those things at any time. It's a bit hard to explain…"
[21:30] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Try your best. What makes you think he’s strange?"
[21:36] <Yanmei> "He doesn't handle crowds very well. Like -really- not well. For a while, he tended to carry a lot of weapons with him wherever he went, too. Knives." She frowned. "But that's something I haven't seen him do lately. And could you tell that he had, um… crowd-phobia from the way he was sitting in that waiting room a little while ago, surrounded by other people? Probably not."-
[21:39] <Yanmei> "And there have been times when he's been switched from being a clueless or unsure of himself to being an overbearing jerk in seconds, without warning. It's jarring?"
[21:40] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "An overbearing jerk…?"
[21:40] <Yanmei> "He’s… a little protective. Of the other pilots, mostly."
[21:40] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Including you?"
[21:41] <Yanmei> "Yes."
[21:41] <Sarah`Lerburg> "That’s a bit odd. You can obviously take care of yourself, after all."
[21:44] <Yanmei> "You noticed, huh?" She winked at her. "There are other factors involved. The fact that the three of us - no, all of the pilots - face more danger than normal because we're always going up against Angels. But also, de Pteres didn't have a family before he came here. I think he sees all the pilots as stepping into that role, and desperately wants to make sure none of them are harmed."
[21:44] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Does that make you feel uncomfortable? Being ’adopted', I mean."
[21:50] <Yanmei> "He's a good guy. I think? If it's a benefit to him, I don't mind. Just worried that he'll take it too far occassionally."
[21:51] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Take it too far?" A little playful grin. "Let me guess. Jealous big brother type?"
[21:56] <Yanmei> "Seriouly. There was this one guy, from the British air force…" she faltered a little bit, and then sighed. "It’s… still a bit of a sensitive issue? But I got to be very good friends with him. De Pteres didn't really trust him, though, because he had a bad past. So he always had this sort of watchful tension going whenever he was around."
[21:58] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Did they ever fight?"
[21:59] <Yanmei> "Not openly? The other guy was good at diffusing that sort of thing."
[22:00] <Sarah`Lerburg> "Ahh. I suppose that was fortunate." Sarah smiled. "-Has- he ever gotten into a fight? De Pteres."
[22:03] <Yanmei> "I imagine he has. He was good enough at combat when he arrived here? But…"
[22:04] <Sarah`Lerburg> "But?"
[22:07] <Yanmei> "Somehow or another? That situation has been largely avoided since he joined NERV."
[22:08] <Sarah`Lerburg> "Hmm. I guess NERV has shaped him up?"
[22:10] <Yanmei> "I don’t know if it's that. He's hardly a military guy!" Yanmei laughed a little. "I think it's just that things have never escalated that far."
[22:11] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Ah." She scribbled. "But would you say NERV’s been a good influence on him?"
[22:13] <Yanmei> "In the sense that his job here gives him a greater conviction about protecting the things that he cares about, yes."
[22:14] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "That’s a pretty specific sense."
[22:14] <Yanmei> Do you think so?" Yanmei chuckled.
[22:15] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Of course. Give a person who wants to protect something a big weapon to do it with and they’ll become more confident, but that doesn't mean all the influences will be positive."
[22:19] <Yanmei> "Hm." Yanmei closed her eyes for a moment. "I didn't really know him before his arrival. And it's not like we talked that much in the beginning? There was… a sort of innocence about him back then, though, that's gone now. The effects of war, I suppose?"
[22:20] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "I suppose." Said Sarah quietly. "Do you think you’ve been changed by the 'effects of war'?"
[22:21] <Yanmei> "I've become more cautious. I've had to take on a lot more responsibility, too."
[22:21] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Is that so?"
[22:23] <Yanmei> "Things at home. At work, too? I just had a promotion."
[22:23] <Sarah`Lerburg> "Oh? Congratulations. But. Why don’t we discuss those things at home? I want to know about that Yanmei."
[22:26] <Yanmei> "Well, ah, a friend of mine got really sick a few weeks ago. She's still recovering in the hospital, and can't take care of her daughter. We've been trying to help out with that - me and my housemates, that is. So the baby's been staying with us."
[22:26] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "In-deed-? Looking after a baby? How old is she?"
[22:28] <Yanmei> "Just slightly over a year old now. She doesn’t cry much, and is pretty easygoing, so we lucked out!"
[22:28] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "That’s good. You're handling it ok?"
[22:30] <Yanmei> "For the most part. Um… if it's all the same? Could you mind not putting her in the movie? I don't know if her mom would like that."
[22:38] * Sarah‘Lerburg chuckled. "I doubt the movie will really catch up to recent events. But you live with housemates?"
[22:39] <Yanmei> "Three of them, not including the baby. There’s Captain Marianne Amatore-DeForest. She was… actually, the one who took me in after I first moved here. She's really great! A second mother."
[22:40] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "That’s pretty high praise." Said Sarah. "And the other?"
[22:41] <Yanmei> "A classmate of mine. She moved to Paris not too long ago, so she might not make it into the movie either. But she's been with us since right after the 12th Angel's attack."
[22:42] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Really? What’s she like?"
[22:43] <Yanmei> "She likes to tease people. A lot. Endlessly." Yanmei heaved a sigh that sounded a little exhausted.
[22:43] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "O-ho-. She teases you, hmm?"
[22:44] <Yanmei> "L-let’s move on, shall we?" Change the subject, change the subject! "There's still one other roommate?"
[22:44] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Oh?"
[22:47] <Yanmei> "Isaiah. He’s my…" … did she just stumble into an equally awkward topic? "He's my… boyfriend. But it's not what you think. We're still totally under adult supervision, so…"
[22:47] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "What was I thinking?"
[22:48] <Yanmei> "Why don’t you tell me?" she said smoothly. But not smoothly enough to keep the blush that was rising to her face -completely- at bay.
[22:49] * Sarah‘Lerburg smiled. "I assumed that the two of you were in a healthy, mature romantic relationship with all that entails. Nothing more or less."
[22:51] <Yanmei> "Mature. Of course," Yanmei nodded in agreement, her arms folded. "And healthy too. He’s very dear to me."
[22:52] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "That’s sweet. Isaiah… Gabriel-Wei? Why don't you tell me a little more about him?"
[22:57] <Yanmei> "Well, he's quiet, and pretty gentle. An aspiring doctor, so you know he's pretty brilliant. There's this trick he can do, where he can look at something and guess its dimensions almost perfectly. Like, measurements and stuff? It's uncanny."
[23:01] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Indeed? That’s a pretty remarkable trick. Does it work with people, too?"
[23:03] <Yanmei> "Probably. But he wouldn't do that!" She pulled a phone out of her purse and messed around with it. "Entirely too many girls hanging around him and doing dumb things, though. Ah- please excuse me. I'm looking for something cute to show you."
[23:04] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Too many girls? Oh dear. Does he… Play around a litle?"
[23:04] <Sarah`Lerburg> *Little
[23:05] <Yanmei> "He so wouldn’t." Yanmei huffed a little. "He's actually pretty shy! They're the ones flocking to him, like I said. And he gets all red-faced and stammers when they do."
[23:06] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Oh dear. You know they say that those are the ones with the dirtiest thoughts~"
[23:08] <Yanmei> "Ah… hahaha…ha…" Weak laughter. "It’s really not like that? If you met him, you'd see. Ah, here…"-
[23:10] <Yanmei> She held up a her phone, a picture displayed on it of a delicately-built boy with fluffy blonde hair and pale skin cradling a sleeping baby. He was beaming proudly.
[23:11] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Aww, isn’t that cute. So you live with your boyfriend raising a child together?"
[23:13] <Yanmei> "Yes!" She was beaming. And then too late realized the implications. "In the most platonic way possible."
[23:14] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Come on. You can be honest with me. It’s not like I'll judge you. You can tell me anything, of course. I think it's sweet, anyway."
[23:15] <Yanmei> "The baby isn't even ours! And it's only for a little while."
[23:16] * Sarah‘Lerburg chuckled. "I know, I know. Besides, I interviewed Isaiah myself yesterday." Sarah winked. "He was very open."
[23:18] * Yanmei started to relax a little again. "So he told you all sorts of things, huh?"
[23:20] <Sarah`Lerburg> "Oh, yes. He’s obviously very deeply in love with you, considering some of the things he said."
[23:23] * Yanmei happily beamed at that. "And I'm also… well, you know."
[23:23] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Interesting. I didn’t expect you to be the bashful sort."
[23:24] <Yanmei> "I'm usually not? But I feel different about him. Isaiah's special."
[23:24] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Special?"
[23:26] <Yanmei> "I don’t think I've ever been as close to someone as I am with him. He… makes me feel completely safe."
[23:31] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "That sounds lovely, Yanmei." Said Sarah. "I’m sure his closeness has been a great comfort to you, yeah?"
[23:33] <Yanmei> "Yeah! But… there have been a lot of things looming around. He was shot before, twice, both times right in front of me. During the twelfth Angel's attack, he was hurt pretty badly too."
[23:34] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Really? He seems to get hurt a lot. That must cause a lot of stress for you."
[23:36] <Yanmei> "Well." She shifted a little, uncomfortably. "If I protected him better, I wouldn’t have to deal with it. It's nothing compared the grueling physical therapy he's had to go through."
[23:38] * Sarah‘Lerburg nodded slowly. "I’m a little surprised that you don't want to put him in a glass cabinet at this point, considering how much he means to you."
[23:43] * Yanmei chuckled. "Have you ever been married, Ms. Lerburg?"
[23:44] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Married? I can’t say that I have. Why?"
[23:47] <Yanmei> "I suppose I was just curious! We're not married either, you know. But we've come across people our age who have been. And others still who have been in pretty intense relationships even without the wedding certificate. Isaiah and me… we're not that unusual, right?"
[23:49] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "I wouldn’t say unusual. Uncommon, certainly. A lot of people in their first teenage relationships tend to break up pretty easily, but my parents met in high school and married in university, so it -does- happen."
[23:54] <Yanmei> "Really? A lot of romance seems to happen during university, I've noticed. My parents met then too, and the Colonel also met his current girlfriend then."
[23:54] <Sarah‘Lerburg> ["University is full of people planning for the future. And you’re a little more mature at university. Hopefully. But…" Twinkly eyes. "The colonel has a girlfriend?"]
[23:57] <Yanmei> "He hasn't mentioned her? Well~" Yanmei grinned. "They were going out a long time ago, when they were still in school. But they both lost a lot of personal things - loved ones too - during second impact, and broke up rather messily. They've been getting back together bit by bit, but they're pretty feisty to each other these days. Like, they argue a lot."
[23:57] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Unresolved sexual tension, do you think?"
[23:58] * Yanmei snapped her fingers. "That is the very best way to describe it."
[23:58] <Sarah`Lerburg> [Meanwhile, in the observation room, a deadly quiet hung in the air.-
[23:58] <Sarah`Lerburg> ["That little bitch. I am going to kick her ass so hard-"-
[23:59] <Sarah`Lerburg> ["Colonel…!"-
[00:01] <Sarah`Lerburg> ["I’ll show her. 'Unresolved sexual tension, derpa derp derp'. I'll show -her- unresolved sexual tension. Alexandre Fontaine is acceptable collateral…!"-
[00:02] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Sounds pretty exciting~ audiences love a bit of UST."
[00:03] <Yanmei> "What else would audiences like to know about, do you think?"
[00:03] <Sarah`Lerburg> "About the Colonel, or in general?"
[00:04] <Yanmei> "In general, I mean."
[00:05] <Sarah`Lerburg> "Well… I think they want to see their heroes do heroic things, but still be sympathetic. They want to see you people handling everyday problems. Have any examples?"
[00:06] <Yanmei> "Everyday problems? Like school? But that’s boring." Yanmei frowned, trying to think.
[00:07] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Not necessarily. If it were, people wouldn’t watch high school dramas." Said Sarah. "But let me put it like this. You're expected to climb into that war machine and fight aliens, right?"
[00:07] <Yanmei> "That's right."
[00:08] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "A lot of people, when they see that, go ’That's so cool!', but deep down they know that if they were in the same situation they'd be terrified. Any normal human being would be terrified- so I guess what they want to see are human reactions."
[00:14] <Yanmei> "Human," Yanmei murmured. "Well, it's hardly fun? Especially in the beginning. Before the first Angel even arrived, there was a lot of stuff to sort out."
[00:14] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Oh?"
[00:16] <Yanmei> "Learning combat. And… accelerated French lessons. Highly accelerated." Again, an exhausted edge caught her voice.
[00:17] * Sarah`Lerburg nods slowly. "But have you ever found yourself scared in battle?"
[00:19] <Yanmei> "Scared?" She winked. "For the sake of Paris, you have to burn through that stage quickly and recover your nerves. It’s not something that I dwell on a lot?"
[00:19] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "But you -have- been scared."
[00:20] <Yanmei> "Everyone’s scared at first."
[00:20] * Sarah‘Lerburg chuckled. "There’s no shame in being afraid, you know."
[00:22] * Yanmei smiled at her. "Like I said? It's not something I dwell on a lot. And it's something I got over pretty quickly, anyway."
[00:23] * Sarah‘Lerburg changed tack quickly. "What about the time Qaphsiel destroyed your Evangelion?"
[00:25] <Yanmei> "I passed out shortly after it happened. It’s not like I freaked out about it?"
[00:26] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "But surely the afteraffects must’ve lingered on you. Mentally, I mean."
[00:27] <Yanmei> "Nothing like that," Yanmei smiled. "Because it's dead, there's really nothing to worry about."
[00:28] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Yes. I guess that explains why no one suffered any psychological scarring from Second Impact."
[00:29] <Yanmei> "…" Yanmei had the good grace to look embarrassed. "That’s not what I mean…"
[00:29] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Then what do you mean?"
[00:30] <Yanmei> "I’m just… not afraid of that thing. That's all I meant by it."
[00:31] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "But the question I asked was that there had to be -some- effects. People aren’t going to accept what they see if you're depicted as walking away from it completely unscarred."
[00:39] <Yanmei> "…" Yanmei looked away. "For a while after, I had trouble with enduring high-intensity energy attacks. Especially the ones that burned. But I'm completely -over- that now."
[00:40] * Sarah‘Lerburg seemed a little encouraged. "What about nightmares?"
[00:41] <Yanmei> "Nightmares? Nothing vivid… If you want to come up with something for the movie, I guess you could?"
[00:42] <Sarah`Lerburg> "You can rely on it." Said Sarah. "One bit of advice?"
[00:42] <Yanmei> "Yes?"
[00:43] <Sarah`Lerburg> "It’s not enough to look impervious to the world. That just makes you look distant and inhuman. Instead, you should visibly show that you're affected, because that lets everyone see how strong you are by pushing through."
[00:45] <Yanmei> "I-I see." She blinked at her. "Does that mean you think I'm a little stronger after hearing about this?"
[00:47] * Sarah‘Lerburg chuckled. "That you admitted you suffered, but you’re still standing here before me, sane, not dead- and that you got back into your Eva and kept fighting? Absolutely."
[00:48] <Yanmei> "I see," she said again, and started to relax a bit. "Thank you for the advice, Ms. Lerburg."
[00:49] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "No worries. That said. Would you call yourself the bravest of the pilots?"
[00:50] * Yanmei laughed a little at that. "Something like that is pretty hard to rank? Hm… I’d say that distinction goes to your German pilot, actually~"
[00:51] * Sarah‘Lerburg chuckled. "Langley-Soryu is pretty incredible. But I -am- a little curious about the other pilot- Aline Blanc."
[00:52] <Yanmei> "Blanc? Blanc is… Blanc." She smiled politely. "What do you want to know?"
[00:53] <Sarah`Lerburg> "What do you think of her?"
[00:54] <Yanmei> "Intelligent, capable, one hell of a pilot. A little egotistical, though?"
[00:54] <Sarah`Lerburg> "A little egotistical?"
[00:56] <Yanmei> "She’s very assured of her own knowledge even in subjects when she's far from being an expert. Take… psychology, for example?"
[00:57] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Oh? Did she try to analyse you?"
[01:01] <Yanmei> "She did. Badly."
[01:02] * Sarah`Lerburg chuckled. "That tends to happen. Anything else?"
[01:03] <Yanmei> "Not especially? These days we try to keep our distance from each other. It’s a lot easier."
[01:03] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "That bad, huh?"
[01:04] <Yanmei> "Yeah," Yanmei chuckled. "It’s pretty bad."
[01:05] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Well. I hope things get a little better. But." She smiled. "I think we’re done today."
[01:06] <Yanmei> "Aw, I was enjoying myself, you know!" But Yanmei extended a hand. "Thank you for the conversation."
[01:07] <Sarah‘Lerburg> "Not a problem!" Handshake. "Thank you for all the information. I hope you go see the movie when it comes out!"
[01:07] <Yanmei> "Absolutely! I’m hoping NERV will get us opening passes~ It's the least they could do."
[01:08] * Sarah`Lerburg grinned. "So do I. Maybe you and Isaiah can make it a date."
[01:08] <Yanmei> "Even better!" Yanmei stood. "Thanks again! And good luck."
[01:09] <Sarah`Lerburg> "Same to you!"
[01:10] <Yanmei> And with that, a smiling Zhang Yanmei departed.
