Inara And Gregory Troubleshoot Stalker Of Dreams Issues

[14:35] <Minaplo> [The alien cry filled Inara's quarters yet again.-
[14:39] <Minaplo> [Alereb had been a reasonably good companion since the start of the mission. But three days into their journey back toward Earth, her behaviour had suddenly changed. She paced about restlessly for hours, ferreted into every crevice only to emerge looking somehow sour… A few times she bit Inara.-
[14:39] <Minaplo> [Once, Inara came home to find Alereb literally clinging to the roof, staring down at her with narrowed eyes.-
[14:40] <Minaplo> [The little gemstones above Alereb's eyes had gone a cloudy red…-
[14:40] <Minaplo> [… And then there was the 'meowing'. At all hours of the day and the night, the creepy echoey 'meow' sounding like a theremin note held a moment too long in a dank tunnel.-
[14:44] <Minaplo> [Now, Alereb sat huffily on Inara's bed, square in the middle, where she had dragged all of Inara's pillows together into a big hill- on which she perched. Every few seconds, she let out a loud spooky meow.]
[14:57] * Inara had dilligently recorded her roommate's odd behaviors in her notes at first, but they had long ago tipoed over the line between being fascinating and being annoying. Humming to herself to drown out the noise, she snapped on a pair of very large disposable medical gloves and approached the bed with a casual air. -
[14:59] <Inara> "Bet you're feeling sick. Let's have a quick look, huh?" And she reached for her alien cat friend.
[15:00] <Minaplo> [Alereb promptly latched onto Inara's finger with her sharp little teeth. It didn't really hurt Inara's extremely tough skin, but…]
[15:08] * Inara frowned, but she didn't draw back. She didn't want to fight Alereb, but if she was acting weirdly because she was injured, then this simply had to be done. Using her free, non-bitten hand, she tried to simply pet her.
[15:08] <Minaplo> [Alereb batted at the other hand with her paw, but she wasn't really strong enough to stop the petting.-
[15:09] <Minaplo> [Despite that her mouth was firmly grasped on Inara's hand, Alereb was still able to let out her meows.-
[15:09] <Minaplo> [Then… The doorbell rang.]
[15:18] <Inara> A doorbell was not going to make her cat calm down. She tried to continue petting her for a moment longer. "Look, I don't want to sedate you, but I will if I must. Just relax!"
[15:18] <Minaplo> ["Urrrrrr."]
[15:21] <Inara> She stopped petting and instead tried to scoop up Alereb, walking over to the door. "Is this important?" she called out. "Because if it isn't, I'm not opening up!"
[15:22] <Minaplo> [Alereb thrashed about wildly-
[15:22] <Minaplo> ["It's me, Lieutenant Gregory." Came a voice through the door comms. "I was hoping to have a talk, but if now's not a good time…"-
[15:22] <Minaplo> [… Oddly, Alereb suddenly stilled completely.]
[15:28] <Inara> "…" Inara peered down. Then she peered at the door. Then she peered down again. Door. -
[15:29] <Inara> "Wait!" She thumbed the little button next to the door to open it.
[15:36] <Minaplo> [And standing in the doorway- craning her head up to look at Inara- was Lieutenant Gregory. "Good evening, Doctor…"]
[15:37] <Inara> "Ahh, Lieutenant. How can I help you? Do you have the flu?"
[15:38] <Minaplo> ["Er, no. I just- I'm off duty, and I wondered if maybe you'd like to hang out?"]
[15:41] <Inara> "Really?" Inara tilted her head, puzzled. "We can hang out, if you don't mind my hands being full." She glanced down at Alereb pointedly.
[15:42] <Minaplo> ["Oh, hey, a kitty." Said Gregory.-
[15:42] <Minaplo> ["Ooh, wait, no, isn't that a Stalker-of-Dreams?"]
[15:43] <Inara> "So you know them." Inara beamed. "Her name is Al. Short for Alereb."
[15:44] <Minaplo> ["Hey there, Alereb." Said Gregory, bending over a little to wave a finger in her direction. "Ooh, those are some cloudy mood-beads."]
[15:46] <Inara> "I'm investigating that, along with many other things, like why she wants to drive our nice neighbors insane with her meowing all day and night."
[15:46] <Minaplo> ["Oh, I know why."]
[15:46] <Inara> "Huh?"
[15:47] <Minaplo> ["Yeah, I have one back home on Earth."]
[15:50] <Inara> "Then you know how to make it stop!"
[15:51] <Minaplo> ["Sure. You gonna let me in?"]
[16:02] * Inara stepped aside. Hers was bigger than a standard room, and it contained only slightly more than its austere original furnishings: an immortal-sized bed for one, and a desk littered with common cat toys. A nice clean litter box rested in one corner of the room, while a food and water dish rested in another. Books and clothes had been strewn about haphazardly on the floor and the bed
[16:02] * Inara as well.
[16:03] <Minaplo> [Gregory took a step inside. "Nice setup."-
[16:03] <Minaplo> ["Mind if I sit?"]
[16:03] <Inara> "Please."
[16:15] <Minaplo> [And so she sat.-
[16:16] <Minaplo> ["Alereb's trying to drive you out."]
[16:16] <Inara> "Ridiculous. She must know that she can't possibly win!"
[16:17] <Minaplo> [Gregory smirked.-
[16:18] <Minaplo> ["She's not doing it because she hates you. She wants you to go hang out with people, s'all."]
[16:21] <Inara> A blank stare. "Why?"
[16:23] <Minaplo> ["Think about the Stalkers-of-Dreams. They're from the Defector homeworld. They're used to belonging to households with dozens of people…"]
[16:26] <Inara> "Hmm." Inara tried to juggle between holding Alereb and reaching for an audio recorder left on the floor. "So what do you suggest? Should I bring her to work with me?"
[16:29] <Minaplo> ["I think you should take her for walks. Also, let her roam the ship whenever she wants- she's probably bored of your dreams."]
[16:41] <Inara> "Sounds reasonable. Do you want to go out right now?" She held Alereb up as she spoke to her. Was she still being bitten?
[17:12] <Minaplo> [No, Alereb had let her go.-
[17:13] <Minaplo> [Alereb peered at Inara. The mood-beads turned a bright purple for a moment before reverting back to cloudy red. Inara knew enough to know that this was, basically, 'yes'.]
[17:15] <Inara> So Inara went back over to the door and opened it again. "Out you go. When you're ready to come back, just call or scratch and I'll answer." She set her down on the ground gently.
[17:16] <Minaplo> [Alereb stared up at her- then padded away.]
[17:17] <Inara> "Ah… they grow up so quickly," she said mournfully, watching her walk off into the sunset.
[17:22] <Minaplo> ["Haha."-
[17:22] <Minaplo> ["She been causing you trouble then?"]
[17:25] <Inara> "Just noisy. And bitey. Fortunately, it's only been for the past few days."
[17:26] <Minaplo> ["Heh. Yeah, I'm surprised you haven't gotten any complaints yet."-
[17:26] <Minaplo> ["Or maybe not that surprised."]
[17:38] * Inara nodded sagely. "It's possible that the people staying in the adjacent units weren't home at all for the last 72 hours."
[17:39] <Minaplo> ["Or they don't wanna tell an Immortal to cut out her pet's crying."]
[14:21] <Inara> "Pfft. Silly. It's not like I can attack them outright."
[14:22] <Minaplo> ["True enough." Said Gregory. "Then again, these walls are pretty dense. Maybe they didn't hear you."]
[14:23] <Inara> "We could just walk over and ask them if they did or didn't."
[14:23] <Minaplo> ["Do you want to?"]
[14:25] * Inara paused for a few moments. Then she nodded.
[14:26] <Minaplo> ["Alright, let's do it." Said Gregory, leaping out of her seat.]
[14:30] <Inara> So Inara led the way, heading outside of her quarters to the unit located right next door. She pressed the doorbell.
[14:31] <Minaplo> [After a few moments, the door opened.-
[14:32] <Minaplo> [Standing in the doorway was a Warfriend, half a metre taller even than Inara. The Warfriend peered down at the both of them, then clucked its mandibles thoughtfully. "Yes-yes?"]
[14:37] * Inara shot Gregory a brief but smug look. No way this guy would be intimidated by an Immortal. "Hello, Neighbor! I live next door to you. Lately my Stalker has been making lots of noise, pretty much all the time, so I'm checking to see if it's been bothering the people who live around me."
[14:38] <Minaplo> ["I hear the Stalker-cries." Said the Warfriend, shifting restlessly on one of its many legs. "Very soothing throat-music, puts me to sleep."]
[14:43] <Inara> "Interesting. I'm glad it wasn't upsetting. You may, however, be hearing a lot less of it from now on. I think I've discovered the reason why she was acting that way."
[14:44] <Minaplo> ["She wants you to make friends?"]
[14:45] <Inara> "Wait. How did you know that?"
[14:47] <Minaplo> [The Warfriend chittered rapidly. "Common knowledge!"]
[14:48] <Inara> "Hmph. It's starting to look like I'm the only one who didn't know…"
[14:50] <Minaplo> ["Maybe you should have grown-grown with a Stalker when you were little, then you would know." The Warfriend kept chittering. "Defectors don't tell you Twiceborn everything about everything! They want you to learn by yourself."]
[14:53] <Inara> "Well, I can't change the past, but I can learn now. I'm also taking many notes." She waved her audio recorder around a bit. "Anyway, thanks for the chat, Neighbor! We'll shove off now."
[14:55] <Minaplo> ["Wait. Do you not want tea?"]
[14:58] <Inara> "Eh?" She glanced at Gregory, not quite able to keep the surprise off her face.
[14:58] <Minaplo> [Gregory gave her a 'sure-why-not' shrug.]
[15:01] * Inara scratched the back of her head. "All right. Tea it is."
[15:02] <Minaplo> [The Warfriend disappeared for a moment, then returned carrying a large half-crate filled with boxes of tea. "Here. It is tea that I made myself-self. First box is gift, future boxes will cost you."-
[15:03] <Minaplo> [The Warfriend hunched over slightly and spoke in a scratchy whisper. "You will buy future boxes, it is that good tea."]
[15:09] <Inara> "So that's your game," Inara grinned. "All right. We'll try your very good tea later today."
[15:22] <Minaplo> ["Enjoy-joy."-
[15:23] <Minaplo> [With that, the door shut.]
[15:25] <Inara> "That guy guaranteed that I would be back for more tea," mused Inara as she started away. "Think there's a chance an addictive substance is mixed in with it?"
[15:26] <Minaplo> ["The most addictive substance in the universe is great taste." Said Gregory. "That said, you get to drink it first so you can tank the triple-pure cocaine or whatever."]
[15:30] <Inara> "Sure. S'not like I mind." She peered down at the box in her arms curiously.
[15:31] <Minaplo> ["Now I wonder who your other neighbour is. Maybe he'll be a Warfriend selling saucers."]
[15:34] <Inara> "If you wanna be elegant, then you need to scarf down cake with your tea, not saucers," said Inara knowingly. "Anyway, c'mon, let's go see." -
[15:36] <Inara> She walked over to the unit on the other side of her quarters, and hit the doorbell just as before.
[15:37] <Minaplo> [Gregory squinted into the air for a moment, but let the comment slide.-
[15:41] <Minaplo> [A moment later, the door opened, revealing a short, grumpy-faced young man wearing a blue nightgown. He stared up at her. "Yes?"]
[15:45] <Inara> "Hello, Neighbor! I live right next door to you."
[15:46] <Minaplo> ["Are you the one making that annoying sound?"]
[15:47] <Inara> "That would be my roommate, a very healthy and energetic Stalker-of-Dreams. Were you bothered by it much?"
[15:49] * Disconnected
[15:49] * Retrieving #frontierwar modes…
[15:49] * Attempting to rejoin channel #frontierwar
[15:49] * Rejoined channel #frontierwar
[15:50] <GONEplo> ["Yes."]
[15:51] <Inara> "I see. That's unfortunate. But she's stopped for now, because we were able to determine the cause of her meowing."
[15:51] <Minaplo> ["Good."]
[15:53] * Inara beamed. "As a peace-offering, I'll make you a cup of suspicious tea later on today and deliver it to your door. Do you prefer sugar and milk in yours?"
[15:55] <Minaplo> ["Ha, don't even try. Downing three cups of that stuff a day is the only way I manage to sleep through your dumb cat's bleating."]
[16:03] <Inara> "She's not dumb," said Inara matter-of-factly. "And if it was bothering you so much, why didn't you say something to me?"
[16:08] <Minaplo> ["Because… Because I dunno, that's why." Muttered the man. "Maybe I hoped the problem would go away on its own if I waited long enough!"]
[16:13] <Inara> "That's not acceptable! What if she had kept meowing forever? Even with supplements, your health and your career might have suffered from that."
[16:14] <Minaplo> ["W-Well, er. I mean, eventually I might've asked to move quarters…?"]
[16:17] * Inara frowned sternly at him. "That should be a last resort. I'm not going to beat you up just because you complain to me about something I'm doing. You'll find that's the case with most people around here, because we are professionals. So next time, just say something."
[16:38] <Minaplo> ["F-Fine."]
[16:41] <Inara> "Good man." Inara nodded at him. "Now finish your nap. We're leaving now."
[16:41] <Minaplo> ["…"-
[16:41] <Minaplo> [The door closed.-
[16:41] <Minaplo> ["Making friends." Said Gregory brightly.]
[16:44] <Inara> "If you say so. That one needs a good thump on the head. Or maybe just more sleep."
[16:45] <Minaplo> ["Pfffft."-
[16:45] <Minaplo> ["You wanna try that tea?"]
[16:46] <Inara> "Sounds fine to me." Inara turned again, this time heading back to her room.
[16:46] <Minaplo> […-
[16:46] <Minaplo> [The tea was a pale purple colour, and had a flowery aroma to it.-
[16:47] <Minaplo> [Gregory poured two cups of it, and handed one to Inara. "So how'd you get your hands on a Stalker anyway?"]
[16:52] <Inara> "Parting gift from an old teacher when I left my last base on Titan." Inara's cup was more of a bowl than a tea cup, but it suited her more than a standard-sized one.
[16:53] <Minaplo> ["Really?"]
[16:57] <Inara> "Really. I don't know where he bought her, though. Well, we had all sorts of creatures turn up there for one reason or another."
[16:58] <Minaplo> ["Is that a thing Immortals do?"]
[17:00] <Inara> "It's a thing we did. I don't know about the other immortal clans, but maybe they did too."
[17:02] <Minaplo> ["How come?"]
[17:03] <Inara> "To study them. And in some cases, for combat training."
[17:07] <Minaplo> ["Tell me an interesting one, then."]
[17:26] <Inara> "One of our strongest animal champions resembled a nine-horned rhino with scales like armor and the ability to discharge electricity through said scales at will. It was carnivous and developed a taste for revenge and human flesh after a number of battles with our cadets." Inara took a sip from her mug. "One night it escaped. Its rampage took out 6 unsuspecting Immortals before we were able
[17:26] <Inara> to bait it into a pit trap and sedate it with drugged food."
[17:28] <Minaplo> ["W… What? Are you for real?!"]
[17:33] <Inara> "Of course. Don't worry. Our casualties from that day were able to revive and heal, so it all worked out to a happy ending!"
[17:33] <Minaplo> ["How hard did it hit you that it punched through your AT Field?!"]
[17:41] <Inara> "Hard. Mainly while charging. Have you ever been struck by an electrified armored vehicle while your back was turned?"
[17:41] <Minaplo> ["No…"]
[17:42] <Inara> "Well, it will probably at least stun you."
[17:43] <Minaplo> ["Shit."-
[17:43] <Minaplo> ["So what did you do with it after that?"]
[17:51] <Inara> "Shipped it off-planet to a special facility, last I heard. According to legend, it escaped during its transport, ate the crew, and somehow survived to this day aboard the empty ship by eating subsequent rescue teams and curious explorers~" Inara waggled her fingers in a "spooky" manner.
[17:52] <Minaplo> ["Okay, that's bullshit."]
[17:52] <Inara> "Yeah, probably. Freaks out some of the new recruits though."
[17:53] <Minaplo> ["Did it freak you out?"]
[17:55] <Inara> "Of course not. It's way too stupid to do that."
[17:56] <Minaplo> ["Bet it did."]
[18:01] <Inara> "And maybe it freaked you out, and now you're trying to draw attention away from that."
[18:06] <Minaplo> ["Sorry, I'm not gonna buy that somewhere out there is a space hulk owned by a nine-horned man-eating thunder rhino. That's dumb."]
[14:08] * Inara shook her head sorrowfully. "So careless. Just don't answer any distress calls for a while…"
[14:09] <Minaplo> ["I will, and I'll make you take point."]
[14:09] <Inara> "That's just mean."
[14:09] <Minaplo> ["Aren't you the expert?"]
[14:10] <Inara> "True." She rubbed her chin. "And speaking of animal experts… tell me about this Stalker of yours."
[14:12] <Minaplo> ["Heh, okay."-
[14:13] <Minaplo> ["When I was a kid, I had real problems sleeping. Nightmares, night terrors, all that sort of thing. So my mum bought me Gemima, 'cuz she was told that a Stalker could help with that stuff- and she did!"]
[14:18] <Inara> "Simple enough. I see you're okay now, even though she's not with you."
[14:18] <Minaplo> ["Yeah, I grew out of it." Said Gregory. "But, owning a Stalker, man, not like owning a normal cat…"]
[14:19] <Inara> "Ahh. Have some stories?"
[14:19] <Minaplo> ["Sure do. You haven't had the chance to put Al near a terrestrial cat, huh?"]
[14:19] <Inara> "No. I haven't had her long, I'm afraid."
[14:21] <Minaplo> ["Yeah, well. I dunno if it's how they are, but Gemima didn't get on with terrestrial cats at all."]
[14:22] <Inara> "They would fight?"
[14:28] <Minaplo> ["Yeah. So, Stalkers can hunt mice and stuff, but they aren't as fast as earth cats. But something about how the Stalker smells sets cats right off, so cats really gun for them."-
[14:29] <Minaplo> ["What my mum told me was, Gemima used to get attacked by other cats, and she'd run back here… But then? She'd go stalking into the cat's mind when it was asleep and screw it up."-
[14:29] <Minaplo> ["Eventually she drove most of the cats out of the neighbourhood, unless they were housecats."]
[14:33] <Inara> "Clever! And also brutal. It's a good thing we don't have any terrestrial cats on board."
[14:37] <Minaplo> ["…"]
[14:40] <Inara> "You're being distressingly quiet. What's wrong?"
[14:40] <Minaplo> ["H-Haha. Not to alarm you, but we totally have a terrestrial cat on board. It belongs to the Shadowfires."]
[14:42] <Inara> "Oh." Inara frowned thoughtfully. "It's confined to their quarters, right?"
[14:42] <Minaplo> ["H-heh."-
[14:42] <Minaplo> ["no"]
[14:47] <Inara> "Oh." said Inara again. More frowning. "Unfortunate. I don't want to cut Alereb's first day out short by tracking her down."
[14:48] <Minaplo> ["Yeah, but, the Shadowfires are gonna be mad if Alereb starts torturing their cat!"]
[14:50] <Inara> "I know that. We need to take measures to keep the two apart before a conflict starts."
[14:53] <Minaplo> ["Maybe we can track her, but not catch her, just… Observe. From a distance."]
[14:57] <Inara> "We could be out observing her all day. Are you okay with that?"
[15:00] <Minaplo> ["Sure."]
[15:06] <Inara> "All right." Inara set her cup aside and stood up. "Let's call our resident Evangelion for help with her current location."
[15:12] <Minaplo> ["What's the matter?" Asked Idris, sitting on a third seat as though he had always been there.]
[15:14] * Inara took this in stride. "Help me locate my Stalker. We need to stop her from getting into fights!"
[15:15] <Minaplo> ["Your Stalker? You mean that psychic pet of yours that keeps trying to tap into my mind?"]
[15:16] <Inara> "She's what?"
[15:18] <Minaplo> ["Every twelve hours or so. She'll never actually succeed, inshallah, but she tries. I don't know why."]
[15:19] <Inara> "It's probably because she's bored," Inara grumbles. "Or curious. Please don't hold it against her. I'll have a talk with her."
[15:21] <Minaplo> ["Please do."-
[15:21] <Minaplo> ["… And now you say she's getting into fights?"]
[15:22] <Inara> "We want to prevent her from starting one with the Shadowfires' cat."
[15:22] <Minaplo> ["Why do you have such a mean pet?"]
[15:23] <Inara> "She's not mean all the time!"
[15:24] <Minaplo> ["Neither is a murderer."]
[15:27] <Inara> "If you've had psychic contact with her, then you already know that she isn't that bad."
[15:28] <Minaplo> ["No, I suppose not."-
[15:28] <Minaplo> [Idris paused.-
[15:29] <Minaplo> ["Ooh, this might be a problem. She's currently stalking someone's dreams right now."]
[15:29] <Inara> "Oh no. Whose?"
[15:29] <Minaplo> ["Not telling." Said Idris.-
[15:30] <Minaplo> ["Stalking by itself isn't harmful, I don't think." Said Gregory. "But will that make retrieving her difficult?"-
[15:30] <Minaplo> ["It can." Said Idris. "If I try to pull her out, she will at the very least be greatly cross with myself."]
[15:31] <Inara> "How long does it usually take her to do these things? We could simply move to her location while she's stationary and wait her out."
[15:31] <Minaplo> ["Uh… Up to an hour, sometimes longer." Said Gregory.]
[15:32] * Inara wrote that down in a notebook. "Where can we find her?"
[15:44] <Minaplo> ["Deck eleven, residential B, near room-block 10."]
[15:47] <Inara> "Thank you. Let's go, Lieutenant Gregory."
[15:49] <Minaplo> […-
[15:51] <Minaplo> [They would find Alereb curled up outside someone's quarters. Although apparently asleep, the gemstone on her forehead shimmered with a brilliant array of colours.]
[15:55] <Inara> "She definitely looks happy," Inara muttered, standing over her. "Hey. If we do follow and observe her, do you think she'll notice?"
[15:57] <Minaplo> ["I mean… She'd notice me, but you, y'know…"]
[15:58] <Inara> "I dunno. She's pretty psychic. Sneaking might not work."
[15:59] <Minaplo> ["Even if you do your platypus thing?"]
[16:01] <Inara> "I've never done it against her, you know. Who can tell?"
[16:01] <Minaplo> ["I thought that would've been the first thing you tested!"]
[16:05] <Inara> "Was too busy doing basic observations and figuring out her likes and dislikes. I'm finding that owning a pet is a lot more complicated than just studying them."
[16:07] <Minaplo> ["If it were me, I'd be testing my stealthy thing on everyone."]
[16:10] <Inara> "All you have to do to 'test' it is to walk into a crowded room. Like the mess hall or a briefing room. That sort of stuff happens naturally, so you don't need to go out of your way to do it."
[16:11] <Minaplo> ["Hmmm."]
[16:15] <Inara> "There's one person who's never phased by it, though. The ship's top medical staff member, the medibot." Inara beamed proudly.
[16:15] <Minaplo> ["W-Well, that doesn't count."]
[16:23] <Inara> "Sure it does. Why wouldn't it?"
[16:25] <Minaplo> ["It's a robot."]
[16:27] <Inara> "A robot with an excellent sense of perception and loads of common sense!"
[16:30] <Minaplo> [Alereb stirred.]
[16:36] <Inara> "She's waking up. If we want to test my 'platypus thing' then we should come up with a plan. Maybe if we hide in different spots and see who she reacts to…"
[16:51] <Minaplo> ["Got it. Where should I go?"]
[17:02] <Inara> "Hide around the corner over there." She pointed to the far end of the hallway. "And I'll hide over here." She pointed to the turn on the opposite end of the hallway.
[17:07] <Minaplo> [Gregory quickly hid.-
[17:08] <Minaplo> [After a minute or so, Alereb's gem began to calm, settling into a pleasing turquoise colour. Then she yawned, stood up- then, eyeing Gregory's spot suspiciously- turned and began to walk towards Inara's spot.]
[17:11] <Inara> Ah ha. Inara silently crouched down, preparing to catch Alereb when she turned the corner.
[17:15] <Minaplo> [Alereb paused, looked around, tilted her head- then just kept walking. Walking… Right past the corner.]
[17:18] <Inara> And Inara… ambushed her! She quickly stepped forward and scooped her up.
[17:18] <Minaplo> ["!!!!!!"-
[17:19] <Minaplo> [Alereb went wild for a second with scratching and bites, but then froze and stared up at Inara. She mewed quietly.]
[17:20] <Inara> "Sorry about that. We had to find you and give you a warning, okay? Gregory, come on out."
[17:20] <Minaplo> ["Whew. No harm done, then." Said Gregory, quickly hurrying over. "Hey, you."-
[17:20] <Minaplo> [She petted Alereb. Alereb scowled at the both of them, then tucked her head in against her chest.]
[17:22] <Inara> "Hey, no sulking. Here's the deal. There's another cat on board this ship. You need to avoid him, because there's a chance he'll attack you."
[17:23] <Minaplo> [Alereb's gem flashed red for a moment.]
[17:29] <Inara> "I mean it. Don't start fights with him, and don't pick on him by messing up his mind."
[17:30] <Minaplo> [Alereb began firmly headbutting Inara's chest.]
[17:32] * Inara set the psychic cat down. -
[17:33] <Inara> "There's more we have to discuss when you get home. You've been trying to get into that powerful guy's mind, haven't you?"
[17:34] <Minaplo> [Alereb rolled onto her back defiantly.]
[17:39] <Inara> "If you're going to stalk dreams, then just do it to regular people, ok? You're starting to bother him."
[17:40] <Minaplo> [Alereb mewed.]
[17:41] <Inara> "We're clear on all this, right? If we're not, then I'm taking you home and putting an end to your little adventure today."
[17:44] <Minaplo> [Alereb mewed, but quieter.]
[17:45] <Inara> "Ok. Good girl." Inara patted her gently on her head. "Go play and have fun. Just remember what we talked about."
[17:48] <Minaplo> [A mew- and then Alereb ran off.-
[17:49] <Minaplo> ["Aww, wasn't that cute." Said Gregory.]
[17:50] <Inara> "I feel like a parent now," Inara grumbled.
[17:51] <Minaplo> ["You are. Of a big psychic furry baby."]
[17:57] <Inara> "Yeah, yeah. And now that we've finished stalking my stalker, how do you feel about having some more of that weird tea?"
[18:00] <Minaplo> ["Sure."]
[18:08] <Inara> And so Inara led the way back to her room. What was Alereb even worried about? This making friends thing was easy!
