The Good Doctor

SEELE's member for Japan and an accomplished scientist, engineer and metaphysical biologist in his own right, Doctor Ikari Yutada is the father of Ikari Yui and thus the grandfather of Ikari Shinji, Ikari Rei and the Ayanami sisters. He is also a man of great importance, as there is a strong possibility he worked on or had some knowledge of the operations of the Eternity Drive.

Unfortunately, Dr. Ikari was trapped in Japan when the war began and has gone into hiding. Both Japanese security forces and UN agents have spent a great deal of effort ever since, trying to find him and use him for their own ends.

Naturally, retrieving the good doctor is in the Federation's best interests. He had some dealings with Vercingetorix- the 'old' one- and so naturally, Vercingetorix has been quick to request a mission to retrieve him.

However, this will be a sensitive mission. Evading enemy UN agents is one thing, but staying away from Japanese security forces is another; if the team is discovered by either side, then the repercussions could be massive.

- Raphael Stealth: Explore Tunnel Success (0 DoS). Tunnel branches toward docks and also Shinjuku; Raphael encounters yakuza smugglers
- Shinji Stealth: Shadow Smugglers Success (1 DoS). SHinji follows them back down the tunnel. They emerge into the back of a dockside warehouse; Shinji can tell the sun is setting, too. Here, the yakuza(?) meet up with some folks, and have a short convo; Shinji's angelic senses can detect that the ones we've been tracing work for Matsudaira Taro, and is intending to make a huge delivery to Kikkawa Katsuo tomorrow night; Katsuo's apparently "Up to somethin' huge" but they don't elaborate. Matsudaira's lot load crates onto the buggy, and begin driving back; Shinji relievedly notes that the crates only contains weapons, not people, but the weapons include railguns and grenade launchers as well as, in its own separate hold, a bolter. The people at the dock then disperse and begin just doing dockhand work.

- Raphael Assist San -
- Shinji Stealth: Infiltrate Little Korea repair shop and search records Success (7 DoS). Locates records, notes that they should have gone out of business, so they must be taking money they aren't recording
Turn 12 Surov Awareness: Look at Gehirn apartment Success (5 DoS). Building is occupied; possible Yakuza detected
- San Inquiry: Converse with Little Korea receptionist Success (4 DoS): San learns that Dr. Ikari did have his chair repaired here when he fled. The receptionist does not become suspicious
- Raphael Awareness: Look at Gehirn apartment Failure (2 DoF). Nothing detected
- Shinji Scrutiny: Consult maps for nearby areas of interest Success (8 DoS): Shinji notes a few locations of interest nearby: A Minifront supply port (a building which holds an umbilical and Eva weaponry) which has direct access to the Minifront but also to the underground secret tunnels; an Angel attack shelter which has never been used because Tokyo has never been attacked; a warehouse that no one realises is a Recessive building; and what appears to be an apartment complex that was intended to secretly be a Gehirn dormitory, but has since been abandoned and you don't know what it's being used for now.
Turn 13 Surov Tech Use: PSB monitor chatter Success (6 DoS): Learns PSB might be attempting an action on Yakuza in Ikebukuro
- San Inquiry: Talk with goons outside dorm building to see if they're Yakuza Success (4 DoS): She definitely manages to confirm that they're yakuza; they admit as much and also offer to show her around inside. Also, Angelic Senses reveals that yeah, they're armed, some with good weapons, railguns and the like; but not all of them. She manages to caaaarefully bait out that these are not with Kikkawa or Matsudaira, but are low-level grunts of the Inagawa-kai, an old, large and very, very dangerous group that deal in prostitution, drug smuggling and illegal gambling… They're Kikkawa's rivals, and it shows because the guys are boasting that they took this place from Kikkawa last week.
- Raphael Assist Surov -
- Shinji Float Raphael+Surov to roof of Gehirn dorm Success.
Turn 14 Surov Tech Use: Access abandoned computer Success (5 DoS). Recording of Fuyutsuki warning of UN infiltration of the PSB; Operation Rabbit is going to be a trap and Dr. Ikari is trying to stop it by involving the Yakuza somehow. Elite Japanese force is involved.
- San Scrutiny: Check room for details Success (4 DoS). San notices that the welding, she thinks, is not a recent job (although she's no expert), so whoever prepped this room did so awhile back. Also, she notices some long strands of black hair on the floor; she takes it because it could be EVIDENCE. Also, she notices what appears to be food crumbs. A quick check suggests that they're fairly recent; a week or two away maybe.
- Raphael Stealth: Infiltrate Gehirn dorms Success (5 DoS).
- Shinji Explores Gendo's old room He finds a small dormitory. There's two bunk-beds within (for a total of 4 beds)… And a cot. The cot has a little mobile hanging over it featuring musical notes in bright colours. He searches around and finds a wardrobe; the look of it suggests things were abandoned in a hurry, and some clothes are still here, fading and rotting away. Clothes belonging to his father and to his mother. He searches around a little and finds an old diary of Gendo's. He flicks through it and quickly realises the diary begins a month before his birth, and an overwhelming number of the pages are focused on Shinji, and the tone is warm and loving. There are pictures of baby Shinji being held by his father, who looks proud. Shinji is overcome with grief.
Turn 15 Surov Security: Hack police database to find info on Kikkawa Success (7 DoS). Finds records of all suspected Kikkawa-kai clubs and suspicions leading to the biggest club, the Pink Oyster
- San Charm: Convince Kikkawa that Shinji is really Shinji Success (5 DoS). Kikkawa immediately begins going "The Federation wouldn't send a fucking Eva pilot out like this", because he's -smart- but not -genre savvy-. San instantly steps up and points out that Kikkawa's smart enough to realise that if he really -is- Shinji, then that means the Federation couldn't -stop him-, so no one else is. She also says that Kikkawa is famous for being able to appraise people accurately at a look, so if he really looks at Shinji properly, and weighs him up, then Kikkawa would be able to tell. Finally she says that Kikkawa's too prudent, even if Shinji -were- a fake, to hide the information from Yutada… And Kikkawa's clever enough to be taping all of this so Yutada can say 'yes' or 'no.' Having been subtly but fully buttered up by San's apparently logical but gently charming approach, he admits that they make a good point and he will, for now, assume Shinji is who he says he is.
- Raphael Awareness: Size up guards Success (8 DoS). Guards very well sized up
- Shinji Intimidate: Coerce his way in to see Kikkawa at the Pink Oyster Success (3 DoS). Shinji walks into the club, his shoulders back, his head high. He is -ice cold- and he looks and feels like Gendo at his best, especially since Shinji grew up at some point and is now pushing 5'11, meaning he stands out a hell of a lot. The club is… Seedy. It is luridly lit and a mix of gambling and the negotiation side of sex services is taking place as scantily clad girls (and some boys) ply potential clients with drinks and compliments. Parts of the club start to fall silent as Shinji passes, and some heavies sense trouble and begin to float towards him. He ignores them- San at his side- and goes up to the tallest heavy he can find, who is next to the bar… Then promptly turns, ignores him, turns to the bartender and orders a drink. As the bartender scrambles to get it, Shinji takes it, drains it and goes "Tell Kikkawa he has something he needs to hear. If he's not here, tell him anyway. I don't care how you do it." The Heavy scowls, leans in over Shinji, who finally shoots the man a chilling look. The Heavy hesitates, takes a few steps back, then vanishes inside the backstage. A few minutes later the Heavy emerges, awkwardly telling Shinji "The boss will see you. Go in ahead." … Shinji, San and (although they don't know it) Raphael are escorted into the behind of the club. Raphael quickly realises the place is filled with discrete backdoor exits, and it's obvious that despite everything, no sex happens on the premises- instead there's easy access to nearby hotels, some squalid, some splendid, for the act itself to happen, which helps keeps everything a little more grey inside the Oyster. They're brought to a sumptuous office- a desk made of beautiful dark red tropical wood, thick glorious rugs of dragons, tigers and phoenixes, wall banners, cabinets full of liquor and jewelry, couches of leather and velvet… But no Kikkawa. Not in person. Kikkawa isn't dumb enough to do that; he's speaking to you through a videoconference television. He appears to be in a limousine at the moment. Kikkawa is a thin, rake-tall man, with overly long arms and a narrow pinched face terminating in an overly long and pointed nose. He has tight black hair cropped close to the scalp and fine teeth. He has the ascetic look of a man who always appears ill, but in reality he is in perfect health. When he speaks he speaks in gentle, polite tones that bear no overt aggression, nothing except curiosity. "My men told me you forced your way in with nothing but dagger-looks and rock-like posture, just to speak to me. I'm honoured to meet such a very brave individual. You must have something very important to tell me." Shinji repeats the number Yutada used to call Kikkawa. Kikkawa doesn't look surprised or shocked; he says "What is that supposed to mean to me?" To which Shinji says "It's the number Yutada's been calling you on." Instantly Kikkawa's expression darkens. He says "That is not a careful answer… What is the meaning of this?" … Shinji straight up tells Kikkawa that he is Shinji Ikari, Yui's son, who is Yutada's daughter, and that he's here to find his grandfather and take him to safety. Shinji doesn't care about anything that gets in his way, but he says it in a careless tone instead of a tryhard tone, so it sounds pretty manly. (Cut to San's action)
- SPECIAL SUMMARY Acrobatics (Raphael): Failure+Driven, Flux success After San persuades Kikkawa, Shinji lays out their general actions of today and says he wants to help but only after a face-to-face meeting. Kikkawa says he will arrange a meeting tomorrow, and says that in Ueno Park, some of the cherry blossoms are sporadically blooming; if your story checks out, he will meet you there with Yutada. If the story does not then you will at least have lovely scenery in which to waste your time. San gives him the number to her burner phone, then they leave. Raphael hangs back to eavesdrop. Once they leave, the guards turn to Kikkawa for orders. Kikkawa basically tells them to double security and also, close up early tonight; he doesn't feel like tonight is going to be a good one. After that, Kikkawa closes up. The guards loiter around for awhile, and begin chatting about what just happened. Many of their comments are admiring, either talking about how manly Shinji was or the many things they'd do to San if given the chance. THe guards nearly shut the door on Raphael, but luckily a guard jams their foot in the door and Raphael is able to barely sneak out.

Turn 36b Shinji Awareness: Search trucks w/Senses to find cargo, then reveal self Success (2 DoS). Cargo found, reveals self.
- Raphael Command: Spring trap Success (7 DoS). The trap springs! The yakuza emerge from every crevice, crack and hole, all of them bearing some kind of weapon. The railgunners begin firing over the heads of the convoy, hitting little although a few stray shots do hit some trucks and cars. The maser-team opens fire and a dozen agents go down, although they don't have much effect on the ones with power armour. The agents are in disarray! Many of them try to bundle for cover but there's not a lot of places to go. Some return fire but the effect is limited. There's still probably about 65 agents left, of whom 15-20 are at present returning fire or putting up some trouble.
Turn 37b Shinji Intimidate: Draw attention and punch power armoured agents Success (7 DoS). Shinji draws fire and is attacked.
- Raphael Command: Set Yakuza to raid convoys Success (3 DoS). The directed yakuza teams begin heading for three of the cargo trucks with good lines. The support fire continues, and another 8 or so agents drop from maser shots. Many of them remained pinned, but some are starting to rally; a few of them engage the yakuza going for the trucks. Sniper fire drops a few, but about 5 or 6 of the agents make it. Two of the trucks are taken without trouble (and the yakuza are now in the process of dragging the cargo out), but the third truck team is currently embroiled in hand-to-hand combat with the agents. Guns are now being used as bludgeons and a few yakuza have dropped their rifles in exchange for knives or short swords.
Turn 38b Shinji Beastly Form/Heroic Assault on Battlesuit Brother Success. 25 damage, Brother's right leg removed
- Raphael Command: Pull melee Yakuza and cargo Yakuza back, weaken power armour Agents, and snipe Success (1 DoS). Raphael manages to impose some order on the melee yakuza, and they begin to pull back, but some are too hurt to get away and a few of the PSB agents are heavily injured as well. Some of the maser yakuza swap to surface focus and they begin having an effect on the armoured agents, enough for the snipers to take down 4 of them soon after. The truck Yakuza pull back with their cargo in tow.
Turn 39b Shinji Cross Blast on Brother formation Success. 17 damage
- Raphael Command: Begin retreat orderly, maintain fire Success (4 DoS). The Yakuza begin their retreat, cover fire being adeptly maintained to try to prevent the PSB rallying.
