The Spanish Crisis

The rapid advance of UN forces throughout North Africa has sent a frission of panic throughout Spanish society. Spain's people know only too well that the UN invasion's objective is France- and Spain is a stepping stone on the path to that objective- and the Spanish know they'll probably be stepped on all too soon.

The tension and the threat have stoked and awakened deep-seated rifts in Spanish society that deeply resent France and its control over Spain and Spanish affairs. With riots breaking out across the country, French gendarmes and army units are increasingly being called to restore order and protect French businesses and officials from attacks. Naturally, this only makes things worse. At the rate things are going, resistance cells and armed uprisings will become commonplace in Spain.

This attitude is starting to creep to the highest levels of Spain's government, too. Figures who could help reduce tension amongst the people have remained silent or worse, actively considered whether the agitators have a point.

Stability in Spain relies on bringing these people over to our side (or at least nullifying them somehow). The three priorities for us are as follows:

Queen Elena, the 20-year-old Queen of Spain. Elena became Queen when she was 4 years old, and is keenly sensitive to the fact that she is a figurehead, as is the local government of Spain. In fact, she has spent most of her life as nothing more than a puppet, a fact that she might resent.
Prime Minister Jaime Prieto Santiago is something of a power broker in Spain. He is no stranger to pragmatism and working with the reality of the situation. However, the 'reality of the situation' is rapidly changing to one that does not favour France. Give him some reasons to support the status quo.
Mr. Andreu Tomàs Cardona is a very old firebrand who can still remember the Second World War. His entire life has been one of resistance; he resisted Franco, he spent years campaigning for Catalonian independence, and has been campaigning against French influence ever since Impact, and is a highly respected member of Spain's largest (supposedly non-violent) resistance group. He organised many of the protests recently, and is a man who values the cause and his own morality over the 'greater good'.

Regardless, these individuals have made it clear in the past that they dislike Mazarin. However, all of them are much more receptive to one specific person- Ariadne Delacour, who once was acting Minister for Spain and the only one to hold the position with anything close to a positive approval rating in the country.
