The Tyrant

[21:47] <Minaplo> [The shadows became a cacophony of sound and a swirling whirlwind of images, with Sera caught in the very heart of the storm. For him, it was that he heard too much, not that he could hear nothing. The forceful sounds became so loud and ear-splitting, deafening and mind-shaking that he heard no individual notes but rather just endless, indistinguishable -sound-; the images melting into each other with the speed of their whirrs, becoming fields of blinding colour that hurt to look upon.]
[21:54] <@Sept> There it was again. The madness of those years that he knew was never far away. But where had it come from? It was so incredibly difficult to think through the noise and the light - all he could do in response was try to block his ears and yell back at the storm, focusing on the hatred for it rather than the fear of it.
[21:58] <Minaplo> [There was a response, it seemed, something in the chaotic environment changing in response to his screaming. A new sound- something fast and solid hurtling through the air- was immediately followed by a new sensation. A green-armoured fist smashed into his jaw, and in this nonsense place it knocked him off balance, although the pain was definitely real enough. With the punch, the sounds cut away, the images vanished. Sera would find himself lying at the bottom of a staircase within a perfectly spherical room. The room was slowly revolving and turning, but the staircase remained where it was. The green-armoured man stood at the very top, staring down at Sera with a dark, grim look.]
[22:03] * @Sept groaned and carefully tried to pick himself up, staring up at the figure. "Geofront. Angel. That's right. Who are you?"
[22:05] <Minaplo> ["I am everything you are not and yet should be, which makes me many things indeed, whilst also knowing what you should not be at all, yet are. You can refer to me however you want, but the simplest term is simply 'Tyrant'."]
[22:13] <@Sept> "I see." Sera stood up. He noticed a definite unsteadiness in his feet, from both the shock and the entire rest of the day. "And how do we do this? Single combat? Or is this a lecture?"
[22:14] <Minaplo> ["Single combat would be pointless, if I wanted to kill you I'd simply do it. A lecture suggests hours of talking and only moderate attention by those being lectured, so no. I do not intend for this to take hours." Tyrant dropped his spear- it hung in midair- and folded his arms.-
[22:15] <Minaplo> ["Although mind, it would probably take hours to cure all the damage dealt by your brand of febrile madness. No. I intend for you to teach yourself. A lunatic's proposal, perhaps."]
[22:19] * @Sept laughed. "Fine by me." He lowered his voice to nearly a whisper to accept the challenge. "You know that's what I do best, anyway."
[22:20] <Minaplo> ["No, what you do best is take in a great deal of incomplete information, declare yourself as having the full picture, discard logic and do something ridiculous. As I think we learned not ten minutes ago."]
[22:22] <@Sept> Silence, for a moment. "I will not back down as long as the answers are within my reach. Make your case."
[22:25] <Minaplo> ["Very well. Your visit with Primus. Explain what you learned."]
[22:31] <@Sept> "I let the forces behind Isaiah and William's access to the Evangelion, as well as their respective partners, play their hands uncontested. But my trust in Elisha's data remains. It's all we have."
[22:31] <Minaplo> ["Wrong."]
[22:32] <@Sept> "Explain."
[22:33] <Minaplo> ["-You- explain." Said the Tyrant, sitting down on the top step, one knee raised. "That's what we're here for, after all."]
[22:38] <@Sept> "There's something else we can trust..? Everything else we have is pieced together at best, nothing but conjecture!"
[22:43] <Minaplo> ["Everything is pieced together? How can you make the edges fit when they aren't made to fit? Why would you conjure up a picture made of distorted facts? If you do not have a clear picture the best choice is not to have a picture at all."]
[22:53] <@Sept> "We can -not- go forward without a plan, just reacting to everyone else's moves. I've made mistakes, but this is temporary! I don't need Elisha, -or- Ikari, if I have their original plans. It's somewhere in there, in his memories, in -my- memories, and I'm going to find it."
[22:55] <Minaplo> ["And what are you trying to accomplish, exactly?"]
[22:57] <@Sept> "That's… That's not for me to decide." Sera broke eye contact with the Tyrant for a short moment.
[22:58] <Minaplo> ["And why isn't it for you to decide?"]
[23:02] <@Sept> "Because it's not my world we're building. It's his world, and the world of everyone who survives."
[23:06] <Minaplo> ["And why is it his world? Why is it not, say, Mary Caine's world, or god forbid, the Angel's world?"]
[23:15] <@Sept> Sept's tone had definitely normalised, and his responses sounded more like he was lost in thought. "Because there's a purpose for me in it. And now I get to have this world. Live in it, a little, if I use my time right. Die with it. I'd be a crappy will to live if I didn't at least want that." This all began to seem a bit too familiar. Were these the questions he'd wanted Martin to ask
[23:15] <@Sept> him, instead of those meaningless things meant for others?
[23:17] <Minaplo> ["It is possible for you to have a purpose, without the world belonging to him. You know that, although you wish you didn't."]
[23:26] <@Sept> "…maybe. What are you suggesting? Hijack his plans, leave his soul to rot in those Evangelions? Join one of the others? Disappear from Paris and 'find my own place'?"
[23:28] <Minaplo> ["I'm not suggesting anything. In fact, you suggested every one of those actions right there."-
[23:30] <Minaplo> ["All I said is that it is possible for you to have a purpose, without the world belonging to him. That is all I said. Do you know what I find most telling about this? That I am telling you information that you already know, and yet somehow you suggest I am offering a path that is not the path you are taking right now."]
[23:36] <@Sept> "…" Sept just looked back at him, refusing to let the defeat show in his eyes, even if it was plain otherwise.
[23:37] <Minaplo> ["Primus. What did Primus tell you? Don't think about the plots of mankind or angels. What was -his- plan?"]
[23:43] <@Sept> "The… Celestial Way. It was there to connect the seeds. To gather all of the offspring together. Against the enemy."
[23:44] <Minaplo> ["Except his plan went wrong. Only six worlds were fertilised, not seven."]
[23:46] <@Sept> "We have to find another. Before the day it was waiting for."
[23:50] <Minaplo> ["So perhaps your purpose may be of this world, but the world itself does not belong to you." The Tyrant was solemn, now, staring down at the floor. "Perhaps, in essence, his ultimate quest here on this Earth is not to rule it, but to be free of it." Eyes up at Sera now.-
[23:50] <Minaplo> ["To be independent, free from the influence of any other."]
[23:57] * @Sept shifted his weight from one foot to another, mulling it over while looking away from the Tyrant, though there was nothing else to be seen in the sphere. "It's… not a bad way of looking at it."
[00:01] <Minaplo> ["But perhaps not the only way. But there are more than one way." Said the Tyrant. "That is the key, the lesson. There is -always- more than one way. There is never just one possibility. So long as there are possibilities, there will be more than one- the moment there exists only one possibility it becomes a certainty, an eventuality. Do not use information to support the old possibilities. Use it to support as many as you can, and go from there. See before yourself the web of possibilities, and from that, deduce the ones you think will happen… Or the ones you -want- to happen."]
[00:07] <@Sept> "…of course. I knew that."
[00:14] <Minaplo> ["Of course." Tyrant shook his head. "But do you see the difference between having information and knowing it? And how much danger lies within the difference?"]
[00:23] <@Sept> "Yes. I will… make sure I remember this. It's not my responsibility, but. I can choose to bear it."
[00:28] <Minaplo> ["Good." The Tyrant stood up. "Do you know what I am, now? I daresay you have many ideas…"]
[00:36] <@Sept> "You're not me. You're the thing that slipped through the unopenable door when I started remembering the ones before me. But -you're- not one of those ones, either."
[00:44] <Minaplo> ["You're right." Said the Tyrant. "Perhaps I'm older than all of them, or perhaps I don't even exist yet. Perhaps I'm as unreal as an idea or as weighty as a memory. I know that once you pass from this place, I will no longer exist as I am. The only thing giving me this existence is you. But then again, I may not be of you- curious, isn't it? It seems that I'm not your responsibility, but you chose to bear it, regardless."]
[00:51] * @Sept scoffed, perhaps self-aware of the sudden self-congratulatory implications of the conversation. "You know me. I'll bear any fucking responsibility at the slightest provocation."
[00:54] <Minaplo> ["It's one of your… Qualities, yes." Said the Tyrant, coughing slightly. "How about now I give you something? Memories of Elisha, perhaps. I have many of those."]
[01:02] <@Sept> "I won't stop you. Looking back at some of those times, I wish I could've done something. Reached out."
[01:09] <Minaplo> ["Perhaps you could have." Said the Tyrant, shrugging. "Perhaps it's simply a case of opportunity. Caine was a conniving, sneaky bastard, but he was clever, and he took opportunities when they came. And he made his own, of course, but why throw away gold when you're looking for it?"]
[01:23] <@Sept> "Definitely. They all were. But we learn as much from them as from each other."
[01:32] <Minaplo> ["Yes." The Tyrant stared down at Sera now. "Do you know why I'm called the Tyrant?"]
[01:36] <@Sept> "I can't imagine."
[01:37] <Minaplo> ["It's not because I slew a million men, or because I took away rights from a civilization."-
[01:38] <Minaplo> ["I'm called the Tyrant because I was once an idea. An idea that took root and fed into itself a thousand times over, crushing every other idea as a threat, not to my goals, but a reaction. Whatever purpose I served, I quickly ruined because of that tyranny. Eventually, the only way to stop that same tyranny was to destroy myself."-
[01:39] <Minaplo> ["Are you ready to take the first steps of the rest of your life?" His lips quirked into a smile. "A life where you have, perhaps, put an end to the tyranny of an idea."]
[01:44] * @Sept nodded, rather more seriously. "We'll have to see. If not, maybe I'll see you again and tell you all about it."
[01:50] <Minaplo> ["Oh, I'm counting on it." The Tyrant smiled.-
[01:51] <Minaplo> [The room quickly began to collapse like water down a drainpipe. The Tyrant vanished, sending Sera spiralling down, down, down…-
[01:51] <Minaplo> [Into nothingness.]
