The United Nations

Full Name: The United Nations
Capital: None (Based in Berlin-2)

The United Nations has changed greatly since its original inception. Once, it served as an international forum for nations, mediating disagreements, conflicts, and attempting to preserve global secutiy.

Second Impact changed all of that. With half of humanity dead and the old nations of Earth either wiped out or existing in a state of (at best) organised chaos, the situation called for truly outlandish measures. In this case, the militarisation of the United Nations; a coalition of European states, desperate to see order reestablished, turned their militaries over to UN control. Coupled with this sudden increase in military power, and empowered by a fiendishly new reinterpretation of its original mandate, the United Nations went to work restoring order around the world… Forcefully, if need be.

Other world powers, such as the United States and Russia, were quick to align themselves with the UN. This union of unopposed military strength was formalised on the 14th of February, 2001- the 'Valentine Treaty'. The event brought a close to the general warfare and open conflict that marred the opening months after Second Impact, although smaller conflicts and outbreaks of violence continued (and still continue) to rage.

Today, the UN's heavy-handed presence can be felt around the world. Although the first step on the road to a true one-world government, the UN is not shy about using force to crack down upon dissent or breakaway elements.
