This Too Shall Pass 3 2 11

[08:38] * Yanmei eyed the snack tray she'd had arranged and wondered if it looked suspicious. Would her guest suspect poison the way she herself had when she had visited with the Caines? -
[08:43] <Yanmei> She was waiting at a small table in one of the Dalmabahce Palace's many lounges. It was smaller than the one she had visited before, seemingly constructed to be more of a study judging by the bookshelves covering the walls. Still, there lots of soft chairs and a leather couch with elegant cushions. Comfortable!
[08:45] * Vera arrived not overly long after, dressed in the same prim suit she had been in during the talks themselves. The woman simply /waltzed in/ at first, until… "Ah, greetings Chancellor, I hope I didn't delay you overlong."
[08:49] <Yanmei> "Not at all?" Yanmei stood up, smoothly, in greeting. She was wearing her own blue and white UEF uniform still. "Please, make yourself comfortable."
[08:51] <Vera> "Of course, of course." Vera soon said with soft words, coming to recline on one of the soft chairs. She did so gingerly, rather than anything like /smugly/.
[08:58] * Yanmei moved closer too, taking the couch for herself. "These Summits are draining, aren't they? Between you and me, it's my first time attending one like this."
[09:01] * Vera crossed her right leg over her straight left, and nodded. "Fairly. I have my assistant doing a lot of the bureaucratic legwork for me, though. I believe our friends back at the Brazilian Military practically consider her the Dark God of Bureaucracy, for how adept she is." A smirk. "But I do think you made a decent showing!"
[09:07] <Yanmei> "Heh. Thanks! I'm a little jealous that they gave you an assistant for all this, though? My secretary is back at one of our bases, so I've had to sort it all out myself." She was smirking a bit. "Dark God of Bureaucracy, huh? Is she really that efficient?"
[09:10] <Vera> "Yes." Vera said with dread seriousness. "How much do you know about the /typical/ NeoAlexander student?"
[09:16] <Yanmei> "Would President Linden count as a typical NeoAlexander?" Yanmei pondered out loud.
[09:21] * Vera grinned. "No. Linden and Wellesley would be considered the star pupils. It's…" She gestured with a finger. "It's basically that with the way NeoAlexander training ended up going, the majority of students had one specialty - maybe two if they were lucky - and that was it. But they were often masters in their field more than half the time! Just… only in their field. My assistant
[09:21] * Vera that I brought here, is an example of such. She once created an entire black market economy during the program, down to supply contracts and complex distribution plans… and then submitted the results as her 'thesis project'. … But she had almost no grasp of battlefield tactics. THAT is the sort of NeoAlex student I mean."
[09:34] <Yanmei> "Huh." Yanmei raised her eyebrows. "That's still way beyond what most people would ever be able to accomplish? I'm impressed. Is she out enjoying the city, now that we have a bit of a break?"
[09:35] * Vannik (~ten.labolgcbs.xtslld.deepsthgil.212-441-251-99|kinnaV#ten.labolgcbs.xtslld.deepsthgil.212-441-251-99|kinnaV) has joined #nervfrance
[09:37] * Vera nodded her head. "Yes. …She has a spending limit and orders not to co-opt Istanbul's local economy, I assure you." Beat. "And just between you and me, she's just doing as much as she can while nursing a ridiculous hangover."
[09:43] * Yanmei laughed quietly. "Oh dear. Well. I hope she's getting along ok? Planning to join her with sightseeing once you get the chance?"
[09:45] <Vera> "I am planning on it, yes! Istanbul is a historic city - quite the rarity these days." Vera said plainly.
[09:51] <Yanmei> "Well, yes," Yanmei admitted. "And hopefully nothing will happen to it. It'd be nice to come back here again sometime."
[09:53] <Vera> "Oh, definitely~" Vera lightly chirped, before messing with the position of her folded leg some, as if silently signalling a topic change might be worth it (it's the fidgeting).
[10:00] * Yanmei took the hint, shifting over the party tray so that she and Vera could partake. It was essentially a vegetable tray, with a small shallow bowl of spicy dipping sauce in the center. "What do you think about the new face of the UN?"
[10:04] * Vera partook indeed, not seeming to generally care about the risk of poison here. "It's rather interesting that they chose him. He's been quite well-spoken and kindly, and seems to do his job well. …Though his science advisor is practically night-and-day to him, temperament-wise."
[10:06] <Yanmei> "I noticed that," Yanmei muttered with a frown. "Like she seemed to be getting frustrated with him? They probably fight all the time."
[10:07] * Vera chewed on a piece of broccoli, before narrowing her eyes subtly. "It could be that she represents a far less… concilliatory branch of the UN."
[10:14] <Yanmei> "Hm. I guess it's no surprise that there'd still be rifts in the UN." She didn't seem to be that choked up about it. In fact, her frown had vanished, and now there was a slightly cheerful tone in her voice.
[10:15] * Vera wagged her hand. "Or he just has his own interests. Or is an /excellent/ mouthpiece. There's lots of explanations."
[10:21] <Yanmei> "Mm. You know, they invited me over for a chat the other day. A friendly chat. With genuine friendliness. The UN's leaders have never done that before."
[10:22] * Vera …blinked. Audibly. "You know there's something wrong when 'a friendly chat' has to be appended with an assurance that actual friendliness was involved."
[10:27] <Yanmei> "Well we're literally at war with each other," Yanmei smiled wryly. "Relations have… not been good."
[10:28] * Vera shrugged. "The implication was 'ever in your experience', but I'll concede the point!"
[10:40] <Yanmei> "You're not wrong either. Even before we split off, they were never exactly friendly with NERV personnel? Well. Not outside of the attaches they sent to us."
[10:44] <Vera> "..Aha. Though really, I'm not surprised anyway? So a long history of bad blood…"
[11:07] <Yanmei> "Like you wouldn't believe," Yanmei agreed. "Ugh. But! All that aside, I'm grateful for this Summit just because of that opportunity, however strange it actually was."
[11:08] * Vera chuckled more than a bit, but… "I can imagine. If they're that personable…"
[11:13] <Yanmei> "They are, apparently. Also confident in their ability to change their organization for the better from the inside. Maybe too confident."
[11:14] * Vera had quite the skeptical look on her face. "I… …It's a bit monolithic for that, I'd think."
[11:16] <Yanmei> "I know, right? And it's not like they're dumb. They must realize that."
[11:18] * Vera pursed her lips. "Keep an eye on them and their officers, to see what if anything might change… That'd be my suggestion. They'd probably most work with their direct subordinates first. If I were them I'd use that to generate a powerbase that has explicit reason to trust and value me over the organization, even if for a morally-pure reason, while keeping contingencies to deal with
[11:18] * Vera various… issues."
[11:24] <Yanmei> "From what I've heard about the treatment of the UN's rank-and-file soldiers these days, it wouldn't be too hard to generate a powerbase like that," Yanmei muttered.
[11:27] <Vera> "…Probably not that surprised." Vera softly intoned. "But it remains to be seen. Honestly, the people you should be looking at in the following months are their pilots."
[11:31] <Yanmei> "Ah yes. We've met, actually."
[11:33] <Vera> "Then you'll know what the prior state is." Vera said almost immediately. "To much of the world outside the two belligerents, your own nation included, selfsame pilots - the 'Solomon Primes' - are a deep mystery, assuming you're lucky enough to even know they exist."
[11:49] <Yanmei> "Hm." Yanmei sighed. "As far as we know, there are only a handful of them? And most of our interactions have come from either combat, keeping them prisoner during the war, or from those who were imprisoned by the UN. Is there anything in particular that you're curious about?"
[12:08] * Vera brightened subtly at the chance to get some useful intelligence. "Well, we mostly know they're very high-powered, probably one of the most advanced types of bioexotic on scales of raw power - AT Fields included. Which suuuuggests at the very least a subtly Guard-like setup of a core and general genetic engineering. But other than that? …Honestly, just an overview of their nature
[12:08] * Vera and rough capabilities would be good."
[12:15] <Yanmei> "Ok. So. You're right about the biological setup. They are very much like Guards in that they have a core, and they're among the most powerful bioexotics to exist thus far? The genetic material used in their creation originally came from… NERV personnel. The Eva Pilots to be precise."
[12:17] * Vera scrunched her face. "…That sounds almost petty. And if they've been meant for infiltration, I haven't seen it? So it just seems like some kind of mocking joke."
[12:26] <Yanmei> "If there was a reason for it, I don't know what it is," Yanmei sighed. "It wasn't even that convenient for them? They already had a full template from when the Ayanami sisters were born. Not that they aren't putting -that- to use as well these days."
[12:34] * Vera nodded her head, if slightly disapprovingly. "Mass supersoldier production. Pragmatism without ethics, even. Not even /gleeful/ ignorance of ethics either."
[12:40] <Yanmei> "We haven't even gotten to their conditioning, which has been brutal from what I can tell. The Primes, at least, have somehow managed to retain their own personalities, although few of them are well adjusted."
[12:44] * Vera briefly thought of people like Kader. Or maybe Knight Jani. Decent folk, but… not neededly 'well-adjusted'. "Typical bioexotic story. Comes with the 'manufactured for a war' territory way more often than anyone would like."
[08:26] <Yanmei> "I dunno that they're typical bioexotics though? Like their, um, initiation into the world and into the UN's ranks specifically was pretty traumatic."
[08:28] * Vera …considered that fairly significantly. "I suppose I /implied/ room for exaggeration of the normal tale, but if you mean to say…" Vera left that hanging for the most part.

Of course, afterward, their memories of the trials were wiped and they underwent -aggressive- conditioning to make them loyal to Mary Caine. Of course, we can't prove it, and if we tried to we'd endanger the one Prime whose memories weren't wiped completely. So…"

[08:52] * Vera raised a brow. "…The conditioning makes sense, in its own twisted fashion. But what's the point of the murder and torture?" Vera said with a shake of her head. "Not that Brazilian intelligence agencies are slouches, but I am somewhat getting the impression that the proverbial well of horrible deeds and quasi-mystical secrets draws very, very deep and I'm only scarcely aware of
[08:52] * Vera it."
[09:01] <Yanmei> "…" Yanmei tried her damndest not to look uncomfortable. Instead, she answered the initial question. "The Primes, like Iron Guards, have the ability to quickly heal their wounds. They also have the ability to heal in adaptive ways? If one of them breaks an arm repeatedly, it will strengthen each time it's healed until it can no longer be broken at all. With that in mind, can you see where the UN was going with the torture thing?"
[09:06] * Vera frowned. "…As I said. Pragmatism without ethics."
[09:10] <Yanmei> "Yeah, it is," Yanmei said with a sigh. "Stuff like that makes me think we're better off not going much deeper into that 'well of horrible deeds and quasi-mystical secrets'."
[09:13] * Vera managed to put on a sort of half-smile. "Not dumping the entirety of the UN's dirty laundry on the beautiful and elegant Brazilian representative? How disappointing." She ensured a beat passed, during which the smile faded again. "In all seriousness I respect that, not /just/ for that little gem of sarcasm about free intelligence gathering, but for the emotional reasons you stated."
[09:20] <Yanmei> "You're welcome," Yanmei grinned. "There's also a pragmatic reason for it on my end too."
[09:24] * Vera began to blink a few times. "…Other than, again, not dropping loads of confidential and possibly worldview-shattering details on an unaligned nation via me as proxy? Do tell."
[09:35] <Yanmei> "Ok. So. It's not like we don't suspect that there's deep dark stuff going on in the UN? It's just that we can't prove it with witnesses or tangible proof. Which is a problem. Like, if I fed you information that was not only inaccurate but sounded completely nuts from the start…"
[09:39] <Vera> "…Ah. So you're saying, basically, that the majority of it is outlandish enough that to my superiors, you might as well have lied to me even if you told the truth as you best knew it."
[09:41] <Yanmei> "Exactly."

[09:46] * Vera sighed. "…I…" She actually needed to compute, just… frustrated at that detail. "I hope for your sake that you find proof. If 'adaptive biological defenses through abject torture' is the most /plausible/ thing you can tell me, I'd hate to imagine just how absurd the rest is."
[09:46] * SyntaxPhone (~if.elibom-asile.tan-821-921-67-58|xatnyS#if.elibom-asile.tan-821-921-67-58|xatnyS) Quit (Ping timeout)

[09:57] <Yanmei> "You have… no idea. If there is more that we can confirm, we'll absolutely pass it on to you? But yeah. If you had any more questions about the Primes, I could at least answer those for you. You can learn quite a lot just by talking to them or, if needed, through physical exams.
[09:58] * Vera thought on that. "…I can't think of /too/ much else I need to ask about them, no." Vera admitted.
[10:02] <Yanmei> "All right. Any questions about stuff the UEF has done? Or, like, Eva pilots in general?"
[10:17] <Vera> "Hmmm." Vera considered… "I'm not sure I can think of any direct questions about the pilots or the UEF's actions. I mean, during their tenure as member of NERV, your pilo… ts…" Vera suddenly realized she /could/ think of a direct question. "Actually I /do/ have questions. First… Do you have any advice for managing an Eva pilot's… Romantic life? I was an abnormal teenager and young
[10:17] <Vera> adult in that field, and not in the /same mode of abnormal/ as a pilot would be. With the preponderance of child soldiers due to things like the Neo- programs, I figure it'd be important to know and something you'd be uniquely qualified to answer, as one of the pilots from the very beginning of the program." Nice save on the 'flimsy attempt to cover up what my job /really/ is' front.
[10:30] <Yanmei> "Rom… hrm." Yanmei gave her a somewhat odd look, but that quickly gave way to a pondering one. "Honestly? Our superiors had a pretty hands-off approach, except when it came to things like, uh, contraception. See, there were enough pilots around to allow for mingling, and there were lots of non-pilots from school or from the Neospartan program that we were often around. Hook-ups just sort of happened. That said, I guess any advice would be to allow for lots of social co-ed events with people around the pilot's own age and to be ready to distract them or give them a shoulder to cry on when the inevitable drama hits. And it -will- hit. Probably a lot."
[10:33] * Vera seemed to appreciate it, from the vague smile. "I see. …I suppose more /opportunities/ for romance would make it more likely. Thank you for answering the… unusual question. The next one is more acceptable." She smiled a bit more earnestly. "How have your NeoAlexander alumni been doing?"
[10:40] * SyntaxPhone (~if.elibom-asile.tan-51-3-67-58|xatnyS#if.elibom-asile.tan-51-3-67-58|xatnyS) has joined #nervfrance
[10:43] * Yanmei grinned. "They've been incredible. Wellesley has been thriving for a while now. He's an OD and he's earned a lot of respect from the work he does. At first he fought a lot with the other ODs, but that's water under the bridge now. They all get along really well! And Linden is, well. The President of a country. She seems satisfied with the work she's doing, if not constantly busy. There are also all sorts of romantic rumors always floating around her, which is pretty fun~"
[10:47] * Vera quirked a brow, pausing to /consider/ the romantic rumors, but deciding against it. "Ah, are there any others that aren't the two famous success stories? That you know of. …" She blushed, suddenly. "I admit, I'm looking for someone in particular that /might/ be with the UEF."
[10:49] <Yanmei> "Oh?" She cocked her head, another smile starting when she noticed the blush. "What's that person's name?"
[10:53] * Vera looked vaguely fretful. "…His name is Arthur. He has a… very long and convoluted name that I imagine he'd be very cross for me to tell the /rest/ of, so you're just getting the given name." A short pause, before. "But. I think he has some kind of absurd nickname he prefers to go by?"
[10:56] <Yanmei> "Yeah…?" She was thinking hard, trying to match his name up to a face. "Hm. Do you know the nickname? Maybe any other identifying information?"
[10:59] <Vera> "I don't. But uh… He's like most Alexanders - some kind of extreme specialization but almost no talent in the other things they wanted. His? Information control." Vera noted calmly, managing to overcome some of that discomfort. "…I /think/ he's running an information-brokerage firm called the Hermes Institute now."
[11:09] <Yanmei> "Oh. Ohhh~~ That guy. He's going by the name 'Brofessor' these days. Hung out on our ship with an ex-mercenary bartender who teased him endlessly. He was in the Crystal Massacre, but escaped unharmed. He's back on the Dorian again."
[11:14] * Vera brightened a bit, probably as a slightly uncontrolled reaction. "Ah, so he survived, and… well… Uh…" Vera's eyes shifted slightly. "I want you to give him a message. Specifically, because I had been out of contact with him for a few years, I would like for him to know that he has a daughter by me. I'm not asking for financial aid or for him to come live with me, just… for
[11:14] * Vera him to know and, just… decide on his own what to do."
[11:19] <Yanmei> Yanmei's eyes widened. "He… Oh wow. Yes, of course I'll tell him! And while it's probably -quite- late, I'd like to congratulate the two of you."
[11:24] * Vera brightened /more/. "…Well, thank you! I'm certainly proud of little Sol, too."
[11:27] <Yanmei> "How old is she? If you don't mind me asking?"
[11:29] <Vera> "Two and a half!" Was Vera's quick response.
[11:30] <Yanmei> "Ah! I'm looking after a little girl who's around three. They're amazing at this age, aren't they?"
[11:38] * Vera chuckled gently. "Oh, definitely. She's a bit precocious, and our resident questionable scientific genius keeps making these toddler-friendly puzzleboxes for her. It's sort of cute to see her play with them."
[11:44] <Yanmei> "That does sound cute! Has she made friends with a lot of other people at your base as well?"
[11:46] * Vera thought about that, scratching her chin. "…Some? I've had at least a few playdates set up, and she gets on well enough with the usual daycare crowd.
[11:55] * Yanmei nodded happily. "We use daycare when we can as well. There are also several UEF personnel and pilots that our Lizzie adores. Ayanami Rei, for one, may very well be her favorite. No puzzleboxes, though… the closest thing she has to that is a pet cat that Lizzie likes to play with a lot when she visits."
[12:02] * Vera smiled a little. "Ah! Cats are always fun, and while not as good with children as dogs are… are still inoffensive and /cute/. But it's good that she gets along with Rei. Though what little of the NERV rumor-mill back when you guys were NERV, that got out? More or less said that Rei was probably effectively the friend of every single person that got to know her, no exceptions."
[12:07] <Yanmei> "That's pretty much completely true? Even the biggest jerks in our organization bear her no ill will."
[12:17] <Vera> Another chuckle. "Not at all surprised. She sounds very kind?"
[12:23] <Yanmei> "She is. She's um. Basically our resident embodiment of peace and pacifism. Which is a strange thing to say given that she's a pilot?"
[12:26] * Vera waved her hand subtly. "It happens. Necessary actions, reluctant heroes, all of that."
[12:31] <Yanmei> "Yeah," Yanmei nodded. "…I take it you personally know people like that too?"
[12:31] * Vera shook her head. "Not really, but it just seems… like a natural response to the dilemma."
[12:36] * Yanmei nodded again, more slowly. "Yeah, you're right. Actually, even some of our more aggresive people are hoping for a swift end to this armed conflict of ours. No one likes fighting other humans much."
[12:37] <Vera> "I can imagine…" Vera said a bit ruefully.
[23:44] <Yanmei> "…" Yanmei clapped her hands lightly together. "So! I heard you met with Guillory? He did mention you and your assistant and some very interesting rumors going around about him." She was trying to hide a smirk but… was not really succeeding.
[00:07] * Vera noticed the smirk, brow raising as she… almost humoring Yanmei. "But surely you already know most of the scuttlebutt about the man…"
[00:12] <Yanmei> "Of course! He's surprisingly popular, so there are all sorts of rumors about him at any given time. Usually about his love life? The battle rumors are a relatively recent phenomenon."
[00:14] * Vannik (~ten.labolgcbs.xtslld.deepsthgil.851-641-251-99|kinnaV#ten.labolgcbs.xtslld.deepsthgil.851-641-251-99|kinnaV) has joined #nervfrance
[00:15] <Vera> "…Ah yes, the legendary ladykiller in a child's guise. Also the whole heart eating thing." Vera said with amused wistfulness.
[00:16] <Yanmei> "That's right?" Yanmei watched her carefully. "You didn't fall in love with him during your meeting, did you~?"
[00:21] <Vera> "Even if I had…" Vera pointed out. "…My assistant's ridiculous drunken advances on him would've probably broken his sorcerous ways through sheer /comedy/." A chuckle! "I'm almost positive Ms. Prescott has learned the concept of drinking in moderation now."
[00:29] * Yanmei laughed. "Oho~ Poor Ms. Prescott. Guillory was a trooper about it, I hope?"
[00:31] * Minaplo (~ua.ten.tenii.nyd.651-352-602-302|olpaniM#ua.ten.tenii.nyd.651-352-602-302|olpaniM) has joined #nervfrance
[00:35] * Vera /nodded/. "He is /eternally/ a trooper about these matters. The unflappability is almost disappointing, if you ask me."
[00:41] <Yanmei> "Hm. There are some people who have managed to get under his skin with ease, though? One of them is in the UEF's hotel suite right now. So it's not like he's -completely- unflappable. Maybe he's just used to the flirting. Or the drinking."
[00:46] <Vera> "And especially the drunk flirting." …But then Vera's own gossip radar pinged. "And /who/ would /that/ beeee?"
[00:49] <Yanmei> "Pilot de Pteres? I think Guillory's pegged him as either some sort of troublemaker or someone he would rather not be involved with or both."
[00:51] * Vera suddenly had this look of abject understanding. "Ah yes. Him. The mad dog of the Parisian pilots. I hear he's quite eccentric? And egotistical?"
[00:52] <Yanmei> "Yes. But, well. I think he's mellowed out a bit lately? Not that it's stopped him from still getting into trouble…"
[00:56] * Vera folded her legs a bit, thinking on it. "So it seems. But if anyone would be an irritation to Guillory, it /would/ be de Pteres."
[01:03] <Yanmei> "At least they haven't been fighting much during this trip," Yanmei said brightly. "Maybe Sera's trying to be professional too? Before I left, I tried explaining to my husband that the chances of him starting an international incident were actually pretty low, but he didn't look like he was buying it."
[01:05] * Vera sort of waved her hand a little bit. "Bizarre and maniacal as he might be, he's just one boy. Keep him secure and on watch and there's not much he can /do/."
[01:12] <Yanmei> "If by 'secure,' you mean in a locked cell of sort? Then yeah. He's proven that he's pretty good at bypassing most other security measures? But." She frowned rather deeply. "I'd rather not see him in a cell, you know?"
[01:13] <Vera> "…No? I meant in a situation where he's physically limited but more importantly, socially limited with clear penalties for going outside the lines." Vera said, as if astonished Yanmei would think of 'a prison cell' first.
[01:17] <Yanmei> "Right! Of course, of course!" The frown vanished at once, replaced by an apologetic half-smile. "Sorry. One of my advisors is always like, 'Brig this, Brig that,' you know? Force of habit."
[01:24] <Vera> "A cage of words and obligations tends to make them less likely to test its boundaries." Vera said plainly.
[01:36] * Yanmei nodded enthusiastically. "Plus it's less stressful for them and for everyone else involved. I think the people working under you must be very lucky."
[01:49] * Vera grinned. "Now /that/ is some nice praise, Madam Chancellor."
[02:04] <Yanmei> "You're welcome! I am curious, though, about what they're like. Professional, I bet. No rampant teasing, or gambling incidents, or programing and distributing dumb videogames about other military personnel…"
[02:06] * Vera …thought about that. And smirked. "No, but there's the Iron Guard bridgemember constantly hitting on anyone he can find, Ms. Prescott's tendencies to co-opt /any/ economic body she can get away with doing that to, or perhaps how we have a fully functional Danger Room."
[02:12] <Yanmei> "W-wow. You did mention Ms. Prescott's economic savviness before, but the flirty guy sounds annoying. And a Danger Room, huh? You guys use it to run standard training drills…?"
[02:19] * Vera shook her head. "Iron Guard stuff, really. They just can't get enough of it." But then… A conspiratorial expression. "What's worse, is the flirty guy is /telepathic/. Imagine /that/ for a second."
[02:26] <Yanmei> "N-no," Yanmei groaned, imagining it all too clearly. "How far is his range? He can't, like, telepathically hit on you while you're asleep and dreaming, right? I mean, chances are you wouldn't remember much about it after waking up, so how would you even know to yell at him appropriately for it?"
[02:31] * Vera waved her hand. "It's probably mostly perceptual? …Or maybe a rough klick or so. Either way it's certainly not enough that he can hit on a waif in New York from a penthouse in Rio or… something like that."
[02:36] <Yanmei> "Oh. Well, that's pretty manageable, then!"
[02:43] <Vera> "Yes! Also. The iron-willed can guess his behavior enough to know when he's listening…" The grin from earlier came back. "…and instead of your own thoughts, show him a well-oiled commanding officer."
[02:49] * Yanmei snorted with laughter. "Serves him right!" A short, thoughtful pause. "Wait. That's the power of imagination, right? Your commanding officer doesn't regularly get oiled up…?"
[02:51] <Vera> "Vice-commanding, and only when he goes to the Danger Room to blow off steam!" Vera said, though it'd be notable that her grin became cheshire.
[03:03] <Yanmei> "I see…" She couldn't really though. Perhaps they were a little more like the UEF than she had been led to believe. So much for professionalism… "But. Oiling aside, does the Danger Room really raise morale? More and more Iron Guards have been joining us, so if we gave them something like that to exercise in, maybe they'd be less… cranky?"
[03:07] <Vera> "Well…" Vera began. "It's actually inherited from LN designs? We just- ahem- Perfected it. Or maybe just made it properly operational~ …But maybe something similar to that, or at least /something/ suitably 'hardcore' would be quite entertaining." A vague glance elsewhere in the sitting room, then back to Yanmei. "After all, they were made for war, and conditioned to match. You probably
[03:07] <Vera> know all about it if you're working alongside them more."
[03:13] <Yanmei> "Yeah, I do? We've done our best with holographic tech and one-on-one sparring matches, but they don't seem to be that satisfying? To make matters worse, holographs haven't been that reliable on the battleships we're using. I mean, it used to be pretty good on the Dorian, but it hasn't been the same after the ship was almost obliterated."
[03:19] * Vannik (~ten.labolgcbs.xtslld.deepsthgil.851-641-251-99|kinnaV#ten.labolgcbs.xtslld.deepsthgil.851-641-251-99|kinnaV) Quit (Quit: Sleep.)

[03:20] * Vera slowly nodded a few times at that. "So essentially, the regimen is lacking. I can tell you that a danger room routine /can/ be holographic, but there are live-fire versions too. Also with spikes and motorized barriers and other… interesting implements."
[03:20] * Minaplo (~ua.ten.tenii.nyd.651-352-602-302|olpaniM#ua.ten.tenii.nyd.651-352-602-302|olpaniM) has joined #nervfrance
[03:23] <Yanmei> "So, basically death traps, then. Surely someone in Technical would be interested in designing something like that…"
[03:25] * Mianplo (~ua.ten.tenii.nyd.651-352-602-302|olpaniM#ua.ten.tenii.nyd.651-352-602-302|olpaniM) has joined #nervfrance
[03:25] <Vera> "…Given the type of people I figure work for your Technical branch…"

[03:30] <Yanmei> "Yeah," she said a little awkwardly. "Thanks for the idea, by the way."
[03:50] <Vera> "Not a problem!" Vera cheerfully replied.
[03:56] <Yanmei> "Also, thank you for the conversation in general. I feel like I know a little more about you now? Which is good, since we'll probably meet again because of all these politics."
[04:07] * Vera nodded her head softly. "Ah, it was my pleasure." …And she began to stand up!
[04:14] * Yanmei stood up as well, to politely see her off. "I'll give Guillory your regards~ And I'll see you at the next meeting, ok?"
[04:18] <Vera> "Absolutely!" Vera said, beore walking off, into the halls of the palace~
