This Too Shall Pass 3 2 13

[08:29] <Weaver> "So how much of this is being recorded?" Talker mused.-
[08:30] <Weaver> "Assume most public areas - counted eleven cameras on the way. They're not very covert about it, so private areas seem private enough," Weaver rattled quickly.-
[08:30] <Weaver> "Ooh, look at us, we're so Lawful Good with our flying boat of justice and death."-
[08:33] <Weaver> "Exactly. This is easy, just follow the script," Weaver smiled and adjusted his glasses, in perfect sync with Talker. This was yet another factor making Edvard Durandi, the third and final member of the Wizard Army's delegation, stand out sorely as the odd one out. The forty-plus age difference didn't help, of course.

[08:42] <Mianplo> ["You and the Chancellor have history together, yes, Weaver?" Said Durandi mildly.]
[08:46] <Weaver> "That's correct. Interviewed her for a hilarious murder case. Simpler times."-
[08:47] <Weaver> "She's not the one that done did stole the Wizard's heart, though~" Talker sang.
[08:47] <Mianplo> <Use your goddamn brackets>
[08:48] <Weaver> <Not these ones>
[08:48] <Mianplo> ["Hmm…"]
[08:50] <Weaver> "That case we don't talk about."
[08:59] <Yanmei> The door suddenly opened. -
[09:01] <Yanmei> Zhang Yanmei briskly walked in with a tablet under one arm. She was wearing the usual Chancellor uniform, her hair arranged neatly in a single braid going down her back. "Morning gentlemen," she smiled, going for her chair.
[09:08] <Mianplo> [Stalking in behind her, looking imposing in his heavy, ornately-decorated armour and dark red mantle, was Vercingetorix. He was silent as he sat.]
[09:11] <Weaver> [Both of the youths stood up to offer Yanmei a respectful nod before finding their seats again.]-
[09:11] <Weaver> "Chancellor. Vercingetorix," Weaver began. "I understand you haven't met, so this is my colleague Talker, and Mr. Edvard Durandi, our expert on some of the politics surrounding the European conflict."-
[09:13] <Weaver> ["A distinct pleasure, Chancellor," Talker smiled. "I trust Istanbul was agreeable this time of year?"]
[09:17] <Mianplo> [Durandi offered Yanmei a short bow and a nod before sitting.]
[09:17] * Yanmei had nodded politely to each of them upon their introductions. "It was? Not that I had the chance to actually see much of the city. Business, you know?" She shrugged.
[09:22] <Weaver> ["Naturally. You continued to put seasoned veterans of the field to shame with your performance, we heard."]-
[09:23] * Weaver offered no backup, crossing his fingers on the table idly.
[09:31] <Yanmei> "Oh, I wouldn't go that far?" Yanmei chuckled smugly, "But thank you for the compliment. Basically, we were all just working together to quickly reach some agreements, the same way you, me, and everyone else here is right now."
[09:37] <Weaver> "Hah, of course," Weaver spoke up. "Seeing how productive the Paris operations were, we're looking forward to working with you again. Where do we begin?"
[09:53] <Yanmei> "Ok. So. Let's keep this short and simple? What do you guys want in terms of compensation for your continued cooperation?"
[10:05] * Weaver steepled his hands in front of him. "We've proven our organization's efficacy when mobilized, and have formed significant ties with members of yours. That means the both of us have already shared much of our secrets. First of all, regardless of where you'd wish to direct our efforts, we want shared access to captured enemy facilities for a limited time. We have no desire to expand, but it's imperative for us to be able to ascer
[10:11] <Weaver> - to be able to ascertain you're not misleading us regarding your immediate goals."
[10:18] <Yanmei> "You think we'd mislead-" she stopped herself, glancing subtly at Vercy. "No. That's fair, actually. There shouldn't be a problem sharing facilities or resources like that."
[10:19] <Mianplo> [Vercingetorix had folded his gauntleted hands together. He was silent and imposing. There were disturbing dark red stains around the knuckles of his gauntlets.]
[10:25] * Weaver nodded. "In return, if you find yourselves pressed for time, our R&D staff is at your disposal for any of your outsourcing needs, with complete transparency. I'm sure Doctors Reinder and Surov would be thrilled to work together again."-
[10:29] <Weaver> [Talker seemed to just be keeping an eye on Yanmei and Weaver's reactions with that smile still plastered on his face, but on closer inspection he'd matched his general pose with Vercingetorix's. He glanced at him with a subtle wink before returning his attention to Yanmei.]
[10:49] <Yanmei> "We'll consider that, thanks," Yanmei said politely. "Two heads are better than one and all that? Was there anything else you had in mind?"
[10:59] <Weaver> "Considering all our operations so far have been co-operative, we'll have to discuss terms on a case-by-case basis if you need us to take care of something independently. Of course, we can give you some degree of deniability in that case."-
[11:01] <Weaver> "Oh, and considering how useful Apostle Mortens has been to you, feel free to keep him on board for now. That's a freebie."-
[11:01] <Weaver> ["We don't like him very much," Talker translated.]
[11:11] <Yanmei> "Wait, what?" Instant suspicion. "I'm not sure if that's completely necessary."
[11:17] <Weaver> "Well, I'm not going to barter about it," Weaver replied, for the first time sounding the least bit aggressive. "But it's clear to us you've already established a more than friendly relationship with Commander Euphemia that we'd be hard-pressed to sever, so perhaps I can appeal to your sense of fairness to find something for the Apostle Prime to do as well."
[11:19] <Weaver> [Talker looked at Vercingetorix again, offering him a shrug - apologetic? - on the sidelines.]
[11:26] * Yanmei frowned, silently weighing her options in her head. -
[11:30] <Yanmei> "All right," she said finally. There were worse deals that they could make. "We'll find a job for him. Likely continuing to assist with security."
[11:36] <Weaver> "Your generosity has been noted, Chancellor!" Weaver tapped a number of fingers on the table, as if counting down a shopping list. "On a final related note - and I don't need a binding agreement on this - I'd like your word that our Guard corps will be covered by the same post-war integration programs as yours."
[11:43] <Yanmei> "Naturally. I envision those being fairly open programs."
[11:44] <Mianplo> ["A question." Said Durandi.]
[11:44] <Yanmei> "Yes?"
[11:45] <Mianplo> ["Your integration program, or the greater framework that you proposed to the summit- does that include reproduction rights?"]
[12:07] <Yanmei> "The committees who are designing the program are going to address that, yes. As of right this minute, the details have not been hashed out, and you are welcome to submit your concerns to them. Feedback may help them to make faster decisions."
[12:07] <Mianplo> ["Well as we know, the only known way for the Guard to increase their numbers is through the intense process they themselves went through…"]
[12:08] <Weaver> "Would you prefer that process be controlled and limited to approved facilities?"
[12:17] <Yanmei> "I would assume it would have to be, just given the nature of it? You can't have people trying to do that without the proper equipment or training. It would be a disaster."
[12:20] <Weaver> "Is that an acceptable starting point?" Weaver asked Durandi, leaning back in his chair to join Talker and Vercingetorix momentarily on the periphery of the conversation.
[12:21] <Mianplo> ["I think so."]
[12:25] <Weaver> "I'll concede the matter to the committees, as well. Our long-term plans are currently in flux, and we wouldn't want to interfere with nothing but speculation."-
[12:25] <Weaver> ["Oh, we'd never," Talker echoed.]-
[12:26] <Weaver> "Beyond that, our strategic goals are unchanged, correct? Crush the Germans, somehow win over Brazil?"
[12:28] <Yanmei> "More or less. Goes without saying, but we have to keep civilian casualties to a minimum in the process, or we'll risk the wrath of every other nation on earth. Also we're supposed to be doing that -anyway-."
[12:34] <Weaver> ["Of course!" Talker took the initiative for once. "That'd be most unfortunate for your efforts. But we don't mind an additional challenge, right?"]
[12:44] <Yanmei> "Like I said, we're supposed to be doing that anyway, not just for our own efforts," Yanmei sighed. "But thank you for cooperating."
[12:47] <Weaver> "Heh heh. You're very welcome, Chancellor. We will remain at your disposal. If that is all, then…?"
[12:50] <Yanmei> "Yes." Yanmei stood again, nodded. "It was a pleasure, gentlemen."
[12:53] * Weaver led his entourage in standing up and responding to the gesture. "Definitely, Chancellor. Productive."-
[12:57] <Weaver> ["A pleasure," Talker replied, nodding to Yanmei and Vercingetorix, lingering with the latter again. "You did okay, by the way. Never thought I'd say this, but I think we preferred the old coot. Guy never backed down. Well." He adjusted his glasses with a half-smile and turned to leave with the others.]
[12:57] <Mianplo> ["…"]
[13:07] * Weaver and his party exited stage left, victorious, with one more nod to the Supreme Chancellor, to find their way beamed back down to sweet terra firma.
[13:11] * Yanmei kept up the polite smile until they were gone, and then abruptly dropped it, shooting the closing door a death-glare. "Assholes," she muttered.
