Dwarf List

Below are the army lists for the Dwarf cultures. All Combat scores are at natural levels and do not account for armour from equipment. Their armour scores after all armour-boosting equipment, is given in parentheses.

Imperial Dwarfs

All Henchmen below possess the 'Imperial Dwarf' culture.

Common Henchmen

Dwarf Warrior

All Dwarfs are warriors. This is not just a boastful point of pride but a matter of fact: when war comes, all Dwarfs of age, regardless their profession, down tools and raise armour and axe. Dwarfs train regularly with their weapons, and so this 'militia' unit is easily capable of matching blows with the elites of other armies.

Quarreller

A 'Quarreller' is a Dwarf warrior who specialises in the crossbow (because a crossbow bolt is also known as a quarrel. And Dwarfs love to quarrel.). The crossbow is a useful weapon to the Dwarfs, for it is easily adapted to their stout frames and not overly restrictive in tunnel fighting. Unlike the ranged warriors of other peoples, Dwarf quarrellers are expected to hold their own in close combat.

Thunderer

Thunderers are Dwarf warriors who use the handgun in battle. It took many years after the creation of blackpowder for the handgun to become widespread, but now most Dwarf clans use them. The handgun is a solid weapon capable of downing even heavily armed foes, and the Dwarfs themselves are plenty tough enough to finish off any stragglers without the need for bullets.

Ranger

Rangers are dedicated Dwarfs who act as scouts and guerrilla warriors. Walking arsenals, they give advance warning to the Dwarfs regarding incoming dangers, then work on whittling those dangers down with traps, ambushes and devilish schemes. They are independent and free-spirited by Dwarf standards, so despite their resourcefulness, they are rarely given the respect they deserve.

Longbeards

Dwarfs do not shave their beards. Since Dwarfs also live long, those with the longest beards are also the oldest. Dwarf society respects age as a mark of experience and bearer of tradition. A Longbeard, then, is exactly that: an old, respected Dwarf, told apart by their long beards. Longbeards are infamous for their grumbling- they complain about everything, often subjecting younger Dwarfs to long-winded castigations about everything from their craftsmanship to the fact that orcs aren't as big as they used to be, back in the day…

Elite Henchmen

Hammerer

Hammerers are an elite of the elite. These Dwarfs are the most skilled warriors to be found in a Dwarf hold, and are usually used to guard the King, his family, other important hold leaders, and certain key locations (the armoury, the treasury, the brewery…). They are rarely found outside of their own holds, and those that are rarely do so without special orders from their lords.

Old Guard

The Old Guard are the oldest, beardiest and grumbliest of the Longbeards. They are, in fact, Longbeards who grumble about other Longbeards, which gives them a special kind of pre-eminence and social capital. Old Guards have fought many, many, many battles and will tell you not only each and every one, but why the least of that battle was grander than the best of yours. No one can deny that they have the equipment and skills to back those stories up, however…
