Women S Revolution In Saudi Arabia

Women's Revolution in Saudi Arabia

"Down with the pariah king."
-Women's Army slogan

Like most countries, Saudi Arabia had a turbulent period in the aftermath of Impact. Its neighbours to the north wiped themselves out in a storm of nuclear fire, as did India and Pakistan, leaving Saudi Arabia as the only regional power of note by process of elimination. As refugees streamed into the country on foot from the north and on boats from the west and east, the government, like many, became much more repressive, even moreso than it originally had been. Many refugees were turned back, forced to eke out a living in nuclear hellscapes; others were accepted but treated as basically second class citizens.

As the world economy began to slowly stabilise, Saudi Arabia slowly came to terms with its new regional pre-eminence. The loss of traditional foes in Iran, Iraq and Syria left Saudi Arabia practically unchallenged militarily, and the world was in dire need of oil, which made up a massive proportion of Saudi Arabia's income. Thus for the years past 2002, Saudi Arabia grew richer than ever and more powerful; with the only land routes into the country nuclear dead zones or controlled by minor powers, Saudi Arabia dedicated itself to constructing a mighty navy, with which it projected a sphere of influence across the Indian Ocean and the coast of East Africa.

However, Saudi Arabia did not go unchallenged. The Saudi dynasty was built on an extremely conservative branch of Islam based in wahhabi tenets; in the world outside Saudi Arabia, however, a cultural revolution was sweeping through the Islamic world. The rise of 'Impact Sunni' creeds, which drew on old Mu'tazilite philosophies and were distinctively more moderate, isolated Saudi Arabia from its religious neighbours. Instead of embracing the new trend, the Saudi dynasty condemned it, banning Impact Sunni pilgrims from his country; which only solidified his isolation. Eventually, the monarchy became known as the Pariah King. This was in direct contrast to the King of Morocco, where the creed had originated; in fact, in the years after Impact, the two were considered to be like the ends of a pole, constantly striving against each other.

Other problems began to mount. In the years after Impact, massive amounts of money were poured into various scientific avenues. These avenues led to the growing implementation of non-fossil fuel energy, notably solar energy. By 2011, positron generation- incidentally, a side effect of research into the Eva project- began to slowly propagate; by 2015 many major Western cities were relying on positron generators, to the point where weaponising them was a distinct possibility. Naturally, this led to diminishing income for Saudi Arabia; by 2017 its oil revenues were half what they'd been in 2005. This was a problem for all kinds of reasons, but one of the most painful was that, as repressive as the regime had been, it had kept its people happy and pacified through immense welfare payouts and large amounts of state investment. With oil revenues dropping and the price of essentials rising sharply in response to the Angelic War and the LN War, Saudi Arabia's internal economy was thrown into turmoil. Public dissatisfaction rose sharply, and before long riots were breaking out across the country.

By April 2018, these had exploded into full-on revolution. Uprisings spread across the state, intending to overthrow the government and replace it with their own creeds- democracy, socialism, a different brand of dictatorship… By July 2018, the most powerful of these revolutionary forces was known as the Women's Revolution, or Women's Army, which had originally started as an attempt to achieve liberal reforms for women in Saudi Arabia. Now, however, it was a major force- made up of men and women- able to compete with Saudi Arabia's army on a more or less equal footing. The leader of the Revolution is a woman known only as Aisha, who swears that she will not rest until Saudi Arabia has fallen; she has promised to re-enact the similar sort of sweeping reforms that Minerva Linden enacted in the US.

With the 'Pariah King' by now a feeble old man, Saudi Arabia is unofficially under the control of Tariq Fahd Ibn-Talal Al Saud, the Governor of Tabuk and 4th in line to the throne, who has vowed to crush the uprising.

The two forces are at an impasse, and desperate for foreign support. Whoever supported the eventual victor would gain an ally in the peninsula- and perhaps that ally would be willing to lend its considerable naval forces to its benefactor.

Chosen Option: Intervene, but Offer Regional Ceasefire and Coordination attempts with UN

Our forces intend to intervene in the region, as do the UN's. This issue is greater than either of us, and we owe it to the people we're attempting to assist that we do not turn their country into just another battlefield between the UN and Federation. Let's offer the UN a temporary ceasefire purely for the forces in Saudi Arabia, and we can discuss the results after the Pariah King has fallen.

Options

Direct Intervention, Women's Revolution

Send aid- military aid. A full fighting force sent into the country would push the balance of power toward the Women's Revolution and pave the road to liberation. However, it's worth noting that many of our own states possess subject countries or are trying to fight their own revolutions, and are unlikely to be happy with this course of action. This is, however, the best way to ensure that we have contributed more than the UN.

Financial Aid, Women's Revolution

Sending them financial aid through clandestine means will certainly help them, and it gives us plausible deniability, but it won't ensure their victory if the UN has dedicated major military forces to the other side. They may also be less willing to help us after.

Send aid- military aid. A full fighting force sent into the country would push the balance of power toward the loyalist government, and reestablish order. Do Nothing

This has nothing to do with us, and we should stay out of it. The UN may meddle, and they may gain an ally, but the potential mess that could ensue by embroiling us in a revolution is not worth it.

Ambush the UN intervention force (no intervention)

With the data received from Messina, we now know not only how many forces are en route to Saudi Arabia, but also their transit route. The route involves loading them into sea-faring transports, during which they will be vulnerable. Federation strategists predict that a rapid strike at a certain location has a 95% chance of inflicting massive casualties and completely wiping out the force's ability to intervene. Although we are not intervening ourselves, this will leave the UN temporarily unable to act in Saudi Arabia.
