Yanmei S Follower

[13:43] <Yanmei> It hadn't stopped snowing, even after two days. -
[13:44] <Yanmei> Yanmei could see it through the windows she passed on her way up yet another empty, cold starwell. -
[13:49] <Yanmei> She had left Elizabeth in Isaiah's care, with a freshly laundered General Bear and coloring books to occupy them. So she was alone and moving faster for it. Although, to be fair, the elevator had carried her most of the way anyway. -
[13:50] <Yanmei> At last, she found an ugly utility door before her, and pushed it open, and stood there, momentarily dazzled by the fluffy white rooftops crowding the scenary.
[13:58] <@Minaplo> [There was white on the roof, white on the entire skyline, uniform and unbroken. But here on this rooftop, a black smear differentiated it from the others. The Spectre sat on the inner edge of a rooftop wall, staring at Yanmei.]
[14:11] * Yanmei stared back, blankly at first, and then with widening eyes as her sigh adjusted. The text bidding her to come here had to have come from rooftop-loving de Pteres. But this… even in her worst nightmares, she hadn't even imagined… She started to back away, slowly, as if she was facing down a wild animal that would attack at sudden movements.
[14:12] <Yanmei> ^sight adjusted
[14:12] <@Minaplo> [The Spectre moved slightly, placing a hand down on the concrete barrier upon which it sat. Yanmei's phone vibrated.]
[14:15] <Yanmei> That got her to come to a sharp and sudden stop. Her gaze flicked down to the pocket where her phone rested, and then back to the Spectre. Very slowly, she reached for it and peered down at it. "…" -
[14:16] <Yanmei> Yanmei swallowed hard, looking up again. "Wh-why? What do you want?"
[14:18] <@Minaplo> [Her phone vibrated again.]
[14:20] * Yanmei checked again. "You came all this way for that?"
[14:22] <@Minaplo> [It vibrated once more.]
[14:27] <Yanmei> "No…" She glanced behind herself after checking the phone again, and then moved again as if trying to block the doorway with her body. "Don't attack anyone else! No one here has even done anything to you!"
[14:30] <@Minaplo> [It vibrated in response.]
[14:32] * Yanmei looked at it. "Then…?" She stared at the Spectre, confusion sweeping across her face.
[14:36] <@Minaplo> [The Spectre patted the barrier impatiently.]
[14:41] * Yanmei kept staring, mistrustful. She was trying to reconcile Marianne's words within herself. 'It doesn't seem like it wants to hurt any of the Pilots. Anyone else is fair game.'-
[14:46] <Yanmei> Finally, she tossed her hair and moved toward the little wall and… slowly down onto it, leaving a few feet of space between them. "Who are you really?" She was carefully not looking at her. Her heart was pounding, and she was sure that it would get worse if she did turn to her host. "Why did you kill Mr. Severin like that?"
[14:51] <Yanmei> "Of course he did!" she said angrily to the vibrating message on her phone. "Everyone wants to know who you are. What you are. How you do those tricks with electricity. What did you expect?"
[14:54] <Yanmei> "Why? You're not an enemy…?"
[14:57] <Yanmei> The lack of confirmation troubled her. She shifted in place, but then caught the nervous motion and tossed her hair hastily. "Wh-what did you want to talk about, anyway?"
[15:02] <Yanmei> "Humans? That's…" She frowned, thinking hard. "It's so hard to generalize? I'm one myself, and I'm around them all day. They're varied. Complex. They just… -are-."
[15:09] <@Minaplo> [The Spectre shifted slightly, the air growing colder at Yanmei's answer. Her phone vibrated a response.]
[15:18] <Yanmei> "I'm trying! Look, we're… fragile. Compared to you we are, anyway. Our bodies break easily, and so can our minds. We're not like Angels who can use AT Fields either."-
[15:20] <Yanmei> "When we feel things, we feel them deeply. I think… desperate is the word to describe us?"
[15:28] <Yanmei> "Weak? Yes… but…" She gestured aimlessly. "That's why we create, and love, and hate and destroy so much. If you know death will come at any moment, you want to smooch your boyfriend as much as you can while you can. And you want to leave a mark, any mark, so that you're not forgotten. Some proof of your existance…"
[15:34] <Yanmei> "Both. If you slap someone, their pain is proof that you exist. If they slap you, you remember the pain and you remember the person who caused it even if they die or disappear. The same is true for positive things."
[15:44] <Yanmei> "If you build a hospital to help people, then you leave a legacy behind. The people helped by your actions won't forget you? And even if they do, their healthy lives and the things that come from it are still a part of that legacy in a distant way. It's like living forever."
[15:59] <Yanmei> "Uh… well, I've saved some people. And I've worked my way into a few lives as well, for better or worse."
[16:07] <Yanmei> "I don't know," she admitted. "You don't remember?"
[16:12] <Yanmei> "I said I don't know. You look like the enemy, but you're not."
[16:12] <@Minaplo> [A sharp drop in temperature at that. The answer wasn't what the Spectre wanted.]
[16:27] * Yanmei stared down at the message repeating across the display of her cell phone, shivering a bit. Better take it slow. "You… to me, you're the person who saved my comrades when they might have died. But you killed Mr. Severin too, and those people in the subway." She gripped the front of her coat a bit, trying to get a hold of herself before continuing.-
[16:37] <Yanmei> "You've left a mark on me, for better or worse, but when I look at you, I feel very confused. There's gratitude and anger and caution at the same time. And…" she scowled a little. "You make me feel very small. Because you're as strong and elusive as you are? If you wanted to harm me, I think you would have done it already? So… yeah."
[16:38] <Yanmei> "I thought you might. Because you protected the others too? But… why?"
[16:56] * Yanmei gazed at the Spectre for a very long, quiet moment, trying to come up with a response. "I see," she sighed at last. "Even if I don't get -why-, I can try to understand? But it's not like I attract trouble all the time, you know."
[17:02] <Yanmei> "I haven't seen anything yet anyway!" Yanmei held her hands up. "What's so important about me?"
[17:04] <Yanmei> "You've a true politician's elusiveness. That doesn't answer anything."
[17:07] <Yanmei> "Not allowed? By whose orders?" she said slyly.
[17:09] * Yanmei pouted. "How stingy."
[17:13] <Yanmei> A flicker of surprise. "I don't think I have a choice? I was born this way. I can't change being human on a whim."
[17:22] <Yanmei> "There's some charm in it?" Yanmei tossed her hair. "What's so great about being strong, anyway?"
[17:24] <@Minaplo> [The air grew painfully cold, until Yanmei's teeth began to chatter. The Spectre was growing angry.]
[17:35] * Yanmei rubbed her arms, but that did a fat lot against the chill. "A-all right, all right! If-f I wasn't me, then I wouldn't have the friends or family or enemies I have now. Or romances. Or memories. Those are precious things!"
[17:42] <Yanmei> "Relationships are just as complex as the people who form them. They c-can be foci for things like passion, and can make life worth living."
[17:43] <Yanmei> "Yes! That's right. Relationships are important."
[17:44] <@Minaplo> [The Spectre was quiet for a few minutes, sitting as still as a statue.-
[17:44] <@Minaplo> [And then Yanmei's phone would start blinking as all of the messages began to delete themselves.]
[17:46] * Yanmei jumped slightly in alarm, holding the phone at a distance now. Deleting evidence? "What are you…?"
[17:46] <@Minaplo> [But by the time Yanmei had looked down at the phone and looked back up, the Spectre had vanished.]
[17:49] <Yanmei> "…" Yanmei sagged, as some of the tension she had been welling up inside released itself in one long breath. What just happened? The snow continued to fall around her as if nothing had happened.
[17:50] <@Minaplo> [It was warmer, at least…-
[17:51] <@Minaplo> [Yet it'd take Yanmei awhile- at least a day- before she realised that there was one last thing the Spectre had left her.]
